    I wanted something for photography. I am in a lot of situations in a big town where a detachable lens camera will get you kicked out, rejected at the door, or interfering with a professional photography, or cost you a fee. I wanted something that could give me viable photos in the pocket. One big thing I noticed is that the ZV-1 produced an overexposed and washed out sky, which is probably the most "raw" thing it could produce for video in that situation. The RX gave you a very blue sky, but the trees had this white halo that stood out to me. It was pretty consistent, see the sky and trees at 5:22 for an example, pretty consistent with the RX. That looks like a post processing effect. Maybe it was a setting, or maybe it's automatic and baked in? For photography, I like the extra zoom on the RX, but that blur and that bokeh and slightly better aperture and slightly better noise on the zv-1 is important to me probably more so. I ended up getting the zv-1 but i'm still a little on the fence about it.

      Yeah when I made this video I messed up by not adjusting my shutter speed to reduce some of that over exposure in the sun. It would’ve also helped to have a darker nd filter to make it a more fair comparison with the rx100.
      Now I don’t have my rx100 anymore but I still have my zv1. It’s my go to if I need a pocket camera. I still favor my DJI Pocket 3 over it but still.

    RX100vii is the best camera for people who need a camera for music concert fans because of the sharp and long reach 200mm lens and the excellent 1" sensor. Nothing compares. EVF is also a must when using it at 200mm , because the closer to the eye, the more steady you'll be able to hold the camera. EVF is also very useful in bright light (easier to see than the screen). EVF and the lens is where all that extra cost is going over the ZV1. EVF's are expensive.

    • @lessonslearnedwithcameras1782
      @lessonslearnedwithcameras1782  2 роки тому +2

      Hey Hi-Tech Filmmaker, thanks for breaking that down for me, I didn’t know EVF’s were that expensive. I think I was just analyzing the superficial differences, instead of the technical ones. I can see where you are coming from when it comes to having the reach for concerts in the daytime. Again thanks for a better understanding.👍

      @@lessonslearnedwithcameras1782 Hi, Not sure why you added "daytime" as a qualifier for for concerts. It's almost an issue actually for daytime as it can sometimes (not always) gather too much light even with aperture and ISO adjust all the way to let less light in when filming at 24 fps or even 30 fps. I've had a shoot where I almost needed to add a ND filter (and they make them for this & other P&S camera) It works great for night time concerts too. There's no other camera where you need a 200 mm reach that works as good as this one for concert fans who film night concerts.

    • @lessonslearnedwithcameras1782
      @lessonslearnedwithcameras1782  2 роки тому +2

      @@hi-techfilmmaker5682 the reason I said “daytime” as the qualifier was because at 200mm, f4.5 under low-light concert shooting conditions, one would assume you’re videoing from the nose bleed section, if that’s the case even using 24fps or 30fps in 4k that footage is going to have grain in it. With those settings I would also believe your ISO is anywhere between 6000-12800, I’ll even give you a crazy low shutter of 1/15, all that equals unusable footage. Now I know “quality” or the term “good” footage is subjective, based off the users tolerance.
      I’ve used the rx100 shooting interior video with not so good lighting at 24mm, auto iso pushing anywhere from 800-1600 based off conditions, f2.8 and the footage has more grain than I would like. The camera is good but let’s be real it’s far from perfect. Now I don’t shoot concerts at all so I’m at a disadvantage but I do shoot low light and interior video and the picture falls apart. That’s why honestly I would pick my ZV1 over it when 71mm-200mm zoom isn’t a requirement. F1.8 on a 1”sensor will surpass a f2.8 on a 1”sensor anyday of the week, but guess what? It also shows grain if the lighting conditions aren’t good, that’s why if I need crystal clear low-light performance I will use my Sony FX3 w/24mm GM f1.4. Then all my problems are solved whether 4k 24/30/60/120fps.

      @@lessonslearnedwithcameras1782 I agree 100% with Hi-Tech. I have the rx100vii and never used more than around 500 ISO for filming night time and indoor concerts in 4K. And that is at 1/50 shutter speed. And yes, this is at 200mm. The reach on the ZV1 is not even close to what is necessary for anything other than maybe the 1st 5-10 rows. and if it is a wide stage, something like a stadium, forget about using it. If you don't need the reach the ZV1 is almost a no brainer better. But for concerts, nope. not even close. RX100vi and vii is the clear winner by far.

    • @lessonslearnedwithcameras1782
      @lessonslearnedwithcameras1782  2 роки тому

      @@rexsterling7346 I think a lot of this all comes down to “quality” video footage, which I think we all can agree is subjective in terms of users tolerance. 200mm on a variable app will close that aperture down hard. With that in play at 500-1000 iso, I’m not going to be impressed with that footage, again based off what my tolerance is for grainy. He makes it sound like the footage is crystal clear with those parameters added to the equation which is totally false and misleading. That’s all I’m saying.

    I have both cameras. The EVF makes the RX100 VII my clear favorite. Slo-mo is way better, the tele reach is better, EVF is super useful. The only advantages the ZV1 has is price, product showcase, and wider aperture. I I had to have just one camera, I would choose the RX100 VII. The only reason I keep the ZV1 is for product showcase.

      Yeah my only reason for getting the ZV1 was for the wider aperture. I need better low light performance for the 1”sensor. RX100 Vii was more for the serious shooter. I’m ok with the 70mm zoom over the 200mm since I wasn’t doing nothing seriously with the extra distance and trying to keep true quality image. I have used product showcase a little but again nothing serious. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on both cameras.👍

    Hi Willy, I liked your review, except you raced through the specs at the beginning just a little too quickly for my Aussie ears.. I had to back a few times to chaeck that I got it all. After that, the pace was fine. I did notice that on your walk-around, the light coloured buildings in the background were badly blown out on the ZV-1, but not on the Mk VII. Any thoughts on that?

    • @lessonslearnedwithcameras1782
      @lessonslearnedwithcameras1782  2 роки тому

      Hey rblase! Thank you so much for your honest feedback, I appreciate that. Yes I do tend to rush through the specs a bit in the beginning, but I will get better about trying to be aware of that and slowing it down so more understand can be achieved. The reason the background was more blown out on the ZV1 over the Mkvii is mainly due to the aperture and shutter speed. If I would’ve dialed in the settings more on the ZV1 I could’ve avoided that for sure. It’s easier in direct sunlight to control the settings more with the mkvii even without ND filters with little effort at F2.8. Plus I don’t think I was using the ND filter in the ZV1.

    • @rbalse

    Between zv-1 ii and rx100m7, which is better for taking arena concert photos (low light and needs zoom)?

    • @lessonslearnedwithcameras1782
      @lessonslearnedwithcameras1782  Рік тому +5

      Well this isn't a simple question, I'll explain why. First off let's address low-light. The ZV1 mkii will be better in low light since at the wide end it's F1.8 and the rx100mkvii is F2.8. ZV1mkii will let in more light therefore reducing the amount of grainy footage you may have.
      Now let's talk about the zoom needs, well the ZV1mkii is 50mm at the zoom end verses rx100mkvii 200mm. Of course the mkvii has more zoom, but you have to ask yourself "how much of that is useable zoom" meaning if your constantly using the 200mm zoom especially in low-light conditions your going to have some "not so good" footage. it will not be that steady, and since these point and shoot cameras have a variable aperture at 200mm under low light you have to worry about grainy footage.
      If I already owned the mkii I would of course make it work, and the EVF would help with that. If I was making a purchase of one of these for the first time and if price wasn't an issue and I did photography 80% and video 20% of the time, then I would go with RX100 Mkvii.
      If I was casually into photos and video was the main priority, then I would go with the ZV1 mki or mkii.
      Overall 50mm zoom compared to 200mm is a big difference and it's hard to compare off that alone. Most would depend on the users needs.

      Hey Random Video Creator, Honestly I hate to admit it, but I agree... Especially in 2022, with the Sony ZV-1 being out. I don't have a good honest sales pitch for the MKVii when it comes to advising someone to buy a point & shoot camera still retailed at $1,200 for content creating. So many more better choices for a cheaper camera with accessories that would still come under this price point.

  • @Rocky_KO
    @Rocky_KO 2 роки тому +8

    Just FYI, the ZV1 is 25.6mm (25.568 actual) on the wide end. I've seen Sony misleading many customers by putting 24mm on the specs sheet. Compare the imprinted focal length on the front of the lens with your ZV1 & RX100 VII and the wide end will be different. The VII is 24.5mm (24.48mm actual) which is passable. It's 2.72 crop factor so you can calculate as well. The ZV1 isn't the great vlogging camera it was marketed to be. If Sony makes a ZV2 with an actual 20mm wide end for better vlogging than we have a winner.

Although the zv1 was better at capturing you, since the M7 seemed a bit dark at some points. I hope you can answer this question, can you make the surroundings just as crisp on the zv1 as it is on the M7?

    • @lessonslearnedwithcameras1782
      @lessonslearnedwithcameras1782  Рік тому +5

      Thank you Stabakfan! Yes you can make the ZV-1 darker also. Only reason mine didn’t look like that was because I had it set to program auto, and I wasn’t manually controlling my shutter speed, and aperture. The ZV1 has the ability to let in more light to the sensor, which is awesome in low-light situations. The only downfall to that is when you are in direct sunlight, you may need to utilize the ND filters and manual controls of your settings to dial everything in to suite the shooting conditions. When it comes to how sharp or crisp the video footage is, they’re equal IMO. For me a need to do less adjustments on the mkvii in daylight or good lighting conditions mainly because of the f2.8 aperture, but the flip side of that is for low-light shooting it requires me to take manual control for best shooting results. If that makes sense.

Well the camera don’t have a audio mic jack, so you won’t be able to use a external mic. So Question. Buddy wants to start a VLOG as he takes over his parents farm. Originally he was just going to use his iPhone because he can just have it in his pocket all the time but he wants more zoom.
    He likes the ZV1MkII because of the 18mm which would be better when in his tractor as he can show it all. He also likes the Mic as he doesn't need to add accessories. He can just have it in his shirt breast pocket and know it'll be good to go.
    Big but for him however is the zoom range. He likes the RX100 as it goes to 200mm, and vlogging on a farm that extra zoom would be really good as he can zoom in on oddities in the field without having to walk over there.
    Other Things. Unlimited Recording time IMO doesn't matter, as the battery is so small in 4K you'll probably only get 30-40 minutes of video anyway, and by then you will be swapping out the battery to be on the safe side.

    • @lessonslearnedwithcameras1782
      @lessonslearnedwithcameras1782  Рік тому

      Ok, good question! Well I'll start by saying if I didn't already own the RX100, I wouldn't be looking at that as a option. Ok let's talk about that 200mm. If your zoomed all the way into 200mm it's not as glamorous as one would think. If your friend isn't on a tri-pod that footage will be shaky and possibly not usable, just depends. for that $1,200 price tag it would be a hard sell even with 200mm zoom capability. Plus with the RX100 your friend will guarantee need a external audio source. Whether it's a shotgun mic or wireless set-up he will also need a cage of some sort since there's no cold shoe mount on the RX100. Now there's other cons to the RX100 for farm vlogging but it would be more from the technical side which would cause me to be nerdy trying to explain those..lol.
      I don't have to explain battery life in 4K, because you know it will be short. Probably 30-45mins if lucky. Weather and other conditions will vary this of course.
      As for the ZV1 Mkii, well that 18mm is nice for sure can't say nothing bad about that. Well I could, but again nerdy side of me, but for a casual user it's great. as for the 50mm zoom, hmmm I don't know if that would be enough zoom especially of a farm. He could always move closer to the subject he's shooting.
      If he's going to be around farm machinery I think no onboard audio will work. He will need external mic, preferably a wireless set-up with receiver and transmitter. I think your friend will be happier with the ZV1 Mki or mkii purchase over the RX100 mkvii. Plus cost wise those two make better sense.
      Also if having something to fit in his pocket beside the smartphone the ZV1 mkii will beat out any option, unless he wants to really downsize and opt out for an action cam.

      @@lessonslearnedwithcameras1782 Good advice and helpful vid. I'd go either with the ZV1 mk1 or mk2 or an action cam like the DJI Action 4. The ZV1 is a bit bigger than the mkvii for better thermal management, it'll sooner run out of battery than overheat in most cases. Even with a wireless mic you'll need to attach the receiver to the camera and the ZV1 has a hotshoe, for the mkvii you'd need to either DIY something or use a little selfie stick/tripod with a cold shoe mount.
      I'm looking at these two cams now as well. I want something that'll be an upgrade from my iPhone photo-wise with full manual controls but also have some video versatility. Unless I can get a used mkvii under $1000 though it seems like the zv-1 is a better value. The $400-500+ premium for the mkvii over the ZV-1 on the used market is tough to justify unless you're really photography-first. I'm somewhere in between.

      I agree with you 100%. I think I forgot to mention it in this reply, but Rx100 mkvii would only be considered if I was more serious about photography with a 80% use ratio over 20% video. I think most are finding this video at a later time without taking into consideration that when I purchased the mkvii it was during a time that the ZV1 didn’t exist at all. Lol. Nowadays there’s just more and better cost efficient options especially for one like myself that photography is an after thought that most of the time I would just use my I-phone.
      I have to be honest, I don’t know a lot about the ZV1mkii but from what I familiarized myself with on the fly, it wasn’t enough of a benefit for me to jump ship from my ZV1 mki, but the ZV1 mki was enough of an upgrade for my intended use to leave my rx100 mkvii.

      Sony ZV-1 if you want 24-70mm and the ability to live stream. When I say live stream I’m talking live streaming on Zoom calls, UA-cam, Streamyard, or any other streaming platform. When you hook up the camera it gets recognized as a webcam. That won’t work with the other Rx100 models.

If you do that then your only issue is getting a good sd card that can record for a good length of time. 128gb will give you around 2hrs in 4k/30. 1080p should get you around 4hrs and 30mins.

    💥Great review. The only pluses for the rx100 are a longer focal length and a manual focus ring. The Zv-1 has an ND filter, 1.8 ability, background defocus and a hot shoe all at much lower price. I shoot bands on stage and sometimes I don’t want to carry around a backpack full of lenses so if I didn’t need the focal length then the ZV-1 would be the hands down winner for this pro level shooter.

      I would say the 1080/60 is equally comparable to both. I don’t personally mess around with 120fps, just not my style, but I would say given the shooting conditions would matter more, especially when it comes to low-light shooting 60fps. In that case I would use the ZV1 just because of the f1.8 vs the mkvii f2.8 IMO.

    24fps @ 1/50, 30fps @ 1/60, both at ISO's not even close to what your way off guess. And yes, I mean nighttime/indoor concerts. @ 200mm. More like anywhere from ISO 200 to 1000. Seriously. I work in the business and this is the camera I recommend to people who are music fans. But of course F1.8 will be much better than a 2.8 will all else is considered the same. That was never a question. But for a person who wants a camera for concerts, it is not just an advantage for "nosebleed" seats. It's great for any seat. Even 1st row where you want to get a good shoulder head shot of the band members the 200 mm reach is advantageous. Look up Jim Powers channel. He even used a $500 P&S pocket 1/2.3 inch sensor camera with a lens that starts of at F3.3! And at 60fps, probably 1/120. All he does is concerts. Look at his last video and then imagine using a 1" f2.8 instead.

      First I’ll start by saying, I don’t know how or why your comment was blocked or I would’ve been responded early but again it comes down to a very subjective opinion in terms of quality. Yes you and I possibly have 2 different approaches to that. That’s not arguable. My tolerance and yours are different which is fine. Again I wouldn’t recommend a $1,200 camera to someone just starting off for the sake of taking concert footage. Again just me. I personally still love my RX100mkvii but I know it’s limits and capabilities at least for what I’m willing to accept in terms of quality.
