10:20 Chocolate Chip Trip
Is this your job, to go around YT vids and timestamp songs? I want in on that job.
Maynards voice on culling voices is just beautiful.
Agreed. For that reason my two favourite songs are this and the title track because his voice is so mesmerizing
culling voices is low key one of my favorite tool songs
Quite honestly one of the best songs i have ever heard. I can name a top list for me imcluding the grudge, the patient, pushit, wings p2, jimmy, prison sex, reflection. Someday, after time passes, i could see culling voices, 7empest, and pneuma making my list
SAME!
Culling voices was a huge surprise for me. My first listen of the entire album, I'll admit the beginning made me a little impatient. I just wanted to rock out. But when that second part kicks in, holy crap it nearly split me in two. As I type this you are in the beginning Jim... I cant wait to see you react to that part. It's now one of my favorite all time Tool songs. Each time I listen I like it more and more... this album is a fricken masterpiece.
"the moment you think you have a handle on the song, it (pause look) fucks you up" - PRICELESS. I blurted a huge YES !
It sticks with you. Adams layering in the slower part is just beautiful. It puts you in a different world. It's hauntingly beautiful
Every single one of the band members shines on this album. Dare I say their best work yet
@@marcusbrown87 it's hard to argue against that.
@@camillebrenes And yet some Tool "fans" are desperately trying to make us believe that this album sucks... Go figure.
Danny did CCT in one take. Wrap your mind around that one 🤯
It's slightly different each time, but he plays it live. So it's well practiced.
Rosetta Stoned is also one take. I think.. :P It's not recorded to a metronome so editing pieces together wouldn't sound great ^^
Correct me if im wrong :))
Is this true? is there a source?
Tyler Davis it was reported in LoudWire and Kerrang! articles about the record
Tyler Davis “Danny is so on top of his craft, in fact, that on Fear Inoculum’s instrumental track “Chocolate Chip Trip”, he nailed his fast, complicated part in one take while everyone else was out at lunch” Source Kerrang! magazine
Culling voices is just such a hauntingly beautiful song. Peaceful and serene at the beginning with a looming darkness behind it. It's perfect!
Oh Culling Voices, one of the masterpieces of this album. I don't know what song is more emotional, this or Descending, two incredible songs. This album is something unbelievable. I only knew Schism before i listening to this album, and now, well, i'm a worshiper of TOOL!!!
Chocolate Chip Trip is so funny and trippy. And danny knocks it out of the park too. The man is 58 for gods sake.
58 ain't what it used to be. As I get older and stay active I realize that truth more and more each day. I'm 48 and breaking PR's on my bike courses that I did in my 20's. Plenty to look forward too in older age if you stay active and positive.
Drums and Depends 👍
The man is 58 for Danny's* sake
In human years
Culling voices is fast becoming my favorite track of this opus. Haunting, eerie and ultimately releasing, it is perfect. These guys are once in a lifetime musicians, often imitated never duplicated.
The first half of Culling Voices could easily be something from an APC album, the 2nd half is simply classic Tool, you combine the two halves and you really have something special.
8=====D ()
Iain Hampson That is exactly what I thought when I first heard the song. Straight out of APC, then finished with Tool. Not a bad thing at all. I loved the change in style.
Gtfo
The best thing about this album is the fact that these guys especially Danny talk about how they have so much material and that he wants to get back to the studio already and record that he feels excited about getting out as much as he can.
They were working on 20ish song ideas when making this album. I hope we won't have to wait another 13 more years for the next album.
The production/mix on Culling Voices is amazing. Maynard's vocals sounds amazing.
4:35 "...sounds like a ride cymbal, but.. a little bit synthesised. ...why am I even talking about that, there's so much other stuff to concentrate on." - Nah, I really appreciate any little thoughts you have on the songs, musically or otherwise. I never picked up on that, so now that's just another little piece of the whole sound that I'll hear when I listen to it :D
i know i am not the only one, culling voices is fricking amazing and unique and yeah the ending...
I love watching your reactions to the soundscapes Tool presents the listeners. I can tell you're in awe of them, as am I.
I smiled ear to ear when you said CCT sounded like Aphex Twin haha definitely right along that style of music!
Danny Carey even mentioned in an interview, that he loves Aphex Twin, called them their 'Heroes'.
@@SuperLittleSpeedy I have yet to see that interview apparently! I'll have to find it 👍🏼
@@94clutz It's very old, but Here: ua-cam.com/video/kkgQjlOh3pA/v-deo.html
@@SuperLittleSpeedy much appreciated!
WheI heard that repeating electro, I knew, from all the shows, that we were going to be treated to a Danny solo.
Culling Voices is really growing on me. It was originally my least favorite. But might end up being the best. It takes numerous listens on these things.
Tempest was my least fave but it grew on me like over time. Each song gets better the more you listen. Love it.
I can’t get over this song, man it does efff you up Jim. My mind is blown
Really love your channel! You're so genuine and seem to give every song a chance (Rosetta Stoned for instance, that's a special one 😂)
+ you actually give a shit about what you hear and seem to know what you're talking about, that's what really separates you from other reaction channels who just screams and plays of their fake hype.
You're so cool my dude, keep rocking! 🤘🤘
I went on a long car ride listening to this album. Such a great time
Same. Needed to be alone
Best way to listen to all their albums, but I could only imagine what people are thinking when they drive past me probably think I'm having an emotional breakdown
My parents left for a camping trip and I left the CD near their things to take with them on their way out. Doggone it, they forgot to take it! I was disappointed that I missed an opportunity to show someone else this masterpiece.
omg danny on chocolate chip trip.... just.... wow....
Noel Ebbert apparently he banged that out in one take while the others were out at lunch!!
I feel like Chocolate Chip Trip is proof that Danny Carey is actually an advanced alien species.
Ian Fitzpatrick i find that really hard to believe. If he said that I would assume he was joking
Jethro Tool “Danny is so on top of his craft, in fact, that on Fear Inoculum’s instrumental track “Chocolate Chip Trip”, he nailed his fast, complicated part in one take while everyone else was out at lunch” Source Kerrang! magazine
Jethro Tool not saying you have to believe it, that’s totally up to you. but I’m not making it up that it’s documented.
Chocolate Chip Trip is Danny Carey’s very firm nod and salute to Billy Cobham’s Spectrum album. If you listen to it/know it you’ll know what I mean. Shit hot drumming from both parties.
Chocolate Chip Trip really had me wigging out first time I heard it and all I could do was smile say wtf and watch my head explode from above myself to the freakishly free beat!
i totally get what you mean with the cymbal sounds at 5:00 and before. This Album is like a Danny Carey masterpiece
tsk..tsk...tsk...tsk - you can hear it behind the music as a ride cymbal but when exposed, suddenly becomes this electronic blip! Fun :)
@@JimNewsteadIt almost sounds like it's a ride cymbal that was sampled and has some kind of effect on it
That sound can be heard in small doses throughout Right in Two
HELL YES! Still here and still loving this ride, I've heard the album now a few times through but...knowing this is your first time hearing all of this, minus the title track, it just...brings me right back there with you.
Bricktowne Media that’s the beauty of genuine reactions like these.
@@WitzyZed 100%
"just when you think you got a handle on a song...it fucks you up" LOL lol perfection!!!!
Culling Voices crept into my brain and invaded silently. I was doing some cleaning yesterday and didn't even realize I was humming its melodies.
Hah that’s happened to me a few times as well while doing something. All of a sudden it just slips into my brain...and I love it
that cup reminds me of Lateralus
Culling Voices is my Sh!t.
Maynard..don't you dare..don't you dare..don't you dare point that at..
Using his trademark vocal whisper tricks from the breakdown of The Package on Thirteenth Step. Very propulsive and snake like.
Everyone likes a show off, when it's DANNY CAREY!!
Those drums... speachless
Jim, you're awesome!
"Does not compute" Exactly! :D
Best song from this amazing album - and one of their all-time greats.
I love Danny's vocals in chocolate chip trip, I mean come on, we know he's not of this world
So beautifull ,maynards voice
Danny played B'Boom(at the concert in 2014 in Portland) which i believe was an early version of Chocolate Chip Trip, I love the sound of it.
TONS of Crimson influence here and on many of their LPs
Culling Voices is a mix of Lateralus and 10,000 days .. song is really growing on me
Love the gong.
the beginning reminds me of the red woman in game of thrones.....nice and eerie sound
Thank you for the Aphex Twin reference! That was my first thought listening to CCP.
I’ll know my hearing has gone to shit when I can no longer hear that high frequency beep in the CCT synth loop :)
I waited 10 minutes to hear him say chocolate chip trip in his silky accented voice
Chocolate Chip Trip = Reminds me of King Crimson.
I saw Chocolate Chip Trip in concert, right after intermission. I almost couldn't stand by the time it was done.
The beginning of this so reminds me of Jethro Tull. Passion play listen do it it's a really good.
Culling Voices is the modern day version of Parabol/Parabola. Chocolate Chip Trip is an ode to Billy Cobham on his solo album, Spectrum.
Jim said fucks
“Does not compute” LMAO
came for the tool .. stayed for the eyebrows. Thanks, Jim.
7:34 Yep
The main chorus line "psychopathyyyy... misleading meee over aand oooveerr...", and "don't you dare point that aat meee", that has some APC qualities to it, but in an unexpectedly good way.
The vocal style strongly reminds me of APC on Culling
For some reason I feel like there's some Tori Amos in this as well. Or have I just melted?
@@atavisticempire3473 Maynard's a big fan of Tori, they even performed live together, so that's entirely possible.
Jim mate, did ‘choccy trip’ make your mind melt a wee bit?
CCT - Einstürzende Neubauten, Tangerine Dream, Philip Glass... a long tradition of experimental music.
DANNY FUCKING CAREY.
Umm is that a third eye mug....?
Am I the only one that thinks that coffee cup looks kind of like the alex grey artwork from Lateralus?
I took until the 3 rd video to notice, or am I just seeing shit
🎧😜
Danny Carey is from outer space...
The drums on Chocolate chip trip. Holy shit!! Danny, you aren’t human are you? Best 🥁 EVER!!!
Chocolate chip trip live

I really liked culling voices but, men, that song was made for a SCREAM when It explotes and yall know that🤣. Anyway, the song is greaaaat and makes you wanna jump. Cant wait to listen it live.
It's almost like "Mallard" pauses on those parts without the scream on purpose.
@@sicboi80 He did purposefully take a step back on this album to "let the instruments breathe." He said that in an interview.
I was waiting for that too!
361th - I broke the circle... About the song: It's awesome how a strong song can be evolved seemingly from just tiny particles. You don't need to be loud to be heavy.
Complete acid trip! Wish it was 35yrs ago. Just saying. Brilliant so far.......
Fuckin' great album but not for ''casual'' listeners. Culling Voices has that A Perfect Circle/Katatonia vibe but in tool's way.
CC Trip is so sick. But Merkaba from Salival is still the best and outstanding tool's work, I wish they included some crazy guitar effects in CC Trip.

"Does not compute" lol..
Gong = wtf smile

777th like with 7 dislikes. I feel lucky today.
Does not compute! haha
Jim please react to Circa Survive, you're the only reactor that will appreciate them. Toolesque in approach but sonically post-hardcore (progressive/experimental). Lustrations, Only the Sun, Schema, or Glass Arrows to start (so many to choose from). Copy Pasting to all your vids until you do :)
Chase Vonnegut How is living together not on here as a recommendation ? Smh
@@danwillson4080 literally any song past and present could be on the list! I thought some of the later stuff would be easier to get into first. But yes Living Together is another great track.
Sorry but this album is repetitive in a bad way. Any other album tool did if there was a repetitive section in it it felt necessary and it felt like it was building and then delivered BIG TIME.
Fear innoculum doesn't hold a candle to their previous works what so ever, and people acting like it's any where near as good as the last few albums feel disingenuous like they are afraid to admit that it's just not as good.
Sure it's not a bad album.
But it's not as good as people seem to say it is out of respect that they have for Tool.
I love and respect Tool, but I'm keeping it real. This album is not as good.
I'm convinced Tool is Metallica and Pink Floyd's baby...
Metallica is not worthy
Maybe Yes and King Crimson?
Metallica? Ew.
Tbh, CCT should've been a bonus track. Ruins the momentum of the album and I'd much rather add another five minutes of Culling Voices magic.
