You know we shouldn't mind the marketing gimmicky whiskeys, because they make Highland Park a lot of money, which in turn can be used to make better age statement whiskeys that we will enjoy. And as long as they continue their age statement lineup, I really don't mind if they do stuff like this.

I think the whisky industry has taken notes from the comics industry of the 90s when publishers wanted to collect on the "collectors" take through multiple "collectors" editions.
I think whisky might be seeing the same "collector's bubble". I suspect $500 bottles of whisky packaged with action figures are targeting 'collectors' not drinkers. Hence I believe there will be plenty of HP Ice on the re-seller market for a very long time into the future.

Sounds like a nice one but at the prices I have seen it is well more than what it is likely worth. At least the 12, 15, and 18 are reasonable unlike Macallans ridiculous current prices on their 18, and fine oak 17 and 21. But people are stupid enough to buy Macallan 18 at $250. I look below and I see people complaining about HP18 being $130. I guess you better not go look at the production monster that is Macallan.

The enthusiastic overuse of flowery adjectives in the press release is truly amusing.

I recently bought a bottle of this. It is good whiskey, im not usually fond of highland park but this is a really good whiskey. It cost me $350 which i think is fair. It’s a lot of money compared to similarly aged bottles but it is a unique taste, in limited production. Usually when things are expensive its because they are slightly better and much more rare. This fits that bill. $350 isn’t even that much for a really good tasting whiskey in limited production when you consider a 12 year pappy is like $1000

Hp should test with a few confidential critics and connoisseurs before releasing crazy looking bottles and packages. The only thing I like is that an age statement is stated and they are usually decent whisky ex.( thor; loki; odin). Overpriced but most are now.

Iv had it. Its quite nice. Maybe not 300 dollars nice but definitely as good as the highland park 15 year ice had before. It is very light and best had neat, maybe slightly chilled.

Everybody knows how pricy these special bottlings or expressions are. It's not just 17yo whisky you are buying. You're buying a piece of a brand, norse mythology and so on and so on. Sounds rediculous but thats the game. If you want to go with as over-priced (129€ in Finland)18yo, you may choose to do so. It seems that all Edrington brands are getting more and more expensive.

"So many negative waves man, so many negative waves"... Donald Sutherland as 'Oddball' - Kelly's Heroes...
Just a different demographic peeps... Pour yourself a glass of 12 y/o if the 17 y/o 'Ice Edition' is too dear for you...
The Ice Edition is similar to the 25 y/o... has a very powerfull finish...
As you say, Nectarines, yes... Pineapple... no. Just my .02

Highland park moves on slippery ice !
The credibility of the brand is turning from quality whisky to a gimmick.
Every whisky drinker... Not collector... With a common sense will seriously doubt the reason for these releases.
For me ,the last nonsense overpriced releases has made me step away from it. Frankly it pisses me off .
If you want fruity pineapple buy Tomatin legacy for under 30,-
I wonder what the actual cost are for producing this bubble?

You know you're slipping when you add the word ice. Didnt work for Natty Ice or Pabst Blue Ribbon Light Ice or even Old Milwaukee Light Ice Draft. Not gonna work here.

yeah, but as long as their core range remains quality, we can just ignore the fad. Hopefully they don't pilfer their stocks too much for these "collectibles" at the expense of core range whiskies. Last year they introduced the 10YO here which I thought was nice, concentrating on core rather than bells and whistles.

+Danevv But 30.000 is not much in this case. For the German market 3000 bottles were determined. In Horst`s shop the bottle was sold out after one day. And with probability bordering on certainty he had the largest contingent of this 3000 bottles.
