  • My DIY 50% Glycolic Acid Peel Experience I woke up this morning and decided that my skin looked like total crap and needed some help before going on set. I've had the Carbon Skincare 50% Glycol Peel in my medicine cabinet for months and have used it a few times, but it's been several months and while giving myself a refresher on How-To - I figured I'd share. Definitely not looking at all pretty in this video!!! But we all go through it...
Carbon Skincare 50% Glycolic Acid Peel amzn.to/29swGOR
I don't think it gets me even close to the results I get at the dermatologist's office, but I'm also not spending nearly as much and I get to do it in the privacy of my own home. This is the only DIY glycolic peel that I have used so I don't know how well it compares with others on the market. Have you tried different ones? What do you recommend? Let us know in the comments!

Just a tip- I keep a salt shaker filled with baking soda in my medicine cabinet i use it as a handy way to store baking soda in the bathroom when I when do peels and (sometimes on a whim shake some on my toothbrush for extra whitening) but I feel the same way as you for the neutralizing solution I just shake some in my hands when I rinse the peel off and it works pretty good

Idk if youll see this comment. But I just have to tell you that I find you to be so inspiring! I'm 27 years old and although people tell me I have a long way to go I get scared of getting older because everyone acts as though it's the end and there's no stopping aging. But you give me hope! You are absolutely gorgeous! Your skin and body look so much younger than 50!!! Omg you look so good!!

Beginners should ALWAYS start with 5-8% and NEVER go above 20-25% and let them sit on 2-4 minutes only!!! Always neutralize a mix of baking soda and water if you do this at home.

I think women should know they can VERY SERIOUSLY SCAR THEIR SKIN starting out with a 50% Glycolic Acid Peel. All you have to do is google it. Beginners should always start out with 10%, and lactic acid is the gentlest, but glycolic is fine. There are countless threads of women who used too high of a percentage to start with, and they are frantically posting about pink raw skin burns, or oozing cracked skin where the pigment is completely gone, and they are scarred, some taking two years or never recovering their former pigment. I used a 10% lactic acid from Ebay (Beverly Hills M.D, and they say don't start higher than 10%), following their directions, except not using the cotton pad (same as you), and I couldn't get it off fast enough by two minutes. My skin was tight and red the next day. I just don't want someone to put on medical grade acid, that is un-buffered and have permanent scars.

I use a 70% all the time. Leave on for 5 min and rinse with plain temped water. I am a licensed skin care specialist. Its not that scary if you follow the directions. Dont scare people for no good reason.

    • @breezinbyyou2
      @breezinbyyou2 7 років тому +12

Don't be irresponsible. You're licensed? It should be taken away. People on UA-cam just search "Chemical Peel Burns". I'm sure someone has posted. They also shouldn't rinse with plain water, except maybe at a low level of 10 or 25% they can get away with only water. They should have a mix of half water and half baking soda to neutralize it when it starts burning. Maybe a half cup. Make sure to wear sunscreen for the next few days and try to stay out of the sun.

viclloyd1 I do 70% gycolic peels to and I buy it right from makeup artist choice snd they have great instructions that come with it. They only mention to use baking soda with the THA peels. I use water as well unless I left it on to log and it stings to much then I'll use my baking soda.

I love you Monique you are SO REAL! Yes there is no reason to pay cosmetic surgeons $300 - $2000 for simple things we can LEARN to to at home. Sure some people need to understand some of the safety aspects but if you start small and work up the skin will adjust. I am a man and posted dozens of facials on Facebook. Nobody cared at all. By the way I haven't seen any videos of you using those microdermic needle skin rollers yet. Would love to see what you think of those. I have a great toner I get on Amazon, I love and just add one bottle of 30% glycolic to it and it works great. I have 12.5 % TCA also but I don't use that often because it does require neutralizing. I found you can buy medical microdermabrasion crystals on Amazon also and get just as good results using them as a scrub with a puff pad as the machine at the cosmetic surgeon. When using peels, I try not to go all the way to the frosting stage with acids and use things like pure coconut oil as part of my moisturizing. Great for you to admit you were a smoker and quit. My dogs died last year and I started back. Trying to quit again. Smoking and damaging my face and body won't bring my babies back. Even though I am a man, I love watching your makeup videos too just for your character. You are so real and entertaining.

Every doctor would say to neutralize after glycolic or will keep burning deep inside for at least 24 hours. You probably don't feel nothing on the surface of your skin, but inside it burning your cells. That's serious. Trust.

Please. The older roles in movies is what makes the movie. For example, I watched Black Swan last week and Barbara Hersey's role is what made the movie a success. She brought the sinister and creepy, not the black swan part. The younger roles are always the same in each movie but each older role has a uniqueness to it. This applies to the men also. Go ahead a rock your inner grandma.

Thank you for being so real and direct! Today is my first time using 50% - peel. You just made me feel 100% secure. I did the test.. on my forearm did not feel or see anything.. so I went ahead and did another test under my chin and went ahead and did my neck. Felt normal stinging. Have no redness. My directions imply wait 48 hours before using on the face. After watching your tutorial.. I am going to go ahead and do it in 24 hours. I too, some times go around the rules. I think as long as I am not experiencing crazed stinging or bleeding that I should be ok doing it 24 hours earlier. Monique I also have purchased the 70%. - have you ever done more than the 50%?? Thank you so much for all the info!! You are Beautiful!! Bye 4 now! .

I missed this video somehow, so I watched it today! I've been using The Ordinarys 10% Lactic Acid + HA 2% for a while now, but I wanted to try something stronger. I ordered The Ordinary's AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution from Beautylish several months ago, to be delivered to an American post office box in Buffalo, a fifty minutes' drive from me. It is not even able to be sold here in Canada, because its strength is considered to be, purely, professional grade only. Their peel is to be applied topically (I use a cheap elf make up brush that I've designate for this purpose), and washed off the face with water within 5-10 minutes. I was very nervous the first time I tried it, and it did sting a little bit, but my skin immediately looked better! I use it weekly now, and I'm about to order it again, I like the results of vibrant looking, brightened, and extremely soft skin so much! You might now want to try it, Monique! No muss, no fuss (no pre or post prep with this one), and it's super affordable as well ( $7.20 U.S.)! Canadian love, and hugs, missie, Sherrey💖

You might like Ren's calming mask instead of a peel. I got some as a sample from Sephora, I'm sure they'll give you freebies in store if they have them! They also usually have Dr. Brandt's peel which comes in a 2 step, also comes in minis. They're like little alcohol wipes and again, they usually have samples. But since you mentioned sensitive red skin, the Ren stuff might be more up your alley!
Also, OMG OMG OMG, get a fan to dry stuff faster! The small hand fans are great for drying things, especially makeups!

Thank you for reducing the angst re: a facial peel. I'll try it!
What about hair removal products for the face? Any recommendations?

Congratulations on the film part! I'm sorry it wasn't longer with better pay...next time! You have reminded me of the glycolic peel I bought about the same time you did. It's still sitting in my drawer because I've been too nervous to use it. I watched some videos and the frosting and peeling that a lot of people experienced have not helped...some say to make sure you aren't planning to do anything for a week or more. ack! Maybe I'll dig it out one of these days soon. :)

LOL! Maybe I will look for a lower glycolic concentration :)

It took 2 months at 25 percent daily in pads and now my face is red and a couple of sores. So a break. Going up to 50 percent with breaks and a neutralizer. A tiny bit of difference though today I look like a lobster for the first time. I did them with the shower running so I could jump in after time was up. Never had any flaking or peeling at 25 percent. I'm lazy too. Do them and hop into the shower. Get it all done at once. No neutraluzer but bought for convienve if 50 percent is real strong. 2 months of daily use of pads is a lot but followed instructions. 1 to 3 times a day. Same chemical and cheap.

Does your skin peel a few days after you do this peel? Mine does..but you didnt mention it so Im wondering if it's just something specific to me. BTW I dont do the neutralizer either.I just hop in the shower and rinse it off. No harm , no foul. I used 70% glycolic acid on the backs of my hands and the age spots are now gone. Love that stuff!!!! I get my glycolics online from Sharon Marie Skin Care. Very afforable and a wide selection of items. She will help you with selections if you need it. I use 30 % on my body once every 2 weeks.

Aloha Monique! Do you know what the pH is of this product. Makes a huge difference in the quality of the peel. Thanks for the demo. :)))) You might like to try the TCA peels by Platinum. Excellent!!!! It neutralizes itself and done in layers. I love this product. Have fun in your new Gr'ma part. BTW...I'm a grma and love it!!!!
