I have to thank you. This tutorial gave me the tools to create this amazing braid without the use of a written pattern. You made something that looks so complicated, easy to understand and recreate. Keep up the good work.
Just a few observations. I was fascinated at how you explained this with no pattern. I think watching will make me a better knitter. Thank you! I'm trying to not rely so much on patterns. Also interested in how you switch between throwing and continental knitting based on what was easier at the time. I've been watching technique videos on the Portuguese style of knitting. It's just interesting to me how differently we can knit to reach the same end. Keep up the good work and thanks for all the videos!
What a gorgeous braid!!! When I saw this I was horrified by the amount of steps that I thought it would require. But your breakdown took all my fear away. The green marker drawing was a great idea and helped me visual what to do. Great job as usual Ryan.
Thank you so much for this wonderful tutorial! For those who just begin to knit I have to say the lesson I learn from my past messy knitting is sticking with basic knitting and purling and DON’T try to fast knit! That way your stitch would be much smoother and prettier.
01.01.2022 🎶Greetings from France. HAPPY NEW YEAR. A big wowwwzy 😍 congratulations 🏆. A dream come true 💖. Exactly what I was dreaming of but was terrified at the mere look of it. You are a BLESSING to me. Being 70 years I never imagined I could knit such a complicated scarf. WRONG, you broke it down into so many steps and the X's were a great help. I knitted the most simple 🤣two braid scarf and admired the results. Got truly addicted and am on this project. Words aren't enough to say THANK YOU. A big hug and thanks for sharing and making me smile👍👍👍😍😍😍
I really Thank you to make this video about Cable knitting, which is not so easy... but you made it to be easier to understand how to do and where to begin the Cable knitting pattern (Saxson Braid) in the work. So BIG Thanks to you! This helped me a lot.
Great Job RJ, I enjoyed your video demo, I have watched a ton of sock tutorial and real soon now I will join so many of you who have jumped out there and jumped over sock making terror. Great Job, thank you every bit helps.
Hi, I hope it's ok to comment but I noticed straight away when you started knitting you were creating a long piece of wool between you needles, this is usually caused because the stitches were cast on by finger casting. If you want to avoid this might I suggest you start casting on with just one knotted loop as you would normally on the left needle, but then put the right needle through that loop, as if you were doing a normal knit stitch but instead of casting it off, you add it back onto the left needle again in front of the first original stitch on the left needle and repeat this process of taking the first stitch, knitting it and then instead of casting if off, add it back onto the left needle until you have the desired number of stitches, you will no longer get a loop of wool forming between the needles.
Thanks for this. It really simplified the process. Having drawn celtic knots I would recomend cabling all 3 crosses over the same way for your foundation cables and on the second row keep both cables going in the same direction but in the opposite direction to the foundation cable. (ie, foundation all 3 cable l/r; second 2 crosez r/l; then back to l/r for central cross) Hope this is helpful...? 😕?.?..?
Your purls look very complicated 🤯🤯🤯 and I've never seen such a big strand gap between the needles while knitting 😜 but I did like your explanation of the cable "architecture" 👍
Charlotte Hansen Hi Charlotte. I'm horrible at written patterns, but I've seen a few around online that are pretty helpful. Brynne Sutton actually has a good one here: knitty.com/ISSUEfall05/PATTsamus.html Looks like her's is more for a sweater type situation, but the basic steps for the Saxon braid are there. Good luck!
hi I'm from Puerto Rico and I like a patter and it's cable shoulder back warmer scarf sweater how can I make this one I have the pattern but I don't know how to make it can you please make a video of this sweater
I love the way your videos are presented but Lord does Americans knitting mess with my head. Are you is what is often referred to as the continental method, And for me at least it allows me to knit much faster As well as limit the amount of movement required to perform each step. My working yarn is always in my left hand therefore I only need to partially move a finger or thumb just a fraction of an inch to complete any of the stitches. Your videos are awesome. I just have to figure out how to see what you are doing from my point of view. 😋

THANKYOU SO MUCH! Because of your clear instructions ive created a beautiful scarf in this pattern, being my first time ever doing cables!
Thank you for your sequence (3-2-1-2-3-2-1). You just brought my Saxon Braid up from the dead. And yes! I just genuflected!!!!

I like how you break down the pattern/stitch/cable. It makes it easier to understand, especially for a beginner like myself.

Thanks very much for your Xs. I used to skip these terrified braids. From now on, I will look for Xs in braid patterns.

May I ask a question, you do beautiful tutorials, do I do 32 +32+32+32 for a blanket and how many do I add to space the cables? For a blanket
Right off the bat I was confused by the way you do a purl stitch.
