@@Mikestarwalker My favorite form is form 6. I think it is underrated. I myself am indecisive. I will probably learn a bit of everything.

@@axinhedgelion8417Form 7 was known, but it was incomplete and discouraged by the Jedi for being too aggressive and requiring the practitioner to relish in combat. Darth Maul used Form 7. What Mace did was complete the form with Vaapad, a style that he created to counter his own inner darkness. Vaapad was really more of a state of mind. It basically acted as a looped conduit for any dark side emotions. This allowed Mace to safely use Juyo.

The Advanced Djem So combo was really cool! I am getting my first saber in shortly and I am wanting to learn how to spin and then duel but I don't know what form I'd like. I like the parries into a counter attack with the flow of this form but I am definitely more of a patient fighter but I like the shift though from Offense and Defense. I know you don't have to pick only one form but I'd like to incorporate the spins into a one form I like. I do like Makashi cause I like that jab and dance it's so elegant. I just want to see more forms on screen and bring back the emphasis on the different styles and that really show that these practitioners with a weapon like a lightsaber can look so cool on screen! Like the Acolyte fights I hope we get more of that level or higher in new projects 🥹 but I ready to learn, probably too old to develop the skill and have an onscreen performance but just for myself to have a cool skill for Halloweens 😁 that I can do lol
Probably my fav fighting style cuz of the 2 natures but just how fluid it comes out just by parrying your opponents strikes back towards them. Effective yet you’re not doing much of the work, great vid as always . Been waiting to see how you explain this one

Thanks man. The original plan is to touch on all 7 forms then go back and do more advanced tutorials. But I'm not opposed doing the more advanced tutorials first. Maybe I'll do a poll 🤔

Yeah I agree with that I would really like to see a form five modified to look like how Kylo fights, with included flourishes and reverse grips.
@@theconstantwatcher4008 Bleagh Crylo hardly qualifies as a full Form V specialist. He's a crude as hell Shi-Cho/Form V hybrid practitioner at best, but he's downright awful, overdoing his slashes and swinging like he's using a bat instead of a saber. The way he blocks makes no sense, between stucking his saber to the ground and just batting aside. Trash
I'd rather see how Galen Marek/Starkiller fights with reverse grip Shien mixed with Soresu and Juyo. Now that would be more interesting to see applied in a fight.
I guess it must’ve been extremely hard for Vader because the suit caused him pain. That and it enraged him, further enhancing his Dark Force strikes

Just thought I'd ask, but, other than having the blows strike through a block, what is a good way to make your choreography for someone using Djem So be visually different from someone using Shii Cho?
I’m obv not Mike or anyone on this channel, but I would use the Anakin spinning reverse block into a 3 or 4 while advancing, it always looks flashy but continues the offensive
It’s just hard to learn but given enough practice it’s really fun and satisfying to pull off. It’s like doing the second half of the Obi-Wan/Anakin spin (where you whip your arm behind you and skip the wrist part) while spinning counterclockwise if you’re right handed, and clockwise if you’re left
I would say lot making it clear is on the defender to look like they are getting hit with those force enhanced strikes and getting overwhelmed.

If I may also ask, how would you portray a Djem So and Juyo user going at one another? With Juyo bringing an overwhelming offense (granted at the expense of defense) greater than even Djem So, how would that go down?

Djem so is also the most similar to kenjutsu otherwise known as the way of the Japanese sword. As I have experience with kenjutsu, djem so would likely be the form I'd use as a Jedi

What we've seen so far in The Mandalorian has been great. I'll be looking forward to your Form VI tutorial. It was Sith Lord Exar Kun's favorite style, and he was never defeated in a saber fight.

Can you do these forms with saberstaffs? Everyone uses single blades for all presentations, but I wanna see how the forms are affected by the unusual saber
I think you can do any form with the staff, it’s just a matter of figuring out dual blade attacks. As far as I’m aware the best form to use a staff with is vaapad

FINALLY! I love this form of combat! But I have one question, how do I swing my saber with this form? I know it's different from the others, like Shii-Cho being straight with both hands or Makashi only moving the wrist, can you please clarify? Thanks! It was an awesome video.

I use lightsabers all night as a sport with my dear father. He showed me his love for this franchise and I loved it too. Today, July 4, he bought a new lightsaber and we can practice. It helps me burn some calories and I deeply enjoy these combats.

On "Sword Experts": They never take into account or even mention that the Jedi use the force to enhance their strikes.."
Thats because Sword Experts and Historical Fencers are approaching this from the perspective of reality. You're approaching it as a person fleshing out Fantasy. It is when people begin to discuss Lightsaber combat and forms as cohesive functional systems that the holes begin to appear and the Sword Expert's views become relevant.
The Force isn't real and neither is precognition. The biomenchanics of fencing are very real, however. Be that Kendo, HEMA, or Olympic fencing- swords and human bodies are limited by a set of natural laws, and combat is arranged along the concept of a connective line and how you control that line. lightsaber dueling is simply not an example of practical, efficient mastery of the line, displacement, or control. A human practicing any kind of Lightsaber duel is limited by the same physics that limit fencers. The difference is that fencing systems are designed to be as efficient as possible, which is what the Jedi, as hand-to-hand combatants would also have developed. The statement that lightsaber styles developed because students thought that combat would go on too long is a very good indicator that this is based in hollywood aesthetics and not any sort of realism. As a fencer myself I can tell you, if a duel goes on for longer than three exchanges, you are probably doing it wrong, and a lot of that has to do with a MAJOR flaw in lightsaber choreography, and that is the complete lack of binding.
Real fencing styles are about responsiveness- how the blades move after first contact. Much of the art of fencing is the art of the bind- feeling what the opponent is doing when the blades connect. This negates any need for precognition, as a person's blade will tell you what they are about to do. Hollywood eschews the bind because it's simply too difficult to tell what a person is thinking or doing. There isn't a clear winner. Rather, it's the reaction of the individual to the bind that typically determines a fight, and that is so lightening-quick that you can't see it. Instead, Hollywood choreographers developed styles where people hacked away at each other- as if sword fights are long, drawn out clubbing matches. That's why the idea of pre-cognition was developed- to explain the extended hack and slash as the result of masterful precognitive duelists. It's like comparing the ham-fisted "boxing" in Rocky to reality and trying to come up with reasons for Stallone carrying his hand in his ass. The point is to tell a story. Beyond that, any sort of analysis is largely an exercise in futility.
I think it'd be cool to make a few more non choreography duels! Ive done a couple myself and that instinct/"jedi foresight" kinda actually kicks in after a certain point👍👍

Before the sequels of episode 7, 8, 9, they actually used to train their actors if they had the roll of sith, or Jedi. But when Disney I guess bought Lucasfilm, I think they just said, alright here ya go, here’s a lightsaber we don’t have time to train you! This was amazing! Could you please do a tutorial on how to make choreography look fluid and "realistic" in a way? When my friend and I do these, we don't look nearly as fluid, and we aren't nearly as flashy as you guys, even if our movements are exaggerated.
Do you guys know, how to fight with form II? I remember, Darth Nihilus used to fight with it, even using the force as the main weapon
Form V: this form actually has 2 variants: shien, and djem so. Both are about using defense to reflect a powerful offense.
Shien: the goal is to deflect blaster bolts back in an offensive manner (at the one who shot, another opponent, or even at an object).
don’t use it in a melee combat, you’ll get squashed like master Halsey did.
Djem So: the goal is to have the most powerful offense possible, and destroying the opponents defense.
Anakins form had the offensive aspects and cunning counter attacks of Djem so, but it isn’t very mobile so anakin added the footwork and acrobatics of Ataru (form IV), and to perfect defenses: added the defensive aspects of soresu (form III). Anakin perfected the form by reducing its weaknesses and perfecting its strengths!
As Darth Vader, he added the “do the most with the least movement” aspect of form 2 to the overwhelming offense of djem so!
Correct Me if this Sounds Dumb, But Shien sounds Alot Like Majorleague Baseball. The Goal is Not the Merely Deflect the Ball But Actively Aim it With your Swing at a Specfic Area. While Soresu Is More About Trying Not to Get Hit By an Immature PItch. HEY Somebody Call the REF that Was Deliberate!!!
You're thinking of it the wrong way...each Lightsaber combat Form isn't so much the style or way you move your wrist...its your state of mind when you perform the movement. For Example, Makashi or Form II, is about controlling space and conservation of energy so ending the duel with accurate, effective and efficient strikes you could actually achieve this with footwork alone. Form III all defense and making the opponent use the energy up during the fight so you can win with a critical hit.
Form V Shien - basically an ofshoot of Form III but a more aggressive approach to this style that is more focused on the offensive side of fighting.
Form V Djem So - A version of Form V more focused on Lightsaber combat and redirecting the opponent's attacks back to them.
it's basically two-handed swordsmanship but more aggressive with active defense

This looks awesome but saber duels definetely should be more fencing and nobody should be fine knowing just a few forms, this understanding of combat is dangerously flawed.
