    The mythological Kakamora sound an awful lot like Homo Floresienses to me. Nicknamed hobbits, these diminutive early hominids are known to have lived on the island of Flores in Indonesia. It is possible that they actually shared the island with modern humans for a time and that descriptions of them survive in local legends. The fossil record of this species is incredibly limited, but it could be possible that the hobbits, or a similar species, migrated across Polynesia or simply remained a part of the legends brought eastwards across the Pacific by Polynesians originating from areas where Homo Floresienses lived.

    The "possum" in the chili you had was actually an opossum. The possum that the Kakamora eat are a totally different animal more closely related to kangaroos. Same name, different hemispheres, different animal.

    You know have you ever wondered why they were on a boat, yes it may be the movie creators just making it up but what if the darkness (sorry forgot what it was called) engulfed their island and were forced to sail the sea and became pirates to survive

    • @scarlettskipper9352
      @scarlettskipper9352 7 років тому +12

      Very much possible. It would explain the enormous size of the boat. And the fact that they are pirates. They steal stuff so that they can live on that. But then, how would Maui know of their existence? The darkness spread after he stole the heart of Te fiti and after that he ended up on an island, so how would he know?

    • @nightbane2889
      @nightbane2889 7 років тому +9

      Well Maui IS over a thousand years old. We have no idea how he got to the island. Additionaly he was not the only one after the heart. By the premise of the movie, the kakatora already knew of the heart and wanted it. SO it very possible he could have run into them before the events of the movie.

    Did you guys see the flower from Tangled in Moana? After Moana restores the heart of Tafiti near the end of the movie, the screen zooms to her island. To the sides you can see flowers and other plants that the camera is supposedly traveling past. Although it is very quick, a yellow and purple flower like the main flower in Tangled can be seen if you look really hard (at least I'm pretty sure... I saw it, but I've only seen Moana once...)
    Anyways, I feel like this means something. When Tafiti was reunited with her heart, did it release a lot of healing magic, which was captured in the flowers and plants it generated? I know there's a long period of time between the two movies, but maybe that species of flower in particular kept its magical qualities for some reason.... Also, this may be a stretch, but it is unknown how long Mother Gothel kept herself young with the flower before Rapunzel's father found it.... Although it probably was not that long, as Mother Gothel wears clothes specifically from the Renaissance period (still much after the events in Moana).
    And I know the movies are not in the same geographical areas, but the main island of Hawaii has several climate zones, including those found in Europe. Then why can't the island Moana was living on have several climate zones too? The plants may have been able to survive near where the events in Tangled took place. Either way, in the movie, it said that Rapunzel's father's men had to travel very far to retrieve the flower, so they could have gotten it really from anywhere. (They wouldn't have been able to travel to the Pacific and back before Rapunzel's mother ran out of time, I assume, but the flower could have survived somewhere closer to Europe)
    I know in Tangled, they said the flower was created by a drop of sun falling from the sky, but maybe it was just a metaphor? Maybe when the Heart of Tafiti was reunited with the earth, it was like a drop of sun? Or maybe a drop of sun (or something like it) actually did hit the flower, awakening the ancient magic stored in the flower since Tafiti awoke and created that wave of Life energy...
    This is a really loose theory, but I hope you continue to look into it, as I am only amateur theorist. I would be honored if you even bothered to read this comment. :D
    Your fan (and friend),
    Calliope :D

    • @calliope9978
      @calliope9978 7 років тому +1

      Emma Haas Thanks for the actual wording... I wasn't really sure on that, lol. It could still work if Tafiti's power somehow created a magical drop of sun that either created the flower or landed on an existing flower (which is still part of the earth, right?).

    • @HoneybeeRiley
      @HoneybeeRiley 7 років тому +2

      Maybe when Maui lassoed the sun it knocked off a little bit? Te Fiti had already given her gift of Life to everyone before Maui came along so maybe she had already created that flower and it just bloomed again when her heart was restored. It could be possible that the flower that caught the sun drop was far enough away that it wasn't affected by the spreading darkness? Or harnessing the sun's power protected it from the darkness. Nice theory!

    THEORY: Maui is the Polynesian equivalent of a siren from Greek Mythology. Most myth was used to explain why things happened. Perhaps sirens were used to explain sea mirages. Who knows? Back to Maui. See, Maui is more complex than we initially think. He is cunning and somewhat manipulative, able to lure Moana into a cave and seal her in without her even realizing it. How did he do that? This is where the siren idea comes into play. Sirens are known for singing sailors to their inevitable destruction, much like Maui used his own song of “You’re Welcome” to trap Moana in that cave. Remember, Moana knew him as evil and tricky. Yet she still wound up in that cave. Maybe she just liked the song? Maybe, but I find that unlikely. I believe that throughout Maui’s song, there are three things that caused him to manipulate Moana: his TATTOO, a BLANKET he pulled from nowhere, and TAPPING ON A COCONUT. Once he throws the BLANKET in Moana’s face, the background is no longer the beach. Rather, the background resembles the pattern on a blanket. Thus, Maui has begun a deeper portion of the Siren’s song. Another clue is the COCONUT Maui taps on. This is when the real magic begins. Although seemingly insignificant, the moment in which he is tapping the coconut is the moment right before Moana starts hallucinating. We KNOW she hallucinates because Maui gives her fruits that turn out to be rocks and seaweed. Hallucinations are similar to how sirens work. They make you see what you want to see. If you do not believe the coconut is involved, look closely at Moana’s face and eyes. Her eyes shift up to Maui’s face, but from where. She was either looking at his tattoos or the coconut. Look close enough, and you will see that the angle matches the position of the coconut. Notice how the background shifts from solid pattern to not-so-solid pattern. The background almost resembles Maui’s TATTOOS. Even the imaginary people match the style of his tattoos. Whenever Maui is with Moana, he tells her not to sing. A little odd considering how he was the first to sing out of the two of them. Moana does not sing while Maui is with her. In fact, Moana sings immediately AFTER he leaves, not once, but TWICE. She sings with her grandma, and she sings to the lava monster. Both times, Maui is nowhere to be seen.
    Please tell me what you think.

      David Smith This is an amazing theory! But why would Maui mind Moana's singing? (I haven't seen Moana, but I like Greek mythology and I don't recall the Sirens being defeated/destroyed by singing...)

      David Smith The character Maui was actually made based off of the polynesian belief of the god Maui. Polynesians believe that Maui actually pulled up a island (the island Maui which is in hawaii and they say it's named after himself) he also stopped the sun from going too fast and even stole fire. This is all explained in the song your welcome. I know about this because I go to an hawaiian school and when i was young wayyyy before moana came out i learned about Maui the god. I don't personally think that he is true but this is what hawaiians and polynesians believe and this is where they got the idea of the character Maui. He isn't just a made up character by Disney but is actually a well known myth by polynesians which was made centuries ago. So i thought that i would just put it out there. 👍🏻

    Hey Brothers! There has been nagging feeling after watching Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, was merope guant ever an obscurity? Now I get that anyone that does not practice magic and is thought to be a squib is NOT an obscurial, however in the half-blood prince, Dumbledore "guesses" that Merope after freeing Tom Riddle Sr from her love potions, she never lifted her wand again. Not only that, during her upbringing Merope was harassed by her own family, like Credence in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, is this sound evidence for the Merope is an obscurial theory?

    I think it would be cool to discuss why Moana's grandmother wasn't chosen to return the heart of Te Fiti when she was younger.
    I mean...
    she loved the sea
    she knew the legend
    she is feisty enough to deal with Maui
    she probably knew the ocean as she was aware that it was alive
    ....
    so why did the sea choose Moana? not that I'm complaining it has just baffled me.

    • @lightishredgummi
      @lightishredgummi 7 років тому +2

      Mint45 I meeeean... XD though for all we know, Disney didn't even think of that XD but at least that would give room for fan theories and speculation. Maybe something happened to Moanas grandma like what happened to Moana when she was younger, and like Moana she only thought it was a dream but didn't have anyone to witness what happened and pick up the heart, so when she realized it wasn't a dream she was too old to be able to do anything, or the ocean already chose someone else. Maybe Moana when she was born, or the same thing happened to Moanas father. He loved the ocean too, but he was later scared away from it.

    • @lightishredgummi
      @lightishredgummi 7 років тому +4

      Mint45 oh, and about her grandma knowing the ocean was alive, she likely knew it was alive only after witnessing it choose Moana.

    • @HoneybeeRiley
      @HoneybeeRiley 7 років тому +3

      Maybe the grandmother was given a "test" as a young child like Moana was. (The ocean let her choose between a pretty shell and saving a turtle and she chose the turtle. That was when the ocean came to life and started playing with her and rewarded her the shell.) Maybe the grandmother didn't pass the test. Or maybe she did but she was held back by the duties of being married to the chief? Maybe they'll explain in a second movie 😉

    actually, I thought the lyrics of "You're Welcome" explained the Kakamora, thought it was canon that actually Maui killed a giant evil eel that was bringing terror upon a village, the village was also starving so maui buried the eel's guts and grew a tree out of them to feed the village, the tree sprouted coconuts, but the bad thing is that since the coconuts where made out of evil guts, they turned into evil kakamoras.
