  • My RH park lamp went out and I found it really ridiculous and unpalatable that BMW used a low quality LED/LED driver assembly that is sealed in the lamp housing.
This required a $500CAD replacement taillight assembly from the dealer. They should sell these replacements for cost price as LED's should outlive the car based on even an average life expectancy.
If you are going to seal a lamp in an enclosure, it had better be the highest quality one that money can buy.
Anyways Rant about BMW's practices out of the way, I bought a full set of lights (all 4 pieces) online, they came off a 08 M3 coupe that were changed out for LCI lights. They will not fit the 07 convertible so I had to take them apart and reuse the led strip. The process is found in the video.
Only thing i have to recommend if someone wants to attempt this is to warm a knife and cut the plastic as this method will not create particles that will create a mess inside the lamp housing. I had to flush mine out then dry it with a heat gun thoroughly to get all moisture out.
After joining the wires and securing the LEDs in the housing with hot glue. it was sealed up and works as the original did.

I'm planning to mod these to look like 340i. By placing the 3 led strips close together and making one solid thick line. Whats the best way to completely disassemble the housing?

Hey man, good job.. got a similar issue with an E91, I think my best option is to split the lense as I have a replacement, is the hot knife the best way would you say?

I tried unsuccessfully to remove the lens. Warmed them up to the point that I could not touch them and they cracked with the smallest pry. Hot knife if you are cutting it, otherwise I dont know.

The lights crack very easily I wouldn’t recommend doing that

Not sure what LEDS could be used as replacements for these because there is a LED driver between the 12V supply and the LED itself. Also, they are a non standard head size, I think they are 4mm from memory. In my case however, it was the driver that was defective. So before you solder in new LED's, make sure your driver has an output or at least test the new ones before soldering them in place.

Did not measure the wattage on the LEDs. The problem with changing the LEDs to any different spec is that they are a non standard size and they have to be aligned by fitting in the lamp socket like a dowel. I tried other brighter LEDs, but the result was uneven light distribution.

J'ai pris la pièce de rechange d'une lampe à queue d'occasion qui fonctionnait. Je ne sais pas si un fournisseur pour le module LED.
