What impressed me about this movie was how so many small pieces from the show came full circle, even some things I didn't like from the show make so much sense when viewing Disappearance
I've made it a tradition to watch this movie every December. I love everything about it, particularly the theme of confronting reality and the temptation of escapism. Same goes with the soundtrack; the "Ready" theme that plays during Kyon's revelation is grand, bittersweet, and underscores that sense of longing for what he wants. The vocals in the end credit song feel make me feel somber, isolated, and remind me that Winter is just days away. Good times.
my first introduction to anime was this beautiful movie. I watched the whole thing dubbed on UA-cam one night as a teenager laying in bed, watching on an old smartphone. I was so lost with the lore but so entranced by the movie that it didn't even matter.
I finish watching this movie today. I have a new appreciation for Yuki now. Personally, she is my favorite character. At the very end of the credits where she was at the library was gold to me.
I remember the first time I watched this movie, and I was in awe the entire time. The animation quality impressed me, from footsteps to doors creaking. The story was another part I absolutely loved. Not to mention all the attention to detail. From kyon stumbling recklessly past the table knocking over books to reach Nagato, to tripping over desks, and other behavior to convey kyon's mental state. I also loved the lighting and color design, not to mention the animation, with scenes selectively animated on ones with an amazing level of smoothness. The soundtrack was also something I really enjoyed. I especially loved the inclusion of Gymnopedie, probably at Takemoto's request. This was one of the first films I called a "Cinematic Masterpiece".
Haruhi is the GOAT. I too didn't like Haruhi at first, dropping it after 3 or 4 episodes a few years ago. Now it is without a doubt one of my favorite series of any medium. The English dub is also incredible. Crispin Freeman as Kyon is legendary, and Wendee Lee is the perfect Haruhi. Happy to see you bought the light novels! The arcs that follow are amazing. My two favorites being snowy mountain syndrome, and the surprise. Enjoy!
I 100% agree on the english dub. Crispin Freeman alone makes me want to watch it more than the sub. I've been slowly making my way through the light novels, and snowy mountain syndrome was a great way to kick off the unadapted content. I like these little one-off stories the author puts in a lot. Looking forward to reading more!
Oh and it warms my cold, black, dead, frozen heart that this little something still lives in hearts of a younger generations... Keep up the good job son...
One of the biggest achivements of this movie is retroactively giving endless eight so much dramatic weight that seven almost identical episodes in a row are almost justified in the hindsight. That's crazy. This film and the Tokyo Godfathers are my goto Christmas movies for a while now, and I find it kinda funny, because they both are kinda bleak and heavy for a big portion ot their runtime. Also, holy shit, Disappearance was totaly a quasi-sci-fi take on It's a Wonderful Life, aint it?
Disappearance is 100% responsible for my favorable opinion on endless eight. I actually got dragged to a theatre by my brother to see a re-screening of Tokyo Godfathers but they messed up the subtitles and gave us all refunds lol. Still have yet to watch it. Also now that you mention it, it is extremely similar to It's a Wonderful Life, isn't it?
That rooftop scene with nagato is this best part of the series, Kyo ani Is Legendary just from this film alone. They really push the limits of what a studio can do given an amazing staff and work ethics, They truly set themselves to be different from other animators.
I watched the entire haruhi series a few months ago and I was hooked on the very first episode. It was a very fun, unique and interesting series that I could not get enough of. When I finished season 2 and it was time to watch the movie, I felt like I didn’t get enough of the show itself. But then I watched the movie and it was like all that went away. The animation was mind blowing, the music was incredible and it ended my haruhi journey in the best way I could imagine. This is without a doubt one of my favorite movies of all time and I can’t wait for the day when I’ll finally rewatch haruhi again.
This movie came out during my high school years. I remember having to watch a cam rip of this movie from Japan (Im surprised the person wasn't caught). This movie was a big deal when it was coming out, so much more when it was announced to be released in the US. I wasn't able to go but people who went were given a choice between getting volume 1 of the manga or the light novel. I believe the director (or someone else from KyoAni) went to the screening in the US and was amazed at the audience reaction because it was different from when he watched it in an audience in Japan. He was very pleased by the experience. Also dont worry about the 12 times you watched this movie. There was a Japanese fan who watched the movie over 100 times while it was still in Japanese theaters. I believe he also flew from Japan to watch it again in theaters.
Thanks for sharing, I’m so glad it was important in the west too and that Takemoto (or whoever else from kyoani) was pleasantly surprised. I wonder how much it costs to rent a theater and screen it there again to relive the experience lol
I remember around 2008 people were thinking about how Season 2 would have Disappearance as a six episode arc like Melancholy in the first. And whilst Endless Eight was a pain in the ass, I am so glad they made it a movie instead. Cutting this story in 24 minute segments would not work, the tone of the altered world would likely not hit the same on a TV budget, the incredible colouring work of this film is the big example, the more authentic orchestra would instead be synth and digital music, which given previous seasons could work but it would take away the impact the OST has. I also saw someone, either another reviewer or some random commenter, complained about Kyon's narration being over used in the film. Likely forgetting that the narration is used to tell just how alone Kyon is innthis story and, sure, could have done with some more "Show, dont tell" but it litterally gets you into his mindset.
At first I didn't know why Future Asahina was aware of the fact that Kyon was going to show up. It wasn't until I rewatched it that I realized during the stab: "Oh wait, Kid Asahina is here, meaning that she came along with Post-Ending Kyon and Nagato"
I could go on for days about the writing, god tier cinematography, music etc , what does it for me are how the background characters will stop and give weird looks to the cast when they do anything crazy, then after some time they go back to what they are doing. That is unreal to me. Also the facial animations are so detailed and diverse, they even have their own styles of blinking! The shift from alien nagato to human nagato is a perfect example of how kyoani are the masters of body language animation There are so many scenes in this film that could be dissected for days... I think k-on has been dethroned for me. Both are from the same era and have this level of quality but damn this movie was great. It's a challenging dense film in the best way possible
@@Totaraum Probably not.... But it is a great view at night. I have located almost all the scenes from the episodes and the movie. Almost all. There are two others who have done the same, each showing side by side of real Japan with the show/movie, for about 35 scenes. I found a few dozen more. When my family and I visited Japan, about 7 years ago, we went to Nishinomiya and I took photos of my (then) 18 year old son in various scenes from the movie. I did not go by the school, though, for that would have been too embarrassing. I was profoundly and unnervingly upset when I saw that they tore down the restaurant (where the Haruhi from Kyoen academy was listening to Kyon's story and believed it) and replaced it with a Lawsons or something. That really bothered me. I had lunch at that restaurant. Not the same seat that Kyon, et al, sat, but right next to it.
@@davidyoung6331 that’s amazing, it must’ve been so cool to visit all those places. I understand not wanting to go to a high school during classes, but maybe you could’ve just taken a walk up that iconic hill. That’s a shame about the diner. I remember being so happy when they revisited it in the chuunibyou movie along with so many other locations from other kyoani shows
this is my favorite anime movie simply because of the monologue at the end of it all, it was one of the most well written man v self moments ive ever seen. and also because haruhi is a god and i adore her lol
@@Totaraum that's too much xD but they should seriously consider popularizing this movie along with the anime. it's, in my opinion, THAT good of a show to just let go that easily. it was quite literally a jawdropper for me, and i can guarantee that with this new generation, along with how well the anime and movie were put together, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya will be met with MASSIVE commercial success should they finally have the balls to stop trolling us and make the 3rd season lol, though with all the stuff that's happened over the years its really hard to tell if they're going to go through with it
@@Totaraum still i think it would be alright to see some form of change, i mean yeah it wouldn't feel as nostalgic as what it once was with kyoani, but honestly i would put that aside just so that i could have some new content to binge watch. i personally feel like its not really the animation, but the plot that attracts people. it would pretty much be the same thing like both season 1 and 2, just with different animation styles (though i swear to god if a season 3 IS produced and its made by satelight i better not see the characters blush 5 seconds into a normal fucking conversation). but i agree. in my opinion the entire series should end with haruhi and kyon finally realizing their hidden feelings (sorry to the other shippers out there). but i understand a lot of people would be upset with kyoani not being the animation studio
Excuse me for adding a comment over a year since you released your review/analysis, but there's another level to the visual symbolism in 'Disappearance' that many viewers miss, even though it's right in front of our eyes. The book that Nagato is reading, which she states she borrowed from the town's library, is titled 'Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World,' written by Haruki Murakami. In fact the ISBN number is clearly visible in the earlier scene in which Kyon pushes Nagato against the wall in the clubroom. This book's theme essentially foreshadows 'Disappearance,' therefore, in my opinion, the ISBN was shown as a deliberate clue. Similarly, the same hint was given to the viewers in the last episode of the series 'Someday in the Rain.' Once again we are shown the cover of a book then the ISBN number. It's even left by Nagato on the table in front of Kyon when she leaves and we get another brief view of the cover when Kyon wakes up with two cardigans across his back. That book was 'I Want to Kick You in the Back' by Rita Wataya. So why would Nagato leave that book in the open for Kyon to find, when she is habitually tidy and usually puts her books back on the shelf? Because the book's theme closely echoes Nagato's feelings at that time towards Kyon, and foreshadows what's about to happen, i.e. 'Disappearance.' One last example for now comes from earlier in the series. Nagato is seen reading Simon Singh's 'The Code Book: The Science of Secrecy from Ancient Egypt to Quantum Cryptography.' Its cover shows a selection of keys. This foreshadows the clue Nagato left behind for Kyon in 'Disappearance,' in which she tells him to "find the keys." These 'keys' i.e. Haruhi, Koizumi and Asahina effectively unlock the escape programme on the W95 computer. There are other examples I could mention, but my point is that literary clues have been planted for us to pick up on all through the series; and they all lead to the same conclusion.
I loved this video. Thank you so much for this. Melancholy was one of my earliest animes I watch in its entirety. It's left its mark on me. I even enjoyed the endless 8 potion in a way. A little heartbroken for Nagato though.
I felt the same way. You might like The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan, it's a spinoff set in the movie alternate timeline. The animation is nowhere near as good (different studio), but I found it to be an enjoyable story, especially starting around episode 11. Make sure to stay for the after credits scene on episode 10.
Perfect encapsulation of everything wonderful about this movie! I always watch it around December, just a good time to do it. I have the soundtrack on too its just so wonderful to relive the movie through it every once in a while.
There is one thing that will be hard to recreate about this kind of movie. Is how much can only 1 movie do to legacy of some anime series. This movie made Haruhi legendary and made some people realise how impactful "endless 8" is if you watched it first then this movie at the end of it all.
This is the only movie I basically watched twice in a row. It's not the first time, where I thought, I could just watch it once immediately after I finished, and I didn't also watch it immediately. I rewatched it the next day with my brother, who hadn't seen it yet. Today I rewatched it the third time. It wasn't as good as back then (probably 10 years ago, at least 5), though. But I expected that. The only thing I remembered is Haruhi being a normal person, who believes all that stuff. I still like it. There's a lot of stuff, that isn't even told, and you have to think about it yourself.
I forgot your channel even exist for 5 months now, and suddenly it got recommended. You have very good reviews keep it up. I really like haruhi so much the anime is atleast on my top 10 favorite. I first time saw your channel on your k on video, K On is my favorite anime tbh Thank you that I found a fellow kyoani fan
@@Totaraum Even seeing the differences between the anime and the source material is pretty neat! For example, Remote Island Syndrome is pretty different in the light novels- I’m really sad we didn’t get to see some of those shenanigans added in. Though I would highly reccomend continuing. Some of the later arcs rival Disappearance for my favorite, which is saying something. (Of course you can’t beat the actual film, but some of the character moments and expansions on those in the cast who don’t get as much attention are just… mwah!)
@Totaraum @24:55 I can tell you why do you wanna go back why Kyon wants to go back. At least, in my reasoning, it is the lack of knowledge the memory you don’t have in the world. What I mean about that is you have memories from the other world, but the events that are different in this new world don’t have any recollection, or a memory of what happened in this specific version of the timeline/world. So going back to the other world, your memories would line up to what really happened. So you don’t have to embarrass yourself about saying something that never actually happened or if someone bring something up that happened in the past of that timeline that probably happened but you don’t know what it really was.
That makes sense for why it immediately felt wrong. I feel like the other reasons I gave in the video are more applicable, but this is a part of it I hadn’t considered yet. Thanks for sharing!
Yesterday and today I finally watched this movie. I'd been stalling on it for months if not a whole year because I wanted to watch it with my mom, but with its "arguably longest animated film of all time" length, setting aside the time for it wasn't exactly a priority... While Disappearance had the same nitpicks I have with most anime movies, it was still an INCREDIBLY captivating and impressive film, and I absolutely adored it. So not only do I give Disappearance a coveted five stars, but it's quite possibly the very best anime film I've ever seen (if not animated film, period). Indeed, I'd even call Disappearance better than the likes of The End of Evangelion (a film that I know you must absolutely adore), with a plot and message more profound than even chefs d'oeuvre like Non Non Biyori Vacation. What a banger conclusion to the main Haruhi anime, seriously! The main show ends in such a boring and abrupt way, and if I'd known that *this* was what it was building up to, I wouldn't have waited as long as a literal year to watch this movie... And the first thing ma and I did after finishing the Disappearance movie was to watch this review. You did very good with it, pointing out little details that went completely over my and ma's heads. With 100+ comments and only one dislike it seems like this video was particularly warmly received by your fans. I wish I'd kept better track of what you did and said in this video to provide better feedback than just "gud". But anyways. I swear to God that I *am* going to check out the Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan, *eventually*. You can't tell me what to do. You aren't my real father. So what if frigging everybody in the world seems to think that the Yuki-chan show is just stinky poopoo butt nuggets! At this point I'm literally willing to watch chibi Tsuruya talk about smoked cheese in the voice of Ayumu Kasuga just to get my Haruhi fix. The Yuki-chan anime has to be a special kind of dogsh!te if I apparently have to avoid it like the Elephant's Foot.
Happy to hear that you finally saw it, this movie is a gem. Also watch that spin off at your own risk lol. I will admit, though, I care a little too much about Haruhi so the way it erases everything that made this franchise special might cut a little deeper for me. Others might enjoy it just fine
@@Totaraum Don't be silly, there is no such thing as caring too much about Haruhi. Every day I thank the Fates for the long series of coincidences that eventually led me to this fair little franchise. I wonder if that Haruhi-loving 4'0" Icelandic femboy who I used to share a class with is doing OK… I might not have gotten into Haruhi if I weren't simping that guy for fashion advice. :^)
2:03 you'd be surprised it was set in Nishinomiya, the same place where Haruhi's author was born and raised in fact a lot of KyoAni stuff was actually for real that I was that person who located the Chuunibyou School among the English speaking fans that it was placed in the Shiga Prefecture
Ive watched the movie every Christmas for what I have lost count now but at least 6 or 7 times and I do not even know how many times I have watched the ready scene. Safe to say I heavily agree and was surprised to see this video pop up but I am not complaining, another excuse to revisit the movie.
So Kyon only actually gets transported back to the old world, after falling from the stab wound in the new world, or the Asakura in the old world came to stab Kyon after realising he rejected the Nagato's new world and he actually returned. I emphatise with Nagato's character. It is not unusual once Nagato has feelings she eventually felt she is nothing like Haruhi despite Nagato has powers over Haruhi. Kyon's "distaste" for SOS Bridgade's adventures gave Nagato a reason to make a new world Kyon would like, where Haruhi is in a different school, Nagato would not feel overshadowed by Haruhi.
Hey man great video keep up the good work I really really enjoy your channel. I've watched K-on and Clannad because of you and get to enjoy a great video every 2 weeks or so. Again love your videos keep them coming.
It'd be nice if Nagato had given Kyon the option to return to the original reality but still strip Haruhi of her power, so they don't, y'know, keep having to worry about her destroying the world is she gets grumpy.
I adore this movie. And like others watch it again every December. I'm not sure why. But when I read The Intrigues of Haruhi Suzumiya. I was a little disappointed by how the Disappearance Arc finally ended. Although Intrigues is my favourite book. Despite the huge complete twist at the end of Surprise.
Funny thing too, when Kyon emerges in the new world, the lighting is very similar to the first episode UP UNTIL Haruhi introduces herself. Man, i wish i could watch this for the first time again.
I just want to say thank you! Haruhi has been my favorite for a while now and sadly not many people explored it well. But you changed everything I'm really grateful for your videos and how good they are, your way of making videos is awesome. I'm happy to know that I'm not the only one who likes haruhi that much! Keep up the good work man!
Yes I read descriptions :) Thank you for making such content for Haruhi fans to watch after we have finished the show. It means alot in journeying through post-Haruhi withdrawal
i watched the disappearance of yuki nagato first and then i saw some spin off of it or something and then it lead to me watching the best movie I've ever seen in my life
Amazing in depth review as always but one thing i have to point out is that Kyon didn’t call Nagato by her first name in the hospital roof scene. He was saying snow aka yuki in Japanese. Her name and the Japanese word for snow is a homophone.
In the dub he says "Yuki means snow, doesn't it?" In the sub all he says is "Yuki" and when Nagato looks up he's staring at the sky. He definitely isn't referring to her name in the sub, but in the dub it's up in the air. Good catch
@@Totaraum ahh I see. I didn’t watch the dub so never knew that line was added in. Imo he wasn’t referring to Nagato but i haven’t read the ln so I might be wrong
@@sodapop912 They made him say it because having him say a japanese word after only speaking english wouldn't make sense, and if he just said "snow" then Nagato would have no reason to look at him like he just called her name. Pretty good compromise I'd say
c'est une bonne vidéo mais elle me déprime comme a chaque fois que je revois le film car en France nous n'avons pas eu la suite et en animation c'est mort ^^.
Favourite animated movie of all time with my second being Kizumonogatari. I've watched it every Winter since 2019 and the only reason I haven't watched it more is of fear that'll I'll oversaturate it if I do.
Dear Santa-Totaraum, I've been a good kid the whole year. A really really good one. And I like your videos a lot! Please, may I have a video about "The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan" made by studio Satelight in 2015 for Christmas? Thank you! D.
@@Totaraum It might be as simple as that. But it also feels like it’s more. I can’t explain it tho 🤷♂️ Btw watching your other Haruhi video rn. Love your stuff 👌
@@jayevans6146 I find that a lot of great pieces of media make you feel a slew of positive emotions as opposed to just one easily definable feeling. I actually just watched disappearance again yesterday because I was showing it to a friend and I somehow found something new to appreciate about it. Also thank you! I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos
@@Totaraum Nah, from what I've seen it was almost finished, like 90% finished but the author hasn't gotten around to concluding it, I hope I'm wrong though
@@Abridgimation There was a new light novel released last year. Titled 'The Intuition of Haruhi Suzumiya' it's a collection of short stories, but reading between the lines I get the distinct impression that Tanigawa is testing the water, so to speak, before returning to the main story. I really hope he completes it, even if only to explain what that Titanium Caesium bar is meant to be used for.
I actually like the series too, I started to watch it by mistake by release order because that was the order it was introduced to me, but I soon realized that it was not in the correct order because I just ended watching a few ones that where in an incorrect order too (11eyes and Modern Magic Made Simple). I remember when the 3rd episode of the infamous endless 8 dropped, I was sure it would end it (one episode to start it , one episode to make a point and a 3rd to end it), but no, so I commented online WTH, and them some one pointed out that the "Endless 8" in the LN was just a few pages, so I replied that I think that if it is called "endless 8" then maybe they did 8 of this ones, and said them "see you on the 8 episode", of course I dropped in the forum after the 4rd episode to confirm my prediction, so I didn't fully suffered along with the entire community, but I can see how after that many started to hate them with fired passion. I also watched this movie a lot, the trigger is always some one that reminds me of it.
I'd fill this comment with praises but I wouldn't really be able to say something that hasn't been said already, obviously it goes without saying that I think that this movie is a chef-d'oeuvre, but one thing that pains me is that this film wasn't released in many countries, and it honestly really deserved it and it will always bug me that I, along many other people, never got to experience it on the big screen
35:34 Don't tell me this melody is from the movie. I'm wondering all the day where this melody is from. I thought, it's something classical. But now you even play it in your credits, so...
I have never played a Japanese made game outside of Mario on a 3DS, and I don't get the MGS references. I know what MGS is but I see clips of it all the time, my game was putting absurd amounts of PS2 cheatcodes into my friends games whilst simultaneously reading the Harry Potter books. My Game was that. Oh right Haruhi! Haruhi is Haruhi! To be is to be! Haruhi! ¬,¬ Haruhi ¬,¬ Lay low, the Espers are out again!
was thinking of watching this show, but kinda got turned off on how people say to watch s1 and s2 of the show, u watch chrono/release/or in order by episode number? help? seen some people say watch s2 before even ending s1
I think it's perfectly find to just watch the show in chronological order. This blends episodes of season 1 and 2 together to create a linear timeline. Wikipedia has a list of all the episode names in chronological order for you, however wherever you watch it on should already have it ordered correctly. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_The_Melancholy_of_Haruhi_Suzumiya_episodes This list also has guides for the original watch order, but I will say that it makes the show very confusing to follow. Whichever path you choose, they're all worth it to get to the movie
Only one thing: you need to learn to respect anime and watch it in original VA with english subtitles....Englis dub IS AGONIZING!!!!!! Sincerely, Just a Dango man....
fuck. that's in like 8 weeks.. we or rather "I" better be satisfied by the ending of all of it or else I'm gonna throw a fit and yell at a wall that's very thin which the next door neighbours can hear through
I was like wtf when i first watch the series 2 hours and 40 minutes of the repeated same ep but with small alterations but it must have been hell if you are an light novel reader
I watched it right after I finished the movie and I really enjoyed it. Being able to see the alternate reality versions of the characters seen in this movie was awesome, and I got attached to them really fast. And the dark turn that the show took halfway through the series was great, and Id say I enjoyed it just as much as the original series. Still not as great as the original haruhi show though
What impressed me about this movie was how so many small pieces from the show came full circle, even some things I didn't like from the show make so much sense when viewing Disappearance

Endless 8 could have been a movie too.
At first I didn't know why Future Asahina was aware of the fact that Kyon was going to show up.
It wasn't until I rewatched it that I realized during the stab:
"Oh wait, Kid Asahina is here, meaning that she came along with Post-Ending Kyon and Nagato"
yup lol
Just wanted to say thanks for finally getting me to watch Disappearance haha
Thank you, now I can finally appreciate this show better.
Glad to hear it!
I just rewatched this movie again, still great till this day. wishing for season 3 plss, kyoAni
Dammit, now i gotta rewatch this, thanks xD
Anytime
I could go on for days about the writing, god tier cinematography, music etc , what does it for me are how the background characters will stop and give weird looks to the cast when they do anything crazy, then after some time they go back to what they are doing. That is unreal to me.
Also the facial animations are so detailed and diverse, they even have their own styles of blinking!
The shift from alien nagato to human nagato is a perfect example of how kyoani are the masters of body language animation
There are so many scenes in this film that could be dissected for days... I think k-on has been dethroned for me. Both are from the same era and have this level of quality but damn this movie was great. It's a challenging dense film in the best way possible
The hospital rooftop scene with Kyon and Yuki was "filmed" on top of a hospital on Rokkō Island, just southwest of Nishinomiya.
Very cool. I'd love to visit but I don't think they'd let me on the roof
It’s one of my favorite scenes period. They should teach lectures about it in school
@@Totaraum that's too much xD but they should seriously consider popularizing this movie along with the anime. it's, in my opinion, THAT good of a show to just let go that easily. it was quite literally a jawdropper for me, and i can guarantee that with this new generation, along with how well the anime and movie were put together, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya will be met with MASSIVE commercial success should they finally have the balls to stop trolling us and make the 3rd season lol, though with all the stuff that's happened over the years its really hard to tell if they're going to go through with it
@@shantky if it does happen, it definitely won’t be from kyoani. Knowing that I think it’d be alright to let the franchise end with disappearance
I wonder if we'll ever see Haruhi on the small screen again.
I wonder that too, but I’m pretty content with what we’ve got
@@Totaraum I always had the feeling that it wasn't nearly enough but after an entire decade of thought you might be correct in your assessment.
Man you’ve watched it more than me and I saw it not long before or after you lol i really love that movie
'Disappearance.'
One last example for now comes from earlier in the series.
I'm glad you enjoyed it so much, thank you for watching!
Absolutely, I should probably stop obsessively watching it and make it an annual tradition like so many of you have
Amazing analysis. I found myself shedding a few tears while watching
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it
There is one thing that will be hard to recreate about this kind of movie. Is how much can only 1 movie do to legacy of some anime series. This movie made Haruhi legendary and made some people realise how impactful "endless 8" is if you watched it first then this movie at the end of it all.
Definitely. I realized how special haruhi was because of disappearance
It's kind of weird to have found your channel just after you released a Haruhi Video.
I started to rewatch Haruhi less than a week ago.
Gotta say, disappearance is probably in my top 3 movies of all time
I forgot your channel even exist for 5 months now, and suddenly it got recommended. You have very good reviews keep it up. I really like haruhi so much the anime is atleast on my top 10 favorite. I first time saw your channel on your k on video, K On is my favorite anime tbh
Thank you that I found a fellow kyoani fan
Welcome back! I'm glad you like the videos
you best enjoy those books they’re a treat
I stopped about halfway through (right at where the new content begins) but I enjoyed what I read, even if it was a retread
@@Totaraum your welcome. And thank you for seeing it and messaging me. It is much appreciated.

2:03 you'd be surprised it was set in Nishinomiya, the same place where Haruhi's author was born and raised
in fact a lot of KyoAni stuff was actually for real that I was that person who located the Chuunibyou School among the English speaking fans that it was placed in the Shiga Prefecture
That’s super cool, I knew most of the shows were based on real places but with haruhi in particular I don’t believe they ever named the location
Ive watched the movie every Christmas for what I have lost count now but at least 6 or 7 times and I do not even know how many times I have watched the ready scene. Safe to say I heavily agree and was surprised to see this video pop up but I am not complaining, another excuse to revisit the movie.
Happy to hear you liked it!

I love this mans vids
Thank you!

I Literally Enjoyed The Series especially the Endless 8 alongside with Hare Hare Yukai
Same here. I wasn't a fan of endless 8 for quite a while but I came around to it eventually
It'd be nice if Nagato had given Kyon the option to return to the original reality but still strip Haruhi of her power, so they don't, y'know, keep having to worry about her destroying the world is she gets grumpy.

Thanks lol
I adore this movie. And like others watch it again every December. I'm not sure why. But when I read The Intrigues of Haruhi Suzumiya. I was a little disappointed by how the Disappearance Arc finally ended. Although Intrigues is my favourite book. Despite the huge complete twist at the end of Surprise.

Funny thing too, when Kyon emerges in the new world, the lighting is very similar to the first episode UP UNTIL Haruhi introduces herself. Man, i wish i could watch this for the first time again.

Yeah endless 8 was wild. I can’t imagine what it was like to watch it air, but nowadays I’m very fond of it
I'd fill this comment with praises but I wouldn't really be able to say something that hasn't been said already, obviously it goes without saying that I think that this movie is a chef-d'oeuvre, but one thing that pains me is that this film wasn't released in many countries, and it honestly really deserved it and it will always bug me that I, along many other people, never got to experience it on the big screen
