I am using a thinner yarn than I am use to and found that this pattern appeared a bit too small for the lap blanket I am creating. I increased the pattern to 2X the given instructions for stitches but not numbers of lines. It turned out nicely. I love this pattern and can't wait to see it in my blanket.
Nice video! =oD I just knit a cowl and incorporated the Saxony Braid pattern into my design..it is a gorgeous pattern, and adds loads of impact to your design...easier to knit than it looks too!
If I'm incorporating this into either side of the front of a t-shirt, how many stitches should I increase per row to incorporate for loss of width from cabling?
Question, to those of you who have used this pattern: If I want to repeat it over and over, can I add "Row 16: Knit the knits, Purl the purls" then go back to Row 1 and start over?

The cable by itself is 24 sts. You will want to add a reverse stockinette background so your cable will pop. Depending on how big you want this, add 5 to 10 sts on either side of your cable.

Hey So I was wondering if I wanted to make this pattern but much bigger two times bigger, so would. Would I increase each k and P by two? Would like this to be the center of my king size blanket ?
You can start from the first row. Sometimes it's hard to work k2tog or cables at the beginning, so your first row can be your "setup row". For this pattern you could just do a purl row to work the first row. Or you could, (this being the wrong side) knit your reverse stockinette stitches and purl all the knit stitches you will be using for the cable. Make sense?
this is beautiful! is it possible to do this on a loom? I have pins in my hand so using actual knitting needles is extremely difficult for me. However, looms are pretty easy for me and I would love to be able to do this.
David Crawford ...I would imagine this could be knit on a loom pretty easily (but I have not tried it).. you should be able to just cross the stitches on the adjacent pins of your loom. Swapping pins to the front or back would depend on which direction the cable lies, on top of the stitches, or behind..to the front or to the back. Hope this made sense. A solid understanding of how a cable is formed will help immensely...I think if you could make a pair of pick tools, with two picks spaced the same distance as your pin spacing, it would make picking the stitches off the pins to cross them easier/quicker..
I have a question am hoping you can answer. I am trying do this pattern on a baby blanket I am making for my unborn child since I cant find anyone to make this at a reasonable price. OH and FYI I have never knitted before but I am teaching myself with this youtube videos. What I want to know is, How do I make a blanket crib length and width when only so many loops can fit on a needle. Do it just ensure they are loose enough to slid off as I continue to knit? My Aunt used to make all the baby blankets, but she just passed away a month before I found out I was pregnant. I would appreciate any help you can provide me as I am wanting to make a blanket for my soon to come daughter with Celtic knots running down it. Thank you in advance.
+14Erin88 Miller To hold more stitches on your needles, use a cable needle. It's the needles with the cord in between, connecting the needles together. That's the best way to accommodate for more stitches.

I've given it 3 tries and it was harder than I thought it would be. It looked terrible each time, even my husband laughed. I will get it eventually!
You will. It's a little tricky with all the cables and it being a little tight.
I am happy to report I got it last night and it's slowly getting easier! :-D

Hey, C.L. Row 4 and all even rows are worked like Row 2. You knit all knit sts and purl all purl sts. That's why it's not shown in the video.

You could always add two cables. They should "blend" together within the pattern.

How did you start the braid? Did you knit a row then begin? Since the video started in the middle of the braid i was unsure.

Reverse stockinette is when you purl on the front of your work and knit the on the back. Having the purl bumps on the front.
