Definitely one of my favorite films! A masterpiece! So rich and fast paced that multiple viewings is not tiresome! In answer to the question about the hood / bonnet flying off the Cadillac limousine as it just avoids the ladder, it was not in the script. The car was already 20 years old at that time long out of service as a funeral home or corporate vehicle. By then it was well-worn, and I understand was owned by a local family who used it to transport their brood. Between the age and serious abuse in the film, it is hardly surprising that the hinges broke. I don't know if multiple vehicle were even used. Bogdanovich did some brilliant guerilla filming like the unauthorized drive down the steps as mentioned in the narration, as well as the stunt early on when Barbra Steisand jaywalks across the street to the hotel, forcing a car to brake suddenly, and the one trailing to rear end it. Those two cars were rented, with Bogdanovich expressingly stipulating collision insurance for both vehicles. I had no idea the speed of the cars driving down the dock into San Francisco Bay was 70 MPH! When one considers all the comic yet exceptionally dangerous stunts seen in this film, it is very interesting and certainly warranted that this is the first US film to expressly credit the stunt performers. But as you point out, the taxi driver is a stunt performer, but he does have face time and dialogue. The jolly, nutty, bowler-hat-wearing Cadillac convertible driver was also a stuntman, from Australia. Thanks for this video production!

My favorite movie ever...couldn't begin to say how many times I've seen it. Anywho, I thought it was the first U.S. film to list stunt players in the credits but wasn't 100% certain. Now I'm going to go ahead an finally claim that certainty on your authority! Thanks! (P.S., the movie is about 4 identical bags with different stuff in them, but I guess at any given point everybody thinks there's only one bag...So, we'll give it to ya! 😆)

Thank you so much for your insight with action scenes in the featured movie: in it's day there wasn't any (obvious) CGI or green/blue screen instead of locations where movies are made or a studio - recently I viewed a documentary about those within the industry.
Extremely unfair that they never get the recognition others get all the time (veterans Denise Ryan and Jim Dowdall speak about) without such people, the movie and TV industry is lost without them - 👍.

This is a great comedy and a real nice breakdown of the stunts. I am surprised you didn't comment on the guy leaping over the wall onto his back on a restaurant table. From what I understand that guy permanently hurt himself on that one. (Maybe you mention this in your podcast?).

Another film that changed the credits such that everyone is listed was American Graffiti. George Lucas promised to include everyone since they were not getting paid squat in many cases for working on the film.

I remember seeing an interview with Loren Janes a long time ago and he mentioned this stunt. I believe he said he was unconscious before he even hit the water. Thankfully for Loren, the divers already there in the water probably saved his life.
Very interesting trivia regarding the credits, I never would have guessed which movie had stunt credits first.

I've always loved the sheet of glass stunt. As far as I can tell, though, the glass is broken (presumably with small explosive charges) just before the guy goes through it. I'm guessing they couldn't make a sheet of breakaway glass that big.
