    I just discovered your channel and must say that in two videos of using dark waxes I learned so much. I am working on my very first project of painting nesting tables and applying an aging wax to them and have been a little apprehensive / nervous about applying wax. However, after watching your videos I feel better armed. You are a great instructor explaining details so well. Thank you, Amanda ❤

    This was SUPER helpful as I'm new to distressing pieces. You're very thorough & answered every question as it came into my mind. The volume was a bit low but once I cranked mine up, it was fine. Thanks again!

    These are by far the very best videos I’ve seen. I love that you give very precise instructions and get right to the point...no chit chat, music or other distracting things going on around you. I do have a couple questions. How much pressure are you applying to the piece when you do the clear wax coat? Also, yours is the first I have seen applying the dark wax on the piece without making sure the clear wax is dry. All the others I have watched (which are a lot) say to let the clear wax dry first. Does this help the dry wax go on easier? Last, I saw a video that recommended adding a small amount of mineral spirits to the dark wax. What is your opinion on that? Thank you, thank you, thank you for your time and efforts spent educating newbies such as myself.
    Karen

      Hi Karen! We love to help! We do not apply a lot of pressure. Annie Sloan always says you should not be working harder to wax than to paint! Clear wax first (and not dry) allows for a consistent finish. You will be able to control you dark wax better if you clear first and then dark right after. If you do it this way, you will not need to add mineral spirits to your dark wax. Hope this helps!

      Thank you for responding so quickly. Oops...I meant dark wax not dry wax. I usually proof read before sending...I was so excited to start that I forgot. I am doing my dining room table and 8 chairs and am so addicted now. I’m getting ready to wax them. It’s great to watch this again to remind me just how to do the wax. Thanks again, you rock!

    I have a buffet top that is natural bright maple with a shellac finish. I want to tone down the pure maple light color/shine to better match my red buffet bottom. How can I do this without stripping the shellac off. Can I do a dark wash or dark wax?

    How do you clean the wax brushes. If you use your clear wax brush. To go over a darker now you have your clear wax brush. Tip is darker. How do you clean that off?

    🍰What a great video. So many of the paint videos are extremely long, chatty, always commenting and saying Hi to
    the viewers and very little demonstrating.

      I would like to know how much time to wait before buffing...there are many different times given depending on the instructors.

    • @SuitePieces
      @SuitePieces  6 років тому

      Hi! Glad to help! You can buff right away and even go back 24 hours later and buff again to get a little more shine!

    Hi. Thank you for your wonderful videos! I just discovered chalk paint and wax and am looking forward to starting my first project. Question: will the dark wax rub off on fabric, etc? I'm guessing that once it has cured the answer is no, but just making sure. Thanks again!

    • @SuitePieces
      @SuitePieces  5 років тому

      Hi! Dark wax will not rub off on fabric is properly applied and cured! We don't, however, recommend using dark wax when painting fabric.

    Does anyone know, can you paint on top of the wax? Like a flower or something on the corner. Great video by the way. Thank you.

    • @SuitePieces
      @SuitePieces  6 років тому +1

      Hi Aimee! Wax should ideally be your last step. If you already waxed, just wait the 30 days for it to cure and then you can paint and wax again!

    Do you do any wooden type cigar boxes and what would you use? Color.

    • @SuitePieces
      @SuitePieces  7 років тому

      There are thousands of color combinations & choices! Personally some of our favorites for a neutral finish are French Linen, Graphite, Pure White or Paris Grey. If you'd like a pop of color, Giverny, Provence, or Arles are lovely! We love all the colors, so this is a tough question!

    After you apply dark wax, do you add a final coat of clear wax?

    • @SuitePieces
      @SuitePieces  4 роки тому

      No. Dark or Brown Wax will be the final coat. Actually if it is TOO dark, you can apply clear after and it will actually remove the dark wax (as long as you applied clear wax first!)

    Can clear wax that has cured for 24 hours be reactivated by applying more wax if the first coat was not applied evenly?

    • @SuitePieces
      @SuitePieces  3 роки тому

      Absolutely! Just over 21 days you'd need to apply a whole new coat

    Black paint- do you use dark wax or black wax? Going for a medieval look on a bed.

    • @SuitePieces
      @SuitePieces  3 роки тому

      For Black you can use, either! Black will make the color deeper and blacker. The dark will add a antiqued brown hue.

    Should the clear wax be wet when you apply the dark?

    • @SuitePieces
      @SuitePieces  4 роки тому +1

      It's not going to be "wet" it just won't be buffed in yet. So apply the clear then immediately apply the dark or brown wax then buff

    can you paint over cheap , I don't know what you call it, it's like a wallpaper like cover over my computer table, its solid wood but covered in something? hope you get what I'm trying to say. Veneer.....yeah

    • @SuitePieces
      @SuitePieces  7 років тому

      Yes you can! As along as the veneer isn't Thermofoil (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermofoil) and isn't peeling off the MDF backing then just clean it and you are good to go!

    CAN THE DARK WAX BE APPLIED TO FURNITURE ALREADY PAINTED WITH PAINT OTHER THAN CHALK PAINT ?

    • @SuitePieces
      @SuitePieces  6 років тому

      It really depends on the paint. Wax is meant to penetrate and seal when used with Chalk Paint®. Traditional paint contains latex and plastics, so the wax would just sit on top.
