Really happy and mind blown that some of my childhood games i got curious about some months ago have some great videos on them about speed running, love this content, blows my mind how creative some solutions throughout the series are
That GDQ section was really moving tbh. I’m glad that your first experience here in the US was super fun and memorable. There’s nothing like being able to play speedgames with the homies in person. It really does hit different. Wonderful video
I showed my dad this series just 2 days ago, we watched the first 2 episodes together. It was his first time ever hearing about speedrunning, and he was blown away that there are whole communities dedicated to it. He said its really cool that one of the people who was actually doing it put together a whole series telling it's stories. He remembers my brother and I playing it as kids
I remember skipping class in college just to watch that ADGQ race. So cool going back in time with you during this series. Bruh Im even in chat during the recap stream, lets go.
Huge GDQ for Ratchet UYA as well. I remember hanging out in Xem's chat a few times back in 2014, and then suddenly seeing the run at GDQ and how some 'meme' strats were suddenly viable and standard. Blew me away.
This series is beyond amazing and more people need to watch it! Great visuals, top tier music, the layout and script! Its crazy how well documented Jak 3 speed running is!! Cant wait for the VII Keep up the amazing work Ricky 🔥
One of my favorite parts of these videos is how you show off the competitive comradery in all the players in the community. Everyone is trying to win, but everyone wants everyone to win, and get faster, and learn more. It's so awesome
You should know I had NO interest in speedrunning until I found your Seaport Strip video and now I'm addicted. Jak was always my favourite game series as a kid.
When I watched the ERA I video like 3 days ago I wasn't expectating I would watch the rest of the series so fast but here I am. Your editing skills and narration are next level, every video is an addicting watch and I can't wait for the ERA VIII video.
It's very notable how happy you were to take part in GDQ and visit your friends in America. I got so carried away by it that I completely forgot everything around myself until the video was over. What a joy to watch. Thank you very much for sharing this experience!
Another banger. Good stuff, man. Love the inclusion of the GDQ race and Slice-of-Life bits. Really shows how much deeper the hobby can be beyond just playing the same game over and over to go faster and faster
man, so many good memories in this one, AGDQ 2016 was probably my favorite GDQ from a viewer perspective by far also that beach clip LMAO, cracks me up every time great video as always ricky 🔥
i've never tried to speed run a game before, but this series makes me want to try for Jak 3 since it's my favorite game series of all time. I'm just very nervous trying something new like this for the first time lol Very overwhelming
Jak 3 was a gigantic part of my childhood, it has been a ton of fun watching, and rewatching these videos, I even dusted off my ps2 and started practicing the level skips and it’s exhilarating to do even the most simple skips. Keep this series up!
As an American, thank you for taking the time to come here back in 2016 and introducing Jak 3 speedruns to a new audience. :) Glad to also see the Super Punch-Out community get some representation in this video (20:22 and 20:32)!
I actually saw your AGDQ race which introduced me to you and other Jak speedrunners. I have always loved J&D as a game series and also have always loved speedrunning. Seeing such a passionate speedrunning community for Jak is crazy to me. Even though I've only ever been a viewer and never a runner, watching the runs have made me feel connected to this community.
What a fun and well made series this has been. Jak was a childhood game of mine and it is so entertaining to see just how dedicated some people were to playing it that I wouldn't have had any idea otherwise without your hard work in creating these. I eagerly await the next part!
LET'S GO more peak is here!!!! Best speedrun documentation on yt After watching the video, I can confirm it was a banger This one feels like a short break from the rest, which is nice to see Keep cooking!
There's just something mesmerizing about revisiting this era piece by piece and seeing just how far things have come along the way. Truly a fantastic series so far. Makes me wish I was a part of that, but also makes me glad to see so many happy memories made. Your music choices especially here, that Duelist of the Roses slip-in definitely caught my ear.
Being up at 4am on a school day when I was only 15, seeing the two most anticipated runs back to back, and watching my first live GDQ, was and still is a high mark in my young life. Seeing the race again brought back so many memories. Thanks Ricky, I can't wait to see the rest of this series.
Started watching this series ever since the first ERA, the whole thing is just fascinating! Like I have never click on a video faster as soon as I saw the notification! This series makes me want to get back into speedrunning sooooo bad! Thanks for great content my dude! Keen to see what you have in store for the next ERA!
as a bystander who was there at the beach event, i can 100% confirm none of that was scripted. they talked for about 45 minutes before even throwing a frisbee or touching water.
This video series continues to be amazing. It's fantastic to see that if a game's Any% category just becomes "unfun" because of new discoveries communities can come together and create alternative category rulesest to preserve the legacy, accommodate different tastes and playstyles, and/or keep the community lively. I think that's just amazing, gaming should be about finding your own way to have fun! Your editing is top-notch, music choices are great, the sense of suspense is killing me, and your personal stories, memories and connections to all these people and your palpable love for the game are just... Man. Videos don't get better than this. There's nothing better than listening to a guy talk about their passion. It's a real treat to learn so much about the finest details of Jak 3's speedrunning scene has evolved over time from one of the only people who could share the story. Thank you!
Thank you so much, this was a really nice comment. Very thoughtful :) - I am super passionate about this and I'm happy that others care about watching this as much as I do making it
This series is so great. Me and my brother used to play Jak III all the time and had no idea what speed running was. Now everytime u upload a new era we'll text eachother like NEW THA RIXER and then ring the next day to talk about it. The whole series is so well done and awesome, such a wicked documentary, but also its really nice to watch it together with my brother when I live in a different country now, especially when its about a game we used to play together in the same room
Found out about this series and your channel not so long ago, and, as someone who's not particularly into speedrunning, this is being a blast to watch. Keep up the good work!
Another banger, absolutely love it. It's so cool that you guys made such a MASSIVE difference to Jak 3 speedrunning, especially being able to bring so much new attention to the game as a whole at AGDQ. I eagerly await the next part
I don't do speedrunning in any games and I don't honestly care too much about them in general, at least not enough to watch speedrun streams. These documents, however, are very interesting. Great entertainment, great commentary. Thank you for creating these Rixer!
GDQs have always been a highlight of my year and it's really cool to see that i'm not alone in that. i vaguely remember watching the jak 3 race a long time ago when i first discovered speedrunning and it was a really great run. always excited for this series, great episode
I just found a picture of young me holding a copy of jak 2. I will join the discord to post that at some point Never played Jak 3, only the demo. I have the collection on Vita though so soon I will casually play it Love this series
At the start I was beginning to think no OOB would be some mental gymnastics to just run without desert skip but it's cool to see the run was significantly different from pre desert skip
Been watching this series from the beginning and I always look forward to the next episode. Been lurking since the "Jak 3's most polarizing level" video, but I plan to leave more comments to help you in the algorithm.
another awesome video, been loving the whole narrative since the first one. Really makes me want to pick up this game one day. Can't wait for the next one tbh.
The cast so far: Lapogne, the Originator Tomjak, the Sculptor ThaRixer, the Cultivator Bdub, the Opportunist Raccoon, the Terminator Yankee, the Daredevil HillaryPuff, the Ripper Goofy, the Intimidator
so, i know im like _almost_ 10 years late to this discussion, but here are some of my thoughts on OOB: there are several layers to developer intention and mainly we have 2 extremes. you can either say that going _around_ areas in a completely unintended way is oob, and going strictly along the path the developer intended is not. alternatively, you can argue that anything within the confines of the rules defined in the game is not oob, but the problem with that perspective is that at that point you might as well be doing any%. i think somewhere more toward the former argument is more "right" for mostly any game, Jak included. but maybe going to that kind of an extreme completely is not right. so a middle ground would be to say: if you start and end in an intended area, then it's _probably not_ oob. this can allow for something like jetboarding into palace ruins or into the metal head cave. when we say this, we are left with that gray area you mentioned. how do you determine what is and isnt ok? that rule is pretty vague. well, here is where i think i will differ from most people: *it doesnt matter.* if its a gray area, just _do it,_ worst-case scenario it gets retroactively declared illegal. there's only really 3 scenarios that can happen. it's either a gray area but ultimately acceptable, it is or ends up being completely off the table, or it is completely acceptable with no strings attached. and, to me, i think those are good prospects for doing a variety of oob shenanigans.
Praying for a day when Rixer will upload a 1h+ video about speedruning a game that he doesn't personally like, but he knows very well about the popularity of it (idk like Sekiro, Dark Souls, GTA)
I know it would've been tricky to set the boundries on this but was it ever a discussion to have the leaderboard split just be any% with the desert skip, and any% without the desert skip, as opposed to any out of bounds being the line drawn?
So what are you doing on Friday? Me? I'm tearing of joy over two complete strangers bonding and becoming best friends after playing a 00's PS2 game on Twitch.
if politicians put 1% of the effort that Kuitar put into his No OoB justification document into their work, we would have world peace
The no OOB manifesto (feat. PS3 Jak)
“If this is OOB, This is Bob”. Peak is officially back on the menu.
"true"
This series deserves so much more recognition, it's so good.
Really happy and mind blown that some of my childhood games i got curious about some months ago have some great videos on them about speed running, love this content, blows my mind how creative some solutions throughout the series are
I agree
Fr
100%
I love all his videos but this series this won well over staid it's welcome
All leaderboard rule debates should be on the beach tbh
Why not have a heated debate in the scorching sun?
A heated discussion about what is and isn't considered out-of-bounds for Jak 3 at the fucking beach is why I adore this community and these videos.
That GDQ section was really moving tbh. I’m glad that your first experience here in the US was super fun and memorable. There’s nothing like being able to play speedgames with the homies in person. It really does hit different. Wonderful video
Debating out of bounds and collisions, instead of swimming on the beach has got to be the most gamer activity ever recorded.
As someone who can be seen for like two frames in that clip, the water was really cold that day lmao (it was cold and windy in general honestly)
I love how headstrong the legend is just casually sitting middle seat at that GDQ
headstrong is a legend to me too :)
I remember skipping class in college just to watch that ADGQ race. So cool going back in time with you during this series. Bruh Im even in chat during the recap stream, lets go.
I also skipped an entire week of school for AGDQ 2016. I got in serious trouble when I got back, but I regret nothing
AGDQ 2016 was absolutely magical, i still rewatch that race from time to time
Huge GDQ for Ratchet UYA as well. I remember hanging out in Xem's chat a few times back in 2014, and then suddenly seeing the run at GDQ and how some 'meme' strats were suddenly viable and standard. Blew me away.
Is this OOB?
NO, this is PATRICK.
This series is beyond amazing and more people need to watch it!
Great visuals, top tier music, the layout and script! Its crazy how well documented Jak 3 speed running is!!
Cant wait for the VII Keep up the amazing work Ricky 🔥
Thanks crescent~
One of my favorite parts of these videos is how you show off the competitive comradery in all the players in the community.
Everyone is trying to win, but everyone wants everyone to win, and get faster, and learn more. It's so awesome
The Duelist of the Roses music takes me back man
You should know I had NO interest in speedrunning until I found your Seaport Strip video and now I'm addicted. Jak was always my favourite game series as a kid.

Mann I love that that this game gets more recognition. We can only hope for a new game but honestly I highly doubt it.
Another banger. Good stuff, man. Love the inclusion of the GDQ race and Slice-of-Life bits. Really shows how much deeper the hobby can be beyond just playing the same game over and over to go faster and faster
Ty usual ♥️
man, so many good memories in this one, AGDQ 2016 was probably my favorite GDQ from a viewer perspective by far
also that beach clip LMAO, cracks me up every time
great video as always ricky 🔥
i've never tried to speed run a game before, but this series makes me want to try for Jak 3 since it's my favorite game series of all time. I'm just very nervous trying something new like this for the first time lol Very overwhelming

I’ve been following this series since the beginning. I don’t run the game but it’s one of my favs to casually play. Thank you for doing this
As an American, thank you for taking the time to come here back in 2016 and introducing Jak 3 speedruns to a new audience. :)

@6:43 omg i havent heard that song in forever, that game was frustraiting!
Also always love your uploads!
Please tell me you're making the "Era" series for other games too, these videos are so good It's insane.
Being up at 4am on a school day when I was only 15, seeing the two most anticipated runs back to back, and watching my first live GDQ, was and still is a high mark in my young life. Seeing the race again brought back so many memories. Thanks Ricky, I can't wait to see the rest of this series.
All the little videos and photos from your trip to AGDQ 2016 remind me of old school conferences so the nostalgia is well conveyed.
Finally.
Was waiting for part 6.
Amazing work man.
Started watching this series ever since the first ERA, the whole thing is just fascinating! Like I have never click on a video faster as soon as I saw the notification! This series makes me want to get back into speedrunning sooooo bad! Thanks for great content my dude! Keen to see what you have in store for the next ERA!
Thanks! Be ready for VII, VIII, and IX. Those are gonna be insane
You and Bob's AGDQ race was my first ever taste of a speedrun - I cannot thank you enough for sharing something so fantastic with us all!
as a bystander who was there at the beach event, i can 100% confirm none of that was scripted. they talked for about 45 minutes before even throwing a frisbee or touching water.
Queen of Spyro!
This 2016 AGDQ run was what got me into speed running! Thank you for getting my favorite game series on the map with this run!
This video series continues to be amazing.

Been waiting for this big ups keep the uploads going ❤
omg this series is so damn good, i love the story and the effort of all of you guys, the community of speedrunners of Jak 3
Another banger, absolutely love it. It's so cool that you guys made such a MASSIVE difference to Jak 3 speedrunning, especially being able to bring so much new attention to the game as a whole at AGDQ. I eagerly await the next part
I watch, i go to the soundtrack pastebin, I add them all to the playlist, I happy

I don't do speedrunning in any games and I don't honestly care too much about them in general, at least not enough to watch speedrun streams. These documents, however, are very interesting. Great entertainment, great commentary. Thank you for creating these Rixer!
This AGDQ was my introduction to speedrunning and to your content Ricky - been enjoying ever since, thanks for the great work and entertainment!!
GDQs have always been a highlight of my year and it's really cool to see that i'm not alone in that. i vaguely remember watching the jak 3 race a long time ago when i first discovered speedrunning and it was a really great run. always excited for this series, great episode
Ty shovel :)
Love the Yu-Gi-Oh soundtrack. I don’t watch anime but I played one of the games on PS2 as a kid.
I just found a picture of young me holding a copy of jak 2. I will join the discord to post that at some point
Never played Jak 3, only the demo. I have the collection on Vita though so soon I will casually play it
Love this series
Its so good to have this series, otherwise the Jak Speedrunning history might have been lost to time!
3:00 killer Megaman X5 track. Rixxy is a man of culture and taste.
Really loving this series ! Sorry if you already answered it, but do you plan to release all parts in one big video once it's finished ?
Thank you! And yes I'll make a massive supercut at the end 😌
Ngl the music selection in your vids, not just this series, is top shelf. Love the vids
Crazy how invested I am in these Jak Speedrun videos. Keep it up !
At the start I was beginning to think no OOB would be some mental gymnastics to just run without desert skip but it's cool to see the run was significantly different from pre desert skip
This is by far the most entertaining series I have ever watched on yt
I love this channel,
Now I see you are also a big Jak 3 fan!!!
Jak 2, Jak 3 and Jak X were so big back then!
Lovely to see all of this
Been watching this series from the beginning and I always look forward to the next episode. Been lurking since the "Jak 3's most polarizing level" video, but I plan to leave more comments to help you in the algorithm.
Bruh, been waiting too long 😭 (take ya time. This shit is QUALITY)
My good sir you will never know how much we love this, truly incredible work sir, fair play
More god tier content, 1 step closer to the humungous super-cut of the whole thing
another awesome video, been loving the whole narrative since the first one. Really makes me want to pick up this game one day. Can't wait for the next one tbh.
The cast so far:
Lapogne, the Originator
Tomjak, the Sculptor
ThaRixer, the Cultivator
Bdub, the Opportunist
Raccoon, the Terminator
Yankee, the Daredevil
HillaryPuff, the Ripper
Goofy, the Intimidator
just yesterday i rewatched all the other parts and now we’re here. jesus was on my side here
so, i know im like _almost_ 10 years late to this discussion, but here are some of my thoughts on OOB:
there are several layers to developer intention and mainly we have 2 extremes. you can either say that going _around_ areas in a completely unintended way is oob, and going strictly along the path the developer intended is not. alternatively, you can argue that anything within the confines of the rules defined in the game is not oob, but the problem with that perspective is that at that point you might as well be doing any%.
i think somewhere more toward the former argument is more "right" for mostly any game, Jak included. but maybe going to that kind of an extreme completely is not right. so a middle ground would be to say: if you start and end in an intended area, then it's _probably not_ oob. this can allow for something like jetboarding into palace ruins or into the metal head cave.

One of my favorite series I've ever watched on UA-cam
I like Bob, such a cool guy. He's my favorite character of this saga right now.
beautiful vid so happy to see more from this series!
Next time I'm watching this is going to be on a beach. 😂
Praying for a day when Rixer will upload a 1h+ video about speedruning a game that he doesn't personally like, but he knows very well about the popularity of it (idk like Sekiro, Dark Souls, GTA)
This is one of the best series on youtube, keep up the great work!
Honey, get the popcorn. Rixer dropped another jak vid
Incredible vid as always, got a bit emotional when seeing you guys hang out, feels :')
This is just like Gorbino's Quest. This is the Gorbino's Quest of conquering Jak 3 - ERA: VI A CLEAN SLATE.
Daaaamn, nice to see you continuing the series, i had forgotten about it.
Stay safe dude
any% No oob is at 27 minutes right now. I'm HYPED for the history of this game! I can't wait to see the next video!
Didnt expect to see mist master in this video at 13:31
Ive enjoyed some of his kingdom hearts runs in the past.
I know it would've been tricky to set the boundries on this but was it ever a discussion to have the leaderboard split just be any% with the desert skip, and any% without the desert skip, as opposed to any out of bounds being the line drawn?
No because a lot of us wanted temple skip absent from the category too.
This series deserves to be more popular
Absolutely loving this series keep it up!
i'm a simple person: i see a new Rixer video, i watch it immediately xD great job as always!!
Yo, always stoked to see a new part of the story! Great job, cant wait for more!
Ty osu :))
Man I remember watching that GDQ race….then the legendary follow up later on
Great work brother. Always love to see your content pop up.
So what are you doing on Friday? Me? I'm tearing of joy over two complete strangers bonding and becoming best friends after playing a 00's PS2 game on Twitch.
It's always a good day when ThaRixer drops a video
Discused tuat UA-cam didn't get this video to me sooner, I've loved the series and have been waiting eagerly for the next.
is that duelist of the roses music?! i was cleaning to this video and that music popped me out of my focus haha. love this series!
This was a banger of a bday gift, cant wait for era vii!
Great storytelling as always, keep up!!!!
BOB THE GOAT BOB THE GOAT
I thought I was trippin when I heard the Yu-Gi-Oh Duelist Of The Roses - Vs The Yorkist soundtrack 😂 I was literally playing it yesterday
That's what I'm talking about. That's why he's the GOAT
Love the R&C music at the start :D
"But you're taking a portal to leave the level right now!"
I am so excited for the PC port of Jak 3 to come out. Jak 2 may be the better game, but Jak 3 is my favorite in the series.
Jak 3 is coming along a lot quicker than I thought, it's sick
Omg banger alert, I'm excited to watch it!
Thx for your work man. You just too good. Take care !
