Fished the upper section this weekend - used the 8.6 ft 4 wt suspension on mono line. Worked really well under the banks and bushes. Cracking little beat. Cheers Andy.
I drove home an got a bottle of wine for a treat and hoped to watch some good fishing videos, I saw an andy and IB video upload and it made my day. Great video as always. I'm sending my best wishes to IB to get better. All the best to you both!
Ha! Fished that section for several years, caught 100's of grayling, best 1lb 9oz. Bait fish it over winter, but fly rod might come out next time - looked fun (not the falling in). Welcome to the club!
Ha, ha, nice to see you are a mere mortal at least when it comes to wading! I fall in all the time myself - we have very rocky boldery bottoms with not much gravel. Even with studs a poorly placed foot will result in a swim. I have to say I am very impressed with the amount of fish you pulled out of a new stream. It takes me a while to learn a new piece of water, but I'm definitely learning a thing or two about how to find fish, and then applying the correct tactic for then catching them from your videos. All the best to IB and I hope she feels better soon. I'm looking forward to seeing her in the next video.
First time Iv watched a video where I know all the pools your fishing like the back of my hand haha. It’s a fantastic stretch mate and your absolutely write there are some really big fish in there. Sight fishing with single nymphs or dries will get them through the summer when river becomes gin clear. Great video and hopefully see you on some more of our waters.
I am a subscriber and fellow derbyshire fisherman. Welcome back and big hug to IB. The video quality seems even better than usual. And yes it has been difficult grayling wise so far.
What a treat for this to come up on my feed. I wish so much I had some water like this two minutes from my house! I need to get a trip to Derbyshire in the diary. I also need a grayling bobble hat. Cheers
Great to see you back Andy. I personally would have used my little 7.5 foot 3 weight, indicator optional. It has been my experience that it is a lot easier to maneuver in such tight brushy quarters with a short rod. Less accidental engagement with the trees and foliage. I would probably have opted for only 2 or even a single fly on the end of the tippet in keeping with the KISS philosophy. Non the less you certainly weaseled a good number of fish with your 10-foot euro system. I suspect that was due to your own skill level as much as the setup.
Great video Andy, I have had some great sport on small stream grayling this autumn in northern North Yorkshire. It has been hard work, the fish have tended to be in tight pods in the pools with fast but deep water so it has taken a while to locate them. When I have found them, I have been able to tease out 6 - 7 fish out in short order. Also, there have been loads of OOS brownies around as well.
I fish in northern North Yorkshire too, like yours my season has been ok so far too. Although I’m still not finding any in the ‘really deep’ parts yet.
@@IBandAndyFishing cannot wait to hear your opinion on it, I think its right up there at the top of the mid range rods. 8ft #4, 9ft #6 and 10ft #3 bought so far with the matching hero reels which are well worth a look at. Vision are producing some stunning tackle and clothing just now, my fav brand by a mile.
Great to have you back, some lovely fish. Looking forward to seeing more from you and IB. Your time away did show a tad, perhaps slow things down a little? 🙂🎣
How do you tie your pink shrimp? I’ve been tying mine using pink ostrich and it comes out really nice. I’ve fallen more times than I care to remember. I always bring a change of clothes just in case.
Good to see you back, Andy. Nice vid, as usual. Thought you made the right choice to go euro-style, but the long rod seemed to be more of a hindrance than a help. Maybe a 9 footer would have been enough on that small stream? Anyway, I noticed you were using the Vision Hero rod... are you planning on doing a review? I'd be super interested to hear your thoughts, especially in comparison to the Nymphmaniac. Cheers, and all the best! 😊👍🏻
There will definitely be a review yes, keep an eye out for that. I don't have a 9' rod suitable but yes at times the 10 was a bit cumbersome, no doubt!
For those of us grayling fishing on the chalk streams in Hampshire and only allowed one fly or a NZ hopper dropper rig what do you advise? Thanks for the great content.
A can't help thinking that rod was tad long for that little stream. I think I'd of had the tip broken on a tree if it were me. I'd have fished the same, but with a shorter rod. There again I'm not a great fan of duo/indicter fishing. I may have even given a micro-lure a swim.
Andy. Great to see you out again and posting the videos. Always excellent and you remain a fishing god. .. Hope IB is on the mend. I’m up on the Dove next week for Grayling...with any luck will bump into you. You both take care. J
Hi Andy. The tributary I fish looks identical to this river. Last year was my first year fly fishing. I used a strike indicator as it was easier for me just starting out. Eventually I’ve moved on from strike indicators in favour of European style or tight line nymphing. I personally think my catch rate has gone up since. However I’m finding I seem to snag up a lot more frequently. I guess that’s because I’m always on the bottom of the river bed with that style of fishing. I’d say stick with what your doing it seems to work. As for my grayling season… well I have to say its been 100 times better than it was same time last year. I’d rather the rivers be clear and low than high, coloured and just generally unfishable like they where about a year ago. And finally, the big one you look for… well in rivers like that they are a rarity. You have to really put the time in to find the big ones hiding spots. Sometimes it’s just luck. On my last trip out I caught a (what would be considered a specimen) 2lb-er in water I thought might not hold too much of anything. I certainly didn’t expect one of that size. Never discount shallower parts of the river in small rivers like these. You just never know what could be lurking in them. Good luck and tight lines.

Really good instructional video. Lots of great tips, it’s got the juices flowing for me to get out. Love the hat too 😃

Nothing like making it look easy hey! 😂
Lovely session there Andy 👍
Great to see ya back out there!!

Thanks dave, that's really kind!
Hi Euro nymphed fished the river Tamar in Cornwall last Thursday. Managed one small Grayling but certain I missed two takes.
It's not easy out there at the moment, you're getting takes, that's the main thing!
Good to see this new video, love the location, and fish. More inline with my club stream. this was the reason for the 6' #2 purchase - great fun BTW.
I can't wait to have a play with a shorter rod on this place in the trout season, I'll be ordering something along those lines!
@@IBandAndyFishing must try a fresh leader on it as you were, could work I guess.

I've subscribed fly fishing for grayling 🍻
Nice one

It'll take something to get us to retire Graham!

That was an awesome vid bud sad season is done here but I get t next year for now I will be watching you and opening up some MTBs on Christmas 🎄
Thanks bud, really appreciate it!
Oooooh I see you're using the vision hero! Just bought three of them, stunning rods for a good price, hope you're going to do a review on it soon ?
Definitely going to make a review of this rod soon 👍

Could you catch grayling on lures?! Love grayling .. would love to catch one .. subscribed btw.. thanks for vids

That sounds like a lovely fly Dale! I didn't think I'd need a change of clothing on this place 🙈😂
we've all done it Andy ... just most of us don't do it on camera ... still you've cheered IB up I bet 🤣

If you can only use one fly could you use an indicator? Suspension nymphing is often the way to go if you can't wade 👍
Have you thought of using a minnow trap ?
No out of season trout this time.
We try our best to avoid them Gary 👍
We're doing our best bud, trying to get out a bit more!
