    Arch linux still exists?? Why didn't you just throw a live distro of ubuntu on a thumb drive and install it that way? Ubuntu is very well supported and maintained. next you'll be trying to install a 20 year old distro of red hat on a commodor calculator.

    There's a problem to where you don't want to update the ubuntu installer. It causes it to fail almost every time that I've noticed. Took removing the bootable device and restarting in safe mode for me to install. Just don't update the installer.

    Oh, regarding the x6200 price, at $880 for the Yaesu FT710 without speaker from R&L, I agree that it’s way too expensive and knocking on the door of the 710 or ic7300. If you want the portable operability and the ic or ft won’t cut it, buy the x6100 at $517 and be happy with its shortcomings and nearly $300 lower cost than the 6200.

    Got SBitx from designer Ashhar Farhan at HamVention this year as my reentry into the new world of radios after being away for 20 years. I’m putting up antennas now but have been playing around with the radio using an 11m Big Stick and it’s been doing great on 20m. Decoded my first FT8 on screen last week. Really neat radio and a big community supporting it. Ashhar is usually very responsive in the support groups. For $400, I figured how much do I lose if it’s a piece of crap? Oh it’s the only radio made in India that’s running the circuit. Also at least you are left with a pi 4 and touch screen if you never use the radio portion. So among the well loved Xiegu g90 at about $430 or the Xiegu x6100 now at $517 on Amazon or that whole range of MCHF radios in low $300s based on M0NKA’s open source project, you can protect yourself by buying through Gigaparts, R and L electronics or Amazon. And you buy either well commercialized radios from xiegu, totally experimental like the sbitx or sort of random clone of clone and YMMV in the MCHF genre where the highest priced waterfall display radio is the x6100 @ $517, how can you go wrong? It’s a great time to be in radio.

    Hey remember that "ham radio" operators can be some of the cheapest people on the planet lol it's the one "hobby" where people want their money back on their used junk, but they want extra money for inflation of the dollar and having had used and tinkered with the product. Really sick when you think about. As a retired RF engineer, I could tell you without reservation that the majority of these people, even "the old salty dogs" don't know wtf their talking about technically a lot of the time. I wouldn't trust most of them. It's such a shame really. And it's justified by the terms "hobby" and "amateur." Such an unfunny joke..

    Id recommend booting into installer and finding your desired install drive with fdisk -l and then opening it with fdisk /dev/[drive] and deleting any partitions(using d command I believe) since the boot partition is too small, you can write changes with w command. You can resize but with a clean install its easier to just redo the partitioning and install processes. When using archinstall script or if you do the install manually just make sure your boot partition is around 500mb, Ive never had an issue with that personally. Also make sure if the bootloader install step where you got that red error message finishes successfully you should install any necessary wifi drivers if needed, generally intel wifi drivers are built into kernel but for broadcom you might need broadcom-wl or some other package, you can find the right one on the wiki after finding your device model and currently in use driver with lspci -k command. Generally if the usb/disk for the install of arch can boot so can arch itself so its definitely no motherboard issue. Arch can run on very old(or new) hardware for the most part. Good luck, arch and the aur has some cool packages with or without a GUI for using an SDR.

    • @volka2199
      @volka2199 2 дні тому

      Arch also supports USB internet connections(tethering) via your Android phone if you have one as a last resort assuming you forgot to install the right wifi driver package.

  • @volka2199
    @volka2199 2 дні тому

    The missing firmware warnings are generally harmless and refer to hardware you likely dont even have on your system, I get them all the time when I rebuild initramfs. It is essentially certain necessary things that get loaded into memory that the kernel needs to boot your system such as filesystem drivers, kernel modules for things like graphics and wireless network cards. The final error during this process is what id be worried about, without properly created initramfs the kernel may fail to boot. Ill double check what it says and post an edit if i see anything obviously messed up.

    • @volka2199
      @volka2199 2 дні тому

      Your boot partition is too small. The grub install is complaining that there is no space left so your bootloader is failing to install onto your boot partition. 500mb is usually how big I make it.

    Ridgid and their Lifetime Service Agreement (LSA). I have dutifully registered every tool and battery (avoid reconditioned and unauthorized/used products). After 15 years of light use, I had sent back a 1.5Ah battery and the inflator (broken tip), they were rebuilt and replaced (in that order). They work great. The string trimmer has been problematic with an overly complicated and fragile design. I like Ridgid and their LSA, just like the old Craftsman and their Lifetime Warranty. I will use them both...Ridgid could use a better breadth of 18v tools, not redesigning their drills, impact drivers, and routers for the nth time. I could use more yard tools, powered wheelbarrow, or maybe some other power tool. The ever expanding Ryobi tool series are tempting...

    Synaptic is DPKG based. Ubuntu uses Debian's package manager. I use the command line for package management. Some things can take a long time to figure out. Mint is a fork of Ubuntu. At one time Canonical came out with a Desktop Environment called Unity and some folks didn't like it. So they came up with Mint. POST has nothing to do with the OS you're running. That's a hardware issue. My PC boots up in 5.693 seconds according to systemd-analyze. Which is kind of slow. But I don't boot up very often so I can't be bothered profiling it. $ uptime 19:03:22 up 128 days, 24 min, 6 users, load average: 0.11, 0.28, 0.55

    That was a 100% honest opinion about ham radio. I agree. I don't use 75/80 m and don't plan on it. I usually operate 40 CW. I agree once a majority of these gatekeepers die off things will hopefully get better. Here on the East Coast during the day, my main pet peeve is we have a quote service net on 40 m, but they also asked for " donations" sounds like a Grift to me. And if you don't donate the net control goes out of his way to let everyone else know that oh I noticed that you didn't donate yet ,They say all the money goes to charity... Yeah. But I really wanted to say thank you for making this video and you're right there's probably a lot of amateurs that are pissed off right now I am not one of them.
