- JOHNSON 30 hp, Here I start a Facts check on this old outboard to see if it will have what it takes to be made over into a nice running 30 with all the bells & whistle's... Electric charging,, electric start,, etc. So come along let's go inside outboard's and see if it makes the cut.

Any day I get to see day light up here in Nov. is a good day 2 me, This time of year blow'n & snow'n is the norm. haha. kb

Where did you get this one from? Wonder why anyone would have gotten rid of it? Nothing much wrong, just needs some maintenance. I would keep it as well, can't get great engines like this anymore. They are all cold blooded for sure, but pretty rugged and reliable for sure...
Older gent came by said he was cleaning out his storage & asked If I would want to buy a cpl of Johnson 30's for $50 I sais sure. 2 months latter he shows up with this clean 2004 & a 89 plus a nice retro stand. I was glad I said sure. kb

I love those 30 hp Johnson I have two I went to get a parts for 50 bucks motor because they were made in 1956. But when I did a compression test it was the same as my good motor so I am going to get another parts motor thanks for the videos 👍🏻

Wow the Johnson sounded pretty good once it was set up right. I plan on getting an old 50's Johnson someday after the old merc I'm working on is done. My dad had one that was a 5hp that when I was a kid ran it on the lake we had a cabin on. Love to have one again. Going to build a storage rack soon in the mini shed to store them.

Great prroject and for me very timely as I just completed the parts' retrieval for a full electric start conversion on my 1992 Johnson 30 hp. By the way, here in Quebec, where BRP all started, Bombardier is (closely enouph) pronounced "bau-BAR-dee-yeah" ("bau" as in Lambau Field). Thanks again and take care !

Kodibass I know your busy but I have 2003 25hp that was well used and abused and the flywheel magnets got damaged and the ignition parts under also destroyed.I have good ignition parts from a 1988 on it and a 1990 flywheel which is different than the original..got motor running easily but missing. After shutting off and restarting it started running backwards from what I can see.Don’t think it is an optical illusion.Peeing water but don’t see exhaust coming out lower. Any insight on this?
I have had this happen B4, You need to replace that flywheel with the type from the 88. kb

I have a question for you. I was at my local Boat store the only store I have bought parts for my boat and when I asked about the factory setting on my 2003 30hp Johnson Intermediate Orifice Screw they came unglued on me. telling me that he has 5 clipboards of stuff he has to do just to keep the lights on before he could even think about looking into something like this. He took down my serial number and what I was looking for, but I knew he wouldn't call because he didn't take my name or number. I bought a repair manual for it but it doesn't say anything about its setting. Could you help me with this or point me in the right direction? I currently looking for a new Marine Shop to fulfill my boating needs. Thanks in advance.
Kodi. I just pulled the 1990 flywheel off and it is same part number as the 1988 except one has a ring gear and one doesn’t. Magnets and key way appear to line up the same.

No' U will need to change or open the intake hole size to get 35. U can get 30 with just a carb or
jet change. kb
@@kodibassInsideoutboards Hey Cody thanks- I'll probably go the jetting route for 30- would that be just the high speed jet change? Is there any drilling involved to accomodate jet or is it just a taper diference? Thanks!
@@billrae4198 No drilling, screw old jets out, new ones in. I would check the numbers on both jets. Number will B stamped on the brass jet. d31,r34 etc. kb
