Reasons for loving Horst:
0:13 my name is luening
8:23 quaffable mua-ho
10:16 meruaghah
So many reasons but those are good
What I really like about this channel is that you are not destroying the whiskey for being a mass product! You are not just saying what it CANT do, buit what it CAN do! Thank you for that!
This dude is living the dream. I want his job!
Get in line...
He Doesn't have a Liver...! :)
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Not true
Nope hes living his drams ;)
the best thing about being Scottish, is all the best whiskies right on my doorstep.
Irish Whiskey is better
@@alexhpeterson Irish accent is better. But whisky, nope.
@@alexhpeterson 🙄
You live above a bargain booze then ?? 😂
@@alexhpeterson as every Irishman will insist on no matter what ☺
Literally just now tried my first glass of glen 12. And I gotta say I kinda fell in love. Usually my woodford bourbon is my go to drink but I think I'll set that aside and cherish this scotch
You can always tell when Mr. Luening really enjoys the Scotch, because he finishes it! If he places the glass back on the cask with whisky remaining then I'm suspicious of it. :)
Ryan Barnhart he mentioned in a video that he reviews so much whisky that he must be careful not to create dependency or get alcohol poisoning. I believe his favorite drink is red wine and he drinks a considerable amount of that. Whisky review is his job
😂😂😂😂. Noted ima keep an eye on that.
@@2inchfromtheground no he is a full whisky guy
@@2inchfromtheground A small dram might not be too harmfull unless he records 20-30 vids a day
"If you're in a bar and there's several blends and nothing else go for the Glenfiddich"
LoL what faint praise!
One of the best price performance whiskey I have ever had
Glenfiddich 12 is Excellent
Easy Sippin' Love it Horst, keep the reviews coming!
I was just waiting for this guy to start talking about the tesseract
ahahaha me too he's a legend this guy
Been drinking this for awhile it caught me by surprise, its such a good whiskey for a 12 years!
Bought my first bottle today and after watching this video im looking forward to tasting it
A very nice video. I'm trying the Glenfiddich 12 for the first time. I'm a McCallan 12 yr consumer.
I enjoyed the mellowness of the Glenfiddich 12. Thanks for the videos..👍
you're the best man, your voice and the sound you make with your mouth when you drink, produce asmr in my brain! i'm in heaven. Thanks keep on!
my favorite person to have a drink with hands down. Horst Leuning
Bought my first bottle. Very light, apple, oak, smooth finish. Very nice! CHEERS
And I drank the whole bottle because it's definitely delicious but waking up on the garage floor and deficating myself makes an unpleasant experience
Nice
U won't be the only 1
Same story here, woke up on the bathroom floor after a bottle but had puked all over myself.
Michael K Better to have shit ones own underpants than have someone else shit them for you.
👏👏👏
It's so friendly..........is the best way to describe this delightful whisky 🖒
Ah Glenfiddich 12, one of my favourites. Nice review as always Horst. I'm so jealous that you got to try the 40 year old XD
but if the whiskey is good you know he can't help himself that sounds like a I'm not going to say excuse but a reasoning in same with the whiskey Vault if they truly enjoy it you'll notice of glass is gone not so much a save it for later it doesn't take Scooby-Doo to solve that mystery if it's good they'll drink it no matter how much whiskey do they have to drink in a day.
The 12 will always be my go to bottle. Quality for cost can’t be beat.
Nice! Will be picking up a bottle today to give it a try.
Agreed my friend.
@@Daniel-ld7xs and what did you think ?
Excellent review Horst. It is a good whisky at a good price. If you want better you have to pay more. Simple.
thank you.. love this review
I just got this 12 years old so i decide to check it for a review hehe.. cant wait to try it.
I've just picked up a bottle out of the blue. Sounds like I'm in for a treat. 😊
I love its smell and taste
he is so gentle
Definitely a nice easy sipper. Lacks the depth and complexity of many others, but the Glenfiddich 12 is nice. I think it's best as the first in a flight, with Highland Park 12 and the beauties from Islay following.
I like the way you think! for me it can be Glenfiddich 12 or Monkey Shoulder/Glenmorangie 10, followed by Highland Park 12 (great scotch) & then Talisker 10 --> Caol Ila 12 --> Lagavulin 16.
the gift packing is really nice
Yes indeed
Very nice video.
It relaxes me.
Glenfiddich 12 is a crowd pleaser for sure.
Glenfiddich 12 is one of the whiskey's on my try list.
Amazing!
Lovely whisky
He makes it look so delicious.
Bought a bottle of this and decided to sip some as I compare notes with the video. I tend to enjoy the smokey ones but seriously, that apple/pear smell and taste keeps me pouring more, all ready on the third, 'dangerously sipping' endeed.
Same here
Dangerous indeed lol
Good conclusion.
Light whisky, tasty, drinker friendly, affordable, in my humble opinion, one shows knowledge when moving from (and leave behind for good) blends to SM.
i don t mind for a green label though..i won t complain
This is my favorite bottle. 12 years
nice submariner.. good scotch, good timepiece
I found this one finished strongly of pears/apples. First time with such a bright fruity finish on a scotch
Love the smell of this malt but I find it a bit harsh on the back end of the taste.
Sipping my dram if this Whisky and it very good and it certainly could be dangerous if you like it too much. Very flavorful and a nice alcohol feel ( not a burn).finish. Very exact review of your tasting. 😎
I'm more of an IPA, Stout guy myself but I bought my first bottle of whiskey today and it was this brand. I hope I like it, never really been a big fan of whiskey or any liquor for that matter but I've always wanted to get into it. Thanks for the upload.
How was it?
Very good all things considered.
In the nose pear and banana. In the palate fresh pear and malt.
25£ in Asda is a really bargain.
I'll take a bottle of Glenfiddich 12 over a bottle of Glenlivet 12 any day. Absolutely love Glenfiddich.
I've been given a bottle that has not been opened how old is it as it still says pure malt 43 % glenfiddich but no age on the label they kept it unopened for years it tastes so smooth, but after drinking I feel so depressed and anxious for days , puts me off drinking
This guy rocks!
I have the same shirt as this guy!
Excellent sipping whiskey for the price.
I enjoy this but I can often pick up the 15 year for only a few pounds more, and I prefer that
Amazing video... i liked the way you presented the video. whats the price of the pack..
8:24 lmao when she licks the tip, great video Horst, love this whisky
I get the oak and apple/pear...but I am also getting a sort of chocolate vibe from bottles that have been opened a while... could that be a combo of the vanilla and caramel playing a trick on me?
I'm drinking a dram now and reading your chocolate comment I got it straight away lol.
I love this in Glenlivet 12 and Glenlivet Founder's Reserve. I have not tried my Bucchans 12 yet though. The only problem is a bottle doesn't last me more than a couple days cuz I get on a kick with it!
Which one is better Glenlivet 12 or Glenfiddich 12 , kindly reply
@@RC-pw4hy glenfiddich
Unpacking vid!!!
That’s a really cool gift box, how much was that?
Thanks for this review. I sampled the Glenfiddich 12 yo along with you, and here's what I noticed. My initial smell and taste neat, all was well, the first small sip seemed so mild that I figured I would continue sipping this 35 ml Dram neat, but then I was getting some notes of sour along with the initial taste noted that you mention. I usually add at least a teaspoon of water to a Single Malt Dram... I decided to look for extra floral that might come from adding water... I added a teaspoon of water and that's the main reason why I am writing this note. My dram of Glenfiddich 12 then became sweet... no bitterness, with extra and all pleasant aromas and tastes emerging.
I felt my Dram went from something I could get through without too much unpleasant taste - converted to an all nice, pleasant, sweet, floral, and very easy to drink.
I've heard all the pros and cons of adding water. If this much flavor improvement is hidden and waiting for a small addition of water... folks should hear this.
Horst, you are the master taster, and I trust whatever you recommend. I'm not questioning your approach. You're great! and your reviews are Great!
Thanks
What about ice? is the result same as adding water?
Yes and no. The water that comes from some melting of the ice will cause that change in Scotch, the release of sweeter tastes, but here's the problem with adding ice:
As the whisky cools down the flavors all seem to go down in strength. Cold or chilled, all whisky has less than half the flavor.
I have a really unusual suggestion for you. Take an inexpensive blend, like Dewars and add a small pour to a glass, followed by an equal amount of water, and then add ice. This makes a very decent drink when you are pouring from an inexpensive bottle of blended scotch. For comparison (and to learn) take a small pour of scotch in a wine glass or special whisky glass (a Glencairn) and add only one teaspoon of water, then swirl the whisky in the glass, take in the smell of the whisky, and take a very tiny sip. Continue to sip, but take in very little at a time. This small amount keeps you from getting the experience of alcohol burn.
Then compare my above two examples. Which do you enjoy more? My very first taste of scotch (an inexpensive bottle of Dewars) was with highly experienced Scotch drinkers and we all enjoyed that mix of Dewars, water, and ice. That mix, with water, on ice goes down really easy while also giving you a gentle experience.
That was a good first introduction. Later I started tasting a Single-Malt scotch with only a teaspoon of water added and that is how you get the most out of a good quality scotch.
Cheers!
Thanks man, I'll definitely give that a try when I get my hands on some Dewars. Cheers!
if you came to a pub in the highlands and asked for water in your single malt you would be removed from the premises
@@HA_GGiS Har... well what if I have a bottle of water with me and I take a swig...? No one will notice me putting a teaspoon of water into my glencairne of Scotch via what looks like a sip... har.
I dont even drink and im keep getting these whiskey tasting video suggestions, maybe its the surname idk.anyway watched the video and your living your dream by the look of it so good luck with your channel.
What glass is used here pleased?
I enjoyed it... I must be one of the masses...moo
Great with a butter and sultana scone ;)
Had this many times and never got an apple taste from it TBH. It tastes of pears not apple IMO. When you add ice the pear flavor really pops for some reason.
I really do be smelling apple and vanilla though
The first scotch that I like! Extremely smooth!
Very nice and smooth indeed!
Wine Crimes Food and Time the only whiskey I’ve had is jack, pleas tell me they all aren’t like that.
@@ofc.vaughan2871 I actually like Scotland Ireland's whiskey better than Jack.
Wine Crimes Food and Time what would u say is the softest smoothest low burn sipping whisky
EXACTLY the same for me! Until i tried this dram, i thought i hated scotch.. how ignorant..
hi does anyone know how to check my glenfiddich bottle to know when it was bottled or its expiration date please?
how does it compare to Cardhu?
The best Glenfiddich is Distillery Edition. Non chill filtered no colour added. Far better than 18yo
When you buy this how do you know what year it was created? Is there a way to identify this? 12 year but 12 year from when?
I tasted along with you in the video and copied your nosing and drinking pattern.
I have to say that we didn't get the exact same experience. I had an overwhelming green, sour apple flavor dominating the entire profile, mixed with a malty/barley after taste. Kinda bitter at the end, when you said 'no bitterness" I had a lot of bitter in my mouth.
I'm just starting out, so maybe my palette will develop more in the future.
A great, easy, slow sipping whiskey indeed.
6/10.
Seems rather amusing that a whisky often seen as so 'entry level' and humble in the world of whisky suddenly stands out a little more with a 12 year old age statement, in an ever increasing market of non age statement stuff which seems to be hitting store shelves these days.
Enjoying your video with a glass of 12 Year old on the rocks in my hand 🥃
APPLES and PEARS and Vannila notes...
How similar is this to Glenlivet 12? For a cheap scotch single malt that is my go to. I've branched out and tried Talisker 10, macallan 12, Laphroaig 10 since having Glenlivet as my first single malt
This is the same scotch from the family guy episode Brian and Stewie
Fvrt🔥😍😍😍😍
sir, what type of glass it is? I wish to buy one for myself..
Yogendran K P whiskey snifter
The store might also have it listed as a "glencairn glass"
I'm an 18 yr old wanting to start malt I've been reading up on it alot but I still know very very little, anyone got any suggestions? ( I'm from Scotland where the legal drinking age is 18, so it's legal for me to ask and you to suggest)
Well I've been drinking Scotch Whisky for about thirty years and love the stuff. I've tasted malts from every distillery and dozens of blends. What do you want suggestions on? Malts to start with? Reading materials? Distilleries to visit? Distilling process? Do you want to become a master blender? What is your goal young lad?
+cato cato I want suggestions on malt whiskies to try for a beginner
+jackson li I was watching a UA-camr called ralfy and he suggested old pultney
+cato cato thank you so much for all of the information!
Id go to a pub and try as much reasonably priced whisky as you can. If you like something then buy a bottle. Repeat until you have a nice little collection.
Looking for an affordable whiskey with a kick and a burn in it any recommendations?
Talisker 10
This guy never says anything bad about anything. lol it's all good!!!
richieb74 Watch his Jack Daniels No. 7 review lol.
Oh yes he does. Keep watching.
Yes he he does. You need to watch more❤

So who is this Horst Luening guy? Is he Scottish? Or German? Help me out please.
German! Horst is the best! A true whiskey expert! Luening-Horst Luening!
starts of with a nice sweet vanilla/butter malt taste with a bit of spice but going down was a somewhat harsh medicinal burn
i went into whisky and tried glenfiddich for the first time yesterday. imo, it taste too bland and too alcoholic. there was a bit spiciness and sweetness but that is it. do you guys have any recommendation on which whisky i should try instead? or should i just stop trying whisky?
oh and fyi, i hate the alcoholic smell that comes with it
Try Tomatin Legacy/Dualchas..... A bit more maybe to what you might like-------or you may end up hating it........
You should just have tea and crumpets
Get some Chardonnay.
Finished in Carribean rum casks.............rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
New to the scotch world, why are the bottles as big as beer bottles.
Sweet?
I usually drink straight but this one is better with ice
VERY NICE WITH A CIGAR
What kind of cigar are you smoking with it?
I like how he says
“This is a really nice and friendly bottle..
If you are in a bar and there is *nothing else* to choose.. Then yeah go for Glenfiddich 12”
My man.. you are a savage.. hahaha
No, he said, Glenfiddich, blends, and nothing else, then go for the Glenfiddich.
And even he would tell you he means certain kinds of blends, not all blends, he just means the typical cheap blends you see in a bar.
He is correct!
One of my favorite "cheaper" Scotch whiskeys :-)
Jared Green * whisky
This or aberlour 12?
This. Aberlour 12 is Rough however it's good for a cheap learning experience of what is sherry influence in whisky.
Ok. I’m trying for the first time. It’s glennfoddich or Johnny Walker Macallen..
I'm surprised this is only now reviewed by you considering you reviewed the older Genfiddichs. Going backwards? lol
Dangerous indeed!
wtf i can't see the microphone is it in his mouth?
I found the whisky smell strong .Tatse bitter with no taste of sherry ,nuts or sweetness.
how can u do that and not bein alcoholic
how is a german the best scotch reviewer? but he is!
Is it just me or does it seem like he could not wait 2 pour and smell it
