I purchased a bottle for $65 at Xmas. This is my first taste of Japanese whiskey. The bottle is absolutely beautiful, it's so smooth I could barely put it down and stop drinking. One of my favorites at this point.
Thank you for the review Horst. I tried it for the first time today, and also found it to be a wonderful whisky. Easily one of the best blended whiskies I've every had.
A perfect review, I have this whisky and the smoothness is evident in every taste session. I also found the after taste to be similar to a JWB but only in the after taste. A smooth, fruity blend, with a wonderful aroma that really does justify the cost. Thankyou for this amazing review. I have spent 30 years tasting, and this is the most perfect review I have seen, thank you
In this whiskey, the packaging makes the overall product work, in my opinion. I was fairly happy with the whiskey itself, but I love that bottle. I always need to have one on my shelf.
regarding the 24 sided bottle ... this is the concept behind it. " The 24 facets of the Hibiki bottle symbolize the 24 hours of the day and 24 seasons- or "Sekki"** of the traditional Japanese calendar. The bottle includes 24 sides to allow consumers to visualize the time the whisky spends aging in the cask, the history, and 'time' itself."
I have to admit, even despite the all hype.. Hibiki 17 IS my favorite, the Harmony blend is, for me, only a substitute at this point. It is pleasurable mainly in regard to the reminiscence to Hibiki's nod to the now abandoned age statements. While Harmony is a worthy blend, it pales in comparison to the 17 and 21 in my opinion. And for me the 17 outshines the 21 for my palate. Darn that Bill Murray and whatever that movie was that initiated the demise of the availability of the Truly Great iterations of Japanese whiskey,
@@msbrownbeast Or more literally, Hibiki's age statement whiskies to the non-age statement, yet worthy, blend ... and not so much a professional comparison, but a statement of (continued) preference ... maybe sometime soon Suntory/Hibiki will revive a 12 to reintia-"state" their line
@@jhmbpc I just purchased a bottle of Hibiki Harmony. I didn't know what to expect prior to the purchase, but I just popped the bottle and I'm rather impressed. For a NAS blended, it tastes closer to a single malt than a blended whisky. Alas, I have never had the fortune to taste the Hibiki 17 but I did a back to back with the Harmony against a Chivas 18 and it was no comparison. The whisky from the Land of the Rising Sun wins.
Seriously, Horst should be doing voice overs in advertising if he isn't already. This guy has a voice that could sell the president 20 year old aluminum foil chocolate coins
I’ve had this whisky, Yamazaki, and hakushu from suntory. While this was delightful the Yamazaki 12 was my favorite. Unfortunately I can’t find it for under $200 so the $70 Hibiki is on my shelf.
Love the way Jorst's English is better than mine (I'm an English teacher) but at least my Japanese is better than his (20 years living in Japan). I know it's dull but the correct pronunciation of mi-zu-na-ra would be me-zoo (the z is pronounced z) na - as in knack, ra - as in rat. Jeez, I need a life. Love the whisky, spot-on review as always Jorst.
Only saw the review now but awaiting a bottle to be delivered. Quite expensive I guess but you get what you pay for. It can sit alongside my Gold and Blue label. I was never a whiskey drinker but I'm learning 😁

Is this one worth get hands on? I really really want and wanted to get my hand on this one for such a long time :( a friend of mine have tasted it and he truely and utterly loved it
The Hibiki NAS was only brought in because demand meant that there wasn't enough supply of aged whiskey. It is definitely inferior to the 12 and 17 yr old statements, but here in Japan it is almost impossible to find those, where as the Harmony version is quite easy to find.
Any one who have drinked this and could feel on the nose or smell marzipan? When I read the swedish discription it says that their is marzipan involved in this one
Hello Sir, I have actually visited the Distillery where Suntory Whiskey is made. It's just outside Kyoto. I have recently purchased a bottle of this Whiskey and am looking forward to drinking some this weekend. Thank you for the fantastic review. If you would like to see any pictures from the tour of Suntory, please feel free to ask me. I will gladly sent some.
I love Japanese Harmony! I enjoyed quite a bit of it while editing my latest video about Japanese whisky. Check it out if you're interested in learning about the business side of things! Cheers!
Nice! I loved Japanese whiskeys back when you could buy them for $30, now they seem a bit pricey to me (as do a lot of bourbons too!). I need to do some more tasting, but so far, I think that Eagle Rare at $30 a bottle is a better value (and not inferior whiskey) than the typical $60 that Hibiki goes for in the US.
Its a personal choice. Generally oily taste means they used some kind of citrus peel mostly orange peel. If that suits you then ok otherwise there are other options.
When they say oily it means that the whisky isn't thin or watery that it is a little more viscous. It doesn't quite pertain to the taste of literal oils.
It’s a mouthfeel....and the more “oily”, the longer the finish on the flavor...as the “oil” coats the tongue and inner mouth and takes longer to absorb or be washed away with saliva
Sometimes Costco have Hibiki here in Honolulu, sales out fast at $67.99. Costco doesn’t have it all the time, I’ve been lucky that gotten it twice & limited to one bottle
It's an absolute delight and a staple to my personal bar to have this whiskey. I would honestly drink it over MANY. Current price where I am is 85 USD and it dwarfs A LOT of past $100 scotches or bourbons in my opinion. Now, will I spend 140 or so on a bottle of Glenmorangie tale of cake? Yes, I will. Will I spend 80- 90 on a booker's? Yes, sure. But, for a non age statement blend, that the only history that it has is Suntory's history and their elegance in a bottle, I will gladly have this as my proper drink on a daily basis. I buy at least 2 or 3 bottles a month depending on my states warehouses on it. It's a beautiful whiskey. To keep. I'm sad I couldnt keep the 17 year that it has replaced or the 12 year. GOOD japanese whiskey is hard to come by, but if you do, "Suntory time" is everytime for me.
I didn't find that weird at all. The sloshing around of the whiskey in his mouth, after he drank it, like he was cleaning his teeth with mouthwash - THAT was slightly weird, but, if that's how he wants to do it, then fine.
I have tasted it in Japan, in a nice little bar not far away from Tokyo. It was pretty good. But I prefer Single Malt whiskies, like Springbank 10 years old or Highland Park 18 years old.
For some reaskn, this guy's way of talking makes me want to DRINK. He could be talking about knitting wool and i'd still want to grab me a bottle of some potent spirits.
This guy is the David Attenborough of whisky taster's, his voice just draws you in 😄 I'm away to buy a bottle now
Perfect description. He's one of those youtubers that crosses genres, I'm not a whisky connoisseur but I love watching him talk about it.
Probably the best expert 😉
his voice arouses me
I agree 💯%. He's a master
I don't really drink whiskey a lot, but watching this made me salivate.
You know the whisky is fire when our Horst has a third sip 😁👍🤟
Absolutely

was looking for this comment lol so true

I know... I couldn't stop drinking it. It's that good! 👑👌
If you can find Hakushu 12 yr, buy immediately. It's the only Japanese whisky I've liked over harmony and yamazaki 12.
Japanese whiskey is the best. Nikka from the barrel and Yamazaki 12...do yourself a favour.
@@wking8 Nikka from the barrel and Yamazaki 12 were bliss for me...indiscribable stuff, toooo good. Whats Hakushu 12 like?
@@johnblack2309 Fruitier that the Yamasaki 12. More pear and it's amazing. Less burn than the Harmony. It's just a perfect damn whisky in my opinion.

The Japanese turn whisky into an art. The bottle, the label, the whisky itself all displays discipline and skill, Awesome.
Finally a video without a music on the background. Two thumbs up!
Picked up a bottle in indiana for about $98 and im loving it. This is my favorite whiskey
Another excellent review. This whiskey a regular on my shelf.
The softness this presents is unlike anything I've tried so far. It's a pleasure.
Hibiki 21 is the best whiskey I've ever had. So far, that is.
+Thraith I agree thraith hard to find but popping up in pubs here and there.
I can get a bottle for $537 or ¥60.000 down the street.
Still the best?
2020 here-thank you for the very informative review.. Im going to buy this one now
Enjoyed your review and look forward to giving it to my son for Christmas while viewing his fresh cut tree this evening. Kippis!

i like Japanese Harmony over Master's Select which is spicier compared to the former which is creamier
