In a single cutscene the Helgast are given more personnality and more depth than the other side was given in the whole franchise. It's no wonder why everyone wants to play as them and see things from their side.
The helgast rifle was better. The extra shotgun shell was clutch at times...and yeah, the helgast were cool AF too
Speak for yourself, the Helghast are obviously fascists... BTW that was on purpose, to make you question your actions and the war. That was this franchise' message, uncertainty about war
@@frisianwarrior2295 who fucking cares that they are fascists, It's a fucking video game.
@@frisianwarrior2295 Oh yeah I forgot that justice and revenge were synonyms for fascism
@@Quick_footy1 Are you sarcastic or not? Because in both cases your comment doesn't make sense. I'm gonna go with sarcastic: the whole idea behind the nazi party was to seek revenge for the Versailles treaty, they even recreated the affair with the same train during the French surrender and then blew it up. Fascism and revenge go hand in hand. Even their 'revenge' on the jews, even though the jews had done nothing to them.
Girls: and that's why you should elect me for class president
Boys:
Lol
This is a speech to motivate your people.
lol
My people...
The whole class, including the teachers would vote him.
It was an Honor to play this at such a Young age... Amazing graphics, combats and Story.
Scared the shit out of me as a kid seeing glowing eyes in the Dark everywhere...
I feel the same way
I thought I was the same way when playing it. Scared the shit out of me but I HAD to finish it.
Played this as a 10 year old and I still remember this speech so well ... I’m 18 now btw
I played this game as a 4-5 year old....Was scary for me too cuz if the glowing eyes and a bit dark presented Helghast. I wish I can play this game now, I would love to play it every day just cuz ut's God damn the best game I've ever played.
Same but I was a brave kid I didn't leave the R2 button :P
12 people need to be re-educated to our cause.
At least 4 of them will be kept alive, or we assume from only seeing two getting shot
47 ISA scumbags dont like this video
Make 51
Now 54
59 apparently
The first part's so powerful, you can just feel what the Helghast went through. Amazing voice acting, just amazing
I love that nodding heavy gunner
I love how Visari put his hands on the table and look down. Imagine how many things he had in mind
Yeah true
666 like i aint gonna ruin it
More power to him.
Anyone else disappointed that the Helghast weren't the protagonists?
I think a good portion were. I would relish a game on the Helghast side of the Conflict.
Basically like Hitler's Germany. Starved by debt and economically crippled by the Treaty of Versailles forced onto the nation by France and Britain
If anything, this should have been about the Helghasts making not only a return to another world, but payback for being left to die. Now, they are here to right that wrong.
chez grif YES you are right
Yeah but they were the Protagonists of the story while the ISA were corporate Government Assholes.
Back when games were made with love and passion.
Yes, back when people had stories to tell. Now, I write to honor them.
Kind of a dumb thing to say, either way have u heard of indie games?
@@IPlayKindred They talk about AAA games with Good finances and Great Script/History/Mechanics
Nowdays are a bunch of W0K3 They/Them garbage or Gacha/Pay-To-Win/DLC souless or incomplete games (Console, PC and Smartphones), most of them based in Multiplayer where people b1tch and complaint about Toxic/flaming beheavior and have Less and less freedom of speech
Agreed 🥲
@@IPlayKindred he's talking about AAA games dumbass, and even Indie games are subject to his criticism.
God i remember playing this on PS2, those were the days.
Slyguy I was small back then when I got this game for my ps2 and I was to little to understand any of it
Good times to fight the Helgan troops.
I still play this game
I see to play the hellgast out of it online with mic just sooo fun
@@rodrigoalvarez1065 me too bro 😂😂😂😂😂😂
*THE STRENGTH IN MY ARM, THE HOLDERS OF MY DREAMS*
Our forefathers embarked on the greatest exodus in the history of all mankind.
An exodus for freedom.
Helghan became that freedom.
@@Capellix0001 Our new world. Changed our bodies. First it weakened us, but in fact we we,re growning ....... stronger.
Best part
The tears in my eyes.
Me: "i would never simp"
Me after this video: "at your service my king"
😤🤲👑
Who wouldn’t want to go to battle after hearing that speech
The Helghast were the good guys all along and nobody ever realized it. What a twist. Such a great game.
Damn I am sad to hear that I have been living in a lie for so long. I only played first Killzone since I did not own PS3. Seems like I missed a major plot twists. I really hope someone decides to port it to PC one day...a man can dream 😔
BEST VIDEO GAME INTRO EVER
I'd argue the Killzone 2 had better intro, but this one is also great.
Joshua Fleming i like all three original killzone intros. visari has great speeches!
They kinda copied Hitler right?
Even though I admire the aesthetics and speech and all that. I'd argue that intro from RtcW was better.
that is true)
Love how his voice echoes off when he says "stronger"
Hollis Jayden Every fucking time somebody citates something from the video on that exact same moment I hear it in the video...
Chills every time
that voice acting
A great way to be introduced to Killzone for new players. So legendary
That's Brian Cox. THE Brian Cox.
I FUCKING THOUGHT SO! But I couldn't believe he'd attach his name and voice to a videogame in 2004! @@christianbethel
@@dcarr571 He was did 2 more in killzone 2 and 3
@dcarr571 Yeah, that's cool that such an A-list actor would voice in a videogame!
This is what I love about first Killzone game. It's sci-fi, but still conventional war using normal rifles, tanks, apc's etc. Also levels in first Killzone remind me present day/very near future war instead over the top futuristic Shadow fall.
IKR ? I absolutely love "Hard sci-fi"
But this doesn't match the description completely, as they still have the magic green stuff and FTL travel
I hate shadowfall. Some elements were cool. But i hate stealth games.
If y'all like this kind of style sci-fi
Go watch The Expanse
and thank me later
I loved the gritty aspect of Helghan for some reason.
@@goatman9998 yeah they really killed the series with that one. Whole plot also made no sense.
Yeah we just killed your planet and now you seek refuge. Come live on our planet oh and feel free to keep all your guns and battleships!
One of my favorite games. Who ever wrote this speech...he got in for this. He had me emotional and everything. Well written.
Lmao
@@p.m.5258 you smell like you lay eggs
Literally!
I watch it every year since it came out and it never fails to well up emotions in me.
Fun fact they took inspiration from Hitler's early speeches to write the speeches of Visari.
I love the cover art, instead of some generic hero pose it's what you're facing, more like a "come and face us" vibe
The characters in first Killzone were superiorly written, even though the story was mediocre the characters made it perfect game for me alongside with setting in dark world. Wish more games would have dark setting that would actually feel good. There are some games which creates atmosphere that you would love to live in there....if only for a short moment.
If you read the lore, from what I remember, the Helghast are the victims. Being rich they bought the planet Vekta but it was taken away from them by force. And seeing them rise again for payback is sick. Too bad we might never see another killzone game after the garbage shadowfall was.
Kind of like how private property, capital, & rights are being taken from the middle class in America curretly...
The "good guys" fucking destroyed their home planet and committed a ridiculously brutal genocide
I blame the writing in killzone 3 that evil scientist dude wanted to nuke Earth even though they wanted it back and in turn ended up blowing up his own planet making it worse then it was before, All though killzone 3 is still a great game to play still its just the story felt a bit rushed especially that 6 month skip
@@irondude220 It also hugely contradicts the ending of KZ2 which pisses me off.
@@XJ0461C Killzone 3 was fun, but yeah, the writing and tech was completely inconsistent. Why none of Stahl's super weapons or giant mechs were used in the initial attempts to retake Vekta or defend Helghan is beyond me.
Ten years ago, I asked for time- and that time was granted by you” the shift in his voice is a perfect transition to that line.
Gotta love the sound of the Helghast rifles...
Me, too.
Yacubisko hate the way they remade them in 2&3
Didn`t they use staplers to create weapon sounds in the first game ?
Yacubisko me too i like killing people
The Sta-52 assault rifle is one of may favorite guns in video game history.
Been years since I’ve played killzone and I still remember the speech word for word
They don't make speaches like this anymore
same bro
I remember I did Visari’s speech from this for our monologues in high school theatre class because I remembered it so well, didn’t even have to memorize it lol.
Holy shit did you do it too??!?
Me too!
I'm sure an RTS set in the Killzone franchise would work well.
Too bad that is never going to happen.
I'd kill to see that happen tbh.
The closest thing to that is the Killzone liberation for Psp
I'm sure there's a mod of that idea already for other RTS games
Never say fuckin never
Never going to happen.
They don't make games with this quality of story anymore :'(
like soul reaver 2 ps2 had great story driven games now its all graphics
WhiskyTango15 that's true, shadow falls have great graphics, but dont feel the same emotion what i feel with this one
WhiskyTango15 LA Noire, Red Dead Redemption i could go on. your just seeing the shit games.
Dais channel solid games there. though LA Noire got super repetitive... red dead is back for number two soon right?
number 3 technically
It helps that you can hear Visari get emotional with his voice almost breaking a few times from tears. He genuinely loves his people. It's so frustrating that Killzone 3 and its novelisation, Killzone Ascendancy, tried so hard to retcon him into a selfish despot just to justify Stahl starting a civil war because the ISA would have lost had the Helghast stayed together.
Guerilla is adept at making mistakes like this and desperately trying to pull back in vain attempts.
@@altechelghanforever9906 Sometimes they just don't make 'em like they used to. How much more profound it would have been had the twist been that Stahl was the one who detonated the nuke in their own capitol and forced their troops to withdraw through fake orders from Orlock, allowing the ISA to take Visari more easily so he could seize control in the chaos and prove Visari was right even more, truly driving home how wrong Rico's decision was.
Its called acting. All dictators and wannabe-dictators are great at faking emotion to make gullible morons believe all their fascist bullshit.
@@ElBombastico883 I know, I've had practice watching classic nsdap propaganda as well as speeches from Democrats.
My god, the best intro in any Killzone game and perhaps many many other games on multiple platforms. The music, speech, emotions, truly majestic.
Hail Helghan
Hail Helghan!!!
Now let us fight the ISA scum!!
The Helghasts really hate them construction workers 😂
The ISA hates them too, you can hear Templar say that they’re all over the damn place 😂
The feeling and the music on 0:22 is something that I cannot explain. I want to live in a killzone atmosphere so bad.
Nah, you probably wouldn't want to actually live there. The atmosphere is top notch though.
Speech:
"My people... Sons and Daughters of Helghan... For many years, we have been a broken nation: shunned, oppressed, and conquered by those we sought to escape. Ten years ago, I asked for time, and that time was granted by you. You: the strength in my arm, the holders of my dreams... Our forefathers embarked on the greatest exodus in the history of all mankind. An exodus for freedom, Helghan became that freedom. Our new world changed our bodies. At first, it weakened us, but in fact, we were growing... stronger. In the time you have given me, I have rebuilt our nation, I have rebuilt our strength, and I have rebuilt our pride! Our enemies at home have been re-educated; we have given them new insights into our cause. On this day, we stand united once more. On this day, those driven to divide us will hear our voice! On this day, we shall act as one, and we shall be ignored NO MORE! Defenders of the Helghast dream, NOW IS OUR TIME!"
--Scolar Visari
I love that speech.
Best speach ever
Long Live The Helghan Empire!!!
If this game was released today, with these references about Mussolini, fascism, nazism and racism would provoke a great debate and criticism.
People are too soft today
Why? Nazis being the bad guys and shown as being almost comically evil is a trope as old as the Nazis themselves, what about Wolfenstein? That game only received praise for it.
@Surfin' the Kali Yuga They were more "specist", since they look at normal humans as inferior.
@Surfin' the Kali Yuga Even if it's true, it's still technically specism.
Yeah but when they show communism in games they remain silent.
I watched this and I'm just crying 😭
Haven't watched it in years
The Red Gamer ...
this remind me of my childhood so much, i loved the helgans since then
All hail Brian Cox 10/10 voice actor!
In Brian Cox's Name We Conquer.
I used to think that these were the most realistic graphics in the world.
This game had both the best graphics for the ps2 but also the worst fps some times
Solid Paras True. It's just so funny, when you look back at this now, I begin to wonder how I actually believed it.
dude when this was released it was some of the best graphic's of its time.
@@scottieknows9943 I honestly thought this was the peek of video game graphics and nothing would surpass it. XD
I remember seeing the first Killzone 2 teaser and thinking it was indistinguishable from real life
"Defenders of the Helghast dream, NOW IS OUR TIME!"
Killzone's intro is one you can't forget
Absolute game changer of an opening cinematic. Was totally for the helghans and then seen the random murders being committed and then I remember being like:
"ohhhhh wait a minute what's going on here????"
I had never seen a opening from the other sides perspective. It was great really brings balance to a game.
Yeah, it would be neat if we got a Killzone game from the Helghast perspective. Perhaps at like the first Vektan invasion. Or during Visari's fall.
Love live Helghan!
oldjaguar me to
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Vekta shall be ours again
ALL HAIL HELGAN!!!
It's such a shame that things will never be like this again.
I had to look this up so I could show my little brother wat I grew up playing and how this game was so ahead of its time. I always thought that a lot of other games copied off of killzone. Now in 2017 I'm playing COD infinite warfare and I can't help but be reminded of killzone. dam how I loved this game
Actually Killzone copied Halo success, but in my opinion I preferred Killzone for its dark setting and well written characters - storyline was meh, but the characters made you want to care about them.
I want so badly for them to remaster this game
They would just ruin it. The Helghast would have no depth, and the ISA would be filled with bossy, morbidly obese black trans women girlbosses...
@@YamaikoHiro your right lmao
Best video game intro EVER!!!
it would have been better if we play the helghast
Nataly Anna Giless check the shadow Fall kill zone there is helgast story mod now
Helgast no there is not
Honestly I cannot imagine this speech being done by anyone other than Brian Cox. His voice just oozes authority & makes you feel a weird sense of pride despite being on the opposite side.
I'd vote for him.
The Helghast are fucking badass man! I LOVE the design of their armor!
Equinox Burn kinda reminds me the scene of the new Star Wars
The cutscenes in this game were amazing
I used to play this at my friends house what a time
"and that time was granted by you....You! The strength in my arm, the holders of my dreams!.."
this was the best era of gaming
This game was a part of my childhood. I will never forget it.
May The Helghan Empire Prosper
Never played Killzone before, but I guarantee the man giving the speech did absolutely, positively NOTHING wrong.
They're the victims
and you'd be right.
And you are right. They were the victims of genocide, were deported from one of their own planets, and went to take it back by force. The ISA started the war.
When you realize they were the victims ...
2022 I'm struggling to see much difference with this and our own reality. We have become fever dreams of the media we grew up with.
this speech still gives me chills to this day
this is the army I what to join
Same
Shadow Man their colors of the banners are my kind and if I was a spartan 2 I would get the symbol in my chest and my armor will mostly be black but also red and white
@Friendly Neigbourhood Sun Wheel so you would join to loosers
@@Loreless ok boot licker
Ummm... Nazi Germany isn't far off. You want to be in an army of Murderers?
One should tread carefully when making enemies. But ISA really fucked the pooch on that one.
Killzone is amazing because you realised its the Helgast that were really not the enemy.
I seriously wish they gave us a killzone game, where we played as the Helghan.
I hope they one day reboot the series and maintain the aesthetic and feeling of the first 2 games, the grounded and dirty ww2 esque inspiration, like smth you can realistically see in the future besides the spaceships
People watching the cinematic for the first time: "The Helghast are clearly the bad guys because they are tyrannical."
People after reading the Helghast lore: "The ISA deserved it."
No argument there.
Perhaps but 2 wrongs does not make one right.
Did the Vectans deserve it though?
@@fallout44454 I mean, most of the original Vektans were forced out of their planet and into helghan as well, so I guess they also sought revenge. It's not surprising in the slightest how Visari became the ruler, when so many people of a nation have a burning hatred for a common enemy and someone offers vengeance against said enemy, dictators are sure to rise up
@Jotaro97 Maybe if your entire life goal is to achieve military force but when it comes to establishing a better morality, it's hypocritical and nothing better than the previous.
In case you didn't know, everything about the Helghast seems to be heavily inspired by Mein Kampf and just plain Nazism .
The game itself is pretty much a copy and past of the Wolfenstein genre.
this is the best game intro I've seen in my entire life
I get every time chills, still watching this
One thing I have always liked about Killzone lore is that while on the surface the Helgan are the true evil, the ISA are nowhere near good. If only they played with this morale grey some more.
I'll be honest, I literally got the chills on this opening Killzone is now definitely my favorite.

Still no better opening cinematic speech... still gives me chills. If the first game were to get a remaster i would buy a PS4 right now to play it. Killzone and Halo are two of the lost generation of near perfect narrative gaming

Helghast: YOU WERE WRONG!!!!
some say zelda was there child hood but killzone was mine i still play killzone to this day whose playing in 2017
killzone got gay after killzone 3 but all b4 were cool killzone 1&2 were the best killzone 3 was great but then helghan fell and i said fuck this game
I remember playing this game back when I was a kid and oh boy, it became my instant most favorite game in PS2.
The campaign is really nerve wracking and terrifying, especially in the 2nd campaign where mostly you are alone and you'll never know when's the enemies will come.
The multiplayer tho, too bad I didn't make it when the game is huge and players are active cause at that time, PS3 were the new trend and almost no one is playing PS2 but the local multiplayer is still fun.
I get to play in each very big map with lots of AI. My favorites are the swamps and the snowy bridge cause of how many routes you can take and how amazing their atmosphere are.
Of course, I love playing as helghast on the multiplayer cause of how cool their voice are and their uniforms. Their guns is awesome too. I remember playing killzone multiplayer for hours and I won't ever get tired.
If I'm somewhat bored of it, I'll just play the campaign. Even sometimes, me and my cousin plays the multiplayer by split screen and it was fun. I wished I could return to those simplest time.
My favorite game in PS2 was Killzone, Brothers in arms: Road to hill 30, and Soul Calibur 3. What's yours? ^^
Too many to count.
this game was so awsome I remember when I played it on ps2
There's a men of war mod in development

Brian Cox is a Legend, unmistakable and brilliant old school voiceover
After all those years I still remember that speech word for word!

I love it when visari says now is our time and the flags behind him are getting thrashed by the wind
This was one my favorite ps franchises, it needs to come back to show how shooters can be fun and have a good story at the same time.
Watching Dune (2021) yesterday really made me want to play this again. Weird.
Th3 music in killzone was always so epic. Reminds me of star wars a little

Absolute masterpiece for the year it came out.
Spawned an incredible universe, amazing sequels, decent spin-offs and memorable characters.
Only flaw is we never really got that Helghast POV campaign..
Concord could only have ever DREAMT of being as great as this here. Gaming was at its peak then, and then more so during the PS3 days. There truly used to be a game for everyone.
You'll be back someday, Killzone.
We need a full killzone remake for ps5. Just graphics keep the gameplay how it is
Nah I actually think they should use the same controls as the ones in Killzone 2, cuz the ones in the first were weirrrrd af
