Genna25 Thank you so much for stopping by and leaving a nice comment. I am so glad you found the tutorial helpful. Yeah I love the way dark wax enhances a piece of furniture.
Nan M Oh yea! I’m happy you are going to give dark wax a try! Wise Owl has the best products. Get their furniture salve too! I use it to freshen up my drawers of furniture. My customers love the smell. I do have the most adorable boss 😍 Thank you!
Thanks for this video and you answered some of my questions in the comments. I used a pink chalk paint on a very plain bookcase, just the outsides, but would like to darken it just a bit with the dark wax. Do you have suggestions for very flat surfaces?
Can you please tell me what kind of sponge that is that you are using? I can't figure out what to search for to find one like it lol. Thank you in advance! Love your video! :)
Do you have a video where you apply wax to a plain painted piece? Or show how you got your painting to this point? I thought this piece is how it would look like after I put the wax on. I’m just beginning with these finer skills, moving on from just painting. Thank you so much! I think your Nadeline is so cute! ♥️
Have you ever used black wax on a stained piece? I’ve only seen it done on painted pieces. I’d like to use it on my stained mantle. Is there anything I should know about using it on stained vs paint?
Can you apply the wax on latex paint?? Can i also distressed the furniture as well? (After latex paint before dark wax) should i seal it at the end with poly since it is latex paint??
Yes you can apply wax over latex paint. Yes you can distress the paint. I always distress BEFORE applying wax. You can seal latex paint with either just wax or with a water based poly. You can NOT apply water based poly over wax. It won't adhere.
You can apply wax on top of poly. In the world of refinishing furniture we usually say WAX IS LAST. I've applied wax over Polycrylic because the sheen was too glossy and I wanted to tone it down some.
1) where do u get those brushes? 2) how did u make your paint weathered like that? Its absolutely beautiful...just started dabbling in repurposing and i sold my first piece couple weeks ago so im just trying to gain as much know how as i can..thanks!!!! :)
I got those brushes off Amazon. I believe if you search for chalk paint brushes they should come up. I did another tutorial on how to achieve that weathered look. Let me get the link for you... ua-cam.com/video/ZWYxQ74UF70/v-deo.html
Yvonne Marie Huth The clear wax does not have to be dried before you apply the dark wax. I normally don’t work with laminate so I can’t answer that question. I think my boss is pretty cute too!
Laminate is a real pain to work with---in my experience, waxing that surface as is doesn't work very well at all. I finally ended up discovering a paint which covers laminate without sanding---called Retique-It.....painted over the laminate cabinet, then used clear/dark wax. For me, the best way to deal with laminate, is to make it disappear. LOL Hope this helps.
Ran across your channel trying to find a way to change a new piece of furniture. A table with dark top but white bottom....I'm wanting to darken the white....black wax ?? Black glaze ?? Sand the white 1st to give it "tooth" ??? Help!!
Welcome! Glad you found my channel! The white portion already on the piece of furniture...How was the white portion sealed? Is this a piece you bought at a store? Or did you just paint it white and are now asking how to glaze? The look of your glaze will depend on how the paint was applied and what was put on top of the paint. I hope I'm making sense.
Pamela Willis That will be an issue since you aren’t dealing with a clean slate. It’s difficult to know or predict how a glaze will react with a manufactured finish already on the wood.
You do need to prep a bit. I would lightly scuff sand with 120-150 grit sandpaper. You need to create some 'teeth' on the surface to allow the paint to adhere.
Love it, very helpful for a project I'm gearing up for ❤
Wonderful! So glad you found this video helpful.
Great job girlie! Thanx for clarifying the process. I like your videos!
Thank you so much and thanks for watching!
Nice tutorial. Wise owl wax looks great. Good tip to apply over the clear wax. Love the effect. Thanks

Hello , great job 👌
What is different between dark wax and patina ? Please tell me if you know

Sure! It's foam buffer pads. They come in either blue or yellow.

I’m sorry, I just found the link!
Can you put black wax to a 40s dresser to bring out some color in the piece? Or do i have to paint it then use wax?
Black wax has it limitations over just plain wood. Black wax works best over lighter colored paints to create depth and contrast.
Do you have to clear wax again after the black?
No you do not

I have some book shelf yellowish on color...

Can you use black wax after you clear coat
You can do that.

How do you clean those brushes after waxing?
I clean them with mineral spirits. Here's another tutorial I did regarding mineral spirits:

Yes you can
Does the clear wax need to be dried before adding dark wax. My piece is laminate is that still going to work. Your boss is adorable

Purchased piece already finished....dark top w/white bottom....so a manufacturer finish 🤷♀️
Pamela Willis That will be an issue since you aren’t dealing with a clean slate. It’s difficult to know or predict how a glaze will react with a manufactured finish already on the wood.
Do I need to sand off the wood before I do this process?? Or can I just paint it and then do this treatment.

ps....your Boss is adorbs!!
Isn't she the cutest?!?! haha! Love my little girl.
Do you need a brush to apply the wax or can i just use a rag ?
Yvonne Marie Huth You can use a rag too. It’s a personal preference for most people between a brush vs. a rag.
@@madelinejeanantiquesrestor9074 thank you so much for getting back to me. I really appreciate it. Have a great day.
Yvonne Marie Huth Anytime! I’m happy to help 😁
Do you poly before or after?
I don't apply poly after I wax. The wax is the protective coat.
What a cutie Miss Madeline
Sooooo.......wax on......wax off. Got it.
WildRose Yeeeaas! Just like the karate kid! Haha!
Good information but too much yak, yak as it seems you like to talk. Didn’t get to instructions until 3 min. I like getting right to the instructions
Then fast forward. No biggie.
