I just bought this radio yesterday (DX in Sparks, NV). I'm brand new to HF. I just upgraded to General about a month ago. I've been a ham for almost 30 years but I've been off for over 20 years and never got into HF. Long story but new I'm ALL-IN. I'm looking forward to getting this radio set up tomorrow. I've watched at least a zillion videos on the radio (at LEAST a zillion!) and decided this was the 'entry-level' radio for me. Thank you for your video. It helped me understand a few more things.
No problem. And if you would like, join us on the Friendy Bunch every evening starting at 7pm on 75meters. Frequency is 3.919 lower sideband. Saturday nights at 8pm is dedicated to kids which lasts about an hour. But its a great ragchew group and ive been talking with them about a year now. Glad you found my video helpful
I hope you like the new 710. I got the same radio and love it. Talking on the .73 repeater about it caused Bryan and Sean to do a HRO road trip. But they had to one up me and get the ftdx10. I love the monitor feature. I am able to keep the display in front of me near my computer displays.
My father in law/my elmer surprised me with a 710 field for Christmas. The catch : can't use until i get my general after the holidays. Until then I'm content on my FT-890 KQ4IHG
I have thoroughly enjoyed this radio so far. I have found things i wish were better but for the cost, i am extremely hapoy with it. If you ever hear me on the air, give me a shout. Christmas is only 4 days away now. You can find me on the Friendly Bunch conversation group most nights on 3.919.000 mhz. They are on 7 nights a week everyday 365 days a year. Hope to hear ya on the air and thanks for watching
Great video! I learned a lot. I am new to the hobby. Just curious, can you change the colour of the waterfall from diabolical red to something different? Is it customizable? I was recommended this radio but I don't like the red waterfall.
no, as an operator it is your responsibility to know where the privileges in your license class ends. However, the radio will not transmit outside the dedicated amateur radio bands. its good to learn the privileges within each band as it various slightly with the different modes that can be operated and where those modes are operated within each band. good question though. thank you.
You will like the external display even more with a wireless mouse. Thanks for the video.

Monitor function lets you hear yourself when you speak, either thru the speaker or headphones.
Nice video, sometimes those signals moving across the spectrum frequency are the Ionosonde checking the MUF
Hey, I recognize that 13.8v power supply. I've got the same one powering my Yaesu.
I run 3 radios on that supply and it never skips a beat

it has 9 different combinations of light patterns. but that was actually more of an orange
Can you set the radio to prevent you from transmitting on frequencies outside of your privileges?
