I read a lot of comments about how people enjoyed far more the first game and I can understand why. The story felt more original, I agree, and more put together. HOWEVER! I had the time of my life paying both games and I ADORE the second one. So this video just make my heart happy and I appreciate all your efforts into explaining in detail the lore of horror games 💜💛
My assumption is probably because it is too clean. The first one is grimy and gritty while the second one is tidy and clean which doesnt make it feel like the first one. The story in the first one leaves many hole in the mystery to be explored while the second seem to have feel like they are over explaining everything. Also the fate of a sequel not feeling as fresh as the first release as it only feel like a variation of the first and many distorted reality type games seems to be popular at the time. These are just assumption tho.
Dude I love the first one because it was new and scary Ruvik was super creepy. The second is a masterpiece because it has everything the first was lacking. It’s less scary and if you do the right things it could be super easy to pass through the games.
the way the second game ends, jumping back and forth between Sebastian and Juli, fast paced building tension, the ending was amazing. Loved it! but still, Ruvik is my favorite antagonist of all time. Creating a wireless version of stem to force his way out. So badass. Even after part 2 im dying to know what happened to leslie and Ruvik.
I want them to make the 3rd game and bring back the first game’s lore and characters. Also bring back the first game’s voice actors for Seb and Kidman plz…
The first game definitely has a better story, because the second is very disjointed and jumps around. BUT, I will say the second is what drew me into the series, especially because of some of the level design. Stefano’s level was something I had never seen before and I was in wonder while also being disgusted with his attitude towards murder. It reminds me of that one villain from bioshock. I think they’d have been better off with taking that concept further and splitting the game into levels pertaining to the minds of different people, or perhaps their trauma - I love how Sebastian’s trauma from the first game is tied in. But anyways, maybe it’d be kinda like psychonauts, with unique levels displaying the mind of each person - I don’t think this would be that hard to explain because of how stem connects everybody and the fact that everyone contributes. I ended up rambling a ton lmao, but I do wish the second game could be more appreciated because it does have some really strong and enticing points to it.
The first title while having the darker story a way more flashy story with countless turning points really struggles to tell the story we are getting through. The whole stem is like a big mess where countless horrible things happen but there is not much of an explaination why they happen. In the evil within 2 things get a lot clearer and aren't as much of a mess. You end up with information missing but unlike with the first game I didn't really need a video comprehend what is going on in this title
Seriously thanks for putting in the effort to make these explained videos, I love horror lore but don't have the stomach to play it myself 😂 You explain everything so clearly and concisely! Thankyou!
Same reason I love this channel! Except it's not so much the scary for me as it is the tension. I already have anxiety problems, I'm a sweaty chain smoking mess in the first five minutes 😂
We need a third game with the development team of the first one! I loved the first one so much more than the second. It was way scarier. Hated the open world. And the story was better. The third one should follow Kidman and should feature Sebastian and Joseph. Myra could've been the one to reboot stem from the inside? And we need Ruvik back pleaaassseeee.
I know im very late but thanks to this I've noticed a super interesting detail, the symbols all over kidmans town are a 'church' (cult) cross, but not just any cross, Theodore's cross, so that might be implied that Theodore corrupted kidman's town and she never knew that because she never participated
About the nurse, I believe it's mentioned in the first season that "she saw alot of what happened in beacon but wasn't affected (like mentally) by it therefore she was chosen to serve a higher purpose " so she's probably an agent just like Kidman cuz u can see her passing by while playing dead
The first Evil Within game was so much better, in my opinion the second didn't make much sense and was all over the place, kinda wish they would've focused on Sebastian looking for Ruvik/Leslie. Supposedly Ghostwire Tokyo was supposed to be the third game but was scrapped to be a different game😢

I didn't play the first one, and thought this was amazing. Wasn't hard to put the pieces together after they expand on the Stem story line, secret org, not hard to realise. Using an artificial conciousness of sorts despite being alive. Training then they use those chips to control everyone. No brain chip in Sebastian, so that was the way out. Kidman took hers out. He's reliving past traumas, and the game is a Metaphor, for purging his inner demons overall. Everyone uses his vulnerability to their advantage. Thats how you entered in the first place, being your daughter, and wife a cop also, trying to find out what happened. Fire at the start of the game, was stems way of clearing things up. Broadcast inside stem, to directly kill everyone else connected via chips within mobiushence the matyr of your wife. The mirror(safe room) is your mind, its all fragmented based on the glass shattered. Literally lines all throughout the game. Even the end clears a lot of things up with the purgatory, being the abyss, when you get to finishing the game. I mean i absolutely loved it, just finished ghostwire since i thought the devs did such a great job. That wasn't as good at all, had hints of stem, but its the spirit world, so not really, same sound effects, in the abyss areas etc. Anyway TEW 2 was amazing to be. Absolute masterpiece, stealth, ai buggy, and played on hard. Was good, and i understood that half the game was a mindfuck so pay attention. @ralphwarom2514 I agree. It kinda feels more like a few very big but very focused and detailed levels in the game rather than some open-world Ubislop. There were many direct and linear moments too.
I think your wrong about Julian Sykes he got out. He was lucky to be the 25% to get of stem or union. Because after you do his requests, you need to go back to his safe house. For a weapon and there was a message from him that reads: Message from Sykes This message seems to have been scribbled hastily on a scrap of paper: "Thanks for the help in here, Sebastian. I wish they made a dlc where we could play as sykes. They didn't really reveal what happened to him after he left and when we read the files it says that only 1 out of 3 people return alive after the experiment and 2 people get lost into the unknown. Wish we could've played sykes when he gets lost in the unknown and help him get back. I reckon that would've been really cool
If they would have made DLC I assume it would have been around Esmerelda or Sykes. And Joseph would've been the third game. But probably never got either because sales werent good, and people complaining they didnt like it. Sad for the folks who did. But it happens. Maybe someday we'll get that third game at least.
In simple terms: To me the first game was near perfect, whereas the 2nd games highs were brilliant eg Stefano and the "art", the monsters and the cults etc, but as a whole couldnt keep pace with the highs so overall was bumpier. Still both brilliant and worth playing, i think the creators had so many ideas to fit in one game hence why theyre so different
I didn't think about it when initially listening to Manny Sherman's interviews in The Devil in Me. But when you pointed that he sees his work as "an aesthetic response to what the world shaped him into", i.e. "murder/death is artwork", it made me think immediately of fellow serial killer and "murder artist" Stefano Valentini. The original Evil Within had wonderful storytelling, even for more impatient players who didn't take the time to find and follow the "story threads" of documents about Sebastian's life, people going missing from Krimson City, experiments with STEM, and STEM victims' final records. The gameplay and graphics were clunky in places and glitchy as hell though, a common consensus from many players. Many players also complained of how Sebastian has the emoting ability of a brick wall, i.e. lack of emotional range in typical "film noir detective" fashion. The Evil Within 2 has the opposite sets of problems: streamlined, smooth gameplay and graphics; different actor for Sebastian, but more emotional range and drive (not a bad thing in my opinion, though some people criticize); and a story that is disjointed in places and predictable in others, such as Myra being the ultimate "villain" and Sebastian being the sole survivor of STEM like the last game. Like many players, I agree that Father Theodore and Stefano should have been swapped in terms of places on the boss roster. Valentini, being a fellow psychopath like Ruvik, held enough appeal/hit enough beats to keep fans of the original FINAL BOSS interested while breaking new ground with his artistic creativity. Plus, his voice could melt several pairs of underwear, even if the actor was not a real Italian.
If you go through the optional dialogue with Sykes, he said the first thing he was gunna do when he escaped stem was remove the chip in his head. I hope he was in the lucky %25 and took out his chip in time to avoid the Mobius purge.
They gave way to much information in the second one giving you a explanation for almost everything, unlike giving u very minimum explanation for everything in the first I feel like that’s what made the first one so great and what made everyone turned off from the second
In TEW1, I assumed Tatiana was a manifestation by Leslie to help Sebastian (Leslie must have encountered plenty of nurses), but since she returns in TEW2 without Leslie, perhaps she's actually something Sebastian's unconscious brought to STEM ever since he entered it the first time, in Beacon. After all, the Warden crossbow and its Agony bolts seem to be particular to Sebastian only.
I always thought she was a manifestation of Sebastian's desire or something, maybe an idea of comfort and care since she lost myra but then a missing poster indicate she was also one of the victims. How she became to be, is still unexplained, it's a h weead scratcher Though i like harry's explanation on her reaappearance in the 2nd game. Maybe tatiana was in seb's subconscious together with the office safe haven.
she's probably in the depths of the system after her body was disposed of when they thought she died. is it too much of a stretch to think the secret society used some of the same parts for the new version and she just transferred over? lots of people in the medical profession have had psychopathic tendencies in the past, serial killers who "took pain away" and such. but they would also have a higher tolerance to mental trauma due to the strains of their profession probably leading to a god like state (if we akin the antagonists to demon's running rampant) where she has power but like the MC's daughter it is benign aiding and protecting only or controlled by her will but less than that of the antagonists.
Personally i need a 3rd game, mostly cause i wanna know more about Tatiana. But i dint enjoy the 2nd one as much as the first wasn't as scary or creepy. I think the open world kinda ruined the sense of scares. I hope the 3rd if there is one goes back to being like the first one.
Love both of these games but thank you for these lore videos. I play games and then don't play them for ages and forget what is going on so a huge thank you 💜 Favorite boss and character was the photographer
Not many games can top the feeling you get when you reach Chapter 16 "In limbo". I play in FPP and when you first see the snowy remains.. and hear that music...... I'll never forget... Pure Art.
Thank you for the explanation video along with the lore! It’s always interesting to know about the lore Kinda know the 3rd won’t ever be release but still hope for it because i need to see Joseph again 😔
The original evil within had dlc where you play as the executioner. In there you fight the remnants of everyone in the first stem, were potentially Joseph died. Just something that you might have missed.
No actually, in that DLC his body is never seen in the tubs, and Kidman says he is alive when you find all the projector slides and get a secret one. Maybe he's also a core? We only know the cores had to have either psychopathic tendancies or no ego, Joseph doesn't appear to have an ego so maybe!
The plot never made sense to me because all these things like kidnapping or even murder wouldn’t happen for a computer simulation. I mean resident evil plot is ridiculous but at least it’s world was real and actually had consequences.
Second one was better in every aspect other than the horror aspect, the resource gathering and open world nature of the game make the game overall better then the first, but in a trade off is the more linear crafted horror sequences which are superior in the first game.
Ugh I love the second game I wish y’all could get over some of its faults like y’all would with the first one. It’s a great step up albeit huge atmosphere change but just because it isn’t the same doesn’t mean it’s bad.
It's definitly a very good game. I just prefer the original. I hate when games pander to fan complaints unless it's major. Evil within 2 was significantly easier. I hate that
Anyone else feel the combination of black, white and red means something? Its the administrators colors, its the kitty cats colors and its Tatiana's colors. Are they all connected?
Maybe Tatiana had very slight Psychopathic tendencies when they put her into the system so she creates her own reality but unlike the others she isn't a corrupting force because they are so slight or like the MC her mental strength, hardened by seeing death and insanity as part of her day to day job as a nurse, is such that she controls her power. why she helps the MC? probably to get back at the people who have stuck her into the system in some way that has negated her physical existence. She might have been lost in the sub levels for a bit in the experiments and when she managed to get out found her body to be missing(disposed of) and then tried to get back to the main system and came into the advents of the first game, now she was probably in the town disguised as someone else to just live a semi normal life. And yeah a third game is necessary to tie up the loose ends.
I’m still salty about how poorly written this game was as a sequel. The story had no connection to the first game, Sebastian changed way too much from the original, his motivation was so dumb, the antagonists were all weak and had little impact on the story, the characters were all one-dimensional, the whole story about Seb’s “guilt” made no sense and the climax sequence was really cringe.
WTH? Did we play the same game? TEW 2 was heavily tied to the first and its story was at least acceptable, if not good. Sebastian's motivation was as believable as can be: rescuing his daughter, which not only is critical hook on its own but it was directly related to his sense of guilt for not saving her from the house fire. Sebastian had a clear and understandable character arc from the beginning of TEW1 through the end of TEW2, if a bit cookie-cutter. Valentini was an excellent antagonist, as he was finally someone that wasn't bent on world domination. His method of killing and savoring it was gruesome, creepy, and novel. Admittedly Wallace was pretty forgettable. TEW2 > TEW1
@@sab6437 No. It was just a terrible sequel. Most would agree that TEW2 was radically different from the first game, especially storywise. Even Sebastian was like a completely different person and the entire game felt like a poorly written fanfiction. And that’s why it flopped and got a lot of hate by the fans of the first game. You came from the another universe I guess.
@@fgih5228 No. If TEW2 is such a terrible sequel and largely hated by fans of TEW1, why does it have a 10% higher Steam score than TEW1? Same thing on Metacritic and Opencritic, for both fans and critics. Face it, you're clearly wrong about the general perception of TEW2 and in the minority. Also, I cannot believe one of your criticisms is that TEW2 has a different story than TEW1. Of course it does, did you want them to rehash the same thing or something 🙄? TEW2 does a great job of logically building from the foundation set by TEW1, both for the story generally and Sebastian personally. Who's understanding is from another universe, again?

Nah it was going to be evil within 3 which they changed ti something stupid Tokyo ghost whores or something
Never gonna play, never even heard, but listening you explain sure brings the herd.
You should. Its really fun
Second that! This is a game worth trying
Me too, I would shit my pants playing a game like this, but watching the story is very intriguing.
@@AbsolAhm hmm maybe the next in the series
@@Sengg0 ikr good story telling and would love to expirience doest hand, but I'm a wuss
In simple terms:
To me the first game was near perfect, whereas the 2nd games highs were brilliant eg Stefano and the "art", the monsters and the cults etc, but as a whole couldnt keep pace with the highs so overall was bumpier.
*gets to anima part of video* oh hey my favorite ffx summon
Definitely need a third game to tie all the pieces together
and now thanks to Microsoft we won't get a third game 😔😩
I'm just disappointed that Stefano didn't have a bigger part. I really thought he'd be the main villain.
Just so you know, Sebastian would be considered the "protagonist", while Valentini and Wallace would be considered "antagonists."
Pinned comment 👍
Thanks for making this story videos. As a dad of a few kids, I have no more time playing games. This is the next best thing. Keep it up
Preferred the first one.
This game was crazy!! 10 out of 10 definitely! 👍
If you go through the optional dialogue with Sykes, he said the first thing he was gunna do when he escaped stem was remove the chip in his head. I hope he was in the lucky %25 and took out his chip in time to avoid the Mobius purge.
I hope Joseph Oda will be the next protagonist of the third game
That would be cool! You think that Kidman is going to be the one searching for him?
Idk why but I have a feeling that Joseph is not a good guy...
Only seb is the protag
How she became to be, is still unexplained, it's a h weead scratcher
Though i like harry's explanation on her reaappearance in the 2nd game.
Maybe it’s probs the child nanny that was killed in the fire that supposedly killed Lily
I love these games I know the second game wasn't what people wanted but even though it wasn't as good as the first game it was still great.
One of my favorite games!
Nurse Tatiana was with us since day one!😩
They should make ruvix the albert wesker of the evil within
Straight to the point, clear and well written. Great video, Harry! Keep up the good work!
My biggest question after this second game, what happened to MYRA??? There is no way she's dead. Maybe it was her turning the Stem screen on again?
Perhaps.
That end bit leaves so many possibilities.
She sacrificed herself... she's gone. Moment of silence
I really hope for a 3rd Game to
Love both of these games but thank you for these lore videos. I play games and then don't play them for ages and forget what is going on so a huge thank you 💜
Favorite boss and character was the photographer
Not many games can top the feeling you get when you reach Chapter 16 "In limbo". I play in FPP and when you first see the snowy remains.. and hear that music...... I'll never forget... Pure Art.
Thank you for the explanation video along with the lore! It’s always interesting to know about the lore
Kinda know the 3rd won’t ever be release but still hope for it because i need to see Joseph again 😔
This game was a big disappointment for me. I hope they retcon the second game for the third entry.
We might not even get a third one
Lol no
@@160sharp lol yes

Really wish this game gets another sequel to give closure to storyline
Really appreciate what you're doing man keep it up
Tango game works has renewed the trademark for evil within. I'm hopeful for a third installment.
The trilogy needs to happen!
Straight here from your first vid !
Thanks for this one, no offense taken 😂
The original evil within had dlc where you play as the executioner. In there you fight the remnants of everyone in the first stem, were potentially Joseph died. Just something that you might have missed.
The Executioner takes place after The Evil Within ends but it’s not considered canon. More of a bonus game mode.
Now the story for the evil within 1 is more broken than before now that I know that the executioner is canon
The plot never made sense to me because all these things like kidnapping or even murder wouldn’t happen for a computer simulation. I mean resident evil plot is ridiculous but at least it’s world was real and actually had consequences.
I'll take a whole game exploring Joseph Oda's side of the story with his sexy behind lol. Great video!
Second one was better in every aspect other than the horror aspect, the resource gathering and open world nature of the game make the game overall better then the first, but in a trade off is the more linear crafted horror sequences which are superior in the first game.
This sequel is so shit compared to the first one, I just hope they make a 3rd installment that’s better
Agreed, the first one was much better than 2.
Nah your opinion is shit, this game was good
loved this game, really enjoyed it, the story and the gameplay.
Four years later and im still waiting for a sequel...
Me too bro I think it will happen
@@Diabeticninja90 tango games is destroyed by microsoft
Ugh I love the second game I wish y’all could get over some of its faults like y’all would with the first one. It’s a great step up albeit huge atmosphere change but just because it isn’t the same doesn’t mean it’s bad.
It's definitly a very good game. I just prefer the original. I hate when games pander to fan complaints unless it's major. Evil within 2 was significantly easier. I hate that
There has been some success though 18:36 - 18:38.
What the hell happened to Joseph? :(
He's still alive, that's all we know...for now...

Nicole said she would explain later.
Maybe it was done offscreen.
Anyone else feel the combination of black, white and red means something?
Its the administrators colors, its the kitty cats colors and its Tatiana's colors. Are they all connected?
Was the second one a bad game? No. Was my disappointment crushing when if first came out? Absolutely. Not a bad game, just a bad sequel.
Underrated channel!!!! You are the best!!!!!
It was so much better than the first
It had ALOT to do with the first and was 10 times better than the first... Like WHAT
So nice to have entertaining and concise explanations for these more complicated games

Weirdest thing about this game is that the Japanese chick’s last name is “Hoffman”. And yes I checked she doesn’t have a wedding ring
She could be adopted, second generation, or divorced it could be plenty of reasons.
@@cellus523 second Gen? U mean mixed?

This is my fav game. I've replayed it so much and I'm always hopeful and ready for a next game!! Stefano was such a great antagonist I wished he was there a longer while
Stefano was much weaker than Ruvik though. He really lacked the backstory
@@playniohgames8635 I never said he was stronger, and of course he lacked it. He was there only for a third of the game where ruvik was the main star.

There is also a seen where the MC walks away with his daughter and then Kidman looks at her palm. What was that scene ?
Her palm has the mark of Mobius on it. A scar. This game leaves a fair bit open, which is why a third game is needed
You know, I really do hope they make a third Evil Within game, I'm curious to see where it will go next.
I agree

You didn't even talk about the ending scene after the credits roll. When Sebastion and Lilly ride off after saying goodbye to Kidman. But it's not like it needs a breakdown lol. But shouldn't of been left out of the story.
5:08 briefly mentioned but not expanded upon
@@GamingHarryYT that was my point.
@GamingHarryYT you glossed over it but break down every other aspect. I know this one was more simplified game wise to grab a bigger audience. But I feel like this break down was no where near the one you gave the first game. But I appreciate what you do not being a hater at all. Hopefully we get a part 3 and another video from you shortly after 🤙
