This one is extremely mild and smooth which is what I love about it. Alot of whiskey makers think it has to taste like moonshine nowadays, I don't get it.
Glenfiddich 12 is simply lovely and delicate on the nose, deliciously tart and sweet (green apple), hints of red fruits and pear on the pallette. Finish lasts with a slight sherry drying of the mouth. I have tried and bought more complex and expensive scotch, but when I'm in the mood to relax and have 2 or 3, I absolutely love the Glenfiddich.

The Glenfiddich 12 was the first single malt I've ever tried and it ignited my passion for single malts but as you mentioned, as my taste developed, I find myself drinking less and less of it. Nowadays I much prefer the 15 year old solera style. However, I think Glenfiddich is a great distillery and having had the opportunity to visit it, I can say that it offers the best tour of all the distilleries in Scotland.
I have only recently got into whisk(e)y but I have been doing the same. It helps to cleans the palate, and because whisky doesn't have the same water content of wine and beer it really dehydrates you.
After trying 50-60+ whiskies over the past year, this ranks in my top 5, probably top 3 for single malts. I dont really know what you could ask for to make it better. I have tried plenty of more expensive ones and besides maybe some of the Islay's, none have been worth more than maybe $50. I actually tried Glenfiddich 18 and it wasnt as good as the 12, although I didnt have them back-to-back.
Me and my Grandad use to have a drink of Glenfiddich most evenings when I visited after work, for the memories alone it will always be my number 1 whisky (bonus it was the first whisky I drank)
I'll have to recomment lol. I mentioned before, this one has it's place for Scotch beginners (me last year), for a "warm up dram" before moving on to something complex later on, like waking up your taste buds. Or it's great for a casual drink with friends or family when you might not necessarily be talking or analyzing whiskey because its just downright enjoyable overall.
Oh I agree. I like it just fine, but I've never been to a bar and though "oh! I HAVE to have a Glenfiddich 12!" More like I scan the menu and everything else is bad or too expensive and settle on it.
I think it is also a nice palate cleansing whisky if you had a sherry or peat monster and want to readjust your tastebuds. It’s interesting as the Glenfiddich does change based on what you had before, for me it’s a stock it.
@@atb8660 Oh yeah, that reminds me of when I had Ardbeg then I went back to Highland Park 12 and all I could taste was sherry sweetness. I think the pear in Gelnfiddich 12 goes well with a smoky cheese.
Before the repackaging and few years ago, the Glenfiddich 12 actually taste like a properly aged 12 years scotch. It's my daily dram. The recent bottles taste abit younger and with slight off putting sour note. For now, in the similar price range, I'm sticking to JW Black 12, Glenmorangie 10 & Glenfarclas 12 as my to go scotch. However, their travel exclusive and NAS releases are not too bad.
Great review! I hope you can do a review of the Glenfiddich 15 Solera as well, I've been wanting to try it ever since finding about the solera process!
I've been trying different scotches because I'm bored of bourbon. My first one I tried was Lagavulin Offerman edition, and then Lagavulin 16. That pretty much ruined all others because it was so good! I grabbed this one last night in hopes my wife might like it.
Trying to learn more of choices to give as gifts or to just have in my cupboard to offer a guest . I tried Glenlivet years ago and only recently recently have tried Bruichladdich Classic Laddie and a Monkey Shoulder then one glass of Dalmore . Strangely I came across a non peated organic style scotch that was finished in Calif coast I think I read ? So many ! I did notice the Glenfiddich12 was rather sweet at first .The limited edition art was pretty and it was on sale so I’m trying it .From what I can can tell so far ; I don’t care for super sweet ones and I like the smell of smoky ones but not the Taste of strong smoky peated scotch . I am Curious what is nice to offer without being the price of an upscale dinner for 2 ? I’m sure what it’s called but I have almost a buttery feel from tasting the Glenfiddich 12 .
Its a superb starter for sure, but its a great one to return to after you've been on the journey stemming from this start. When you get reconciled back to this 12year, you'll not be disappointed and it will be remembered as good as your memory of it. Always a good reunion. Glenfiddich is an institution of scotch pleasure.
Great video. Very decent whiskey, but personally I’ll pay a bit more for something with more punch and character. Stuff like Bunnahabhain 12, Arran 14, Deanston 12, etc. But its a very good Scotch for beginners.
I would stock it and regular order it at the pub. While I agree with you comment Stephen but if I am at pub with crap glassware (90 percent of pubs) there is no point ordering a fancy whisky you will be frustrated by failing to get the complexity and if you out with mates then the focus is not on the whisky anyway. Jameson or glenfiddich 12

Kicked off my evening a couple of hours ago with a dram of G12. Always enjoy it. Ashamed to say that I also have the 15yo, 18yo, IPA experiment and Fire & Cane but have yet to taste!

I won't mind having this one around! Pricey tho... Let me know whats similar shelf and also has the fruit apple notes! Debating Aberlour 12 or 1792 Small batch from what I've read for around the $50 -$75 CAD price point.
Hi Bill, have you done Singleton (Glen Ord) series? What you think of this? I’ve got one Signature bottle but it’s easy drinking, fruity, light bodied and bland. Nothing like the Glenfidditch 12 year or even Glenfidditch Reserve Cask.
