  • Scan of a 35mm trailer from my personal collection.
Truth be told, I've always been miffed by my color job and UA-cam's compression on my initial upload of this trailer. For whatever reason, I've been too lazy to go through with a new upload until now. I rendered in 2K to try and ease UA-cam's compression. In my opinion, it's still not as good as it should be, but I hope it's at least a little better.

The kid who voiced Pinocchio in this film, Scott Grimes, grew up to voice Steve on American Dad!

Hard to believe it’s been 35 years since I saw it in theaters at age 5 in St. Louis at the Jamestown mall and scared me pissless.
The eighties was a time when family movies had edge like this, black cauldron, dark crystal, labyrinth, secret of nimh, last unicorn and more

Yep, true :) Don't forget An American Tail, that's another dark animated film made back in the 80's.

I actually saw black cauldron in theaters when I was 3 as it was the first movie I saw in theaters.
I did saw American tail in theaters at 4 years old 2 times, I also saw and had my parents tape me Rock and Rule when I was 4 as it was PG rated from a rental tape and had my parents tape it for me off hbo at 5.
I remembered watching Wizards, Fire and Ice and Watership Down with my 11 year old brother when I was 5 as they were early exposures to adult animation as they were PG rated end my first exposures to graphic violence in animation movies.
I grew up with dark crystal, secret of nimh and last unicorn since I saw them on video at 4 and saw Labyrinth in theaters at that age with my big brother in St. Louis.
Yeah i saw and taped Heavy Metal, American Pop, Hey Good Looking and Vampire Hunter D off Cinemax when I was nine going on ten as I was too young to be watching those animated movies but I did anyway as I love animation even sci-fi and fantasy lol

As good as the movie is... ultimate the whole "New Classics" project was so ill conceived. There's so much stuff that they could've adapted in animation that either haven't been adapted properly or haven't been adapted at all and yet...
The Challenge of Cinderella - Just... why?!
Time Machine II: The Man Who Saved The Future - This could've been interesting as sci-fi was Filmations strongest point. Especially if they would've been able to make it tie into George Pal's adaptation.
Bambi: Prince of the Forest - As with Cinderella, what's there more to tell?
20 Million Leagues across the Universe - The book had never been done in theatrical animation so why a space take? And why not adapt some of others Verne's works? Like "Off on a Comet" which literally takes place in space!
Frankenstein Lives Again! - As if there weren't enough Frankenstein movies.
The Further Adventures of Gulliver - Question here is.. new adventures from scratch, or the stuff that hadn't been adapted?
The Son of Sleeping Beauty - WHY?! Does he have narcolepsy?!
    L. Frank Baum's The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus - Bizarrely THE ONLY direct adaptation in the entire project.
The Continuing Adventures of the Jungle Book - Pretty much same issue as with Gulliver, brand new story or chapters that Disney hadn't adapted?
New Tales of Arabian Nights - Why NEW when bunch of old ones hadn't been adapted?!
Alice Returns to Wonderland - Could've tackled "Through the Looking-Glass"...
Alas, we'll never know if they would've carried out a course correction... 8[
