What’s worse is that in both the first AND second movies, Po TRIED to talk the big bads down. He TRIED to bring the message home to both Tai Lung, saying that the secret of king fu is just being yourself, and Shen, saying that he can change his destiny by letting go of the past and stop trying so hard to forcibly change it, in hopes of getting them to just stop, but neither Tai Lung nor Shen listened. And it’s clear that by the third movie, Po’s given up on that strategy, because (at least based on memory) Po not ONCE tried to reason with Kai and take the peaceful approach. Which is so sad because most, if not ALL of the KFP villains became the way they were because of outside interference. They were never given a chance and Po at least TRYING to give them that chance made him a better protagonist and Dragon Warrior.

One of the reasons I got so into the theory channels is because MatPat's voice was just so good for background noise for my adhd brain. I was slightly worried the new hosts wouldn't match the same vibe for me, but so far, Lee and Tom have been awesome! MatPat made some great choices, and we're so lucky to have you guys as our new hosts

but Tai Lung and Feng Huang both studied at the Jade Palace which means that Master Oogway was able to observe them change and become evil while Ding just like you said he was sent to an order of Monk's to train meaning Master Oogway didn't see him change and become evil

And so becomes a competition of just being better than anyone in exchange of being his true self…he was never able to control rejection, what if rejection came in his path as a dragon warrior, would he had taken his dissolution on the population as well?
And if somebody was "turning evil" before your eyes, and you're a wise powerful man, what should you do? That was the point of this video. Oogway chose violence in dealing with evil, and pushed them to become more evil, rather than showing kindness and patience and guidance to a better path.
Viewing it from another angle, the masters' gatekeeping could be a way to test the student's capability of handling disappointment. It reminds me of how Willy Wonka told Charlie and Grandpa Joe they lost their chance to win a lifetime supply of chocolate because they stole the fizzy lifting drinks.

So basically, Oogway's Teaching is similar to the Jedi in the prequel films: Fear the dark side so much that even a sliver of it is unacceptable; to the point where redemption from the darkness isn't possible. And we all remember how well the Jedi Order went following that doctrine.
I’d disagree with that idea. If you watched the origins of the furious five stories and the story of the three masters - Oogway was never very similar to the Jedi at all. Especially for what he foresaw in Po during the first film. Po wasn’t treated the same way Anakin was. It’s even confirmed in the third film when Po reunited with him in the spirit realm. “A way to unite the past and the present- to begin anew”. Even foreshadowed when he talked to Po at the Peach tree.
I mean, I never blame the guy for being angry. Imagine being over praised and told you’re going to do amazing things in life, only to be replaced by someone’s who never even dabbled in your field💀😭

I was introduced to game theory when I was in middle school by a friend.. I’ve been here though all the new channels and now I’m 25 married with 2 kids. Definitely sucks seeing Mat go but it makes sense- dudes going out when everything is doing good which is smart and now I’m sitting here on my break at work and here I am 17:23 minutes later and Lee, you got this I don’t really comment on anything but I’ll gladly do it if there’s a chance you see this and know that I can speak for the couple dozen people I know who watch everything the theorist put out and have for the last decade- naturally we were worried but good to know film theory has a very promising host🙏 amazing video

sorry but no he didnt, well the theory was just wrong and could easily be debunked. the scroll doesn't "make" someone the dragon warrior it only guides the true/fated one (exemplified by the trees and peaches monologue). if one wasn't the fated dragon warrior one wouldn't undertand, it which no one but poo did, nor shifu nor tai lung. oogway knew that, that tai lung wouldn't understand/accept it, the scroll, which he didn't even after the true dragon warrior (poo) explained it, --> tai lung was Never and could never be the dragon warrior and it was actually shifus fault for forcing tai lung to become something he wasn't meant to become.

I'm very much enjoying this new era of Team Thoerist already. Making the show feel the same while clearly showing us that it will be a new chapter for the channel is great! Before this I knew very little about Lee. But now, I see it. Matpat had four trials that you all embody in the best way. Just as oogway should have embraced the best traits of his students I see the best in you four. Tom: matpat analytical talent is matched by Tom if not slightly more Santi: matpats nature to experiment and get wierd with food in ways we never thought possible Amy: matpats charm and swagger as well as cheesy yet charming jokes And you lee:, you have his enthusiasm, his love for these franchises, you have the passion. When you make a theory it's because you love what it is you are theorizing so much. The arguments stated were communicated very well & he gave plenty of examples of very important characters in the Kung Fu panda franchise. I was surprised that he didn't mention Kung Fu Panda's major plot point concerning the fact that Oogway never told anyone about Kai the collector's legacy, even though they were very close friends at one point or how Peng turned away from darkness. Very good theory & personal introduction!

Oogway tried to be the light to his old partner Kai's darkness, but he met his dark destiny on the path he took to avoid it. His secrets created the very threats he sought to prevent, his training created the dangers his students must face, and his legacy is just as damaging as Kai's if not more so.
Y'know, while MatPat's voice is what I'm used to, Lee's voice is much gentler. Like listening to theories at a calm yet warm hearth, compared to MatPat's excited and blazing campfire. I'm looking forward to hearing more.

So basically, Oogway's Teaching is similar to the Jedi in the prequel films: Fear the dark side so much that even a sliver of it is unacceptable; to the point where redemption from the darkness isn't possible.
And we all remember how well the Jedi Order went following that doctrine.

I’d disagree with that idea. If you watched the origins of the furious five stories and the story of the three masters - Oogway was never very similar to the Jedi at all. Especially for what he foresaw in Po during the first film. Po wasn’t treated the same way Anakin was. It’s even confirmed in the third film when Po reunited with him in the spirit realm. “A way to unite the past and the present- to begin anew”. Even foreshadowed when he talked to Po at the Peach tree.

I was introduced to game theory when I was in middle school by a friend.. I’ve been here though all the new channels and now I’m 25 married with 2 kids. Definitely sucks seeing Mat go but it makes sense- dudes going out when everything is doing good which is smart and now I’m sitting here on my break at work and here I am 17:23 minutes later and Lee, you got this

sorry but no he didnt, well the theory was just wrong and could easily be debunked. the scroll doesn't "make" someone the dragon warrior it only guides the true/fated one (exemplified by the trees and peaches monologue). if one wasn't the fated dragon warrior one wouldn't undertand, it which no one but poo did, nor shifu nor tai lung. oogway knew that, that tai lung wouldn't understand/accept it, the scroll, which he didn't even after the true dragon warrior (poo) explained it, --> tai lung was Never and could never be the dragon warrior and it was actually shifus fault for forcing tai lung to become something he wasn't meant to become.
Lee is perfect. I honestly was most worried about him taking over because Film Theory is my favorite channel but I have 0 complaints. Way to go Lee!!!!!

The arguments stated were communicated very well & he gave plenty of examples of very important characters in the Kung Fu panda franchise. I was surprised that he didn't mention Kung Fu Panda's major plot point concerning the fact that Oogway never told anyone about Kai the collector's legacy, even though they were very close friends at one point or how Peng turned away from darkness. Very good theory & personal introduction!

Oogway tried to be the light to his old partner Kai's darkness, but he met his dark destiny on the path he took to avoid it. His secrets created the very threats he sought to prevent, his training created the dangers his students must face, and his legacy is just as damaging as Kai's if not more so.
Y'know, while MatPat's voice is what I'm used to, Lee's voice is much gentler. Like listening to theories at a calm yet warm hearth, compared to MatPat's excited and blazing campfire. I'm looking forward to hearing more.
