Nice review, however one thing that was left out was the price after options. This could mean that a similarly specced ES could be around 20k cheaper than the Germans, because it comes as standard with loads of equipment, unlike its rivals.
True. But the problem with the ES is that it's just not as sophisticated as the German cars in this test. With its transverse-engine, front-wheel drive configuration, and CVT transmission, it's basically a Toyota Camry with manually-stitched interiors and larger cup holders. Toyota's bet is that not all drivers would be bothered by this...
@@snail977 You are correct, and the features you point out explain why the ES is so much cheaper. Maintenance costs are even more dramatically less for the ES than the Germans. Any of the more expensive cars is more entertaining on an empty mountain roads, but the Lexus is fine for everyday driving on crowded streets.
That is not true - I have compared the specs and Merc is better value for money. Compare ES Takumi with E300 AMG line (petrol) with comfort pack and Merc works out over £1400 cheaper + have more (not less) equipment and better at that e.g. panoramic roof vs. standard sunroof, air suspension vs. adaptive... it is faster etc etc. And just to clarify - I am biased towards Lexus, I drive Lexus myself... however facts are facts. The days when the Lexus "standard equipment" blew even £10k more expensive MB or BMW are long gone. I was kind of surprised with my comparison, but Merc had most equipment for the money, then BMW, then Lexus and Audi works out most expensive if you want to make the all like for like. Other massive issue for Lexus (for me) is lack of choice - single engine, single drivetrain and option list although comparatively quite long is really short compared to freedom of configuration you have on German cars.
@@jevgeniardassov That is irrelevant, 95% of these cars are leased or bought on some sort of finance deal - how they fair after 3 years and 60k miles is irrelevant for new car owners. Svaka čast! Mamicu mu lažovsku! He’s a liar and biased! And in every single video in last ten years when he compared Audi, Mercedes and BMW in any class, for him Audi is always a winner! And yes he’s a liar when he was speaking about the height and said average Dutch is 1.85 m, on his screen is written ppl from Montenegro and Hercegovina (South East Slavs). I couldn’t believe that he’s talking about Dutch, because I’m a Serbian and as majority of ppl from Serbia, Montenegro, Hercegovina, Croatia, Dalmatia etc, when we go to Netherland, Germany or ANY OTHER Western European country they are not tall at all, but opposite! Yet when we go to France, Italy or Spain they are literally dwarfs comparing to us!
He's not lying. He just made a mistake by searching up the tallest people in the world on average, instead of THE COUNTRY with on average the tallest people in the world. As a matter of fact, the average height for Dutch people is indeed the tallest in the world out of all the other COUNTRIES. You can search this up on Google btw, the average height is 184.0cm in the Netherlands, which is actually taller than people that live in Serbia, Montenego, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Croatia, , but the tallest people in the world indeed live in the DINARIC ALPS (with being 185.6cm on average), but since that's just a region in Herzegovina and Montenegro and not a country, the title of the country with the tallest people in the world goes to the Netherlands, and since Matt was talking about countries and not regions, he's speaking the truth.

ive always thought Audis had the worst exteriors. Reminds me of like a toyota corolla but their interiors always blow everyone out the water. Like a literal spaceship. It reminds me of something in the future or something iron man drives.
Griffin White nah I meant to say an Audi’s exterior looks like a corolla as in Audi doesn’t look good. If I said a corolla looks like an Audi then I’m complimenting Audi but I’m not
How crazy it is I test drove the ES300h 2 days ago and I was impressed by its comfortable ride, smoothness and quietness. Although, I didn’t like the CVT gearbox and it’s noisy engine when you floor it. And here I am watching carwow and hearing Matt say that the germans are more comfortable and quieter hahaha
I think lexus is slowly becoming overrated. People praise lexus a lot but I never enjoy their cars. Imo, german cars are way better in performance and comfort.
Lexus is noisier when it comes to tires noises, but comfort I think it really depends. Maybe in Europe German cars are more comfortable, but in Asia, there are some crappy roads, then German cars will just make your ass hurt.

I might not see the bigger picture here but how are the aluminium handles on the Mercedes 'budget' while Audi 'nails' the interior with 99% piano black plastic?
I’m a BMW fan but I love the interior of the Mercedes the most followed by Audi and then BMW. The new 3 Series interior looks really good imo and I can’t wait for the next 5 Series cus I feel it’s getting a little outdated. Frankly the Lexus isn’t even in the picture for me, all round trash
The new 3-series interior sure looks good yes, but having moved from a G30 5-series to a G20 3-series, i can say the 5-series interior is just so much more practical to live with. There's a reason why it is a little "outdated", because it is near perfect to use and it is so friggin high quality. Like Mat said, there are no cheap parts in the 5-series interior (except at the back seat doorside behind your shoulder, it's not actually a part of a seat, it's a cheap feeling wall, not actually a part of a "seat" but don't tell Mat). Personally i hope BMW never moves away from the 5-series interior practicality. It is almost perfect, if not perfect. At least the new 3-series has the intelligent personal assistant so i don't have to bother trying to find the flattened buttons while driving, can just tell it what to do and it does it.
Eventus Vantos of course I’m a true merc fan ever since I was a kid. Not even the new gen e class, but the upcoming facelift will even blow the a6 away imo

Cheap than bmw 5 series or audio s6 or lexus es?
"It would test the patience of a saint...on valium". I always love the commentary haha!
It not might be, it will be. And it will last for years...
It only becomes relevant on used car market, but this is not what this review about, this is about how these are here and now, new for their RRP.
