- here are my thoughts on the Yaesu ftdx 710 oh wait they don't call it an ftdx it's an ft 710. so I've had this radio over a month and in this video I will discuss what I like and don't like about the radio
I find that the menu system on the 710 is much easier than the IC7300. Once everything is set up, you just hit the func button and you have the main menu(most used items).
I also love the 3D waterfall. I use it exclusively. Signals stand out!
I really like my 710.
My only complaint is the buttons aren’t backlit.
Other than that it sounds great and I get great compliments on audio.
Of course I spent the time adjusting the equalizer .
21 minutes spent non-productively. This man does not like the 710. Many others disagree.
I like it but im just being honest. It could be better but for the price its a tremendous value in radio.
Good observations of the FT-710, although some may say you are over critical, I am glad you brought these issues up. For me the small size is exactly why I would buy the radio. The tuner issue would not be a problem for me as I prefer to use an outboard tuner for my compromised antennas due to the HOA. As far as the bi-directional HDMI to DVI, I as was not aware. Again, not an issue for me as I use a computer monitor and not a TV. I went all out and bought a new pair of computer monitors when I got my FTdx10. It took me about 2-3 days to disconnect the monitor for the band scope. I find it annoying because of the poor resolution and I prefer looking at the radio band scope, not the monitor anyway. 73!
Yes, the resolution definitely drops a lot to an external monitor. I think the radio has one of the best dnr dsp type things for rx. I was definitely over critical but mostly to prove a point. Companies need to make what hams want not what they think we need. If people make enough noise about issues and concerns we might get better mouse traps

Hams don’t buy ssb radio for the sake of AM reception. An ordinary good radio with good sound system is enough . So we can ignore this .
it says its a multimode radio - not only ssb. so it should work good on all modes... hams are not only ssb workers!
Great vid! Another often overlooked problem with all latest-greatest rigs is all the bugs that are always in the firmware - new designs always ship with at least 5 show-stopper problems, but often more, that ordinarily would have halted production if someone had actually tried to use the thing on the air. Always. So, you're hung out to dry with this busted rig until the manufacturer decides to fix it. Sometimes they don't, and you're screwed. That's the hazard of always upgrading to the newest thing.
Which leads me to the 7300. Which is old, but the advantage there is, Icom's been fixing bugs in the firmware since 2016. It's had 9 FW updates during that time. So I'm now leaning towards just getting the 7300, to tell the truth. I love my 705, but I need to QRO for various reasons and the 7300 seems to be the best compromise for doing that....
Thanks for your review. I have a 710 and IMO the receiver is more capable than the 7300. Considering the cost, the 710 is a good buy.
With respect to no tuner in the receive chain, does anyone know what comparable radio has one? Interesting topic.
No yaesu does anymore. I actually bought another 7300 a few days ago. Its going to be hard to say the 710 hears any better. Ive been using them side by side. About the same really but you get extra selectivity with a tuner in rx. And that alone is probably more noticeable. The entire icom line has more advanced tuners. Kenwood ts590 probably is also . But no yaesu in production will have that feature. Even the ftdx101. I believe you can probably still buy a ftdx 5000 and there's a couple of other really special order high-dollar radios and those ones probably do but not many of us are going to spend $10,000 on the radio

The tuner out of line in RX is a show-stopper for me;. Receivers are people too! They have impedance just like transmitters! So why are they denied a good match?
You got me. I have alot of yaesus and they do that to most of them anymore. The ft450d it can be enabled but the ftdx1200 and ftdx3000 and ft991a and ftdx10 and ftdx101 all have tuner denial lol. I guess they think we are to stupid to hear the difference. A tuner acts like a band pass band stop filter too . It blocks out unwanted crap. I definitely can tell the difference on other radios.
Given your assessment of this, the dx-10 and the ic-7300, what new rig would you recommend? I was hoping you were going to do that at the end of your video.
The 710 is best bang for buck. Plus 3 year warranty. Better rx than 7300. Better at blocking noise and interference. The ftdx10 isnt worth the money in my opinion and the ergonomics suck. Play placed the band button right smack up against the vfo knob so what ends up happening is when you try and change bands you end up bumping the vfo knob it's very annoying
