    A lovely watch there Andy. I don’t know anything about fly fishing but often watch Robbie from Australia. He will lure, fly and bait fish for trout in tiny rivers. He often does well on a falling river and he believes it’s due to all the bait (mostly worms) that have been washed in to the system. To be fair his skinny waters are tiny in comparison but I’m sure the same rules would apply? It was nice seeing the drone footage of the fields too where you can see a definitive wash line. Do you ever get fish stranded in the fields?

    • @IBandAndyFishing
      @IBandAndyFishing  Рік тому +1

      We do, yes, the landowner here had rescued a few over the years! Definitely a good time to get on the rivers, as they're dropping and clearing after a good flush through - this one was a bit more than that though 🙈😂

    Really great video Andy.
    I think I know the stretch you fished. Just what I needed to see after having watched the gauges at Mayfield and Doverage (plus the Churnet, which seems to dump a lot of extra water and colour into the river below Rocester) for the past two and a bit weeks with a extremely glum face.
    There was, I thought, no way that the river would be in any sort of condition to fish effectively during that time. I felt here would be spots along the Staffordshire bank where I could get in and wade but glimpses of the Dove as it passes below the A38 and from Tutbury bridge convinced me there was no point trying.
    To be honest I would have said it was just about ok for trotting.
    How wrong I was it seems.
    Fantastic to see you work the river, manipulate the rod and leader, listen to you explain your thinking and fly choices.
    I sorted my kit late Sunday ready to go this Monday. Guess what!
    Rain last night and the river has spiked again!
    I'll have to wait but not as long this time.
    Keep the videos coming.

    • @IBandAndyFishing
      @IBandAndyFishing  Рік тому +1

      The churnet makes a huge difference, for me the churnet is the start of the lower river. It's always coloured water coming from the churnet.
      I find anything below 0.45 on the rocester gauge is fishable but not comfortable, below 0.38 is a bit more easy going!

    • @garybissell8449
      @garybissell8449 Рік тому

      I fish the churnet at Alton and I like it around 450 to 500 I always seem to do OK but it colours up very quickly after a bit of rain which I hate as it's a fair track for me. That's fishing though. Love the video m8 👏👏

      If you don’t mind me asking Andy what did the Rocester gauge read the day you went?
      For myself I’m looking for 0.55( steady or falling) for Mayfield ( there are quite a few nasty rocks scattered around that can make life difficult for me if it’s too coloured.
      I’d be looking for 0.7 (steady or falling ) for Doverage. The bottom is much cleaner on this stretch. This would be at any time of the year given that for particular heights the flow can feel very different when in the river. I’d look for 0.8 for Doverage to feel happy about getting across the river at our chosen crossing points.

    I honestly think EA need to rethink the trout and migratory fish open and close dates. The migratory fish are turning up later every year and people are catching sea trout when going for salmon into December. The brownies are definitely not spawning yet and the last couple of times I've gone for grayling it's felt like I should be fishing a duo for trout, except for the date.

    • @IBandAndyFishing
      @IBandAndyFishing  Рік тому +2

      I can't speak for the whole country, but certainly around here, the trout never spawn in October. Our season could end a month later than it does. Likewise, they're rarely spawning past January. That said, I don't fancy trout fishing in February 🙈😂

    • @marklamude2355
      @marklamude2355 Рік тому +1

      I think if the seasons are partly based on restrictions for keeping fish to eat, then the season could easily end on November 1st with no problems, I don’t know anyone who actually takes fish anymore anyway, it’s barbless catch and release everywhere so like Andy says they aren’t spawning till later for sure, can only think it’s tied to the shooting season which does have significance on the rivers I fish, but most of them are open for Grayling anyway, so it’s ok to get shot if your grayling fishing lol😂
