Walmart's Self-Checkouts Get WORSE, Paying Customer Ends Up in Prison

- The humble self-checkout lane, those kiosks that give customers the employee experience, you know, sans paycheck. Since we last discussed this subject back in March, these machines have continued to evolve not to meet the demands of customers.

I was using self-checkout at Walmart once and an item wouldn’t scan, so I asked for employee assistance. He came over and manually entered the item number and I thanked him. He then said “make sure you pay for your items” with a smirk on his face and walked a few feet away, but stared at me as I finished my checkout. If I was trying to steal, then why would I ask for an employee to help? 🤯 The real kicker is that as he was watching me, an actual thief was walking out of the store and alarms went off and she ran and got away! 🤣 Way to go Walmart! 🥴
If any employee would have said that to me, I would've straight walked out leaving everything behind
The checker stole 2/ 4 of my bags after seeing where I lived on my I D. and told me to " watch out for a rock to your head". Klamath falls Oregon.
Fun fact about Walmart (at least mines was a chilled location in the hood) According to the Policy and CBL, "Associates can ONLY conduct a receipt check for u bagged items and they are supposed to scan the receipt and the item. If all items are bagged up no receipt check is necessary. If a costumer declines a receipt check, your not allowed to force the costumer. If you are unsure, please see your supervisor"
@@AshTheNimbat That doesn't make sense. Are you sure you typed it up correctly?
@@susuileamura 1) would HAVE, not "would of".
2) A better action would be to complain to the store manager.
Something annoyed me about the one case where a woman spent 6 hours in jail, THEN Walmart reviewed the camera footage, THEN they dropped the charges. Could they not review the cameras first before pressing charges?
So the process is that the security person conducts an investigation, uploads it to Walmarts data base so corporate can review and gives it to police and police reviews it , corporate doesn’t always review it within the 6hrs of upload
@@Battle-Bunn1e so why am I being charged if you haven't even reviewed the evidence?
@@antoinejackson4311 so typically when the police arrive to the store they’re supposed to review the footage with the AP personnel. Once the police see it it’s up to them to move forward.
I'd sue them!
The arrest was to pressure her into paying Walmart.
They come up with crazy fees to cover lost profits.
I refuse to set foot in a Walmart.
So if an item doesn’t scan or you make an honest mistake, Walmart has the power to put you in jail for a $5.00 item. Live cashiers also make “mistakes” and charge you more than what an item costs. Do we have the same power to sue Walmart for millions of dollars if they are charging us for a product with the wrong price?
and also those ai theft detectors that ring up innocent people. sure they don’t need to sleep or have a “coffee break” but real human minds don’t glitch and make the type of errors the way computers do. just wild a computer might be able to imprison somebody
There are cameras, the cashier will be held responsible, unlike the self-checkout it'
No that is a wild over simplification. They MIGHT stop you if they think you took 1 or even 2 items. But if police are involved, then you have FOR SURE been caught stealing thousands worth of items. Even if it is 1 or 2 items here and there.
they aren't calling police over "one little mistake "
You don’t get jail time over something so simple, if it’s under a certain dollar amount you would just get a fine. They also check and verify the cameras- so they would know it was intentional.
They don't have a wrong price. They get to make up any price. Ensure you can Sue Walmart if you want to. But they have a lot more money than you. So they will run you dry through court process but sure go ahead if you want to.
Walmart has ripped me off a few times, but they think it's OK for them to rip off the customer, but the customer better not rip them off. They're making a bad rep for themselves. Everyone needs to start boycotting them.
Exactly right! Walmart is no longer a good place to shop!
Walmart sucks
@@stevenkelly8561 I haven't shopped there in years.
If they rip you off who is it that you are going to press criminal charges against?
You're a thief. Your mindset is that of a thief. You think it would be ok to rip walmart off because maybe they've ripped you off before. Two wrongs still equal wrong.
I was a weekly Walmart shopper, but that stopped when they got rid of all of the cashiers and I was forced to self-checkout an overflowing cart of groceries. They only give you around 18" of space to bag your stuff so you are forced to place the bags back in the still full cart. It is a huge hassle to keep everything straight. The attendant would stare me down (but not help me or give me a solution). The machine would malfunction. The last straw came when I was already tired from shopping their massive store. I then had to self-checkout (no cashiers) while being stared down. Now I'm frustrated and crabby and feel like a criminal despite not doing anything illegal. As I am going out the door I am stopped and they check my entire cart against my receipt! Guess what, I had paid for everything. Of course, no apology. I'm giving them my money, doing their job, and they treat me like I'm a criminal? No thanks, Walmart. I now shop elsewhere unless there is no other option and mostly go to Aldi. Cheaper prices, smaller store (so I'm not tired), super fast checkers, and a huge counter to bag my groceries. They even ask me how I'm doing and give me a smile. They seem happy to have my business.
ALDI is great & hassle free!
I force stores that only have self check out to ring me up. At Target and Home Depot, which only have self check out, I go to customer service and make them ring me up. My Walmart usually has cashiers but on the one occasion they didn't I told them they had 3 choices 1. Get me a cashier, 2. I'll make customer service do it or 3. I can leave my 2 shopping carts right here in the middle of the floor and walk out leaving you to put it all back. I got my cashier.
SOME ALDI'S STORES HAVE SELF CHECK. THEY ALSO HAVE A CHECKER'S FOR US OLDER PEOPLE THAT WILL NOT USE SELF CHECK
@@angelalucarelli649 Where do you live? No Home Depot I've seen in three states has only self-checkout, and I go there frequently for my carving supplies.
The two closest Aldi’s to me have put in mostly self checkouts :(
I was recently falsely arrested for theft through Walmarts self check out . And I wasn't even at Walmart. So between Walmarts security system and the local police they put an entirely fabricated case together & I had to fight in court to prove that I wasn't even there. Something needs to be done about this!!

@@toensingjeanette7459yes. This may be the only way to check some of this foolishness. It used to be a serious thing for a store to accuse someone of theft. They used to be worried about getting sued. I wonder which traitor government people made it easier on stores to recklessly accuse.

I was totally humiliated at a neighborhood Walmart. The cashier rung up my tissue 3 times, however I never checked or knew it until I got home. I only bought one PKG. Had my receipt, took it to customer service but I was ridiculed by the cashier for not reading the receipt before I left the store. My response was I used to work for Walmart so I trusted them, wrong answer. Stood there for forty minutes while they checked the camera an found out that I was right an then the nice attitude comes into play. Sam's Walmart left the day he died.
Our local Walmart is notorious for scanning items multiple times. I have a theory that Walmart trains them to so they can make more money because the ceos of Walmart are really greedy people. One time multiple items were scanned when my husband shopped and when I saw the receipt it was almost 70 dollars worth of groceries we didn't get. My husband isn't allowed to shop groceries at any Walmart anymore.
so sadly true
We check our receipt each and every time we check out, cashier lines ONLY for us. There has been a few times where we went straight to the service desk to have their error corrected, but their cashiers never get "corrected" for making these mistakes ("stealing" from a customer) we also look closely to see if they've added to the bill any amount listed as cash back or change, we don't do cash back
Talk to family, friends, colleagues... Stop buying from them. The BudLight treatment. Give private neighborhood businesses a chance, that's how you help the community.
Where you not paying attention?
There used to be a clerk at my local Walmart who demanded to see everyone’s receipt. Here’s how I handled it… I always rely on a human to ring up the order. Then I randomly place the receipt in one of the bags. When I approach the clerk demanding the receipt I ask if I am suspected of being a thief. Usually they get defensive and say oh no, or it’s just our policy. Then I’ll tell them that the receipt is in one of the bags. They’ll need to find the receipt and go through the bags since they’re the ones who demand to look at it. This usually frustrates them and they sometimes demand that I provide the receipt. I hold strong and tell them no, because they’re the one who is inconveniencing me, so it’s only fair I inconvenience them. They already answered that they didn’t think I was a thief, so the statement already diminished their probable cause. After a few trips they recognize me and don’t bother because they’re don’t want to look for the receipt in the bags. I find it rather amusing that I was able to turn the tables on them and make them annoyed instead of me…
I think that is fair.... I'll remember that next time, I'm forced to self scan.... 😂
They want us, as non professional cashiers, do their job, and blame us we didn't do it to their satisfaction?
& don't even give us the choice on if we want to use them or not, because only 2-4 cashiers are working at any given time.
@@LikaLaruku Those 2 -4 cashiers aren't cashiering, they are watching you self check out. Nobody is scanning the items but customers.
I always say we should get paid for doing the checkout ourselves, if it take us 5 minutes give us 5 minutes worth of entry pay for doing so
@@Metqa that’s the crazy part the four people they have watching, if they would just take out the self check out and put them in lines It would move faster.

So I used to work at this one target…
2 weeks ago I picked up my meds at target pharmacy, paid and put it in my reusable bag.
I continued shopping when one of my old coworkers came up to me and whispered “hey, AP thinks youre stealing”
I asked why and he said they wanna check my bag since it’s bulky.
I took out my meds(it was for depression , anxiety, snc adhd) and held them up to the camera and started saying “IM NOT STEALING, JUST MENTALLY ILL”
Before Target went completely off the rails with their rainbow nonsense I shopped there pretty regularly. Once an employee asked me about my backpack and I said they could totally search it if they gave me $100 for my time, otherwise please get out of my way. No search.

I've been using Walmarts online grocery delivery service for a couple of years now. And in that time there have probably been 10 or more incidents where they forgot to give me an item that I ordered and paid for. I wonder if I can have them arrested?! 😏😂
Did it ever occur that maybe it was bagged and the delivery person or other employee took the item?
So yes your question is valid.
You should 😂
@@surfersilver6610I don't think we should be casting that shadow on hard working delivery workers. They're already likely not properly compensated by Walmart. It's more likely that overworked and underpaid employees are being rushed like they work in a fast food joint while trying to pack our orders. Also, my stuff is always delivered sealed from the store. They've made mistakes and mixed my orders up, the store that is, as my name is always printed on the sealed bag, and when I call they could care a less about the free stuff I got and who it needs to be returned to, despite my repeated asking of how we are going to get it to the rightful owner! They simply tell me to keep it and have someone drop off my actual paid for items the next day. Theft my rear end, more like complete incompetence and laziness/cheapness of Walmart themselves, not wanting to pay to have the wrong merchandise picked back up and taken to the right person. And yet they want to treat good customers who go into their stores like they're criminals. That is exactly why I only use online shopping for the city stores.
I'd also like to add that all of my delivery people have been hard working and fantastic! They always strive to make sure my items are safe and properly placed in our package area.
Same here, with delivery I will never go back in-store again. Fortunately I haven't had a lot of issues, maybe a tomato or can of soup on occasion, but the biggest problem I have is the low stock. Every single order I've had always has a large amount of replacements or out of stock items. It's always a craps-shoot whether I'm gonna get my whole order. Whomever works there as their purchaser is horrible at their job.
Exactly.

As a former Walmart employee... Walmart and I know for a Fact that 70% of their Loss is from Employees!! They made that clear.
Mislabeling, mispricing, misplacing items and out right theft ... So basically...they are 'attacking' the customers because of the employees.
I think it came out recently that the 50% loss they quoted as being due to shoplifting/organized shoplifting was actually a 5%
I installed Walmart app and I scan the barcode and get the exact price on the app. Otherwise all their price stickers are so wrong, I could not decide should I buy the item or not.
There are times I see the price of item at shelf and thought it’s cheap, but when I scanned it at the machine it’s much pricey. Since I already got the item in cart I just continue paying for it.
I stayed in Montreal for two months, they (city? province?) have a law that if the scanned price is higher than displayed price, you get the item for free. OTH, I live in a small town and use bicycle for shopping (so my shopping cart is never very full), I almost always use self-checkout and it is pleasant, help fairly prompt if you have a problem, and FULL DIGNITY. After all, security measures cost money, so stores do not use them when the risk is low.
@@winterhusky404 companies are using the media hype to claim retail fraud when actual losses are in the 5% range and this justifies price increases that the consumer think is caused by gangs of thieves
Employee theft by walmart statistics is 25 to 28 % so you don't know anything for a fact.
In Sweden, our big grocery stores often have self-scanners. Hand-held devices that you bring with you into the store, scanning items as you pick them up and put them in your bags. When you check out, it will sometimes randomly flag you for an employee to check your items. They either scan a few, or all your items. Should a non-scanned item turn up, they automatically get added to the cart when checked, and you get flagged for more frequent checks. This way, if you commonly "miss" items, only THEN would you get any repercussions. If you clear your next checks, the system removes the flag. It's incredibly effective, and while some stuff does slip through, it does discourage people from stealing.
Same here in Denmark.

They need to just hire a lot of employees to walk around the store pretending to shop an watching out for thieves.
I talked with a worker at Biglots, He said gangs of people come in and steal a whole shelf of laundry soap. They walk out with it and corporate says don't do anything or they could get sued. So now they just lock everything else up because of defunding the police there's no one to arrest The Gangs of retail robbers. In the meantime the retail Shoppers pay for the theft in higher prices because liberal Lefty governments refused to allow the police to do their job.
Add to that employees that get off on being suspicious or opinionated. An excuse to enjoy mistreating shoppers
Thieves run in, take loads of stuff and are allowed to run out with their loot. No one stops them.
But, an innocent person gets humiliated and/or arrested?!
Makes no sense.
Arrest the real thieves.
They catch a few but cannot catch them all, and the thieves are usually juveniles who know they'll get off as minors. A gang (I call it a rave) is willing to take the chance since they'll all flood in and most of them will escape being grabbed.
They are grabbing the Low Hanging fruit.
Yes, let them arrest u.
It's because they have a distain for the people, they treat the people as guilty until proven innocent. And the people keep tolerating this.
the problem isn't totally that the real thieves are not being arrested, it's that they are not being PROSECUTED in many large cities.
What a wild topic, I remember working at many stores with managers who constantly thought all their hired staff were worthless thieves. Now they're just applying all the same garbage to the customers directly. Amazing that retailers have actually found a way to treat the customers even worse than they had before.
Well said 💯
Not very believable.
Years ago, I had a basket full of groceries when I checked out. When I got to my car, I discovered that the cashier and I had completely missed the huge pack of toilet tissue on the shelf under the basket. I immediately went back into the store with the tissue and explained what happened. No problem at all.. Today, I will wait in line however long it takes because I refuse to use self-checkout. I refuse to shop, scan, bag, and pay full price for items I'll have to put away at home.
The irony is that management don’t mind stealing from everyone else.
Exactly!! All stores have license to steal to you !
Will they also run after you if they noticed that you scanned an item two times and payed too much?
@qq84 Self checkout is too risky. I feel like it's a setup to arrest you if you mess up and an item doesn't scan. I don't need that preventative stress in my life.
EXACTLY !
Watch your meat packages. They will be labeled 2.75 pounds and actually weigh 2.1 for example. They steal a little with each package sold. Walmart has been caught doing that many times. Would be fun to bring an auditor along one day to spot check them.
Arrest the manager on the spot, take him to jail and say "tell it to the judge".
Something I learned in my marketing class is if an item is too hard to obtain (doesn't have a price, is on a shelf too high, ect.) customers will just do without. They're probably losing way more money than they realize by locking stuff up.
As someone that works at a Walmart, no, we are not. The amount of stolen items I have found is staggering. Items are locked up because it is either that or we stop selling them.
Yeah there is nothing I’d wait 40+ minutes for at a Walmart unless it was a high priced electronic. And that I’m more than likely not buying at Walmart
Marketing is not a good trade to get into. Neither is advertizing. Neither is being a bill collector or an IRS agent. All are equally frowned upon by most folks. Just saying.
This part. I stopped buying locked up items at local stores, easier to buy online and have it delivered to my door. Even if it costs a buck or 2 more it's better than waiting the up to 40mins I have had to wait for an item to be unlocked in store. I am usually on limited time in the store & most of my local stores are short staffed as is. so waiting that long to get just 1 item only to wait in line for sometimes 20-40mins because there is only 1 checkout open and a store full of people. Not worth it.
No but really if I go into the store for refills on my razor and have to wait for one of the two people working in the whole CVS to come I won’t buy those I’ll buy the unlocked disposables.
Notice how if you make a mistake and "steal" something... it's a criminal case and you need to go to jail, court, and pay fines. If Walmart overcharges you for something or doesn't give you what you paid for... well... that's a civil matter that can be resolved amicably.
That's because historically theft was an intent crime, they have to prove malicious intent for there to be an actual crime. What Walmart wants is a double standard, that any errors during checkout on the part of their cashiers should be treated as an intent crime, but any errors on the part of the customer be treated as a strict liability crime.
Almost every item I buy at Walmart has the price mislabeled. The only things that consistently ring up as they are marked is stuff from their bakery.
Pin the blame on the last PURCHASE at the store. Are they intellectually deficient? And the ‘justice’ system are fools for listening to them on ZERO evidence. I’d talk to a lawyer about during for damages if they did that to me. Good thing I stopped going to Walmart after the last clusterfuck the checkout experience, with homeless looking people demand my receipt in a very rude way for a 3 item purchase
@@jonathansmith4968there is no such thing as liability crime. What is the definition of liability crime.

4 years ago I got a new job that required steel toe shoes, so I went to Walmart. I bought the shoes, socks, 2 pair of blue jeans and 2 shirts; about $62 total I guessed. The clerk at the checkout took the shoes for the 1st item and opened the box; she explained in great detail how people steal things in boxes. I was very amazed at her inquiry and asked for more details. She talked about: 2 left shoes happen if people only want that, different size shoes, missing shoe strings, cell phones and other things that were not shoes in the shoe box. I was totally amazed at the information and such a wonderful employee. I thanked her so much for her help and intelligent. Attendant came over and reviewed the camera footage on screen and I pointed out 2 items scanned and two items in bag. Item #3 flagged as unscanned, repeat verification. Item 4 went fine. Item 5 flagged as unscanned. Item 6 flagged as unscanned. I waa livid at this point because the attendant refused to come over and clear it up. I took out my cell phone and started recording. I recorded each item I placed in bags and recorded the on screen scanned items. The attendant finally came over and verified all of tge items in the bag were scanned. I payed while the attendant watched. I still got stopped at the door and was forced to wait while the door attendant and security verified all 7 items again. They verified all items were paid for, yet still asked me to come with them to their security office. I informed them that I would only do so under protest and against my will. I then followed by stating that if they have already verified everything was paid for that detaining me was in violation of my 4th amendment and that any detention will be considered abduction; which is a class 3 felony. They looked at me all shocked. I then told them that it is either that or I go willingly if they agree to pay me for my time ( $150 an hour).
They said, " we aren't going to pay you." So I responded with, " then I'm not going with you." They responded with , " then you will have to leave without the merchandise." I responded, " that would be theft, as I now own those items."

My local Walmart tried to get rid of self-check and the community complained to corporate because having a cashier at every register was not acceptable to people, now our self checkout is 15 items or less and used as an express checkout.
I was using self check out. A employee stood beside me watching me scan every item. Staring at me to the point that she wasn't helping other customers. When I was finished she asked me if I was to pay for the bottle that I was "hiding" in my sons car seat. I asked her if she was serious. With a dead pan expression she said, yes you need to pay for that. This was his bottle that had milk in it. I was so angry and confused. It is bizarre to tie up a store employee for 20 minutes to walk around and unlock items and then go to a self-checkout? They got rid of cashiers to save money and now they got to pay other store employees just to walk around and open doors???
My QT stores now have all the alcohol behind locked fridges. You scan your ID type the door number in and it only opens that door then show your ID again at purchase. Not so bad for alcohol but for everyday goods is making shopping hard.

This!!! I don't mind and understand why they locked up items, but it sucks that you have to wait so long for employee. I tried to get something out of the frozen section, was waiting for 15 minutes, and just walked away
That is exactly what they want. That way they can charge you an employee shopper fee and a delivery fee.

I had an issue with those years ago (when they 1st came out) while buying my items. I had been trying to scan items before putting them in the bag, and it seemed fine at 1st. Then I was buying Kool-Aid packets this way and the machine started telling me to steal (spamming, please put item in bag with no way to tell it to skip) and as I mentioned I was putting them in bag after scanning (so it was already in the bag, but the machine would not stop and taking the item out of the bag only made things worse). The machine would not let me continue shopping until I put an extra packet in the bag, there was no worker managing them, and all other lanes were closed. I tried looking for a worker for a few min, but had to proceed due to time restraints (was not a button to call for help/skip at the time, and it was getting late). Upon reaching the door, the guard stopped us (a friend was with me), I proceeded to explain the issue, suggested he check the cams if he did not trust my word, and tried to give him the quarter (showing I was still willing to pay). The guard was willing to cooperate, but had I gone to court, I would have pled not guilty, and they would have had to provide evidence to prove it was theft (the video camera footage and my friend/witness would have proved my innocence).
*Another warning! If you purchase an item that is labeled "on sale", make sure it scans for that price. Often the sales price has not been entered into the check-out--

It happened to me at Michael’s the other day with a little skeleton mirror (it’s disco-style, on sale, and I’m using it!)
By going slow, the employees can watch me comfortably. They can assume as they need to, but I wont move too fast. I can catch a double scan and have it removed ASAP. When I’m all done, I keep the receipt within reach in a bag, or in my hand.
Tbf, I’ve never been flagged. I can’t imagine how I’d react, but I’m prepared for it happening. I don’t really even go out to shop often. Maybe once or twice a month? Or less often

The employees are too busy picking orders now days ...it seems their new business model is warehouse sales that happen to be open to the public sadly this means nobody is even stocking so if you show up at the wrong time there is nothing left to buy on them due to most of the personal shoppers / employees are cleaning them out ...
In the cities they are allowing people to steal is because they want the system to collapse, stores to close etc. The owners of Wal Mart have bern selling a bunch of their shares. They know. Everything they are doing right now that makes no sense is to collapse the country because they want to change it into something else.

I'm against theft like most people. A lot of this falls under honest mistake and the customer should be offered to pay for the missing items.
It's different if there's a clear pattern they're not scanning electronics or just walking out the store completely. Then yes there's a case.

The not touching anyone is merchant policy to prevent lawsuits, not Law.
Walmart has always stopped and checked receipts in my city. Way before self checkout was even implemented. Esp if you had items untagged or under the carriage. @@Tony-Steel64 Except no charges were levied against her, there goes your theory.
@sarah-ym6re Not true, otherwise the D.A. would have filed charges. It's true that forgetting to scan several items (as opposed to just one or two) can result in the police arriving and giving you a court date, but in order for charges to be filed for something like this there has to be more demonstrable evidence.
Self check out all the time. Never had an issue.
16:32 I was told at orientation when I started working at Walmart back in 2013: if you accidentally forget to scan something at self-checkout, just leave. Do not come back in and try to pay for it, because they might think you meant to intentionally steal it but felt bad at the last minute
Real thieves would never come back period. So this logic is straight up false.
As someone living in switzerland , that video shocks me😳 we got self check out on top of cashiers. They make radome controls before you payed! they scan some items and if one misses they scan all. You pay and DONE.
We even got kind of mini stores by flower stores, farmers and backeries with only a little piggy bank to pay. For example the bakery in front of my house. Puts out the left over bread at night ( fee in the open! ) I can just go and take what I need and pay the piggy bank.
I had to return a ladder to wallmart because they shipped me the WRONG ladder. I spent an hour in customer service as they opened up a full investigation only to find out that I had to take it to a different Wallmart location to get my money back. I was mad. While taking the ladder back out of the store I was stopped by a woman thinking I was trying to steal a ladder. I consider myself a pretty even-tempered man, but I was starting to see red. Whatever I said to her through gritted teeth scared her enough not to stop me and I left. The cheaper prices are just not worth the mental agony.
Let me guess you bought the ladder at Walmart in Tijuana , Mexico, crossed the border wall using the ladder and tried to return it at Walmart san Diego. 😂
They don't have cheaper prices. Maybe they used to. Every time I walk into a Walmart I usually walk out in disgust because their prices are so bad I won't even buy anything from them.
Walmart's whole business model is to price out the competition then RAISE Prices when consumers lack choices.
I'm 100% confident that a large chunk of these corps 'shoplifting' numbers are from underpaid, overworked and morally flexible employees taking their own 'benefits' in product.
"morally flexible" just means they don't have morals lol
WOW THANKS FOR READING THAT @@omnium_gatherum
The state of california actually doesnt prosecute criminals for theiving as long as the total stays under $950 - they would only get a fine if caught. And most shoplifters here just casually walk out. It's all over the news - and nothing is done about it. Its finally time that the stores do something about it. This is what voting for progressive liberal policies gets you and they have a right to defend themselves.
Just know as much as they're watching customers they're watching employees 20x as much. Most losses to stores come from within. Whether it be cashiers taking money out of the till, giving friends discounts, stealing credit card info from customers, or hooking friends up who come through their checkout. And then there's the serious forms of embezzlement. People on the inside understand how the systems work and are always a bigger liability.
@@omnium_gatherum No, it means you don't know the difference between morals and ethics.

Yep!
That plastic stuff is no joke! 🤣
Yes! I laughed as soon as I heard that. 😊
I don't think they said Dollar Tree. I think they said Dollar Store. I stopped my video right there and asked everyone in the room, did you all know the Dollar Store has fine jewelry? lol
Cheapest jewelry, just costume, and they have the nerve to call it fine jewelry , I’m laughing ,
I always use self check out at Walmart. I accidentally left a bag with items I paid for. I didn't notice it until I got home about an hour later. I went back with my receipt and asked for a manager to explain my error. He immediately told customer service to give me a refund. He didn't even bother to go check the camera as I asked. I guess it depends on which store you deal with.
I was finished scanning items, then discovered I didn't have my card, phone was dead.
They very kindly put the whole trolly in the fridge, allowing me to go home, then return to pay.
Very weird going in, paying, then straight out again.
Or what you yourself looks like? Age gender race etc will most definitely make a difference in how u r treated or suspected at walmart ffs
@@AkronJosh Pound sand, Josh, nobody cares about that stuff except you racist leftists.
it seems like the city, area of town or store makes all the difference. Walmart near my house has better merch, quality higher end stuff compared to the Walmart on the 'other side of town.' And they are all over you there though
I had something similar happen. I double scanned an item without realizing it. Walked out of the store, double checked receipt as something felt off. Went to Customer Service and got an instant refund. Figured I'd be stuck 30 mins while they reviewed the video ...
I avoid all these issues by never ever shopping at Walmart. I have no problems with them and they never get a penny of my money. Fairly certain that hurts them far more than it hurts me.
I can shop for groceries at WinCo, which is often cheaper than Walmart, but non-grocery purchases are usually a lot more expensive at Walmart competitors, so I go to Walmart for those. (I get my gasoline there too, since they have the best price other than CostCo, where I'm not a member.)
Unfortunately here, as in many places, Walmart has forced out all the stores that USED to be here. That leaves Walmart as the only option unless you can afford to drive a distance and pay higher prices. Many people would love to "just don't go to Walmart " but they really don't have an option.
You mentioned Costco. I'm new to Costco. I don't have a car. I went with a friend. So I went and paid for my groceries, then I went back into the store to find my friend. To me, that was an innocent move. But when I tried to leave with my friend, I was interrogated, searched and they called in a supervisor, I was tired of being harassed. I'm sorry. I have a learning disability. I feel I was being taken advantage of.
Funny thing, stores used to not let customers even touch the goods, they had to ask the clerk to take them off the shelves. When supermarkets opened, people resented having to get their own products. Men in particular, simply refused to use shopping carts when they came out because they felt anything that resembled a baby stroller was emasculating. We are a capricious bunch, but we are also adaptable.
They should have special man carts looking like wheelbarrows. 😉

One of the biggest problems with self check out is sale prices often don’t get put into the machine the other day when I went to the Family Dollar store in our town. 11 of my 12 items were priced wrong in the store associates got mad at me and told me I wasn’t reading the prices right and I actually walked two associates around the store with me to show them that my 11 items were not properly rung up.
I see a sale item with a drastically different price i take a picture of it, If there is any discrepancy i call over an employee working in the area and show them the picture and that usually ends any discussion. They have to sell the item at the posted price.
Yes, there's been times where the same thing scanned for the wrong price several weeks in a row. They had to send an employee back to confirm that the price on the shelf was lower and then the attendant had to change the price in the machine. They never bother to fix the price in the machine when these happen, so if anything this could be charged against the store as intentional fraud.
@@toscatattertail9813I was at family dollar and my coupon didn't work so the cashier just said whatever I will give you 1 for free.
Yeah… I take pics of the item on the shelf cuz it often rings up way higher than labels so it tricks us into thinking it’s less, imo. The corporate knows.
The fact that they insist on checking your receipt at the door instead of putting those people at a register is why I stopped going to Wal-Mart years ago. I'll find what I need elsewhere...and not at Target either.
No they need to hire more cashiers and door greeters only checkout items that don't fit in a bag. Ex tvs ,24 pack soda & etc
I've never let them check my receipt at the door. I always say "NO" and walk away. I think it's very disrespectful of them to ask to look at my receipt.... So I refuse to comply and I've never had any issues just going to my car putting my items in and leaving.
I used to use self-checkout at the grocery store, but they did a software update to their machines and they would not detect items being put in the bagging area properly or would start nagging to put items in the bagging area before any human could reasonably move the item from the scanner to the bag. The machines near the door would also spontaneously claim that you removed an item from the bagging area in cold days every time the door would open- it got to the point where there were more employees running around clearing false alarms than doing abything else.
They assume the people using self check out are thieves yet they forced us to use the hated self check out. At this point Walmart should be run out of business.
People would have to become self sufficient and that's not going to happen ... at least in Texas we have produce co ops

I've never experienced this problem because I've started to support my local buisnesses long ago.
But not only did AI took the fun ot of shopping, it also took the fun out of watching some YT videos.
I was at Walmart not to long ago and while checking out I was weighing an onion. I typed the code in with it on the scale it told me to take it off of the scale and put it back on. It added it to the total so I put it in a bag then it said item not scanned and had an employee come over there. Seeing these other stories I’m glad the guy had sense and after it replayed it in front of both of us said “it thought you didn’t scan it, you’re good to go”.
Since that I don’t go to Walmart. They got rid of cashiers and now the machine claims you’re stealing after you follow the exact instructions it gives you.
I had something similar happen. I scanned something and they came and said I did not scan it. I showed them the item on the receipt and asked how did it get on the receipt if I did not scan it?
@ Exactly, if they are that worried about theft they need to reimplement cashiers.
I absolutely refuse to go to Walmart and I will never step foot in one of their stores again.
I have never shopped at Walmart because of how little they pay their employees who have to rely on Food Stamps and other forms of public assistance that we pay for.

Not only that but the number of small towns they moved into and put all the local stores out of business. Then left the city high and dry when they closed the store because it wasn't profitable to be there.
Part of opening a business is market research and clearly theirs's was incomplete.
I haven't been in a wal mart in 3 years. FTP!!!
FACT: I was shopping at a Wal Mart, for an $8 tool. However, I ha only had 3 $100 bills. so i took precaution and wrote down the serial numbers of each $100 bill prior to entering Wal mart. When I paid for the item I gave the cashier a $100 bill, she gave me $37 and change, and I would not accept it, because it was the incorrect change due. She argued she was right. I called a MGR, the MGR confirmed I gave a $50 bill as shown on the receipt.. Then I showed her the serial number of the $100 bill, and told her to get the police. At that moment, MGR opened the cash drawer and found the $100 bill and gave me my change. The cashier was taken off the register. People must be careful when shopping at a Wal Mart store.
That was smart! Regarding the integrity of an employee, when it comes to picking up a particular prescription, I now have the pharmacist or technician count it all in front of me before I walk away. Over the years, those double check counts in front of me has resulted in proving that the pill count was short about 8 different times. That means someone is not counting it correctly and likely with the intent to take them. Once you walk away from the window there is nothing you can do about missing medication. One time resulted in a pharmacist being arrested.
What happened to page is almost what happened to me and my roommate. We accidentally forgot to scan one pizza with a FULL cart of groceries and we ended up having to return it and everything else. They took our ID's, and said that if this every happened again we'd be arrested on the spot and banned and have a permanent notice of us from the store with our record. They told us we weren't getting arrested that time cause it was under $50- we haven't used Walmart since.
who took your IDs? if it was the store security, they had no right to do that and i would have simply refused to give them my ID before just walking out of the store. by the way, security guards have no power to detain or arrest people, their job is just to observe and report.
One time I went to Whole Foods after my 4:00 am to 4:30 pm hour shift, and i accidentally left a bottle of alfredo sauce in the corner of the cart. I honestly was on autopilot and didnt notice luckily the clerk noticed and she was really nice about it. It's still embarrassing though, i can't imagine what wouldve happened at self checkout.
You'd be arrested.
A few years ago I was leaving for an out of state trip and stopped at Walmart to grab last minute supplies. I was on the phone with a family member while checking myself out. After Walmart I went to the gas station to fill up and noticed I had more cash than I should have. Yep. I never paid at Walmart so I had to go back and explain. They rang it up and I paid but was amazed nobody stopped me the first time
I went to Walmart and accidentally scanned an item twice and was charged twice; found out when I got home, but no one came over to tell me I made a mistake, no one came to my door and told me here is your refund.

I was so happy self checkout finally existed. As a wheelchair user it allowed me to go to more grocery stores because very often the cashier lanes are not even as wide as a doorway
But are the jail cells handicapped friendly? I hope you never have to find out.
@@Pehwr That was random. How are jails BS? Doesn't your town, county, state and federal prison system exist? Or is it BS?

It may be handy, but it also causes a lot of problems. Alternatively, they could have provided handicap friendly cashier lanes, which would actually be better since they scan and bag the groceries for you. A decades ago, they would even take the groceries out to your car for you. But that no longer exists.
One day I went to my local store, checked at self checkout. Got my bags and went to my car. Than I looked on my phone and wondered why I didn’t have a notification from my bank of the payment. I instantly cut my car off and nearly ran back into the store with my bags and talked to the worker at the door and the self checkout employee and went to the self checkout line and realize the self checkout never took my payment. Both me and the clerk checked me out. She laughed and this store still treats me well. Thank God. This mistake could have cost me. Now I make sure to get my receipts even if I only have a few items.
Always. Get. Your. Receipt.
Even if you don't need it for finance reasons, it is an alibi for anything else. it places you at the store at that time and day. if they have the option for text and paper receipt, take both. Also, reciept paper is NOT recyclable.
This is exactly why I do not shop at Walmart or any place that use only self checkout or forces people to use them in lieu of a checker.
I went into a Wendy's one evening and got served by an associate. Went back the next day (the health ramifications are bad, I know!!) and, instead of a smiling associate, there was a massive touch screen. Walked straight out.
This mess could lead somebody to believe that the mere act of shopping itself may be illegal.
Its nice how walmart put everybody else out of buisness and made everyone rely on them and all of these employees and police back them up.

Walmart didn’t put anyone out of business. By choosing to get items slightly cheaper, Walmart shoppers put other businesses out of business. It’s the consumers fault, not Walmart.
Jess, Get your facts strait. There has been a claim for years that walmart has put other stores out of bussiness. However, An investigation has shown that those stores were already struggleing and ready to close their doors.
So executives like Doug McMillon are aware that their lowest-paid employees are struggling to make ends meet, yet they're taking steps to protect their products from theft that end up causing more work for those employees and making it harder for customers to shop. Instead of finding a real solution to the problem, like paying their employees a livable wage, these companies are making things worse for everyone. It's a short-sighted approach that doesn't fix the root of the problem and just makes life harder for everyone.
It's actually worse than that. They are not only not paying their employees enough as it is, they actually steal billions in wages from their employees every year. Wage theft outweighs every other kind of property crimes COMBINED. They alone have stolen around 1.5 TRILLION from their employees since 2000. So while they whine about retail theft, behind the scenes they rob their employees blind legally and illegally.
how would paying higher wages help prevent theft? also, that won't do with americans. ppl yell about fair wages and not jsut dumping toxines in the environment and human rights, then happily buy chinese if it's 0.5% cheaper, with the added flavor of oppression and forced labor.
Plus Walmart (from my experience) is a very toxic work environment.
yeah...that pesky 20 an hour! They need 100 an hour!
Even if they paid their employees a livable wage certain people will still steal
Okay but a warrent for what? The police won't do anything about shop lifting unless the merch is worth more than $700. I think this is an AI-written story made to scare people.
