This is a truly superb instructional video for double knitting. She gives thorough and detailed demonstrations for both English and Continental styles, with careful detail showing exactly how to do some of the things that can be most confusing when you are first learning, like how to keep your two different colors of yarn strands positioned correctly as you knit then purl, and also how to manipulate the strands when you are at color change points in the pattern. The video is high quality and easy to see in detail. It's the best learning video and verbal description I have found for learning to double knit! Thanks!
Finally a video with Continental style! Please if you could show how to do a double sided herringbone or double sided cable in continental that would be so helpful
I have been struggling with double knitting, your video is the very best I have come across!!! ThankYou so much, I have a much better understanding of how to double knit!🇨🇦
it does seem to matter how those yarns are placed when bringing forward or back, or there might be a crossed over bit in the wrong color , and you made sense of how to avoid this, the first time any UA-cam has done this for me!
@@thechillydog i never purl. I knit right handed and left handed because of joint problems but this makes me think that I want to do double knitting and practice purls with a tiny sample or a scarf.
Do you have any tips for even tension doing this? I can't for the life of me get the same tension on my purls even though I do it the same way you are, they are always loose! Thanks
But how do you start it?😦 I'm a crocheter trying to get more into knitting and I find it very hard to wrap my head around (the knitting needles 😂 badumtsss) it.
I usually do a two color chained cast on to start my double knitting, ua-cam.com/video/QAwP2MJKlpw/v-deo.html, and you may like this method because it uses a crochet hook.
Does any one in comments want to speak on their experience with the textured knitting needles? I am curious as to whether others liked or dislike these and whether you found them easier to use.
For me, they made things more difficult when I was a tighter knitter. Learning continental really helped my tension. I can only speak for the Addi’s, I did notice that my hands would be less fatigued using the squared’s. I began showing symptoms of carpal tunnel while knitting English so I tried them in an attempt that the ergonomics would help. I like them and notice a difference. As for the flexiflips squared, they are longer than the regular so you have a little more to hold onto. 😊
@@Euterpe65 Keeping up with needles of different sizes and buying them is a pain and expensive. I actually carve my own knitting needles and I discover that perfectly round in diameter is not needed or helpful.
I don't know of a way to get a colorwork design the same (not the reverse image) on both sides. However, you can create solid colored double knit fabric by using 2 strands of the same color yarn.
I can't think of a reason why it wouldn't be possible to double knit Portuguese style. However, I have only experimented with it a little. Since you don't use your hands to manage/tension your yarn, I found it to be a little fussy and difficult to manipulate. With practice it would probably be easier.
Good question, but I don't know the answer. I'm only familiar with the term jacquard as it applies to weaving, but I can certainly see the similarities.
Basically, jacquard knitting is single faced with floaters on the back, I think we could call it double faced jacquard if it also has jacquard motif. But double knitting just is a technique that doesn’t necessarily involves a pattern, it can be solid colors, 1 on each side.

A fabulous video! Twisting the stitches is similar to fair isle knitting. Thank you for an EXCELLENT tutorial. 😊❤

What a great video!!! I've been too scared to even attempt this but this makes me want to give it a try!!! Thanks so much!!!!
Thank you so much! I am way less intimidated by double knitting now.
Omg this is the best video on this I have seen! I thank you from the bottom of my heart❤
Thank you very much for this tutorial! My friend asked me to knit pot holders and I've never used double knitting before. This will help me a lot.
You are an excellent teacher!
Thank you for this excellent demonstration.
Thank you for a very clear demo.🎉
Best explanation ever! No idea what to make with the technique … but love the prices n look!

this is a great video! im thinking of making a film reel double knit scarf for my school project on vintage film and this was so helpful
This makes me want to try it... You've taken the hesitancy out of me by explaining it! Thank you!
Very good instructions.
Thanks!
Impressive handling of both Technics 👏
OMG, you make it look so easy. I'll be giving it a try 🙂
You can do it! Double knitting is not the fastest technique, but it's really just k1, p1.

I would like to see you do a sweater (jumper) using this double knitting. I'm new to knitting
Wonderful video. Thank you.
I love it!!💖💖💖
It takes a little practice, but it's so pretty!
Great tutorial! You do make it look easy and doable! Thank you.
It takes a little practice managing both yarns, and it's not a speedy process, but double knitting is more doable than most knitters expect.
Thank you❣️ This helped a lot.
Thank you so much! That is really very helpful
Wow I have never tried this, but may do now thanks x
Can you do a swatch from the very beginning please?
Do you have a pattern for the checkerboard? I would like to make a scarf for my son. I love how it is double sided. ❤️
I love your design, thank you for sharing ❤
Great tutorial
Very good!
Obrigada!por ensinar.BENÇÃOS DEUS A VOCÊ.
I want to learn how to knit in single febric no long thread on back side
Really helpful, thanks!
Are the 2 layers joined by the way you are holding and working the 2 colors?
Thank you 😇😊

Good job! 😊
Great tutorial. Thank you ! Your needles are so pretty. What brand are they? 🧶
I'm using the skacel by addi Rocket2 [Squared] needles in this tutorial.

I love mine for sock knitting.
Is there a way to do this with the colours being the same on both sides?

OH my, it helps but still.. wow. But thank you!!
What are those knitting needles? I've been looking for needles like those!
They are the skacel by addi Rocket2 [Squared] needles.
Thanks for asking this question!
Changing colors? Hiding ends?
Can I get the written pattern?
You can find the pattern for the Burst Into Bloom Scarf on my website at, shop.thechillydog.com/products/burst-into-bloom-scarf-knitting-pattern-pdf.
Can this be done using the Portuguese method of knitting?

Isn't this also called jacquard?
