I think this is still one of the most accomplished cinematic sequences there's been, at least by Western game developers. It's one long tracking shot, and the way the background and narration blend is seamless, giving forward momentum to the sequence. Visually, well, it's wonderful to look at. All in all, it's really well directed.
@Sgt. Negative To be fair though the gameplay, although is polished and quite satisfying it is rather dull. Not a lot of mechanics or gimmicks that would separate it from most FPS games.
Killzone 2 is a remarkable achievement for the PS3. I feel comfortable saying it was ahead of it's time with dynamic lighting, particle effects, the way it used careful screen blur to enhance the visuals. This game actually renders shadows from objects illuminated by the light of gunfire. And the way gun models are slightly blurred along the stock to simulate it being in your characters periphery vision looks so good and cool. Plus the artistic vision was A+. Helghan looks like a horrible nightmare, with constant lightning and objects whipping back and forth to simulate intense winds.
This game deserves a remaster for so many reasons. 1. Great campaign full of battles and action 2. Amazing Storyline for those who havent played it 3. Online the most important reason why 4. Multiplayer on killzone was one of the best always in action battles every class had a unique perk towards gameplay so much fun game modes could last up to 30 minutes and you wouldnt get bored because you was always in a fight as ISA or the Helghast. Overall one of the best games by far I have ever played and its a shame to see kids now playing games like fortnite and haven't seen a proper game like killzone.
Drenching our ancestors graves with their blood; & as our last breath tears at their lungs, as we rise again from the ruins from our cities. They will know; Helgan belongs to the Helghast.
Underrated? Back when this came out EVERYONE was talking about it, it was the reason to get a PS3 along with God of War 3. Killzone Shadowfall plunged the franchise low sadly.
(chuckles) That's funny, but, in all seriousness, no. Killzone 2 is many things, but "underrated" is definitely not one of them. More like overrated. Killzone for PS2 and PS3, Liberation for PSP, Mercenary for PS Vita and, as much as it pains me to say it, but Killzone 3 for PS3 as well. Those 4 games have "underrated" written all over them in invisible ink. Killzone 2 and Shadow Fall, as beautiful as they look, are garbage. Plain and simple. They did nothing to improve on Killzone 1 and Liberation, focused WAY TOO MUCH on Graphics and Multiplayer, rather than Gameplay and ... that's it. So, you tell me how Killzone 2 is "underrated", based on what I've told you? It's not. Therefore, your comment is meaningless. ✌️
This was my fire killzone game and at first the intro felt cliche “here’s the bad guys, good guys coming to win the day” but then when it pans to Helghan on the surface and the ISA are getting wiped out I knew this series was different
The best Killzone to have ever been made. I miss playing this and almost throwing the controller out the window because I cannot defeat the colonel at the end.
I remember playing on the hardest difficulty, and I got stuck for like a month on the last level. At one point I just got up and said "fuck it, maybe if I just run and bash everyone.... seems to work in plenty of other games..." Well, bashing the enemy didn't workout too well, but I managed to sprint past every possible point(I think a few parts force you to clear the area) and I do recall almost the entire level being beaten by just sprinting. But then the final boss came. And I knew there wasn't anyway I could run past him. So i got stuck for a couple weeks on him, but eventually was able to just beat him, and my FUCKING GOD did it feel rewarding actually beating a tough video game for once lol
I remember watching this for the first time in the summer if 2010, little 12 year old me getting goosebumps over this incredible opening scene! It actually inspired me to become better at speeches and help me with delivery for a speech I needed to do in 2013, I got the highest marks! Thanks Killzone!
What I love about Killzone 2 is how it perfectly captures the arrogance of the ISA. These idiots naively believe that because they have the best weapons, that they will be able to naively crush the Helghast in a week. But the minute they land, the Helghast show that despite lacking in the military might of the ISA, they still have the will and determination to resist, and through that alone, they are able to squander the ISA's invasion. Sound familiar to anyone?
The sequence where they leave Vekta with the triumphant music playing always gives me Starship Troopers vibes. They have no idea what kind of a shitstorm they're about to wade into.
I was shocked when I realize Scolar Visari was voiced by Brian Cox (Agamemnon's actor in the movie Troy). Such a powerful delivery, I keep coming back to this intro scene to this day.
In reality both, helghasts and Isa are the bad guys, both in some way, there is no good side in the war only winners and losers, and the winners talk only about his side of the history.
@Zoomer Waffen Nah, in the series they really show how both are morally grey, both sides are genocidal, but the helghast are the ones opressed for centuries, while the ISA fed vektand with racist propaganda and has an interest in helghan, but at the same time not every vektan is to blame, nor is it just to kill every vektan
@Zoomer Waffen Says the guy making excuses for a Mussolini/Hitler knock off. The middle ground of both sides being bad has even been acknowledged in the very canon of the series. That's the perspective of those who played Killzone Mercenary and accepted the fact that both sides are shit and are just gonna butcher each other in a never ending cycle of blood. At that point, with all the atrocities and escalation committed by Helghan or Vektan, it doesn't matter who shot first, but that they both kept shooting.
@Zoomer Waffen no they solely aren't last time I checked the helgast where anything but pretty both sides where evil I've played 3 and 4 and the helgast did some fucked up shit in the 4th they took over the planet and forced the residents out or just for shits and giggles kill them not to mention they made terrible energy weapons in 3 that would cause your head to explode
@@kitchenjail3546 The UCN (United Colonial Nations) started the fire through stealing Vekta from the Helghan corporation shortly after it was colonised through their own funds and resources under the the leadership of CEO Philip Vekta whom the planet was named after, they installed the ISA (Interplanetary Strategic Alliance) as a puppet government and began relocating Earth settlers while deporting the then local Helghans to systematically replace its populance until the full eviction onto a nearby corporate mining colony on an inhospitable planet that makes present day Helghan, neither the UCN nor ISA will admit to these crimes.

Eh, technically the ISA did start the *war but the transgressions had been seeded way before that. - *The second extra-solar war was started by the ISA. They were getting anxious about the Helghast and they jumped the gun. The Helghast were egging them on because they wanted an excuse to invade and reclaim the original home. **The original war, the first extra-solar war, was initiated by the Helghast when the U.C.N. decided to backpedal on their deals with the Helghan Corporation. The I.S.A. managed to hold out via covert operations for nearly two years before the U.C.N. war fleet arrived. They proceeded to mercilessly crush any resistance and straight up nuked the capital of Vekta because the Helghast refused to surrender. The U.C.N. then placed the solar system under martial law and allowed several horrible things, funding a few others, to happen to the previous Helghan Corporation employees. Under the public and state-sponsored persecution, the survivors gathered their funding to renovate the original colony ships and performed the exodus you see in Killzone 1's intro.

I think this is still one of the most accomplished cinematic sequences there's been, at least by Western game developers. It's one long tracking shot, and the way the background and narration blend is seamless, giving forward momentum to the sequence. Visually, well, it's wonderful to look at.
All in all, it's really well directed.
Makkusu killzone is my favorite game franchise they are excellently executed. Definitely better than call of duty.
@Sgt. Negative To be fair though the gameplay, although is polished and quite satisfying it is rather dull. Not a lot of mechanics or gimmicks that would separate it from most FPS games.
Ahem... God of War 3 intro...
I just realized the ending with Visari covered in shadows is an homage to colonel Kurtz from Apocalypse Now lol
An intro you don’t skip, even seeing it for a hundredth time
Never skip, just like GT5 😂
developers take notes cause that's how you make a intro
You are goddam right
@Zoomer Waffen what
@Zoomer Waffen salty huh?
@@ItalyTordy saltier than a mcdonald french fry

The only thing that would make this intro even more godly
A Helghast campaign
This game deserves a remaster for so many reasons.
1. Great campaign full of battles and action
2. Amazing Storyline for those who havent played it
3. Online the most important reason why
If they ever do a remaster, I hope that such a remaster will have PC version.
Killzone was so Underrated it needs that PS5 remaster
No need for a remaster, just pop in the ps3 disc. It still looks great.
Mp kinda sucked..
5. Offline Bot support.
most epic intro ever
No doubt !
Saber King of Knights so true
Killzone 2 was the first game I played on PS3. Man, this brought back so many memories...
Thanks for uploading

NOW IS OUR TIME
This game is underrated
It wasn't that great but yeah it was really cool
Grossly underrated
Chris Burdick wow dude don’t be an asshole, it’s just an opinion.
Finally, someone who uploaded a good quality version without any other crap applied to it! Thank you!
I was about to say the same good Job m8! thanks a lot for this it's in great quality compared to the other videos floating around!
"Ever the diplomat, Rico"
This is what we call foreshadowing.
This was my fire killzone game and at first the intro felt cliche “here’s the bad guys, good guys coming to win the day” but then when it pans to Helghan on the surface and the ISA are getting wiped out I knew this series was different
As killzone rises again from the ruin that sony left it in .... they will know what a real fps looks like.
A Killzone complete collection is rumored to be released on both PS5 and PC later this year.
Powerful speech
The best Killzone to have ever been made. I miss playing this and almost throwing the controller out the window because I cannot defeat the colonel at the end.
he gave me hell lol. I quit playing for like a month but I was determined to beat him
And Rico's just standing there being utterly useless. Oh, yes, I remember. I remember very well.
He was easy on normal, but stepping up to hard was…well, hard.
I remember playing on the hardest difficulty, and I got stuck for like a month on the last level.
At one point I just got up and said "fuck it, maybe if I just run and bash everyone.... seems to work in plenty of other games..."
Well, bashing the enemy didn't workout too well, but I managed to sprint past every possible point(I think a few parts force you to clear the area) and I do recall almost the entire level being beaten by just sprinting.
But then the final boss came. And I knew there wasn't anyway I could run past him.
So i got stuck for a couple weeks on him, but eventually was able to just beat him, and my FUCKING GOD did it feel rewarding actually beating a tough video game for once lol
Colonel Radec
I remember watching this for the first time in the summer if 2010, little 12 year old me getting goosebumps over this incredible opening scene! It actually inspired me to become better at speeches and help me with delivery for a speech I needed to do in 2013, I got the highest marks! Thanks Killzone!
Ps5 needs to bring back Killzone. Imagine the crazyness with 4k60fps, haptics and 3d audio!
Pretty much every war that has ever happened begins with one or both sides saying "It'll be over quickly.".
You mean the Soviet Union kicking Nazi Germany all the way to Berlin?
The sequence where they leave Vekta with the triumphant music playing always gives me Starship Troopers vibes. They have no idea what kind of a shitstorm they're about to wade into.
Well this game is the definition of what happens when you completely underestimate your enemy.
Vietnam...Afghanistan... need I say more?
3:06 the ISA soldier on his knees with the pistol taking a shot to the body and head was such a well done cinematic
I was shocked when I realize Scolar Visari was voiced by Brian Cox (Agamemnon's actor in the movie Troy). Such a powerful delivery, I keep coming back to this intro scene to this day.
"Drenching our ancestors graves with their blood" chills every time
Visari is a genuinely amazing orator, his lines are great and the delivery is powerful.
Brian Cox is amazing
One of THE best first person shooters EVER.....PEROID!!
This hasn't aged a minute, still looks outstanding
I want the Helghast to win.
underlordd me too , in terms of lore they where the exiled by the vetkans
underlordd they already lost the war. They surrendered to the ISA shortly after the events of Killzone 3
Lol Nazis right?
Andrew Maddox false the isa actually surrendered first
Ahahah ahah but Helghast lose as always
Imagine you’re in theatres, and this scene is actually one of the previews showing before your movie.
These were and are still one of the best games ever made in my opinion.
When you realize your playing as the bad guys.
True !
The best intro ever. The best multiplayer ever.
"...and as our last breath tears at their lungs, As We Rise Again from the ruins of our cities...they will know, Helghan belongs to the Helghast".
No one can argue against the fact that the Helghast are the heroes of Killzone.
They really aren't - they started the whole thing. Although it's the fault of their leaders, not their people.
@@kitchenjail3546 they didn’t start the war
@@sunnykwong8801 facts!
Or you can take the perspective of those who played Killzone Mercenary and accept the fact that both sides are shit and are just gonna butcher each other in a never ending cycle of blood. One of the best cinematic intros in history
We really got spoiled. How were we supposed to know when this came out that we were getting one of the best shooters of all time? This game set my little kid expectations so high that a lot of other games became disappointing by comparison.
Same here with kz3, my first fps game, and then no game felt as polished graphically or gameplay wise until like BF4
The best cinematic trailer ever created
I remember playing this game in 2014 to 2015. I was like 14 to 15 years old. Will always remember this game.
Scholar visari, even though you’re a ruthless dictator, your speeches makes me want to fight for the higgs.
“We will shatter their dreams and haunt their nightmares.” That line is so epic and it came true
"We are going in with first wave...Means more helghast for us to kill. You smash the entire area, you kill anything that has red eyes, do you get me ?!"
Moments later: 2:38
0:43 ISA bullshit starts
2:02 ISA bullshit ends
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, SONY...YOU (Guerrilla Games) NEED TO MAKE A REMAKE/REMASTERED OF THIS GAME, PLEASE!!!!!
No, the ISA started this war without reason.
Pizza Galore lol no they didn't
ragemonkey117 they did start it
technically its the UCN that is the root of the problem
They didn't
Eh, technically the ISA did start the *war but the transgressions had been seeded way before that.
-
*The second extra-solar war was started by the ISA.
Sons and daughters of Hellghan the Universe may have forgot about us but today is a memorable day in our history.
Super Earth have recognized our military might and has call for our aid in the defence of the galaxy and freedom against alien, machine and parasite invasion. And the hellghast people will answer the call.
this may sound strange for you. To fight for our oppresors but believe in me, Scholar Visari, that this is an unique opportunity. The enemy cannot imagine what awaits them! This is our chance to step out of oblivion and claim our rightfull place in the universe! To fight for our freedom against tirany! To unleash such terrible vengance!!!..
I mean... to fight for democracy.
My people... I call for you strenght once more! Gather our weapons. Stand united once more! Fight as one hand, one heart, one soul! Make our voice resonate across the Galaxy once more!
Brothers and Sisters! NOW IS OUR TIME!!
The game is 14 years old. Hard to belive. I remember those goosebumps when playing it for the first time as it was included in my ps3 set when I was about 11. Graphics is still quite good compared to modern games. I know that there were some tricks used to make it look better, but compared to modern game played on average modern PC it looks very solid. Technology has slowed down. There isn’t such difference between ps3 and ps5 as there was between ps1 and ps3
Miss old days😢
This is still in 2018 the best trailer ever made!
I legit love this game, it was the first game on the ps3 that I played and its so nostalgic
Unbroken Speech.
"My People...Sons and Daughters of Helghan...This much, I vow; The history of these days shall be written in blood. By crushing the armies of our enemy, by seizing the weapons they thought to turn against us, we are fighting for our very existence.
But if there are those who would deny us peace, refuse us our rightful place in the Universe, then, We will unleash such terrible vengeance, that generations, yet unborn, will cry out in anguish!
The Enemy may shatter our bodies, but they cannot break our spirit. Even now, they advance on our home world, to seize by force, what they cannot claim by right.
They cannot imagine what awaits them...

Over a decade and the CGI and the gameplay still holds up. 🌹
Best intro ever.
One of the most underrated games of last gen in my opinion. Clan battles were ahead of it's time I feel.

Goosebumps

This game needs a movie
In a Helghast Perspective.
i always loved how it seemed like the invasion would go smoothly based on how a bunch of ISA ships easily nuked some Helghast ships from orbit only for one of those ships to get struck out of friggin _orbit_ over Helghan
Now that I think about it if this ever did happen we'd be the guys in the middle of the rallies listening to this speech

I absolutely love the multiplayer in this game it was so awesome especially when your sniping.
