    3:15 for the solution.
    Basically
    1) start the car (from inside)
    2) lock the car (from inside)
    3) use your hand to manually unlock the door at the lock (not using the switch to unlock the entire car)
    4) step outside of the vehicle w/ the smart key in hand
    5) close the door
    6) take out the physical key from your smart key
    7) use the physical key to lock the door

I do it the other way... open the drivers door Window completely, get out, close the door, hit the lock button on the inside of the door, then pull the window switch so the window will close. Make sure you have the key on you though... otherwise you'll be breaking in into your own vehicle 😂

Great to know, I’ve been avoiding making stops on my way home with my dog (he comes to work with me) to get gas or run a quick errand like dropping something off at the post office because I was so afraid of leaving my car on and unlocked with him in it and also leaving him in the car without AC at all, but now I can make those quick stops!

just because the doors are locked it wont keep a theif away .I an experienced theif can smash the window or break the lock in mere seconds and drive off with your car and you will never see your car again .If that happens your insurance will NOT reimburse you for your car becasue it was your fault for leaving it running ( of course you dont have to tell them that you left if running but they might figure it out ) Safer to shut the engine off even if you are making a 1 minute stop off .Wearing out your starter is better than losing the car altogether /A new starter is only about $500

I thought they couldn’t drive off with it since I had the fob. So not knowing that they could run over me, I went to my car and started banging on the hood of the car and screamed “get the eff out of my car!” over and over. When he didn’t get out of my car and then proceeded to call 911. The really disturbing part is that it took 911 over five minutes to answer my call. The guy who was trying to steal my car was with a car parked next to mine. During those five minutes the car drove off and the guy got out of my car and walked away.

there is a simple solution for this problem .Just go to your local dollar tree and but a bike lock with the vinyl cable .Costs about $4 .Keep the lock in your center console and whenever you make a stop for a few minutes .,just lock your steering wheel to your interior passenger door handle .This way you can leave the car running with the doors unlocked .A thief might be able to get in ,but he wont be able to drive off .It will take him at least 5 minutes to cut through the bike cable lock .By that time you will be back .Just dont leave any valuables in the car and you are good to go .I do it all the time .

I don't understand why carmakers don't design it so the vehicle will not go into gear unless the key fob is inside the vehicle. I have an F150 and reprogrammed to do just that. Prior to me reprogramming it, anyone could take it without the fob in their possession. A simple example, I get out at a community mailbox to get my mail. If I leave the car running, anyone can take put it in gear and take it. It doesn't make sense to me that it is this way.

Seriously if they can make proximity keys for the outside and know the difference that your key is inside so if someone couldn’t press your button from the outside while you have your key , then they should be able to just disable drive mode unless the cars was in proximity of inside the vehicle, they know better but I’m sure they get more sales after someone steals the vehicle from a consumer and gets replaced by insurance

Having just got a Highlander coming from a 2010 vehicle these are some of the little things I'm missing from my old car. I frequently had my old car running (heat or AC) and wanting to have the door locked. Usually, it's because I'm sitting in the vehicle with my kid waiting for someone i.e. my wife running into a store for 5 or 10 mins. Locking the door was a habit for safety reasons. Perhaps I was in a semi sketchy area and didn't want someone unexpectedly just coming and opening my door. Then when my wife or whomever would return I'll unlock the door for them. Whatever, the case there are many reasons why someone might want to do it though I can understand and see the argument that well the smart key is in the car and this is a safety mechanism so you don't lock your key in the car, fair point. Then, at the very least you should be able to lock the car while running if it detects the key is outside the car.

I deliver for Door Dash. So often I only need 10-20 seconds to run up and drop an order off and I don't want the wear and tear on my starter from turning it off for such a short period of time. 2014 Honda Accord, and unable to lock it while running up to the door. But I don't want that hassle of having to pull the physical key out each time. That'll turn a 10-20 second thing into a 30-40 second event at every drop off, which adds up. They should just let us lock the door normally, I guarantee this has inconvenienced many times more people than it's "helped".

LOL speaking of remote start, DONT even try to promote that, when you could have locked the door in 1 second but used the remote or toyota app to lock the door that would take you up to 1-5 minutes depending on if you are under wifi or not. Even if you are under a very fast wifi(which in most cases you wont be under wifi because thats the point of remote) the app takes SUPER long to update status and make changes like lock/unlock doors, remote engine start, refresh vehicle status like the door. Only thing I find useful without waiting is the notification because I sometimes forget to lock my car door also when I need to go somewhere or have class in the winter/spring morning where my car is literally frozen up with layer of ice I could remotely start the vehicle and defrost it.

Doesn't most new Toyotas have remote start using the key fob?

    • @stevenwelchtoyota
      @stevenwelchtoyota  3 роки тому +2

I wouldn't say most probably 50% have the remote connect app based system. If you choose not to renew that system after the 1st year trial period ends for $80 per year or $8 per month then the remote start shuts off including from the key fob. This answer is correct in that case as well.
