surprised from audi? really? audi quattro is a legend. And audi suvs showed on comparative tests to be more sporty, agile and comfortable than the competition from mercedes and bmw. Still not as good as land rover in offroad, but way better than the british on road.
The 50i would have faired much better against the range rover better power to weight ratio and more advanced suspension and traction. Speaking from experience My X5 50i w/ BFG k02 has minimal issues overlanding in comparison to underwhelming I6 version.

My range has that too and its cool that they easily dominate the other ones! they probably dont have lockers.. but the jeep should have one!?
It's hard to compare with the different tires, the Range Rover definitely did the best by far. Audi Q8 seemed to do the best of the rest, followed by the Jeep Grand Cherokee and BMW
If they had the Trail hawk and not the Mall version of the Overland (they do have an Off road version of the Overland with 17" wheels.....this one is the non off road with 20") the Jeep would of killed this test.
I am beyond thrilled with the amount of detail and commentary you have put into this video. By far its the best video online that shows how these all wheel drive or 4WD systems work in real world situations. My hats off to you!

However, for me, it was the Q7 which was the biggest surprise, not least since in looks it doesn't have the same 'off-road styling' of some of the others.
Range Rover (Jaguar Land Rover) are suing (lawsuit) VW / Audi / Group (including Lamborghini & Porsche) for infringement of JLR drive train patents. It would seem that they copied some of JLR knowhow to improve their vehicle off road performance.
I don't get why people are surprised with the Q7. Here in Europe, the Q7 don't play with the diesel 4.2 or even the 3.0 diesel quattro. They don't play.
Great test. Cross overs are not really "hard off road vehicles" but will probably provide good ability on gravel and light off road. The Jeep is probably the best entry or dividet from cross-over to off-roader and the Range is in a different class.
If you watched the tug pull of G63 vs RR on Carwow, it further gives credence to this video. If only RR can improve reliability of their electronic systems, then they would be ultimate.

I’ve been driving a late 2014 Range Rover Sport 4.4 since 2015 and it has been magnificent. Last week I traded it in for a 67plate RR Vogue, pure go-anywhere luxury. The trade-in offer from the dealer for the Sport was incredibly generous being £5,000 more than they offered me last year! So this video has made me rather happy

Its not a true 4wd though so nothing less expected. The rear 127bhp electric motor kicks in for performance under acceleration on highway for performance. Trouble is you tubers don't understand this and class it as 4wd which it is not. Goes like stink from a standstill on tarmac though. It was never designed for off road use. This video just made me to become a Range Rover customer. I was planning to buy a Mercedes Benz GLE but after watching this😂 I will definitely buy a Range Rover Sport
In my opinion, the best performance is the Audi Q8 and Range Rover, but the Range Rover was more powerful in horsepower, and this is not fair because it was 623 horsepower. And Audi Q8 340 horsepower 😎 That's why Audi is the best🦾
I wasn’t expecting to watch on UA-cam a comparison test like this, getting these popular SUV’s out of the road and tested in extreme conditions. Very entertaining and fully detailed video. Well done 👍.
The Range Rover is here to show the difference between crossovers and SUVs. In one of the following videos, I compare the Range Rover and its competitors.
My point a few before the video: Subaru, Audi, Land Rover, Jeep and Suzuki all make great AWD-systems. But if I'd have to decide: 1. Audi 2. Subaru 3. Land Rover 4. Jeep 5. Suzuki After the video: 1. Land Rover 2. Jeep 3. Subaru 4. Audi 5. Suzuki :D
@@SUVBattle And where's the explanation in the title or in the description? You put it like they're all in the same category, while they obviously aren't.
@Martin Svensson Because the people doing the demonstration are not smart enough to put the Jeep in ROCK mode. They intentionally wanted the Jeep to do poorly. That is obvious by the way it was driven. Rock mode or Sand mode would have allowed the engine to spin.
Toyota 4 Runner TRD PRO with crawl control. Just let go of the steering wheel everytime you get stuck and hit crawl control. It would be impossible for 4runner to lose
I've owned Land Rovers, Range Rovers and Land Cruisers. The Land Rover and Land Cruiser are far superior in this terrain than the Range Rover. A Jeep Wrangler would beat all of them in this type of terrain.
I think the SQ7/8 or RSQ8 vs the Range Rover sport would be good, all have amazing AWD systems and powerful V8’s, would be interesting too see the outcome!
@Sky line V.S.G London rich lady's, mostly imported ones like from Russia, learn the history of cars, SUV history is that simple, overpriced and mostly useless car, if you compare it to any van/caravan.
@@tashingadekune9141 A lot used to blamed on British workers. However, several JLR models are no longer made in the UK, but still have issues (usually electrical/electronics).
I've got about 180k across 3 JLR products, and have been super happy with the reliability. I'm not sure what others do to their vehicles, but mine have been the most reliable vehicles I have owned.
For off roading? The Jeep was easily second best...with it's worst engine, giving up 300 hp to the RR. For style? the Lexus has that ..just dont go off road. 😄
It should be noted that the Jeep tested was a base model without the off-road package where low range is included (unlike the Range Rover which has low range standard). The Range Rover and Jeep would perform similarly when comparably equipped albeit that the Jeep will have more wheel slippage as the TC settings allow for more wheel spin. A similarly equipped grand cherokee with the 5.7L hemi or 3.0L diesel and low range is just as capable as a Range Rover sport as long as the tires are comparable. I am actually shocked that the rest of the vehicles in this test made it as far as they did. Other than the BMW’s the Volvo, Toyota Highlander (see Lexus RX350) and Audi are all very light duty Haldex AWD’s that are poorly suited for low speed/high torque climbs. Combined with the low stall speed transmissions and low final drive ratios of FWD based AWD crossovers, it should also be noted that once a high temp light is illuminated, the manual calls for a flush of that component. The BMW’s on the other hand are RWD bias systems with AWD optional. These are far and away better than ANY transverse [forward] mounted setup but are not programmed to perform off road. They lack the low range gearing needed for this type of testing.
I’ve owned a Jeep Grand Cherokee with 5.7L, fully loaded, and liked the car-gotten it stuck a number of times. Low range and off road tires helped, however, I now own a 2019 RR Sport and it’s way more capable. Hopefully will get a chance to try a new Defender soon.
Guess what sir. Your absolutely correct on that fact. Yes rolls Royce n lambo etc can say theyve built a 4x4. They're all looking at Land rover as a benchmark though. This video clearly shows why. 🇬🇧🇬🇧😅😅😅
That X5 had Mich Pilot Alpin 5 tires, which are winter performance tires. Suprised it didn't get better grip. And the Q8 had Hangook Ventus S1 evo3 tires - those are summer tires! Wow.
@@allgood1156 Not at all. it's all about gearing and suspension. Look at how a jeep wrangler works. It would put all these to shame and has UNDER 300 hp.

SUV Battle You are really antiAudi biased. In all your replays you are trying to make that Q8 less valueble. Saying its nothing by comparing it to G-glass that is tottaly missense...etc. And now, Q5 use Haldex quattro (with 2.0 TDI and TFSI) engines. Get 3.0 TDI, 3.0 TFSI, SQ5... than repeat what you said. @@Cef3axon1 why I should love audi? I am neutral to all cars In the next video Q5 will be with 2.0 TFSI and Quattro Ultra as like as most other participants. BMW X3 also will be with 2.0T Land Rover Discovery also will be 2.0T Range Rover Evoque also will come with 2.0T Why Audi should be with 3.0 TFSI?
SUV Battle Because 2.0 engines are not supposed to be used in such terrain. Even 3.0 engine cars sent you message about transmission overheat. Should I still tell why not only Audi should be 3.0?
The best is to have all the wheels connected to the engine and spinning together with fully lock diferencials, like the old Hyundai Galloper and Mitsubishi Pajero were, those things were unstoppable, much better than modern electronic 4x4 transmission.
The thing is that these are mainly on-road high performance wagons with raised ride height. The average owner would not want to go off-roading properly with them because their are very expensive luxury cars. The Range Rover does it far better probably because that is what Land Rover as a company is based on, but the average owner will still not want to risk breaking the thing, because they do break and are a pain to fix when they do, I use to have the full size Range Rover.

The lexus doesn't even look right off-road.
sean1 the1 I just don’t know why they didn’t use Lexus LX instead of RX. LX is the off-road monster.
sean1 the1. The Lexus doesn’t look right anywhere.
@@nasa1985 I agree lmao
Not a big fan of Lexus but it should have had LX the best off-roader in the world. This video is not comparing apples to apples
I agree. They needed a proper Lexus for this competition.

I know. Kind of silly. Especially just a few meters away is the highway. Why take this route? 😂
Range Rover: I'm the only SUV here!
Range Rover fans: Looks fair!
The Range Rover is here to show the difference between crossovers and SUVs. In one of the following videos, I compare the Range Rover and its competitors.
My point a few before the video:
Subaru, Audi, Land Rover, Jeep and Suzuki all make great AWD-systems. But if I'd have to decide:
1. Audi
2. Subaru
3. Land Rover
4. Jeep
5. Suzuki
After the video:
1. Land Rover
2. Jeep
3. Subaru
4. Audi
5. Suzuki :D
@@SUVBattle And where's the explanation in the title or in the description? You put it like they're all in the same category, while they obviously aren't.
@@SUVBattle link please
@Martin Svensson Because the people doing the demonstration are not smart enough to put the Jeep in ROCK mode. They intentionally wanted the Jeep to do poorly. That is obvious by the way it was driven. Rock mode or Sand mode would have allowed the engine to spin.
Wow, no one's near Range Rover, the best in the world ❤️
Toyota 4 Runner TRD PRO with crawl control. Just let go of the steering wheel everytime you get stuck and hit crawl control. It would be impossible for 4runner to lose

I agree tge range and land rovers are the best cars ever made
Should have tested a Land Rover. Beats the Range Rover every time.
I've owned Land Rovers, Range Rovers and Land Cruisers. The Land Rover and Land Cruiser are far superior in this terrain than the Range Rover. A Jeep Wrangler would beat all of them in this type of terrain.
Hot damn... LandRover really have their 4wd system dialled in perfectly!
I think the SQ7/8 or RSQ8 vs the Range Rover sport would be good, all have amazing AWD systems and powerful V8’s, would be interesting too see the outcome!
The Suzuki Jimmy's driver is already napping on top of the hill while these cars are trying to reach there.
Joe Cheang as clarkson said good mark for Suzuki
Hahaha agree😂
90% of the people who buy these cars won't even use it off roading
I was thinking the same thing...people dont buy range rovers...reliability issues...
that's pretty optimistic. try 98%.

Just use off-road tyres and they will do it much better

Best suv is the grand Cherokee hands down, after having owned 6 different suvs the grand is the best period and its not even close
The jeep driver is an incompetent
23k jeep against 90k+ suvs.lol at least put the grand cherokee trailhawk against them. That thing is a beast. And yes a better driver.
Conclusion:
If Gucci, Rolex and Louis Vuitton open their store on top of the hill, then all their customers will go there by Range Rovers.

I was really surprised by the Audi Q8. I wasn’t expecting that.
Unfortunately, not all Audi's all-wheel drive system works so well. In the next video featuring BMW X3, Jaguar F-Pace and Audi Q5, you will see for yourself.
Bye

@@Cef3axon1 why I should love audi? I am neutral to all cars

BMW X3 also will be with 2.0T
Land Rover Discovery also will be 2.0T
Range Rover Evoque also will come with 2.0T
Why Audi should be with 3.0 TFSI?
SUV Battle Because 2.0 engines are not supposed to be used in such terrain. Even 3.0 engine cars sent you message about transmission overheat. Should I still tell why not only Audi should be 3.0?
I had to pause the video just to say how excellent this video is 👍🏿...back to my show. 😁
The best is to have all the wheels connected to the engine and spinning together with fully lock diferencials, like the old Hyundai Galloper and Mitsubishi Pajero were, those things were unstoppable, much better than modern electronic 4x4 transmission.
Or program the thing correctly. Computer knows the speed of all the wheel yet doesnt try to equalize them
The thing is that these are mainly on-road high performance wagons with raised ride height.
THE AUDI Q7/8 😱👑
