- This is a PowerA branded Nintendo Switch wireless controller with a faulty left joystick. I swap it with a working joystick from a PowerA wired controller. PowerA sent a replacement controller without hassle, which was a nice bonus and props to them for doing so.

thank you for this!! just successfully cleaned and fixef my controller because of this vid 😊💕
Very timely upload. I'll be doing a similar repair from a donor controller soon. Wanted to see it done before digging in.
I dont have a heat gun nor can i solder but understanding how its broken down and what part was unfixable by your standards helped me figure out what i can do to fix my wired powerA controller 😆 I’ll instead buy any wired controller regardless of the faceplate and switch out the motherboard entirely cuz I like my mario faceplate the most. And I’ll save the old parts incase if I do end up getting to this lvl of repairs in the future since I still have one joystick that works fine at least lol
Same problem with mine. Took a lot of googling to find you here. Shame the mechanism basically needs to be replaced, I was hoping there would just need to be something tightened.
Very nice Bro 👍👍👍
Thanks, i accidentally popped out one of my joysticks and was worried i had to buy a whole new controller. Glad i found this video, also may i ask what tool you used to easily unscrew the nails? Looks really handy.
ses pro screwdriver, here's I think the updated version maybe www.amazon.com/Screwdriver-ARROWMAX-Screwdriver-Rechargeable-SES/dp/B0B3R3T5MF/ref=asc_df_B09PBJB4D5/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=563689353499&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=5538259338525236087&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9023845&hvtargid=pla-1641843529586&th=1
This is exactly my problem and it’s also a powerA controller!
Dang, after seeing that the joycons used ribbon cables I was hoping the pro style controllers would be simple too. I've replaced analog sticks on Xbox 360 and X1 controllers for years and it's such a pita, because there are like a dozen legs to desolder
I see slots for rumble motors I wonder if it’s possible to add rumble to these things
What tools would I need to replace the stick on the controller? I have one where the stick is lose. Had it for years, but I want to try to fix it before I throw it away. Even if I've already got a replacement... that didn't work right... I think it was a sensor. The company has surprisingly good costumer service since it was replaced for free. .... But that replacement has drift too.... Again, I think it's the sensor on that one too. It wild that this is the same brand who's controller's worked for 2 years without much of a problem. Guess I need to order sensors.
witch electronic driver are you using iv got a few but iv yet to see a usb c one like yours.
thank you for sharing this video, i just opened up this same exact controller to fix mine thanks to this video and its honestly not a bad design compared to what i have seen... its not as easy to clean BUT it is much easier to change the entire analog stick off of the PCB. i guess there are always pro's and con's to designs... you want it easier to service or easier to change out completely? can't have both.
Where can I buy a bunch of these joysticks replacement for power A controllers?? I have two gamecube power A controllers that have power drift, both less than 1 year old
Have you replaced the thumb sticks on the PowerA controllers for Nintendo Switch before? I'm having trouble finding replacements. Any suggestions?
Just this one which was PowerA to PowerA, I can't say if they are anything special or proprietary.
Can you switch a left joystick to the right in another remote?
Yes, I believe left and right are identical!
My controller joystick works its the d pad and plus and minus buttons that don't work and the home and picture button all others work. Where can I get replacement parts
Typically I would just use another broken controller as a source for parts.
Would it be possible to replace the joystick with an Xbox/PlayStation/ switch pro controller joystick? Seems similar in size. If the stick itself is fine but the controller still drifts, could you just take out the old potentiometers and replace them with new ones from a different type of analog stick? I just have tons of Xbox/PS joysticks, and want to repair my Power A controller (I don’t have another power A controller to replace the old stick)
I would say as long as everything fits and the max resistance is the same on the carbon tracks then yes.
@@Rezendes Thank you
How do you remove the cover? I’m trying to get to the joysticks but it won’t let me :(
Literally just re watch the video
Do you by any chance know where to get a replacement piece
Sorry, I just have spare controllers and parts in a bin.
Gosh darn it, I want to repair mine but I don’t have and cannot afford the soldering tools.
Mouser sells great replacement stick modules, I used the ones for the ones from the ps5. Just pop out the little white disks on the side and pop I the new ones. No soldering needed
where do i gt the replacement joycons
AliBaba
Mine was fine until my brother threw it
Dang! Can't help you with that one.
DO NOT BUY POWER A CONTROLLERS WEAK JOYSTICKS
I would highly recommend the 8bitdo Ultimate controller $70 www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B9BGJVLL
Idk I had some crappy ones but I do have one that still works
King Kong pro 2 from gulikit is the best controller, go black though because the white stains really quickly, but doesn't have the silver triggers that fade overtime...
