God this takes me back to times at my grandparents house where I'd look at the screensaver for ages and played sonic and knuckles. Really touched me for some reason.

Bill Gates just thought it was ahead of it's time so he delayed it to later versions of windows. It was also gonna be a game on windows XP, but it was cancelled and replaced with solitaire.

From an artist's perspective I was SUPER influenced by the illustrations featured in this program and I have fond, comfy childhood memories of poring over the pictures in Sonic Mega Collection for *hours*. I distinctly remember the feeling that Ohshima's work instilled in me, how it made me want to dive inside those paintings and live in that world with Sonic & Co., it instilled a sense of wonder I don't think I had ever felt about another artist's work at the time. I remember it being the thing that made me truly aware of the power of imagery and visuals and since I already LOVED drawing and had been doing it practically since I was able to write my name, that was the thing that made me go "that's it, that's the thing I'm gonna do when I get older", and I've been drawing ever since! I'm a professional illustrator now and I have Naoto Ohshima and this humble collection of art to thank for inspiring my life's work. Thanks so much for making this video!

When we used to not have internet acess at home, i asked my mom to download for me some Sonic images for using as wallpapers, since she was going to a lan house. She came back with a CD with some images and wallpapers she found on a brazilian fan site called Power Sonic, some of these images were from Sonic Screen Saver. In 2012 i got a copy of Sonic Gems Collection for PS2 and discovered new images of SSS.
They're having a ceremony for the grand opening of that SEGA building in the background. The roses are celebratory, just as the balloons and festival like nature of the area
All that art really takes me back. I remember playing Gems Collection with my brother and going through the gallery trying to unlock all the pictures. I didn’t appreciate it as much as I do now

Also its faster to run smaller amounts of code so it also helps with the lack of ram in these pcs.
On MS-DOS, file names couldn't be longer than 8 characters anyways (excluding the extension). The real mystery is... why "Knack" and not "Knuck"? (Could be translation related, as Knuckles in Japanese is "ナックルズ", which romanizes to "Nakkuruzu")

I’ve been to Japan multiple times since this vid came out. Never looked for Harmony totally spaced on it.... but I did go to Joyopoljs which I had never heard of till Cybershell. That video going over Joyopolis had a major impact on my second trip to Japan.
