FUJIFILM X-S20-The Fun Mini Cinema/Vlogging Camera of 2023
FUJIFILM X-S20-The Fun Mini Cinema/Vlogging Camera of 2023.
This is my first impression with owning a Fuji camera. I purchased the Fuji X-S20, due to needing another APS-C camera.
My choices came down to the Sony A6700 or the Fujifilm X-S20. The Fujifilm X-S20 wins heads down due to the versatility and options available on this camera.
This is truly a mini cinema camera that punches way above it's pay grade.
I think the Fujifilm X-S20 is a good option for someone trying to get into the Fujifilm eco-system. This is a camera you can grown with if you're new to content creating.
This video is to show there's more to the Fujifilm name brand than photography.

Sony 11mm F1.8-Solution to the ZV-E10 digital crop??
Переглядів 5 тис.2 роки тому
So I think I found the solution for the 40% digital crop brought to us by the Sony ZV-E10. I just recently purchased the Sony 11mm F1.8 to counteract this problem. It was a hard choice since the Viltrox 13mm, and Sony 15mm F1.4 could've been used also, if I was willing to commit to a gimbal full-time for videoing if I was planning on walking while filming. The 11mm F1.8 seem like a better optio...

      Well I’m not a Cannon shooter. I’m a Sony and Fuji shooter. What I can tell you is with the EOS R100 it depends on what your shooting needs are if this camera would be good for you. I’m personally not a fan of this model. There’s no flip out articulating display screen, so it wouldn’t be a good choice for talking head or vlogging video shooting. If you are interested in Cannon cameras I would say start your research with the EOS R50.

    Good informative video. Although for a walking/vlogging setup the A6700 with the gyro data and catalyst software can smooth out the footage better than IBIS, Fuji doesn't have anything quite like that. If smooth footage is the goal than an action cam or the new Pocket 3 from DJI work very well. I have been going back and forth over a B-cam for my setup. I already have an A7iv and love it for both photography and videography for where I intend on using it though it's a bit heavy and expensive. I was using my old RX10iii for a backup B camera but at 8 years old it's showing it's age. The A6700 would have been the obvious choice but for one big reason, it overheats pretty easily, especially for long video recordings. I tried out the X-S20 in the same conditions (room at 28C) and it was able to record for 2hr 20min at 4K30 (The A6700 overheated and shut off after 1hr 11min) Most of the video I plan to take with this will be on a tripod so I'm not too concerned over the video stabilization. I have been using the X-S20 for a few days now and really like it, as a lot of people say, it's a fun camera to use.

    • @lessonslearnedwithcameras1782
      @lessonslearnedwithcameras1782 5 місяців тому

      Yes I agree the xs-20 is a super fun camera. A6700 wins for stabilization overall, but I never been a fan of catalyst browse gyro software. The amount of time it takes to render footage is crazy. Im a Sony shooter naturally so when I want reliability it will always be Sony because it’s predictable.

    I wanted something for photography. I am in a lot of situations in a big town where a detachable lens camera will get you kicked out, rejected at the door, or interfering with a professional photography, or cost you a fee. I wanted something that could give me viable photos in the pocket. One big thing I noticed is that the ZV-1 produced an overexposed and washed out sky, which is probably the most "raw" thing it could produce for video in that situation. The RX gave you a very blue sky, but the trees had this white halo that stood out to me. It was pretty consistent, see the sky and trees at 5:22 for an example, pretty consistent with the RX. That looks like a post processing effect. Maybe it was a setting, or maybe it's automatic and baked in? For photography, I like the extra zoom on the RX, but that blur and that bokeh and slightly better aperture and slightly better noise on the zv-1 is important to me probably more so. I ended up getting the zv-1 but i'm still a little on the fence about it.

    • @lessonslearnedwithcameras1782
      @lessonslearnedwithcameras1782 6 місяців тому

      Yeah when I made this video I messed up by not adjusting my shutter speed to reduce some of that over exposure in the sun. It would’ve also helped to have a darker nd filter to make it a more fair comparison with the rx100. Now I don’t have my rx100 anymore but I still have my zv1. It’s my go to if I need a pocket camera. I still favor my DJI Pocket 3 over it but still.

    How do you like the 16mm 1.4? I hear it’s a loud focusing older lens but it’s considered to have some of the best image quality in the system. Also you can get really close with it. I kind of regret not picking up the cheap kit lens when I bought my X-S20. Seems pretty good outside. I have a Viltrox 13mm 1.4 for tripod shots. I’ve been slacking on UA-cam of late. 😂

    • @lessonslearnedwithcameras1782
      @lessonslearnedwithcameras1782 7 місяців тому

      Hey bro! Yup the 16mm 1.4 is loud. My work around is whenever I’m using it I have to use a wireless mic, but it’s super sharp to be as old as it is, and you can get really close to subject with it. The build quality is like no other lens I have used. Yeah that kit lens is on point for what it is and the price point can’t be beat. I own the Viltrox 13mm 1.4 for my Sony e-mount system and I love it. It’s probably my most used lens by far. I still want to get it for the Fuji x-mount but it’s hard to justify with having the zoom kit lens and the Fuji 16mm 1.4, but I know I will find a way to justify purchasing it.🤣

If youre a landscape vlogger where you talk behind the camera then the G1 is better. The sony ZV-1 built-in microphone is better than the rode for landscape vlogging as noticed in the water fall scene. Great video thanks for sharing.

    I appreciate your honest perception. None of the alternatives are as small and light to hit the performance point, though. It is still a viable camera, though you make some good points. It definitely is not a low light beast, but learn to use the Sony DRO setting. Your backlit restaurant shot would likely have been rescued quite a bit. Another quibble is the YT nonsense about plastic not being professional. ZV1 is a video-forward version of the RX100 VII. It is *highly* capable. This said, I own both cameras that I mentioned, and a larger Fuji camera where I need more performant gear. My little Sony cameras are sometimes the right tool. And this happens often enough to own them.

    • @lessonslearnedwithcameras1782
      @lessonslearnedwithcameras1782 8 місяців тому

      Hey David, agree 100%. They’re both capable cameras even in 2023. UA-cam content creators publish a bunch of nonsense in regards to the zv-1. In most cases for most people it will do just fine. I still use my to date. I do shoot in more low light than most but still it’s all about knowing the cameras limits and capabilities. I finally sold my Rx100mkvii, since I wasn’t getting a lot of use out of it. I’m a very basic video shooter and I knew someone with a more professional skill set could get better use from it. I own a lot of Sony cameras but recently I thought I would have a little fun and shoot with Fuji also.

    I'm still debating whether to take the plunge into the Fujiverse. A few months ago, it would have been easy to do, but the Sony A6700 is making it harder for me to quit Sony. I'm very impressed with what I've seen of both cameras. My main concern with the Fuji is what I've heard about the autofocus not being as good as the Sony, but at this point anything will beat the Sony A65 I'm currently using. If I want to go full manual when shooting video, I lose autofocus, but it's the only way I can configure it like a film camera. I think I will get the Fuji in the end, especially since Sony's killed off all the A-Mount lenses and I'd have to jump to a new architecture anyways...

    • @lessonslearnedwithcameras1782
      @lessonslearnedwithcameras1782 9 місяців тому

      Yeah that was one of my worries with Fuji, the autofocus, but I do love the Fuji colors. Nothing beats Sony autofocus, so I knew that going into the Fuji ecosystem. You’re right you could keep it in manual focus to avoid that problem, but still. I feel more comfortable when I’m behind the Fuji camera in total control, but the type of shooting I do puts me away from the camera, whereby I have to build trust that Fuji won’t act a fool in my absence.. lol. Yeah the Sony a6700 or Fuji X-S20 is a hard choice between those two, but it’s easier if you need perfect autofocus, then it’s Sony all day. If I didn’t already have my FX30 or FX3, I would’ve had to go with the Sony A6700 hands down.

  • @MichaelGalli88

    nice work, and welcome to the Fujifilm ecosystem! I like your take on how this was your first experience with a Fuji body. I'm still a relative newbie myself, having purchased the X-T3 with the 18-55mm f2.8/4 lens in the summer of 2022. Mostly a hobby at first, learning how to use the camera in auto and manual modes, practicing with landscapes, indoors and action shots of my kids (dogs and cats). Since then I have added the 55-200mm telephoto and 35mm f2 prime, which I really love for photographs. Last month I purchased the X-S20 with the 15-45mm kit, primarily for the video features. I'm very happy with it so far. I'm still getting used to the power zoom, but overall I like the combination of that lens with the X-S20. When I switched in the 18-55mm, I found the autofocus and tracking to be a bit better than the 15-45mm lens. I have not tried video with the 35mm prime or the 55-200mm telephoto (not sure why I would record video at 200mm but maybe wildlife...?). Anyway, thanks for covering this camera from a Sony user's point of view. I look forward to any future videos with this camera.

      Thanks for stopping by to check out the video. It’s defiantly a learning curb being in the Fuji-ecosystem. Some things are very different but all learnable. The x-s20 is a fun camera that I always look forward to using, which is a good thing overall. It forces me to get into the camera and learn the system and all it’s functionality. Sony doesn’t require as much especially for a novice video shooter.

    Greetings from Argentina, great video! I have the 16mm 1.4 too! I want to buy the X-S20 with the new 18-120 f4 motorized zoom. It is a video lens but all the reviews are from photographers. It would be great if you could try that lens!

      Hello there! Thank you so much. Yes, it’s funny you say that about the 18-120 F4. I was checking out that lens when I purchased the X-S20.. lol. You’re right there’s no video content on it in regards to video shooting with it, even though I’m not a big fan of the F.4 on it, but I understand why it is.. Thanks for stopping by my friend.👍 Defiantly more video content to come with this camera..😃

    Thanks for providing the information in this video. Much appreciated. I just purchased ZV-1M2, and the onboard mic isn't the best sound quality. I was looking for a video that gives the sound when working behind the camera for the ECM-G1. Your video video provided a good example with the waterfall and voice. I have had the same experience with a similar mic as the Rode mic where the shock mount vibration is picked up, It is very frustrating to hear the tap tap tap sound from the mic mount in post-production.

      LMAO!!! No problem bro....I pride myself with being a honest laid back dude. Just an everyday guy that buys my own equipment to do reviews, so my opinion is truly mine. I don't trust brand ambassadors, or anyone receiving equipment from big camera makers. The creator will sit up there and say all day, what they say is not influenced, but the reality of it is, it is. They don't want to ruin those relationships with the man. J/s

    Willie, thanks for the video. I'm new to the camera world and just bought my first camera (ZV-E10 with a Sigma 18-50mm). While I love the Sigma, I've learned that I could really use a wider lens like the Viltrox 13mm. Thanks for all the comparison footage. It really helps. Also, looks like our UA-cam journey is pretty similar. I've got a similar subscriber count. I wasn't really caught up with hitting 1,000 subs and 4K view hours, but now that I'm close I'm starting to think I should go for it. Hoping we both get there. Keep up the good work.

      Thanks bro, I appreciate it! Yeah I will start back making content for this channel in the fall. I stepped away from it in the summer because me and my wife have a channel together that we make content for. I love the Viltrox 13mm. Plenty of wide without being fisheye look, I like it more than my Sigma 16mm & Sony 11mm. You’ll like the ZV-E10 a lot. The only reason I didn’t keep mine was because I needed 4K60, so I got the Fx30 but the ZVE10 did me well. Keep doing what you do with your channel. I checked it out and it’s well put together and I can tell you know what you’re doing.👍

      @lessonslearnedwithcameras1782 thanks for checking out some of my stuff. I'm still trying to find my rhythm and flow in front of a camera. Shooting and editing video is all new to me. Overwhelming. My color is inconsistent. Actually just recently learned about using a gray card to set my white balance. Really hoping that'll get me closer to what your vids look like. Thanks again.

    So Question. Buddy wants to start a VLOG as he takes over his parents farm. Originally he was just going to use his iPhone because he can just have it in his pocket all the time but he wants more zoom. He likes the ZV1MkII because of the 18mm which would be better when in his tractor as he can show it all. He also likes the Mic as he doesn't need to add accessories. He can just have it in his shirt breast pocket and know it'll be good to go. Big but for him however is the zoom range. He likes the RX100 as it goes to 200mm, and vlogging on a farm that extra zoom would be really good as he can zoom in on oddities in the field without having to walk over there. Other Things. Unlimited Recording time IMO doesn't matter, as the battery is so small in 4K you'll probably only get 30-40 minutes of video anyway, and by then you will be swapping out the battery to be on the safe side.

    • @lessonslearnedwithcameras1782
      @lessonslearnedwithcameras1782 11 місяців тому

      Ok, good question! Well I'll start by saying if I didn't already own the RX100, I wouldn't be looking at that as a option. Ok let's talk about that 200mm. If your zoomed all the way into 200mm it's not as glamorous as one would think. If your friend isn't on a tri-pod that footage will be shaky and possibly not usable, just depends. for that $1,200 price tag it would be a hard sell even with 200mm zoom capability. Plus with the RX100 your friend will guarantee need a external audio source. Whether it's a shotgun mic or wireless set-up he will also need a cage of some sort since there's no cold shoe mount on the RX100. Now there's other cons to the RX100 for farm vlogging but it would be more from the technical side which would cause me to be nerdy trying to explain those..lol. I don't have to explain battery life in 4K, because you know it will be short. Probably 30-45mins if lucky. Weather and other conditions will vary this of course. As for the ZV1 Mkii, well that 18mm is nice for sure can't say nothing bad about that. Well I could, but again nerdy side of me, but for a casual user it's great. as for the 50mm zoom, hmmm I don't know if that would be enough zoom especially of a farm. He could always move closer to the subject he's shooting. If he's going to be around farm machinery I think no onboard audio will work. He will need external mic, preferably a wireless set-up with receiver and transmitter. I think your friend will be happier with the ZV1 Mki or mkii purchase over the RX100 mkvii. Plus cost wise those two make better sense. Also if having something to fit in his pocket beside the smartphone the ZV1 mkii will beat out any option, unless he wants to really downsize and opt out for an action cam.

      @@lessonslearnedwithcameras1782 Good advice and helpful vid. I'd go either with the ZV1 mk1 or mk2 or an action cam like the DJI Action 4. The ZV1 is a bit bigger than the mkvii for better thermal management, it'll sooner run out of battery than overheat in most cases. Even with a wireless mic you'll need to attach the receiver to the camera and the ZV1 has a hotshoe, for the mkvii you'd need to either DIY something or use a little selfie stick/tripod with a cold shoe mount. I'm looking at these two cams now as well. I want something that'll be an upgrade from my iPhone photo-wise with full manual controls but also have some video versatility. Unless I can get a used mkvii under $1000 though it seems like the zv-1 is a better value. The $400-500+ premium for the mkvii over the ZV-1 on the used market is tough to justify unless you're really photography-first. I'm somewhere in between.

      I agree with you 100%. I think I forgot to mention it in this reply, but Rx100 mkvii would only be considered if I was more serious about photography with a 80% use ratio over 20% video. I think most are finding this video at a later time without taking into consideration that when I purchased the mkvii it was during a time that the ZV1 didn’t exist at all. Lol. Nowadays there’s just more and better cost efficient options especially for one like myself that photography is an after thought that most of the time I would just use my I-phone. I have to be honest, I don’t know a lot about the ZV1mkii but from what I familiarized myself with on the fly, it wasn’t enough of a benefit for me to jump ship from my ZV1 mki, but the ZV1 mki was enough of an upgrade for my intended use to leave my rx100 mkvii.

    Between zv-1 ii and rx100m7, which is better for taking arena concert photos (low light and needs zoom)?

    • @lessonslearnedwithcameras1782
      @lessonslearnedwithcameras1782 11 місяців тому

      Well this isn't a simple question, I'll explain why. First off let's address low-light. The ZV1 mkii will be better in low light since at the wide end it's F1.8 and the rx100mkvii is F2.8. ZV1mkii will let in more light therefore reducing the amount of grainy footage you may have. Now let's talk about the zoom needs, well the ZV1mkii is 50mm at the zoom end verses rx100mkvii 200mm. Of course the mkvii has more zoom, but you have to ask yourself "how much of that is useable zoom" meaning if your constantly using the 200mm zoom especially in low-light conditions your going to have some "not so good" footage. it will not be that steady, and since these point and shoot cameras have a variable aperture at 200mm under low light you have to worry about grainy footage. If I already owned the mkii I would of course make it work, and the EVF would help with that. If I was making a purchase of one of these for the first time and if price wasn't an issue and I did photography 80% and video 20% of the time, then I would go with RX100 Mkvii. If I was casually into photos and video was the main priority, then I would go with the ZV1 mki or mkii. Overall 50mm zoom compared to 200mm is a big difference and it's hard to compare off that alone. Most would depend on the users needs.

    I have both cameras. The EVF makes the RX100 VII my clear favorite. Slo-mo is way better, the tele reach is better, EVF is super useful. The only advantages the ZV1 has is price, product showcase, and wider aperture. I I had to have just one camera, I would choose the RX100 VII. The only reason I keep the ZV1 is for product showcase.

    • @lessonslearnedwithcameras1782
      @lessonslearnedwithcameras1782 11 місяців тому

      Yeah my only reason for getting the ZV1 was for the wider aperture. I need better low light performance for the 1”sensor. RX100 Vii was more for the serious shooter. I’m ok with the 70mm zoom over the 200mm since I wasn’t doing nothing seriously with the extra distance and trying to keep true quality image. I have used product showcase a little but again nothing serious. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on both cameras.👍

      For Stills is there any difference in image quality between zv1 and RX100 VII regardless of zoom and evf.

    • @artistjoh
      @artistjoh 9 місяців тому

      @@khanniyaz8 Shouldn't be any significant difference in image quality, but most of us prefer an EVF for shooting stills, so there is a usability difference. The tele reach is significantly better on the RX100 VII, but the aperture is better on ZV1. As always, you need to decide which suits your needs better.
