I really think this is great for 1st time camera users, problem is that they will experience a steep learning curve and after a few months will want to upgrade. Problem is that they have paid 500$ and now will face an upgrade to a $700-$1200 camera. Not sure if you all agree but curious to hear your thoughts
YES Paul, thank you so much. I totally agree with you on that point. It is really great for 1st timers. It is a great way to understand the art of filmmaking. Thank you for the insight. Do you have the ZV-1F?
@@thefilmalliance Nope have the ZV-1 and see no reason to buy the F. I really believe that companies should stop branding cameras as "vlogging" as most of them disappoint in terms of walking talking heads. In terms of videography features they pack a lot of punch
@@TommyOhmalley the Sony zv 1 is not the best for vlogging but has 24-70 fixed lens and is great for all round video. Sony ZE-10 comes with an interchangeable mount it allows primes and zoom lenses to be mounted. But if you really want to vlog on the go. DJI Pocket 2, DJI Action 1 or GoPro 11 or Insta360 X3 are great alternatives in the price range. I feel for vlogging action cams have won the battle
@@PaulTakesPhotos I appreciate your insight. Thank you. I actually just starting researching the ZV-E10. More affirmation is reassuring. I won’t be on the go much but I will have to consider a GoPro for some of my ideas. Time will tell!
Hmm was thinking about upgrading from zv1 to zv1f but then after watching your review it doesn't really seem like an upgrade especially if I do some photography.
Just pulled the trigger on a ZV1F yesterday. The biggest factors for me turned out to be the 20mm focal length, and the tri pod mount swung me over. I use the shooting grip and being able to access battery and SD card without removing was huge. I had been trying to vlog with my A6400, but even using the kit lens was way too heavy. Hoping the stabilization on this new o e decent, because I kept reaching for the iPhone to shoot video.
Thank you so much for this review!! I am going to get the ZV-1F because my focus is on interesting verbal or action content rather than looking good and capturing cinematic things. Thanks heaps!! :)
Thx you...I think I will stick to the zv1 and if I will buy another camera for my wife..it will be ZV1 white stormtrooper colour...but the zv1 F might help encourage more people to get into UA-cam...so that would be nice due to its lesser price tag...
Pretty much a downgrade from zv1. I understand the logic of covering all price range but in my case that is a disappointment. Especially because zv1 is hardly more expensive when on sale. Odd. 😅
@@thefilmalliance It could be a great Bcam when price gap between ZV1 and ZV1F will be greater I reckon. And that should happen so wait and see. I find FX30 to be an interesting product but it has the opposite flaw. A bit of an overkill for my specific need and a price I am not ready to pay... yet. So in the meantime I am in technological watch mode thx to your channel!
I have the zv1 and there aren’t huge comparisons so I Will keep it until they release something better. I also haven’t gotten much use out of into besides testing it out. This was a great video.
Great video! I bought the ZV1 about a year ago and haven't even used it yet because the settings are too overwhelming. Lol! I'm NOT a tech guy and struggle with stuff like that. I wish that there was a course on just how to use the camera.
One of my go-to’s is to just dive into this stuff, figure it out, and then share it with you, so I totally understand that feeling. The settings are hard to deal with. Maybe I could make a course like that:)
This is a very interesting camera. I rarely use my ZV-1, because the 24mm is a little too tight, and I usually use wide shots. The ZV-1F might be a better option, and I wouldn't be surprised if the Ulanzi lens works with this. Unfortunately, the lack of an internal ND filter is something that puts me off from this camera. So, the real question is, what is a better option? Wider shot, or ND filter. Did you mention the battery size?
If you get yourself a gorillapod or even the Sony tripod work if you bend it more away from you. I would keep the ZV-1, because the ZV-1F looks pretty jittery and the nd filter is a must have, because in situations with much light it's always over exposed.
It should be mentioned that the ZV-1F has contrast detect only while the ZV-1 has a hybrid system for AF. Since I have a ZV-1 already I probably won't grab a ZV-1F, but it is tempting cause a fixed lens is easier on a gimbal.
Thank you, for mentioning that. That sounds like you got it figured out. I’ll be picking up the FX30 for sure. Yes this camera seems like it would be easier to balance on a gimbal
I’ve been conflicted between these 2 cameras and I’m still unsure but this video definitely helped me understand a lot better what similarities and differences they have ❤ thank you for the video!
Thanks for the video! Which camera do you recommend between the Sony ZV1 and the Sony ZV 1F for videos on UA-cam where I play the guitar and for some holiday photos?
I just wanted these as ZV-1 owner. 1:type-C 2:point-shoot(more wide) 3:change power-button position (always it’s covered by dead-cat) That’s all. It’s too much downgrade points….
I was interested in this “successor” until I heard 20mm prime. With an ILCE I am good using prime lenses, as I can change lenses. The new fully functional touchscreen is nice, but no reason to jump ship from my ZV-1.
The zv-1f has a max exposure of 1/4s where as the zv-1 goes to 30. That made the difference for me. Already have the zv-2 but that one is also 1/4 max which is a downgrade from previous model.. I didn't see that before I bought the -2 and was pretty disappointed. It's great for UA-cam filming but wanted to take occasional tripod night shots with the same camera.
The first price indication for the ZV-1F is EURO 649 at Amazon Germany, which is Euro 20 cheaper than the ZV-1. In the USA, the difference seems to be USD 200. What I can't stand on compact cameras are lens caps. The horizontal angle of view for the ZV-1 is 24mm in photo mode, about 27mm for 4k, and about 35mm when using Active Steady Mode. If these values are applied to the 20 mm lens of the ZV-1F, an angle of view of 28 mm in Active Steady Mode can be expected.
I got really sad an hour ago when I got an email the next version is out and I still don't have any content live that I made with my ZV-1.. Happy to know it's not an upgrade. I still need a DJI mic or something tho..
Great info, do you think this camera would be good for “how to” videos? I build on a work table and video close up of things I put together. Im looking for a good camera and a mic option as an upgrade to using my iphone. I dont do many headshots, mostly hands working with tools and such. Thanks.
Yes both cameras would be good for both photography in Vlogging, however I would recommend getting the zV one because then you will have more creative options as you grow in this craft. Have you made a decision on which one you want?
@@thefilmalliance Thank you for your reply. I am considering the Sony - AZV-E10 as well as the Sony - A7 IV. I would like to use the camera for indoor UA-cam product reviews, shopping vlogging, and good quality photography for travel, sightseeing, and nature. With that said, I am entry level, so point and shoot is probably what I should do, but I don't want to sacrifice picture quality. I am willing to dive-in and learn how to customize settings. Which of your videos do you recommend I watch to learn about a camera that suits my needs?
Which one would be a better choice for studio beauty content creation? Also which one of these id suitable for studio setups and travel vlogging both? Thank you for great insights.
@thefilmalliance I did, and it's all sooo confusing. I've been doing a lot of research lately. I want to add 2 cameras in my setup. Ideally, one, but I think no one camera would be good for vlogging and sit down beauty content filming. I have finalized Insta360 GO3 for vlogging and Sony ZV-1F for beauty content shoot. I'm yet to hit the 'place an order' button, but I do want to place it by this weekend. I was highly inclined towards buying a Canon Powershot V10 to be honest for the ease of use. I have 0 to negligible knowledge of cameras and I wanted something supremely easy to use. However, after going through so many negative reviews, I've finalized these two. What would you suggest here? Can Pocket3 be used for both vlogging and beauty content creation? I do need the beauty content to be zoomed in and super crisp quality.
I can always count on you! You help me so much❤️ when I buy myself a new camera 📸 I want to make video’s just as good as yours 🤩😇 YOU ARE AWSOME 🙏 never change
Going for the zv-1 or zv-e10 (depending of the price in my country, they have fluctuated a lot recently) reason being: I wanna be able to use the hot mount, want to a abel to zoom without digital zoom and bc I’ve seen so reviews where the auto focus is not as perfect on the new zv-1f.
@@thefilmalliance I have appreciated your video blogging on the Zv-1 and have used that camera on occasion in shooting a wide variety of non-blogging projects. I think Sony's 1" Exmor RS sensor and BIONZ X processor are amazing in all the important ways. I own a full line of Sony cameras that use this sensor/processor combo: RX0M2; ZV-1; X700; NX80; Z90; and I just ordered the ZV-1F based on your review. One of the great things about this line is they all match very well in color when using multiple cameras. In addition they all have low noise even at moderate ISOs up to 4000, sharp lenses, low power, small size/light weight; similar Picture Profiles; and the same highly efficient XAVC S file format, except the Z90 which includes 24-bit audio. With a camera family that big I can always find the right combo of lenses and features to meet my needs and know color matching with be a breeze. The only area that Sony hasn't address yet is 10-bit color, and you can only get 4:2:2 recording, in camera, on the Z90. The ZV-1F introduced the widest lens yet at 20mm (full frame equivalent) taking the camera family range from 20-348mm.
I like this guy.the way he is talking is superb and clear..also want to know which camera ur using for this video and I can’t see any mic.can u explain about ur setup please ❤
Great video for the comparison. I am just doing an impulse by on a camera that I should look good while taking photos and Not use my phone all the time which drains battery and fills up my memory
Thank you for the comparison video! What are your thoughts of using either ZV1's vs Gopro for vlogging? I've been using a mix of both A6500 and Gopro for the time being but wanted to use one for B-Cam.
Why Sony removed from this new model the effective stabilization of the Zv-1 and why it removed phase detection, opting only for contrast detection, and finally, why Sony betting on a 20mm fixed lens, got worse your aperture, from f/1.8 that the Zv-1 had to f/2 this Zv-1 F ? Why didn't they set it to an aperture of f/1.4 since it's now a fixed focal length?
Quick question I’m hoping you see this but what would you recommend for someone who has a streetwear clothing brand and wants to take photos and shoot promo videos
Awesome comparo! The threaded barrel is great, mic in is a must. But I think this camera would be a bigger hit if it was $75 less, or included the shooting grip commander for the price.
That's awesome. The zv1f is definitely a great camera and you will not regret your decision. Thanks for this comment. Are there any Zv1f video suggestions that you have?

Great video! I use my ZV-1 for top down shots, but not for vlogging because 24mm isn't wide enough. I'd love to switch to this for the 20mm lens, but digital zoom doesn't look good from what i've seen so far, so I don't think itll be good for top down (I have to zoom a little bit and since the ZV-1f is wider, ill have to zoom more than usual for framing). Do you think the digital zoom looks bad? Can't decide what to do haha
Digital zoom doesn't really look bad unless the OG footage isn't stabilized, or you set the key frames too close or far apart. This results in a zoom that happens to quick or too slow, and looks unnatural. As far as 24 mm goes for a wide angle. I agree with you. I shoot top down whenever I record myself painting, and 24 mm has never given me enough. If I was to mount a camera to my ceiling, it would be wide enough, but that's not practical. I highly suggest looking into the Gopro 11. I know it doesn't have zoom or a flip screen, but you can't beat it for vlogging in a tight space. The only thing that has even come close for me, is using a Samyang 14mm on my full frame Canon 5D. Looks amazing, but hard to set up for a top down view due to weight.
Did you ever switch over from your ZV-1? I’m looking to pick one up specifically for top down shots and can’t find any good reviews for that specific purpose
@@hannahdanana I did end up switching but i'm not sure which of my top down videos were filmed with it so I can't point you to one of my specific videos. unless your top down camera mount is really low and you need the wider lens to fit everything in, i think the ZV-1 is the way to go. I switched because I wanted to also vlog with the ZV1F. I would rather use the ZV1 for top down though. Hope that helps!

OK so I have some issues with this camera. I got mine and did some test, and for me, it just is not good enough. I use my iPhone 13 Pro and the quality is much better, it's easier to use and the grading I am doing works fine. I would say for a beginning vlogger this might work but I would be very careful under what conditions you use it. There are better choices out there. Just my take on this camera.
Thank you so much for your insight. I completely understand what you are saying. I think that it would work for a vlogger, like you said but you definitely have to be careful under certain conditions. Thank you. Did you return yours?
@@thefilmalliance Yes I did return it. The vlogging I am doing is static and more point and shoot type vlogging...of me working on a project from one angle or another with NO movement, so my iPhone woks excellent for that. and the quality is fine for what I am doing.
Hey mate, when you uploaded the film you made with the Sony zv1, did you use a computer with a special graphics card or did you use a computer with an average low performance graphics card?
Hey! New subscriber here 👋 Thank you for being so detailed about these Sony models. I do have a question regarding audio input, specifically what you described around 8:30 mark; Since there is no available audio interference playback compatibility, I'm thinking of buying a secondary microphone in order to achieve that capability. And perhaps when editing content I can just stack the audio from the external microphone over the visuals. Because as you said, nobody wants to film amazing footage to come home and find out there is no audio whatsoever. I would love a recommendation or perhaps a link to one of your vids that go over that topic if you have any. I am a huge audio head, I do music production at the moment and use the Scarlett 2i2 audio interface with my computer. Would like to have the same, or relatively close, quality as that while filming on the ZV-1F whether it is the attachable Sony boom mic or a stand alone microphone. To summarize, I want to hear the audio as I am filming. Thank you!!
If you only need 4k video content for UA-cam and Tiktok, but we'll mostly be filming miniature sets (doll house size) - what camera won't disappoint for mostly tripod video but also once in a blue for video logging? Will any of these two models do? We don't want crappy, amateur 4k video obviously. I know that normally you'd want portrait/macro lenses for close-up detailed stuff?

@@moritz-zee cause kit lens is bad and other lenses cost so much
Which do you prefer?
I got the Sony zv 1 and ever since I been binge watching all your content for this cam and even considering actually doing some photography 😅
Wow, that's awesome. Thanks for sharing. I actually have a video doing photography with the Zv1. Maybe it will help you with your photography. Also, thank you for all of the encouragement. ua-cam.com/video/F4e5USiGZUA/v-deo.html
Thanks a lot for clearing doubts in my mind! Just got my zv1f from Australia, and now I can use it confidently!
Glad that it helped you. I also appreciate you taking the time to comment and let me know. How are you enjoying your camera so far?
What Camera do you suggest?
Very cool, but I think the f/1.8 and the built-in ND will keep me faithful to ZV-1.
I can't believe you liked the old menu system. It was universally panned, and it was the main reason I didn't keep my ZV1
Great to see Sony sent you a new camera model for review!! That means you are under Sony’s radar! Congrats!!!
Im not there yet, hopefully soon though. I just went off of everything I've researched about this new camera. Will you be picking one up?
I use the zv1 with an attachment lens at it slaps. plus the built in ND filter.. I think the zv1 still takes the cake.
Oh cool Aaron, thanks for letting me know. Yes, I think the Zv1 def takes the cake.
You have facial features for a Hollywood actor.
Woody Harrelson
No raw photos no deal. The ZV-1 actually has really good dynamic range.
absolutely, no raw is too bad as current smartphones have this.
Hmm was thinking about upgrading from zv1 to zv1f but then after watching your review it doesn't really seem like an upgrade especially if I do some photography.
Thanks for this. Was skeptical about zv1f because I do travel vlogging, but you have given me much to think about.
Thank you, I am glad you are getting value from my videos. What are your thoughts?
No problem, glad that you know what you are looking for. Please tell what you think about it when you get it.
How is it going?
Your talking head shot is so clean! Great job
Your quality is so good looks like a movie. Great video!
Thank you I really appreciate that
I liked the zv-1f at a first look, for the pancake lens, but not having raw photo is a deal breaker.
Hi! Is SONY ZV-1F good for beauty videos?
We are podcaster, mostly setting will be still and on a setup settings sessions. What would you recommend us? Zv1 or zv1f?
ZV-1f
Thx you...I think I will stick to the zv1 and if I will buy another camera for my wife..it will be ZV1 white stormtrooper colour...but the zv1 F might help encourage more people to get into UA-cam...so that would be nice due to its lesser price tag...
Pretty much a downgrade from zv1. I understand the logic of covering all price range but in my case that is a disappointment. Especially because zv1 is hardly more expensive when on sale. Odd. 😅
Hey there, it could act as a great Bcam for your ZV-1. Will you be picking up the FX30?
@@thefilmalliance It could be a great Bcam when price gap between ZV1 and ZV1F will be greater I reckon. And that should happen so wait and see. I find FX30 to be an interesting product but it has the opposite flaw. A bit of an overkill for my specific need and a price I am not ready to pay... yet. So in the meantime I am in technological watch mode thx to your channel!
I have the zv1 and there aren’t huge comparisons so I Will keep it until they release something better. I also haven’t gotten much use out of into besides testing it out. This was a great video.
Hey there, thank you for sharing with us. Also thank you for the positive feedback. I really appreciate it.
The only thing that ZVF MIGHT be better is the stabilization.
Ulanzi got a fix for width of the lens and macro as Bonus.
So... ZV1.
The ZV1 has better stabilization and better AF
Great video! I bought the ZV1 about a year ago and haven't even used it yet because the settings are too overwhelming. Lol! I'm NOT a tech guy and struggle with stuff like that. I wish that there was a course on just how to use the camera.
One of my go-to’s is to just dive into this stuff, figure it out, and then share it with you, so I totally understand that feeling. The settings are hard to deal with. Maybe I could make a course like that:)
@@thefilmalliance a course would be awesome!!
Thank you for your response!
Thank you for the straight to the point comparison between the 2 camera models. It really helped. Just subscribed. Thanks mate!
Thanks Carmela. Do you have either of these?
I love my small ZV1 especially for holidays 😍 it is a perfect bts cam for FX6 filming
I think there are some new options on how to put a nd filter on the ZV-1F
You can buy the ulanzi wide angle for zv1.
The audio straight out of the camera is probably the best on-board mic I've used. It also works well with my Sony radio mic and lav
I have to agree with you. Which camera did you end up going with?
thanks for the update. im just bought my zv1 about 4 months. im happy with it. if im upgrade i will go for zv-e10.😍😍
Thanks for the video! Which camera do you recommend between the Sony ZV1 and the Sony ZV 1F for videos on UA-cam where I play the guitar and for some holiday photos?
ZV-1 F is my recommendation
Thanks so much!!@@thefilmalliance
I'm going for the zv1f because of the price, seam to me the features are better than the zv1f.
I was waiting for the upgraded zv1 but sony chose to release a downgrade after 2 years. Just pre ordered the FX30.
Maybe that was their motive. Release a downgraded version of the ZV-1 and force our hand to buy the FX30?
Contemplating the same move. 😂
I just wanted these as ZV-1 owner.
1:type-C
2:point-shoot(more wide)
3:change power-button position (always it’s covered by dead-cat)
That’s all.
It’s too much downgrade points….
Wonderful review... Does the ZV-1 have a good Active Tracker so it tracks you where you go? thanks.
Thank you. Do you mean focus tracking? If so, then us it does. Hope that helps
I was interested in this “successor” until I heard 20mm prime. With an ILCE I am good using prime lenses, as I can change lenses.
The new fully functional touchscreen is nice, but no reason to jump ship from my ZV-1.
Yay! I get to keep my (still within return period) White ZV1 that I only paid $650 for! Not being to zoom in is a deal breaker!
thanks for the complete info, I was going crazy to buy the zv-1f but thanks to this video I wait for de zv-1
Congratulations on a great channel and great videos. You do a very nice job reviewing and comparing.
What was this video shot on?
I'm still very happy with my zv-1 after 2 years. Maybe if I ever get the money I will buy the zv-1f for a 2nd cam. Thanks for the review!
Hey Greg, thats awesome. I'm glad that still you like the Zv1, it is a very well made cam.

Thanks.
Thanks for this! Are these cameras good for both photography and vlogging? Or is it recommended that I purchase two separate cameras?
Sticking with the ZV-1
Which one would be a better choice for studio beauty content creation? Also which one of these id suitable for studio setups and travel vlogging both? Thank you for great insights.
Every camera has its different use for different applications. Have you tried taking my camera quiz? This may get you in the right direction.
Which one should I buy
Zv1 or zv1f
For my travel vlog
I can always count on you! You help me so much❤️ when I buy myself a new camera 📸 I want to make video’s just as good as yours 🤩😇 YOU ARE AWSOME 🙏 never change
Thanks Brian, that was super nice of you. Will you be picking one up? and if so, for what? vlogging?
Going for the zv-1 or zv-e10 (depending of the price in my country, they have fluctuated a lot recently) reason being: I wanna be able to use the hot mount, want to a abel to zoom without digital zoom and bc I’ve seen so reviews where the auto focus is not as perfect on the new zv-1f.
Using it mainly for sitdown video’s and some vlogging
The way I look at it, the ZV-1F is a cheap 20mm lens that happens to record video as well. I will try it in my workflow.
Haha that's so funny. Yes, I agree. What a perfect way to describe it. I should have called this ZV-1 vs 20mm lens that records video

Avoid the GoPro if you want to record for longer, or in warmer environments.
Gopro is great for vlogging. Press and go!
Great comparison.
In between both of them which you recommend for cooking videos
I would recommend the Zv1, just because it is a better overall camera.
Did you ever buy a camera? If not, then I can sell you my ZV-1 like new at a good price!
Nice info coach. But I’ll stick to the ZV-1 because it does everything I needed to. Plus I read one of The comments saying there is rolling shutter
Hey Tone, yes the ZV1 is perfect for you, I agree
So helpful, thank you. And I’ll also be subscribing!

@Luke Venus Sony UK site says that the £550.00 price does not include the grip, “…the GP-VPT2BT Shooting Grip…sold separately“ ☹️

Sony could have worked on a ulanzi type wide angle adapter lens for ZV1....

Vlogger newbie here, Did you say the ZV-1F may be better for outside? If I want to Pan out?
Very nice and positive commentary on both cameras. I’m glad you placed the ZV E10 in the hierarchy of Sony vlogging cameras.

Dude! Great video, after watching your video I'm going to get the 1F... much appreciated!
That is great. Please let me know what you think about it when you get it.
Hey! New subscriber here 👋 Thank you for being so detailed about these Sony models. I do have a question regarding audio input, specifically what you described around 8:30 mark;
Since there is no available audio interference playback compatibility, I'm thinking of buying a secondary microphone in order to achieve that capability.
Thank you!!
