This video took a fat minute to write and edit, so as a small channel, the support really means so much to me ❤. A couple notes covering things I've seen come up in several comments: 1) The FromSoft portion of the video begins at 12:50. Dark Souls III specifically at 17:15. 2) I have revisited Bloodborne and am nearly done with my platinum run through. 3) I have logged some serious hours into MGSV and love the game, although I am still under the impression it shipped with a significant amount of missing content. Also PLEASE give me some feedback on what game you’d want to see covered in this essay style format. I’m currently thinking TLOUII?
Sekiro and Lies of Pinocchio are both worth of this format. LOP is smth between Bloodborne and Sekiro, best of both. And i'm happy that someone had a similar or almost the same story (experience) as me, meaning ER and then DS3. I've just googled more, so i wanted to to beat ER without summons and fancy weapons, wanted to beat game just with quality build and nothing fancy for first time. The guys on reddit and discord said magic and stuff was good for second playthrough, so that was my meta, to play it as basic dark souls. It was "little" harder, and took me 2x more time, like 120 hours to fully complete game, but all the time was 10x more worth it. Best achviement for me was killing Malenia with the "Let me solo her" style. It took me 2 weeks like 2-3 hours a day. But that satisfaction
Epic video bro! Thank you. I’m yet to play Dark Souls 3. But I’m looking forward to it. I started the same way you did. Except I also skipped Elden Ring after it smashed me around for an hour. Now I’m back and loving Dark Souls 1. I’m starting from the beginning and I’m hooked.
Nearly beating an insane hard boss first try and then entering a downward spiral for hours or days is definitely one of the most rewarding and frustrating feature of ds3. Welcome brother to the club of nameless king beaters
@struggleryoutube I don't about him being a "breeze" tough guy, but I can't argue with the fact that midir is the hardest boss in the game possibly all the games including elden ring. I haven't actually fought him even once but his difficulty is the stuff of legend. Also haven't made it to gael either both of these look more difficult than nameless king for sure
@@struggleryoutube Nameless King took me 20 tries, Midir took me one. Level 107 I believe when I fought Midir. The true joy in Dark Souls is that we all have a different experience with different bosses. My build btw was STR Greatsword, a classic.
@struggleryoutube obviously midir will be harder because he is a dlc boss. But nameless king is not easy lmaooo he's harder than the soul of Cinder, the actual final boss of the base game
He said he searched for how to do things in ER. Theres a lot of guides in internet telling you builds, locations order etc, that will give you a really short time to platinum the game. But at the end of the day its just a guy following instructions on how to solve his puzzle, then he can show it to his mother as if he did it.
Beated ds3 with almost 2 dlcs in 25 hours, stuck in midir rn but its the last Boss i need to kill, not my first playtrough tho but yes my first time to end the game
bro I wonder how people struggled against him his moves where easy to read, I beat him on my second try but then again I did Guts build so my dmg was high on crack
@@Gatonessmeowgato I switched to the Dragonslayer Greataxe, got it to +5 and beat both phases with only it's weapon art on my first try with that weapon.
Beating Sekiro back then made me realize I had to go back and try the other FromSoft games and I started with DS3. What an awesome experience it was. Now I can't even enjoy casual games.
I wish I could experience Dark Souls III for the first time again. Exploring Untended Graves for the first time is my favorite moment in video game history.
@@overused6632 A couple minutes is certainly enough to judge any piece of media! And I say that as someone who, like you, suffered severe brain damage during a car accident.
For me it's Bloodborne. Reaching Yahar'gul Unseen Village for the first time was an unforgettable experience. Or discovering the Fishing Hamlet after beating Lady Maria in the DLC. Man, Miyazaki is a goddamn wizard. These aren't just games, they're works of art.
My first playthrough was 80 hours and I didn't get a lot of the achievements. Is there anything extra that would take up a lot of time needed for the platinum trophy?
@@kurdtcoben by FAAAAAAAAAAAAR, gael took me 3 tries, fantastic boss but slightly overrated, the best part about the fight is the arena and music, NK took me an hour or 2.
Fights like your fight with the nameless king are where we got "git gud" from. It applies to many aspects of the souls games and it's pretty solid advice.
@@eted2some people use it as a toxic meme, but, in nature, it is the simplest way of saying, "Do better. Surpass your limits, right here and now and force yourself to improve beyond what you thought was currently possible." because quite honestly, sometimes, that's the only advice we can give. You have to get good and you can only get good through repeated failure.
To be fair i stuck with my beginner dual swords throughout my fist playthrough. Kinda did the same for elden ring tho i did switch to that cool lighting spear
I’m obsessed with DS3. I use to be just a FIFA & COD player. I arrogantly dismissed Dark Souls as unplayable and a waste of one’s time due to it’s difficultly. A friend of mine showed me the trailer which uses the song In The Woods Somewhere for Dark Souls 3 and the atmosphere and visuals really caught my attention. Once I tried it there was no turning back. This game changed my life.
It was after watching the video and really loving it that I realized it didn't have thousands upon thousands of views! Which was shocking. Because you were great, the video you made was simply great. Excellent writing, excellent pacing, rewarding arc in the story you told, amazing insight into gaming history. But my favourite was the very clear and bold text sprawl towards the end. You inspired :) you did it
I'd like to echo that sentiment, you did a great job on the video and if you keep it up I don't see how you won't end up with a substantial amount of subs. I'm now one of them
I’m in full agreement. DS3 is by far my favorite game, and the journey I went on to complete it was incredibly altering for me on a personal level. Great video my dude.
The feeling I get when playing this game (even in comparison to the rest of FromSoft's games) is indescribable! I have literally never experienced something like this in all my years of gaming! I love this game with all my heart! Keep up the great work!
Could have followed a guide. The game can be finished with most content done in around 40-50 hours if you're good, then the ng rushed to get alternate endings, etc.
You tell a compelling tale. I’ve struggled to explain what these games are like to people who don’t get it, and you hit on a lot of what goes through my head but I can’t quite nail down. Such a good video. Never heard of you, but subbed.
You put into words what I wasn't able to multiple times in a single video. Thank you. I hope your life goes into the direction this masterpiece has set you to. Sekiro is also an amazing experience with much of the same virtues. The people who can't experience Dark souls III definitely feel like they hold lesser value, just look at the top comment of this video. It's a blessing we are this fortunate and live in this era. Also the DLC the ringed city is one of the best expansions ever made in a lazy DLC ridden world. Truly a testament to what gaming can be, and what it sadly is.
Not even gonna lie, this video brought a tear to eye with how introspective it made me feel. Dark souls is a series that will always be special for me, seeing that others can construe a message so similarly out of it is inspiring. Absolutely fantastic video man, excited to see more from you
I am experiencing the same with Bloodborne. Any accomplishment I want, I have to put in the blood, sweat, and tears to obtain. Analyze the enemies I get stuck on an study their moves to find their patterns. With the lack of a shield or many ranged weapons, the only way forward is to be aggressive but not greedy. And most importantly, don’t be afraid to lose or fail. The gameplay is challenging yet also intoxicating, the story and lore are hidden yet also deep. This game is truly an awe inspiring experience.
I love that feeling in these kinds of games. When at the beginning you're like, "I don't think I can do this". And then after a few tries, you get the hang of more and more moves. You change from a passive mindset to a more active and aggressive one. Before you know it, you're at the final boss going "I know I can beat this."
You couldn’t have felt more altered by the experience of platinuming Elden Ring in 65 hours after looking up tips and tricks. I feel safe in suggesting you probably didn’t even see half of what the game had to offer and if you’d actually discovered it all with no help or assistance, you could certainly have felt more altered.
I agree about the 65 hours, but the quests are so convoluted and vague it would be impossible without guides telling you where npc’s are, how many times you need to speak to them, what random unrelated item and what you need to do with it etc. You would miss out on like 3/4 of the game.
Honestly really good video, despite some comments I really like the longer intro about modern gaming and agree with you fully. There are so many games that have changed my life, the likes of which being souls games, red dead, and undertale. I started playing games after a long time to get through a rough patch in life and what’s kinda sad is one of my happiest moments in life was beating the nameless king after 108 tries (really bad I know I had a crappy build) I was literally crying and barely breathing. DS3 has definitely had an impact in my life and how I approach problems and things I need to do. And holy crap Skyrim and GTA V were my first non Nintendo games ever and I’ve been a all platform gamer since, I just relate to you on everything you say. You put everything I’ve thought about dark souls 3 into words your a really good writer dude. I don’t know if this comment is coherent I’m very tired.
This is potentially one of the best video essays I've seen on this topic. And I would say - not just this topic - but rather also on the intricacies associated with it. I was cooking while I listened to your work. I peeked to my left, to where the monitor was, every now and then, and I was very much enthralled throughout. You had me nodding my head several times and giving me several aha moments before the video ended. There were even points when I stopped what I was doing for a few seconds out of a minor eureka shock you had given me. You were able to link so many concepts together quite clearly: concepts I myself hadn't really thought of before. One of these were points were on the entities competing for our attention. I never really did think of that before, but it makes so much sense. Your choice of music also is quite potent and fitting throughout. Except for the minor lack of audio towards the very last seconds of the video, everything was immensely, professionally well made. Beautiful work, beautiful work. And I am excited to hear more from you. And I am excited to see you blossom onward alongside your contemporaries. You very much deserve it. You have earned yourself a follower and subscriber.
I was a freshman in college the first time I beat Dark Souls 1. I was home for Christmas, and we had just buried the family dog that afternoon. This was not the first pet I had lost, and part of me had grown numb to the experience. I was sad, but it didn't render me immobile for the day like it had rightly done to others in my family. I had lost to Gwyn a few times, and I had built an attachment to Solaire. So I summoned him. That was not an immediate fix. But on the last fight, I was one hit from going down. I don't know exactly what happened, but what I think happened was Gwyn's targeting shifted to Solaire right before he was going to hit me, and Solaire went down instead. That gave me enough time to use an Estus, then I moved in and managed to defeat Gwyn. Solaire dying allowed me to continue the fight, and finish it. That finally broke me, and I was crying through the final scene and the end credits. I'm not one to sit through credits in most media, but Dark Souls earned my attention. I have other moments like that through other Souls games, but the only equally profound one was when I beat Bloodborne. I had owned it since launch, but I had not beaten it until 2020. I was living with some friends from church, and they were out of town for the weekend. The month of October, I challenged myself to start Bloodborne from scratch and complete it before the first of November. My father is big on lunar calendars, and that same weekend was when Christ was actually supposed to have been born according to the lunar calendar. So he and I agreed to read through the Gospel of Luke in 3 days, each night calling each other and discussing our thoughts on it. Bloodborne is not a Christian game, but the juxtaposition of comparing a Gospel of my faith with a game featuring themes that can be seen as critical of it provided me a lot of space for thought. I very much still am a practicing Christian, and that weekend has a lot to do with it. I am certain Miyazaki did not intend for any game he made to strengthen someone's Christian faith specifically, but I have to imagine that provocation of thought was absolutely the goal.
This is a high quality product made with passion that has been blessed by a faithful souls lover. I keep coming back to watch the 'I have to focus' part. It reminds me... everything? People's evergrowing laziness, the Uncle Iroh's humility, shame and pride quote, Ippo's resilience to get back up every time even tho he is brutally beaten, humanity's growing weakness that makes us run away from the truths and ignore our ignorance instead of acknowledging truths and trying to be better. That part... is just perfect.
bro comparing mgsv to watch dogs or no man's sky reveals he truly don't understand mgsv. mgsv is unfinished? yes, kinda. does it fulfill the story gaps on the saga? yes, it does. does kojima wanted to create a masterpiece game but Konami wasn't inclined to let him do it? yes, definitely
Good video so far but I would offer the critique that you spend far too much time on your opening statement and getting to the actual DS3 piece. Anyone clicking on this to watch a DS3 video and not expecting to see a video essay on the decline of gaming is going to be very disappointed.
I feel this is an issue with most content creators. While I applaud taking the time to set the scene and properly insert the subject into context, there's too much of this masturbatory "essay" mentally that goes on and on to add faux gravitas. It's like trying to avoid the "style over substance" situation, only that too much substance becomes style, ironically. Detail is good as long as it's focused. Get to the point, less is more, etc.
I genuinely agree with this criticism of the video as it currently stands. Thing is, from my end, it's more of a title/thumbnail issue than the content of the writing. The video was initially titled "How Dark Souls III Defeats Modern Gaming". I was hoping this would create the expectation that some of the video would be about "modern gaming". Unfortunately, UA-cam wasn't showing the video to people with this title, so I switched it to something more concise and "click-able". The video covers multiple topics and it's hard to put that all in a short title. I did my best and i think the result is still not optimal, as you pointed out. It was a good learning experience for me to think of the thumbnail, title and entire essay from a viewer perspective, and stick closer to one topic next time. Thanks for your feedback and for watching : )
Idk, I really liked the random facts that I didn't know about, I think it was a great start but I also watch videos while doing something so maybe it just depends who watches it (subbed)
Take a look at Gothic 1 and Gothic 2, games made more than 20 years ago by Piranha Bytes, the developers behind Elex. Those games had open living worlds, like Witcher 3 and somewhat primitive souls fighting mechanics. And they were in competition with Elder scrolls 3 Morrowind, the Bethesda lore behemoth. They were even surpassing Morrowind in the fact that there was no loding screen ever, and all the characters and creatures had lives of theyre own. Even today we dont get games like this, not to mention more than 20 years ago. Nice video 🥂
First video i’ve seen of yours and I’m blown away that you’re not a larger content creator. As a long time souls fan, thank you deeply for making this video. Subbed 👍🏼
My experience was almost the same as yours. I started with Sekiro but dropped it because it was too hard for me at that time. Then Elden Ring was released. I tried it immediately and it really hooked me up for tons of hours, until I got stuck on some parts. I then looked for tutorials, tips, and tricks until I beat the game. I come back to Sekiro but am still looking for a guide on UA-cam. I really got interested in the Dark Souls series next, I beat DS 1 and 2, but I am still following Cowboy playthrough on UA-cam. Then, when it comes to Dark Souls 3, I want to really experience this game by myself, no guide, no tips or tricks, just a blind playthrough by myself, and god, I'm really glad I'm doing that. Now I can feel why Dark Souls is a masterpiece. It was a game that you should experience, explore, and learn by yourself. You level up together as the game character, and it will give you the most satisfying and unforgettable gaming experience.
I’ve been stuck on this boss for like 3 months now … I put the game down and stopped playing but watching your video gave me the encouragement I needed to pick it back up and keep grinding thanks 🙏🏾 💯💪🏿🔥
8:34 how did you play Forbidden West in 2021 when it didn’t release until 2022?????????? Also any souls game, not just Dark Souls 3 can help save you, but the true thing needed to save you is you. And lastly I do all the boss fights without the spirit summons, except for the foreskin duo, because I like the harder challenge, and Malenia is 1 of the 3 hardest bosses I’ve ever fought imo, alongside Orphan of Kos and Sword Saint Isshin. Lastly I’m playing through DS3 again and beat the game, fighting Nameless King rn, then I’ll go to the DLCs and I hope I finish b4 SOTE. And that boss fight like the Nameless King for you, were Orphan of Kos, Malenia, and Isshin are the 3, so far, for me
Dark souls 3 is my first soulsborne game, I’m still on my first play-through and I felt so connected when listening to you struggle with him. I challenged the king to defeat him flawlessly even though I had never beaten him before. As a sign of respect to the game and its design I decided to truly learn the fight and become better, yesterday I finally was able to beat him and the satisfaction and relief was like none other. I truly felt like I overcame a challenge, while gaining an even deeper appreciation for the game. I have fallen in love with this game and look forward to playing every soulsborne. Times are rough rn, and I have decided to become better each day little by little, DS3 and hollow knight have unironically helped me and encouraged me to keep struggling no matter what I short, the tittle of this video is no exaggeration, dark souls saved me I encourage you to keep making content for your work is of high quality, godspeed
Masterpiece video. Instant sub. You got me thinking abt ds3, honestly, gonna have to replay it I was stuck on the nameless king for literal months, eventually beat it while my gf was watching :) unforgetable memory
Dark Souls 3 was my first From Software game, and I'll never look back. It changed me on a deep level, and you just can't put it into words. It truly rescued me from the depression and loneliness that filled my life at the time. I can confidently say that I am a better person for having played it.
I have a deep secret with the nameless king, I did not beat him on fair ground. During the second phase, he glitched on me and started to slow walk to me. I took the opportunity and started throwing fireball at him. Soon enough, he fell before me, but I felt hollow in the victory. I deep down, i still feel like he is waiting for me to finish the fight properly.
Go and beat him. On my third run I first thought that I have already beaten him so I don’t need to do it again. But I changed my mind quickly and decided to beat fairly every optional bosses. Felt good.
I’ll definitely have to get back into it. I started playing it a couple years ago beat the second boss and just never got around to playing it again because of other things coming out or personal happenings. Thanks for making this video.
BROOOO!!!! This is like what I’ve been thinking but never really had words to put it to. Thanks for making this vid. I love the souls games and I started off on DS1 but as you did I also had to put away my pride and watch some videos. But there were others that after I got used to playing it, it was easier. I love how you put on the reflection of yourself and how you need to change your style of gaming. Thanks for this brother. This video makes me feel appreciated for what I’ve done in the game and who I am and the mindset that we have to go to in order to beat “THAT” Boss lol
Wow. In in utter shock. You put everything I have been feeling since i beat this game at 13 into words. For years I have lectured my friends and family on why ds3 is truly something else, yet i was never quite able to convay the sheer gravity of what i meant. Maybe it was this very feeling of uncompleteness that drove me to talk about it over and over again. Even to the point where my family had to ban talking about it during dinner time. And here it is, the reason why Dark Souls 3 is more than any piece of media I’ve ever encountered, expressed in words. I’m still firmly of the belief that it must be experienced to be understood, but this feels like it at least somewhat captures some essence of what makes Dark Souls 3 like a religious experience. At least for me anyway. Thankyou.
This is so crazy, I'm struggling with the Nameless King right now myself. I haven't played in a couple days because of it. Right now I was just watching random videos on UA-cam, zero game related videos, and saw your video pop up. Crazy coincidence. And I played elden ring first and went into DS3 a couple weeks ago. Good video dude. Such an amazing point regarding how we're being pushed to become perfect. It was like an epiphany hearing you say that
Man you perfectly described how I became absolutely addicted ds3 back in 2017. Entire summers spent playing, don’t regret any of it, stopped playing cod since bo3.
This is an incredibly beautiful video. I've never heard someone put into words the way that dark souls changes its players so fluently, You should be proud of making something so touching. I think the original Dark Souls blow you away with its world and structure. Excited to watch more 👏
The emphasis on instant gratification and its ramifications to media, and entertainment as a whole was so refreshing. I'm glad to see these points so exceptionally explained.
Not a fan of the Bloodborne hate, otherwise nice video, though i personally would prefer if you didnt focus on other games for so long, when the souls games were the main point
This video helped me understand why so many feel so strongly about these games. Deeper meaning is found through suffering and perseverance. But games can also still be fun for the sake of fun without being meaningless.
I save scummed right after beating Elden Beast to get ending 1 and 2. Running through the game on NG+1 to get ending 3 was very quick compared to first playthrough.
To be fair, he said he used guides. Beating the first run in 65 hours is pretty quick but with a guide to tell him exactly where to go plus tell him what builds are broken and using summons, its not so crazy of a feat.
@@scopecreep_And collected all ashes, legendaries, sorceries...nah, cap, esp saying you finished it twice in ng+. Even with a guide. Why are you lying here and souring your good work? Just be honest.
Bro that was my least favorite of the franchise. The lack of magic and fantasy killed it for me I rather like cosmic horror and hp Lovecraft it just didn't feel good to play for me.
Why can't anyone praise souls games without being utterly delusional and pretending that 99.9999% of modern gaming is some fucking gacha hellhole with 1 good game every blue moon?.. Also... why are we pretending that souls games are this insane life altering march through hell like it's a right of passage to being a higher lifeform? These games are undoubtedly hard, but at the same time it's like a 100hr game at most.. the boss you die to a 100 times, each attempt is like 2min. It's so ironic when the most popular genre today is competitive games whether its shooters or mobas, if you're hardstuck gold in league, valo, or any other game, getting to plat is literally more time consuming, more stressful, and harder than finishing the entire soulsborne series, so idk why you aren't praising those games when your biggest point is "instant gratification bad". Can't help but think all those "DS saved me" vids are a roundabout way to stroke one's ego by saying "I gitted gud" without sounding pretentious, and of course the mandatory reason of chasing the algorithm since cultish vids around fromsoft gets cultish support.
TLDR; Elden Ring proves to be the most successful title.. bringing the soulsborne genre to the mainstream Filthy casual gits gud Dark Souls III is a masterpiece
I tell people ever since I've beaten ds3, I'm better at everything. It was the first game I ever played that didn't have an out except for getting good, and it made me a dramatically better gamer afterwards. Your last line of the games swallowing you whole and spitting a new person back out is spot on. These games changed my life, and it showed me how to spot a good game from a bad one.
I highly doubt you platinumed Elden Ring in 65 hours of your first playthru. Press X to doubt. 165 hours would be more realistic. You have to get at least 3 separate endings to platinum.
You literally mirrored my entire life. Gaming when I was younger, same games, same thoughts even same when talking about deleting Horizon Zero Dawn. Shits kinda crazy
Let’s be honest. It’s not gonna rescue you but it’s just gonna distract you from the sad reality of your life. It’s gonna occupy your mind for a while so you’re not constantly thinking about your real problems in the real world.
It's awesome you brought up that you were frustrated and found tips that weren't an easy button you were looking for. Im a perfectionist and I have a VERY short temper, which is a bad combination for this game. I never finished it because i didnt have the patience. Now that im a little older I'm playing through DS1 and being patient. Im not getting angry and I'm taking deep breaths. This type of game actually teaches you instead of juat being a bunch of bosses with awesome move sets. You have to earn it by being better.
It’s not a flex, it’s what the fans of these games love. Overcoming an overwhelming challenge. Everyone starts somewhere, who cares if it’s the only one he’s played?
Holy shit dude what an amazing video. i never expected this when i clicked on it. i am so glad to hear other people put into words what we all experience with these games.
Platinumed Elden Ring in 65 hours? I highly doubt it is possible without following a guide at EVERY STEP!!. If you did just that, then it is just "hand-holding". But you talk like you like Elden ring because it does not hold your hand at every step.
I would love to hear your take on Sekiro next as it takes the more focused bespoke design to an extreme. Not saying it is better or worse than any of their other titles, just talking about it being extremely focused, to the point of having a single weapon.
A profound reaction to a piece of art isn’t goofy, it’s beautiful. Even if you didn’t have the same reaction to this one, I’m sure something else has made you feel similar. If not, I’m sad for you and hope you find one soon!
i have over 30 years of experience as a gamer, i've played everything from rts, rpgs, racing, fps, 2d, you name it. dark souls 3 is one of the best games i have ever played. it really is a masterpiece.
You should be talking about dark souls 3. But it's more than half way and I've heard call of duty, Skyrim and Uncharted way too many times. Also you mentioned something about games being art and then went onto tangent about previously mentioned games for 20minutes. I don't know what am I watching. Pass
All points are accurate except for kojima one. The game was unfinished because Konami held assets and passwords from kojima and his team preventing completion of the game
I almost didn't click on this, and then I almost didn't watch it; the bit at 2:26 had me thinking you were about to talk about a sponsor. I know people have to make their money, but at that moment I really wasn't interested. But it wasn't a sponsor, it was the introduction to one of the sharpest and most concise lampoons of the industry from 2013-2020. Truly, the only thing missing was the inclusion of shitting on games as a service and early access titles. Would have loved to have heard that here. This was really great man. The bit about being an American consumer really resonated, although I'd add this: My daily job doesn't ask me to focus this much on something as tantalizing as clashing blades with something much more monstrous than myself. Games like DSIII allow me experience these truly larger than life moments within myself. You do touch on that as it goes on - it was wonderful to hear from somebody else that experiences like DSIII push us more than most films, literature, and music. In fact I've long held the opinion that Sekiro stands up to and surpasses much of the best of other mediums and is probably the greatest game ever for me. You should check it out, from one DS3 fan to another. Even if you don't, this was a fantastic video man. Lastly, two things: 1. I think the scrolling text at 25 minutes should have been at the beginning, because while you encourage someone who hasn't played DSIII to play it themselves, you just spent much of their earlier time sort of spoiling many moments. 2. A list of music used would be appreciated!
Liked the video and what you had to say, but throughout the entire thing every second sentence you say gives off a very strong impression that you just try way too hard to be artistic and poetic. It distracts from the point and even weakens it, making it seem like an exaggeration. I hope you notice this and tone it down in future videos. This video did well in spite of the tryhard poeticism, not because of it.
Dark Souls 2 may have been my first Souls game I played but Dark Souls 3 is the first one I finished. At the time, I was going through a lot of apprehension and curiosity about these games but I was also feeling burnt out on RPGs as a whole. Diving into these games saved my love for RPGs by reminding me that it's not about skill trees, level ups and perks; it's about the adventure.
This video took a fat minute to write and edit, so as a small channel, the support really means so much to me ❤.
A couple notes covering things I've seen come up in several comments:
1) The FromSoft portion of the video begins at 12:50.
My favorite games ever are Red Dead 2, Soulsbourne games, Fallout NV, and Undertale so I’m down for any of those
Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, still holds up gameplay-wise and there's so many different ways you can approach each mission
Sekiro please, absolutely amazing game!
I just subbed and commented. I would say BotW. I still think it’s the best Zelda tied with OoT.
Dark Souls 3 tells you it's okay to move on.
Pewdiepie 💀 nah I'm just kidding and you make pretty good vids by the way
Nearly beating an insane hard boss first try and then entering a downward spiral for hours or days is definitely one of the most rewarding and frustrating feature of ds3. Welcome brother to the club of nameless king beaters
nameless king was a breeze, dark eater midir was the real final boss
@@NO-LIVASwhat do you mean “i didn’t make it to” like you just quit the game?
@struggleryoutube obviously midir will be harder because he is a dlc boss. But nameless king is not easy lmaooo he's harder than the soul of Cinder, the actual final boss of the base game
65 hours to platinum? With ER being your second go at a Fromsoft game? Highly doubt it
Right.. it took me 100 hours to beat the game, and im a very experinced player.
He did say he used spirit ashes and magic. You can create some broken builds like that
He said he searched for how to do things in ER. Theres a lot of guides in internet telling you builds, locations order etc, that will give you a really short time to platinum the game. But at the end of the day its just a guy following instructions on how to solve his puzzle, then he can show it to his mother as if he did it.

Played Dark Souls III back in 2019 and somehow it did help me overcome the hardships of that time.
Same here... Dark Souls as a series taught me to overcome hardships.
When I saw the title i thought he would speak about dark souls way of helping people overcome depression.
I had a similar experience with Bloodborne.
The game crushed me, broke me down, and then rebuild me 😂
Sekiro helped me through Covid!

TLDR: He liked this game because an optional boss was very difficult.

I just bought it on steam sale and started another run.
DS3 is not my fav, but it got me into the genre after i could not get into DS1 and 2. Now i beat all of them except demon's souls
Got about 400+ hrs on DS3 and man it never got old when I had a PC it was always ready to play
The feeling I get when playing this game (even in comparison to the rest of FromSoft's games) is indescribable! I have literally never experienced something like this in all my years of gaming! I love this game with all my heart! Keep up the great work!
There is no fucking way you platinumed Elden Ring in 65 hours. Unless you loaded backup saves.
Could have followed a guide. The game can be finished with most content done in around 40-50 hours if you're good, then the ng rushed to get alternate endings, etc.
I heard him say that and came to type this same thing. I feel like he has to have meant to say 165 hours.
Too easy for Souls players.
Haha I thought the same
My plat took 400 hours , no guide

This comment plays nicely into the video lmao
@@RJ-ir9pj apparently bro did not catch the message 😂

Beginning with DS/DKS is the most unrepeatable experience.
This is how I started, agreed!
Sir! Great video essay, one of the best I've seen.
I’ve been a Souls fan for years, and I must say, thank you. You’ve articulated what I’ve always felt about these games far better than I could.
I see video appreciative of dark souls 3, i click it. Simple cause & effect. Maybe someone else can put to words how much i loved that game.
@@JACOTRAI still think the best way to go about souls games is to do the first playthrough blind and then look up guides in subsequent runs
Summing up your experience: git gud.

Smaller games with more focus and actual creativity. That’s what we need right now.
I was not expecting this video to be so fu**ing epic. Thanks man... Now i gotta play DS3
You platinumed Elden Ring with 65 hours?! HOGWASH! 😂
Great video!
Could've sworn I clicked on a ds3 video
Good video so far but I would offer the critique that you spend far too much time on your opening statement and getting to the actual DS3 piece. Anyone clicking on this to watch a DS3 video and not expecting to see a video essay on the decline of gaming is going to be very disappointed.
Delayed gratification dude
I feel this is an issue with most content creators. While I applaud taking the time to set the scene and properly insert the subject into context, there's too much of this masturbatory "essay" mentally that goes on and on to add faux gravitas. It's like trying to avoid the "style over substance" situation, only that too much substance becomes style, ironically. Detail is good as long as it's focused. Get to the point, less is more, etc.
it's called context
Dark Souls III I believe is my favorite game of all time. That game is beyond amazing. I can replay that game over and over and over again.
Subbed 👍🏼
glad you enjoyed it
My experience was almost the same as yours. You level up together as the game character, and it will give you the most satisfying and unforgettable gaming experience.
a video with such a high quality like this deserves way more appreciation.

Thankyou.

Your video inspired me to revisit my Soulsborne playthroughs with an additional though process, adding even more to the experience! Thank you!

Elden Ring proves to be the most successful title.. bringing the soulsborne genre to the mainstream

Weird flex but can tell it's the only souls game you played
It’s not a flex, it’s what the fans of these games love. Overcoming an overwhelming challenge. Everyone starts somewhere, who cares if it’s the only one he’s played?
Holy shit dude what an amazing video. i never expected this when i clicked on it. i am so glad to hear other people put into words what we all experience with these games.
Platinumed Elden Ring in 65 hours? I highly doubt it is possible without following a guide at EVERY STEP!!. If you did just that, then it is just "hand-holding". But you talk like you like Elden ring because it does not hold your hand at every step.
I will spread ur cheeks lil bro 😭🙏🏾🙏🏾I betta not catch you in my comments again or it’s finna gon be OVER for you 👾
I would love to hear your take on Sekiro next as it takes the more focused bespoke design to an extreme.
Not saying it is better or worse than any of their other titles, just talking about it being extremely focused, to the point of having a single weapon.
This video is goofy as hell
Just don't watch it
@@عبدالرحمنعلي-ث8ح how would I know it's goofy as hell if I didn't watch it first
A profound reaction to a piece of art isn’t goofy, it’s beautiful. Even if you didn’t have the same reaction to this one, I’m sure something else has made you feel similar. If not, I’m sad for you and hope you find one soon!
@@wrathfulsausage4884 ok wrathful sausage no need to shit yourself over a jokey comment. Goofy ahh comment
@@wil-o-the-wisp you should’ve just said “ok wrathful sausage” that would’ve been funnier tbh im high as hell and it would’ve cracked me up
The Dreams and Nightmares instrumental goes crazy, awesome vid man!
this writing is so bad man.
i have over 30 years of experience as a gamer, i've played everything from rts, rpgs, racing, fps, 2d, you name it. dark souls 3 is one of the best games i have ever played. it really is a masterpiece.
You should be talking about dark souls 3. But it's more than half way and I've heard call of duty, Skyrim and Uncharted way too many times. Also you mentioned something about games being art and then went onto tangent about previously mentioned games for 20minutes. I don't know what am I watching. Pass
The part where you compared the nameless king fight with whiplash is just so true when you think about it. Nice analogy.
It's just a game bro
All points are accurate except for kojima one. The game was unfinished because Konami held assets and passwords from kojima and his team preventing completion of the game
Your script is very verbose. I don't think you need to dig through the thesarus as much as its seems you have in this video.
