I made a video about using BlackBerry Classic (Q20) in 2024, It is my first Blackberry device as back in those days I'm a Windows phone fans. I would say just go for the Q20 instead of the Q10 because of the bigger screen (but it's IPS instead of AMOLED) and better keyboard (more function keys like optical trackpad). If Blackberry update the Q10 or Q20 with modern specs, I will buy it in a heartbeat. Straight to the point, great review!

Great video! 🔥I've been toying with the idea of a Unihertz Titan/Pocket/Slim for a while just to get back a QWERTY keyboard, but maybe this could be the answer!
I had a Q10 in the past and loved it. I then had 2 Blackberry Privs and I loved them too though keyboard was not as "ergonomic" and the Battery kept failing after a year or two. Now I have the Key2 (1.5years) and I love it. Possibly the best keyboard yet, battery life is good, no issues yet with anything and all apps bar 2 work. It is on Android 8.1, so some apps are starting to not to update but I am not prepared to ditch my phone just for that. I could not live without a physical keyboard on my phone. I can type so much faster than with other keyboards and it causes so little strain on the eyes compared with having to look at 3 things (some of which flash) when you are typing on another non keyboard phone. We need someone to start making Blackberries again soon!!
Hi Laura. I’ve been using a blackberry curve 9320 as a secondary dumb phone for calls texts downtime, for when I’m not using my phone. Recently it broke. I’ve been looking for used phones now two options i have are an old bold 9780 or a Q10.. I’m confused between the two because I enjoy the retro aesthetic of the older one but the Q10 is definitely in a better shape…
Both are good options. I still have a BlackBerry torch that I love and use here and there. It comes down to which OS you prefer using and which device really speaks to you.
Great video! Thinking about to replace my Xperia X Compact, with something more suitable to stay in contact (messenger, whatsapp, insta mainly), with qwerty keyboard. Thought about the Q10. Would that be a good idea, or should I look for something else?
Unfortunately the Q10 is limited for apps. Whatsapp no longer works. There are APKs for Instagram Lite. The only smaller keyboard device with all these apps is the Unihertz Titan pocket.
@@LauraMalvoyante Thank you for your fast answer! Since the Classic/Q20 has the same HW and SW, so I guess that would have the same limitation for me. Yes, I've heard about it! No used ones around here, and new is a bit out of my budget. :D
@@gtasomogyi yes the Q20 has the same limitation unfortunately. It's unfortunate that the later Android BlackBerry devices are so large. They are an option but the size is not as convenient. I don't like the bulky design of the Unihertz and it is expensive too.
@@LauraMalvoyante Wouldn't be bad, but since those Android versions are as old as on my Xperia X Compact, wouldn't be much better. Priv is just simply too old, SOC is jot better than in my Sony, and Key2's are almost as large, as my secondary phone, S20FE Samsung, so not too pocket friendly. 😩 Nokia's are rather obsolet too, sadly, was a huge Symbian fan... 😆
I'm curious, can you expand on the idea that AMOLED screens are better than LCD for someone with visual impairment? I would expect the perfect contrast true black being as being the reason, but you speak about LCD being harsh which I don't really understand. Also, the first few generations of AMOLED display were really bad in sunlight and the effective display density is actually lower than the PPI on the spec sheet because of the PenTile sub-pixel arrangement which was really noticeable back then. But again, I don't have visual impairment (well, I have myopia but we don't use phones at 1 meter of your eyes lol) so I have no idea how this affect you.
The AMOLED has blacker blacks than the LCD screens. I don’t have good color vision and I’m legally blind so the more black on my screen the better the contrast to read. The LCD screens hurt my eyes more since the contrast isn’t high enough and I can’t differentiate the menus as easily. Luckily I have e-ink for more of my reading needs to really prevent eye straining.
I usually only go places I’ve been before. If I absolutely need google maps I will take my Google pixel with me that day. But most times I can check the route before I leave and I’m good to go.
I bought a busted BlackBerry Passport off of eBay for $39 and replaced the screen, keyboard, battery and LCD. None of those items were usable and looked like they went to some war. Even a couple keys were missing. I reused the main board, speakers and mics. As a result it looks brand spanking new. All the parts only cost me $45 so the phone cost me around $85. I had one brand new years ago but I was POOR and had to sell it to fix my car at the time, lol. Glad to have it back. I use it every now and then. I truly miss BB10. People always gawk at it whenever I take it out and about. I even recently got Google Maps working on it.
