Why would someone choose the APS-C over the FF. The answer is simple because I just made that choice. I'm travelling Asia and the weight of the camera system is a big deal. I'm on the A6400 + Sony 11mm F1.8 + Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 + Sony 85mm F1.8 = 1.25kG total. It's not the weight of the body thats the issue, its the weight of those FF lenses. I sold my FF A7RIII and FF lenses in order to 'downgrade' to the lighter system. The lighter weight is just so much nicer to travel with.

I mean, the Fuji XH2s, XH2, and XT5 are arguably all better APS-C cameras than any of these, but are a little more expensive. I’d think the X-S20 would make sense for sure. This channel has a pretty well-documented anti-Fuji bias. A lot of what is reported about GFX is just inaccurate and Tony seems to be hyper-critical of Fuji’s X autofocus, which I think is only somewhat fair right now. Fuji autofocus has improved a lot…

Not so much for portraiture, but most travel/street/journalism photography is fine with a bit more in focus. • @truthseeker6804
      @truthseeker6804 Рік тому +4

@@InstructorWest when the prices are similar, the apsc has to have many specs advantages that would overcome the full frame, then i would say the apsc is worth it for specific usecase. but if the specs difference isnt much, then the full frame is the clear winner. this a6700 is a good camera, my issue with this camera, its slightly overpriced. it shouldve been at $1100 and sony should release a better apsc camera to compete with the canon r7, a camera that can be used professionally, dual SD, more megapixel, faster fps. but this a6700 is good for video, but overheats fast tho. its got too many downsides. if you rarely do 4k120p the canon r7 and r8 are much better cameras for similar price.

@@Berry_N I was early adopter of Canon R7. Here is list of the things I didn't like about R7.
      - shutter shock
-AF hunting even with RF 100-400, sometimes you had to peek AF in EVF, cause I got AF confirmation it is locked on subject, but I had to pump that AF-ON button to see it is focused (this was biggest drawback of this camera), this problem is not that big of a deal if subject if filling the frame or contrast is good
-32mpix sensor is just too much for normal user, details got crushed in shadows which was critical for my work (I shoot in woods) so sometimes I feel FF would be better solution but FF is not ideal for wildlife on budget and reach
Still think ergonomics of R7 are great, battery life is great too. Dual card slots, button customizations, EVF, screen great. It was tough decision to part with it but I just might buy A6700, still have A6100 which has great sensor much better for shadow recovery than R7 and more details in general since 24mpix doesn't resolve lens flaws.

  • @gdjaybee742
    @gdjaybee742 Рік тому

My only argument/debate with the R8 versus the A6700, is that sure you can get shallower depth of field with the full frame sensor and glasses are mostly made for full frames especially exotic ones, are that third party companies have really upped their games when it comes to cropped sensor mirrorless. Sigma are popular with their primes specifically made for crop, Tamron are popular with their 2.8 zooms for crop. Viltrox are now competing with their 1.2 primes. This is really important because the lenses built for the fullframe are either super expensive compared to the low end model, and the low end models(Sony e 50 1.8) are not superior to the crop versions from Sigma( 30 1.4). These third party lenses enable to give you that shallow depth of field you are looking for in the full frame, and I will also claim that because crop sensor bodies have denser pixels per inch, lense made specifically for crop sensor high density sensors would have to be super sharp to resolve the megapixels, and sensor technologies have come so far the noise levels especially at lower ISOs are basically negligible. Because of these I've resolve myself to the a6xxx ecosystem.

Most people will never master the a6100 and spending $1400 plus tax for the body only is IMO, a waste of $$ for most people. Most would be far better served by buying a like new Sony a6100 from KEH or MPB for $650 and spend the difference on glass like the Sigma 16mm,30mm or 85mm f/1.4, etc. Additionally if you want the latest, I would certainly look at the Canon R7 which is the same price as the Sony a6700.

For me the large array of small lenses available for Sony E mount is a clear win. I actually own both a Canon EOS R5 and Sony A1 and for the Canon R5 I don’t have a single RF L lens that is nice and small for light travel. With Sony there are many including the full array of Sigma I-Series from 17mm to 90mm that work both on FF and APS-C.
    Thank you for your review.

Some errors here and there: first of all you miscounted the dials. The α6600 did already have 2 dials not 1 (and no I am not counting the mode dial) for exposure. The α6700 now has three, not 2. Somehow the rear dial is always forgotten, even though such a dial was used many years in highest end cameras like 1DX and the like for exposure.
The α6600 screen is in fact 180° tiltable so that you can see yourself.
You never have less options on APS-C than an FF with the same mount. Must be a rush mistake you made ;)
Oh and a 50 F1.2 is definitely not an "overkill" for these cameras :)... It might be an overkill for some situations of course.

My a6700 should arrive Aug 15. Can't wait. It is mostly for the ai auto focus that I wanted to upgrade. That should cut out missed focus most of the time. Second for me is better low light performance due to the BSI. I will appreciate the new adjustment wheel in front of the shutter button.
For me the "fully articulating" LCD screen is a downgrade. I only ever use the tilt feature and that has been impacted by the new design. I can understand vloggers who want to see the screen facing forward. I just don't do that. Fortunately this is overall a low use feature for me. I'll live with it. I have a Panasonic bridge FZ1000 with the fully articulating screen so I'm not new to the game.

I do some macro photography, some bird/wildlife photography, some landscapes, some flowers, some videos and I'm not independently wealthy. Does anybody have suggestions on what I should buy?
    1. Canon t8i - makes most use of what I have and it's cheapest option
    2. Sony 6700 - lots of cool features- might be more portable than t8i but by the time you put a lens on it, it is about the same size as the t8i
    3. Fujifilm ? - Is a bit cheaper but Sony seems like the main stream choice that will provide better options for the future.
    4. Canon R7 - The camera I would buy except not going to buy Canon because of the no aftermarket lens nonsense. FWIW, I have bought 5 Canon cameras over the years and I'm sad that I won't be buying another one, but I need to move on.

Are Sigma & Tamron E-Mount lenses better than Sigma & Tamron EF lenses? No! does the EF-R Adapter works flawlessly? Yes!
It's a little frustrating to keep hearing reviewers talk about Canon RF system not having a lot of glass options and ignoring the fact that canon is the only manufacturer that has an adaptor that works 100% of the time with 100% of lenses (Obviously 100% is an exaggeration, I haven't tried them all... but I've tried 10+ lenses at this stage adapted and all worked flawlessly, Image Stabilization and Auto-Focus, additionally every adapted lenses review I've seen has been positive.) Now if the EF lens eco system was weak I would understand... the criticism... But the EF collection is phenomenal in both quality and price, with an aftermarket for used lenses that is more active than any other, and with the ability to still buy EF lenses new... This makes Canon Mirrorless cameras some of the most exciting cameras for lenses options.
    All from B&H
    Sigma Canon EF 60-600 $1,999
    Sigma Sony E 60-600 $1,989
    Sigma Canon EF 70-200 $1,499
    Sigma Sony E 70-200 $1,471
    Sigma Canon EF 85 $1,039
    Sigma Sony E 85 $1,069
Canon RF + Mount (cheap) Pros:
If you want old and used there is a strong market with low prices. A 300mm F2.8 Decent quality Canon for $1,300 Find a Sony that cheap... you can pick up a new 135mm f2 for $500
If you want an exciting unique lenses you have monsters like the 200mm F1.8,
If money isn't an issue and you want the best quality ever a strong case can be made for RF glass being ridiculously sharp with modern classics like the 28-70 F2, a 135mm f1.8 with IS and a 1200mm F8 and 800mm f5.6 (Forgive me if I'm wrong but I think the longest Sony goes is 600MM)
Is it wrong of Canon to behave so bad and cut out Sigma, Tamron and others from making lenses... Absolutely! We should raise our voices and hope canon changes there behavior.
But when educating viewers its also important to tell the full story not half the narrative, Canon is wrong... But Canon also has the best glass eco system...
P.S. I'm selling my Canon gear and moving to Sony to get away from overheating FX30 here I come :')
Adding this incase anyone thinks I'm just some canon fan boy lol Seriously my biggest disappointment from leaving my Canon Mirrorless cameras is the lenses selection!
I'm hoping the Sigma adapter for Canon to Sony works well... If so I'm keeping my glass... But from what I've seen its hit and miss...

Only three lenses and no "door" to other brands : this is how Canon treat their customers. When they claim about image quality, pro-level service, high-quality electronics, the best tools, etc. they hide their lack of consideration.
Proven by this (published on Canon's Website, translated) : "Aside from the exclusive EF-M range of lenses, multi-purpose and compact, thanks to the EF-EOS M adapter you can use more then 80 EF-S and EF DSLR-developped lenses".
Clever move, as they officially "recycle" their older lenses for DSLR as APS-C substitute ones. Technically, this is a meaningless attitude for the sensor to rear-lens element distance is different from a DSLR camera to a hybrid camera. And they do know it.
This is an extremely different policy from brands such as Fuji and Sony (and others too). These two offer many choices to pick from, and an open lens-system with their own products competing against those of third-party manufacturers.
Canon is locking when others are opening... better chose your side wisely !
You can have all the specifications you want and all the dual-pixels you want, making fun of your customers this way proves how much you actually (DO NOT) care about them. This is NOT the Canon we are used to !
Thank you for not overlooking on this crucial point, because creating images is not only about cameras... it takes a whole system around.

Here's a monkey wrench to mess things up even worse: Depending on your lens and the aperture you use, you might find that you might be able to use smaller apertures without "cat's eye" bokeh. (have rounder bokeh) using full frame lenses on crop sensor cameras. This is going to be a hit - or = miss problem where you simply have to try out a bunch of lenses at various apertures and see what happens. Actually you might also find less off-axis "fall off" using full frame lenses on APS-C bodies. Unfortunately, the flip side is that you might also find that full frame lenses are a bit less sharp than crop sensor dedicated lenses. These are not things I would normally obsess over, but if you have an edge, it might count sometimes.
