    Compared to Fujifilm X-S20:
    1) Better AF but poorer IBIS
    2) Better video framerates but no 6k Open gate (i.e. lesser video resolution/real estate)
    3) Larger EVF but lower LCD resolution
    4) Environmental sealing, gyroscopic stabilization but lower battery life, no external cooling fan, no built-in flash, no AF joystick, no pre-shots...
Both are priced similarly (except Europe), and both have wide selection of good lenses (including third parties). I much prefer Fujifilm X-S20 feature set and color science (SOOC), but can see Sony A6700 appealing to those shooting fast moving objects and/or if environmental sealing is crucial.

Thats nothing new, its a trend happening in the entire camera business, camera sales are only going down, in fact, Capitalism itself is heading for a brutal crash in 10 or 20 years.
I be more worried about that crash because it might be the final crash thats gonna bring the market down, even in COVID the only thing keeping industries alive were government spending and loans, Fuji alongside Sony almost bankrupted in 2022, its a funny little side story that no one seems to care about, everything seems normal on the surface, but little do they know everything under is falling apart. Fuji and Sony got lending from the government to stay afloat and Mitsubishi essentially pumped money into both, Sony is still pretty unprofitable in most of its tech sectors. But Japan cannot afford to loose any more of its tech dominance so the government wont let anyone go bankrupt, also the Japanese government saved Olympus.

I'm deeply, and well, invested in Sony emount lenses so moving to a different brand is a no go, for me. I have owned and do own several Sony emount bodies. I currently shoot with an a6600. It's a great camera and I enjoy using it. That said, the a6700 offers several 'upgrades' which are important to me and I'm sure I'll be picking one up. For me, the best improvements are the twisty-flippy screen, the AI chip for subject recognition, and the focus bracketing. Thanks for the good video. I enjoyed it and found it informational.

Thanks for the in depth review which convinced me to upgrade from my A6300 to this A6700. I am yet to put it to the test myself. What I do like to remark on is your complaint about rattly strap lugs that would ruin your sound. The A6300 has the same strap lugs, but I have never had any issue with them, but that is because I use them for the intended purpose: attaching a strap or lanyard, which I hang around my neck. No rattling anymore, ,because the straps prevents them from moving around. Also if you do not like straps, you can remove the lugs from the camera, admittedly with a bit of effort.

I think this is a solid effort, but in my mind Sony should have spent a little more money for dual card slots and a faster mech shutter. This would be worth $200 to me. Maybe Sony doing a flagship bird & wildlife A7000 APSC in a A7 type body with 20 fps shutter, dual card slots and top end screens and viewfinder for $2000?

More people then you can imagine, most pros in the DSLR days, used only APS-C.
Vast majority of Nikon pro bodies were APS-C and Nikon was the go to company in the olden days for professionals.
Just because every UA-camr today uses a Sony or whatever else full frame, does not reflect the userbase as a whole which is still pretty much stuck on older systems, very few "professionals" upgrade their gear and for good reasons, its good enough.

It will be nice to see some A7000 hi-end APS-C camera from SONY with body similar to excellent recent Fuji X-H2. I did not like older retrohipster Fuji cameras, but over time they implemented IBIS properly and now they stepped up the game with X-H2 to whole new level. It has good DSLR like ergonomy similar to my favourite Pentax DSLRs, it has two rollers, excellent top status display and very fine EVF.. compared to that, sony A6xxx line looks like flat brick with a bit of grip. Fortunatelly now A6700 at least has two dials like any proper camera should have. So lets hope they will continue with this and prepare something above, improve ergonomy, use dual card slot, 1/8000 hi-end shutter, 6mil dot EVF, higher resolution and 15+ fps.

I’ve been considering a 6700 in part as it is small, light and with many of the APSC lenses is quite close in size and weight to MFT travel kit (maybe not at long telephoto end). I was thinking of either an OM5 or this. I do pretty much a split between video and photos on long hiking or backpacking trips, so the Sony better at video (wouldn’t exploit many of it features though) but OM stab exceptional. Good news: nice to have choices…bad news…hard to decide! Any suggestions? Regardless, always enjoy your reviews! And yes, I sometimes keep it real light and go with an action camera and my Rx1007…maybe good enough!

    • @cameralabs

Chloe, there's nothing stopping you from also putting out videos saying what you think and which you prefer! As I've said many times before, UA-cam reviews are by their nature made by people who film video daily, so they will inevitably place priority on features that make filming easier, especially filming as a one-person team. But that doesn't mean people have to watch them and give them as much influence as they do. If more people consumed reviews produced by photographers from a photography perspective, then those features would have more influence on future design decisions. Democracy is only as good as the people, right? As you know, I try to occupy both positions. I had 15 years as a journalist in print before UA-cam even started, and that's why I value the written word and still publish written reviews on my site. And as someone who was a stills photographer for 20 years before video was even an option, I know some people couldn't care about video which is why I also try to produce two reviews on each new camera, starting with one focused on photo performance. And in this one I did say there are some who would prefer the old flip style! That all said.... I personally prefer the side hinge on a hybrid camera!

I prefer it on the side as well to get it out of the way of accessories (eyecup, gimbal, etc.)

God, Sony has become so unbelievably lazy and redundantly boring.. no wonder in one single year they went from the top all the way down to near the bottom of the list of market dominance. Every year is the same camera again and again with barely any new even recycled parts and some of the new releases are are inferior to their previous models.

Go back to the 1970s, the time I became camera aware. Every camera used film. Every SLR had a viewfinder. Every rangefinder and a viewfinder. Every camera took pictures. Every camera that used interchangeable lenses used interchangeable lenses. Boring, I know. That was until I bought my Nikon F2A, all black with a honkin' motor drive. I was in the driver seat then.

@@bondgabebond4907 I agree, most cameras were similar then and most of the innovations and differentiators were on the film itself. But then again, every camera you picked-up you instinctively and natively knew how to use and the lasted decades unlike now that there a paranoias of the never-ending "new" model every year that fundamentally the same thing as the one before. Before there were tools that you kept, loved and used. Now there are toys that you play with, discard and move on to lusting the next one.
