- This song is from Filmation's last film Pinocchio & the Emperor of the Night released in 1987. It is performed by Pinocchio's love interest Twinkle who's under the control of Puppetino.
The song is written by Will Jennings and composed by Steve Tyrell. The song is performed by Lana Beeson who voices Twinkle.

The song she sings probably reflects how she originally felt about her life, not wanting to be with her family but rather be famous and follow her dreams. So the puppet man gives it to her, but as a price turns her into a puppet
Success doesn't come easy. And even if you get it, in a culture where everything is manufactured, replicated, and carefully edited to appeal to the most people... Your stage persona becomes the "real" you as far as people are concerned.
Even as a child, I knew this little girl was trying to seek help and warn Pinocchio not to end up like her. It was so sad, I remember crying about it.
"You think I miss them? / my lifes a ball"
.... uh-huh, sure
it sounds like shes singing about her torture and how she wants to be freed....but the puppet master is controling her to make sound appealing to the crowd
or maybe he wasn't paying attention and care about what she said after all he is CONTROLLING HER
@@jackgreentheweirdonce-ler969 Her Face is pure NIGHTMARE FUEL when The Curtain closes on Her Face this Movie has lots of Nightmare FUEL images in it for no reason at all

I'm wondering if he can also use the girls voice bc pinocchio can hear her voice in his head when he's trying to lure him in
Such a bittersweet message
Catchy song. love how it ramps up the "free life", with only the single line "no one to hold you" in a slightly more somber tone, to hint at the regrets beneath
"In exchange for your free will: you can become famous and unaging and beloved by all." And only after does the girl inside the puppet realize she's just a slave.
Lyrics, for anyone who wants them:
New York to Paris,
London to Rome,
Dreamers and Dancers don't need a home.
Do what I want to, go where I will,
Take what I wish and tear up the bill!
Dreamin' and dancin', do what makes you happy,
Life of romancin', do what makes you happy,
No home to go to, no-one to hold you...
Mothers and fathers get in your way
Don't let you turn the night into day
Hugged you, and kissed you, no fun at all!
You think I miss them? My life's a ball!
Dreamin' and dancin', do what makes you happy,
Life of romancin', do what makes you happy,
No home to go to, no-one to hold you...
No-one to hold you now!
They forgot "COSTANTINOPOLI!"
Yup She Said Now"
Damian Freeman You know she sqid now.
This songs needs to be saved like a classic
I've just realised this song should really be viewed as a Companion Piece to Pinocchio's "I've Got No Strings" from the Disney version. Whereas in Disney, Pinocchio is singing about the joy of being free and "unstringed", here Twinkle is hinting at the sadness and loneliness of being free - yes, she can do what she wants, but ultimately she is on her own. The only other person in the crowd who understands this is Pinocchio himself.
I believe that Twinkle was once a real kid like Pinocchio who was transformed by the puppeteer like Pinocchio. In that case, this whole song is pretty much a cry for help.
I think she was. It's implied in the film that Pinocchio was the first puppet to become a "real boy", which is why the Emperor wants him to turn back so badly. They imply Twinkle is a prisoner rather than a puppet, so I think she was turned
@@georgemiser I believe so too
@@billydeeuk I don't think that She and Pinocchio are The only Ones Who got turned into Puppets I think that it has happened to lots of other People
@@billydeeuk The Emperor of The Night is TERRIFYING His Animation is so much better than anything else in this Movie and that is so amazing to know James Earl Jones Voices The Emperor
I love that pause after "no one to hold you" .... this isn't such a happy song is it?
Twinkle is defently inspired by that dutch puppet in the "i've got no strings" scene. They look pretty much the same and they both are a love intrest for Pinocchio.
I even saw once in a concept design that she was supposed to wear dutch wooden shoes.
Twinkle may be a girl puppet on the outside, but deep down inside, she’s a real little girl and she has feelings.
Which is the point I missed as a kid. She's one of countless lured with a promise of a quick road to stardom, then made a slave and a Judas Lamb.
In the ending she apparently said she was free so she must have been kidnapped by him@XX-sp3tt
Perhaps the strangest of all adaptions of Pinocchio.
Stranger than the 1996 one?

What about Pinocchio 3000?
Or sequel
@@johnnyd3158 There is also A Horror Movie called Pinocchio's Revenge which is pretty much A Ripoff of Child's Play I haven't seen Pinocchio's Revenge
Twinkle may be a puppet on the outside, but she’s a real little girl to Pinocchio on the inside.
This kicks the hell out of Disney's
i was obsessed with this song when i was little LOL
Me too

Still an awesome and actually deep meaning song :)

to be honest im actully was curious if pinocchio ever had a love interest, i mean imagine that... pinocchio in love, who would be able to steal our wooden hero's heart
Keep it in your pants, Pinoke. Looks like his nose isn't the only thing that can extend!
Good one, mate!

I’m so happy that the song "Do What Makes You Happy" was published 12 years ago. It was fantastic and very catchy. In 2017, the movie turned 30, and now in 2022, the movie turns 35 this Christmas. 🎄❤👍😘🥰
1:35: Poor Twinkle. I’d do anything more than you, Pinocchio. Don’t be a puppet again. You’re going to be good. I promise. ❤👍😘🥰
Twinkle may be a puppet, but she has feelings.
Who names their daughter "Twinkle" (unless they are fairies/elves/gnomes)?
Second, Pinocchio's crush on her would be less creepy if he was still a puppet.
And third, Twinkle basically doesn't exist through out the movie, she's only there for a few moments & turned back into a human at the end.
The fact that he was a puppet I think completely justifies this attraction. I don't know it's not that weird to me he was a puppet it's only natural that he could have that sense of humanizing projection upon them...
@@SpiderandMosquito What on earth where The Animators thinking putting so much NIGHTMARE FUEL into this Movie?
@@SpiderandMosquito I might be Wrong but I think that Twinkle was also turned into A Puppet and was Once Human at least I think so it kind of confirms that I guess in The Lyrics to The Song that She is Singing about not missing Her Parents
I think Twinkle is just her stage name given by the puppet master
Maybe because she was a puppet for so long she forgot her real name
she is like most of the Celebrities!
dummies on strings!

0:33 I think Twinkle left the stage. :D
It’s so weird that he’s simping at a puppet even though she is still real on the inside 😑
Wait how is she singing? Is it her real human voice trapped in her puppet form?? Sinister..
It's a recording.
@@keshiaanders6452 Probably of whenever Twinkle was Human I'm pretty sure that She was turned into A Puppet
0:55 SKIPPING"
actually this part is not too far off after all Pinocchio WAS ONCE a puppet y'know and she look pretty for a puppet just we get close ups of her dead lifeless expressions
I feel like this song would encourage any kid to run away from home. I'm not one to normally go "OMG ITZ DA DEVIL", but this song definitely entices kids to run away and start their own lives.
No. Try read into development psychology
Which is missing the entire point of the film. Twinkle is a Judas Lamb. She did exactly that, and literally became a puppet to entertain.
.... okay how is this weird to be honest think for a second why do you think it's weird? A human boy is crushing on a puppet.... did we all suddenly forget who this boy is? It's Pinocchio people he was a puppet! It would be weirder if his first crush wasn't a puppet... okay so maybe he's projecting a Humanity on to her but of course he would because well again he's a puppet who came to life. It isn't at all that weird
0:13 if someone makes those sounds at a Library I cover my head in SHAME.
It's on DVD in the UK.
