Woke up this morning and watched this video. Immediately got my ass into the gym (I was going anyway but sometimes I get there later) ... man what motivation this gave me. I had a killer workout and then I ran 5 miles thanks!
Alan, I want you to know that you have been my inspiration for wanting to learn and become a personal trainer or at the very least to become a power lifter or strongman. I thoroughly enjoy watching all of your videos
love hearing old stories of dealing with dumb command. cant believe where you came from here. Deployment to Japan made me appreciate lifting and having a place to have fun without being in a squad bay. I can only deadlift 365 overhand, bench 265 and squat 275 for 3. not at your level but love watching your dedication
Best video I've seen on this channel. It's always fun to look back through the years. I'd love to have had footage from the mid 90s when I started. No one ever filmed in gyms back then though
What stands out the most to me here is consistency. Through and through you were consistent. Glad to know that when I can't maintain intensity, I can still just be consistent and do the work. Inspiring journey!
Alan, I'm 19 going to college and just got into lifting last year. I'm still pretty weak but really enjoy it and your videos have helped so much. Thank you so much for your content! It really helps me get through the week!
Love to here your story Alan. It helps all of us realate to you and understand who we are taking lifting advice from. Thanks for all the help you've given us👊
Alan, I've been binging on your videos ever since I stumbled upon your channel a couple/three weeks ago or so which I have been enjoying big time, but this is probably the best one yet since it does a great job of showing a lot of your evolution from way back through your Corps days and so on, thanks motivator!
I've been subscribed all these years and didn't know you were a Marine. Definite inspiration seeing the progression throughout the years and how you went from chicken legs to tree trunks. This video made me feel better knowing that I can build up my awfully skinny no calf legs to actually looking good in a pair of shorts.
Best channel on youtube. This autmn i bought some weights, started 5x5 in my attic and this was one of the best decisions in my life. Earlier i spent some time in gyms but never liked atmosphere there and i didn't know much about powerlifting i thought everyone was body builder which was kind of boring for me. Now i'm just waiting till trainig day. Keep up the good work!
You guys a lucky to find what you love on right time.. Am going to be 39 now and only now I fall in love with lifting and weight training.. Also loving strongman concept doing lots of farmers carry etc.. U r a inspiration Mr Thrall...
man, Alan our experience with running is EXACTLY the same. Squatting FIXED my runner's knee too. Cool! My injuries from marathon running led me to powerlifting. I've never looked back.
Nice goin bro! I love how you show the journey. I think everyone gets so caught up in the current product that they give ppl unrealistic expectations. It take time and effort to do what you have done. Both your strength and you gym. SEMPER FI
Hey Allen, As an enlisted marine currently who loves Olympic lifting, powerlifting and bodybuilding it really is inspiring to see the lengths you went to still train how u wanted to. Haha also the Donny Shankle poster in ur garage, I have in my barracks room. Keep making quality content man!
Awesome video Alan and just at the right time as I just joined a gym that has strongman equipment. So far I've only used a log and done some log cleans but it was a lot of fun.
Hey Alan, I love your videos but this one was awesome. I feel kinda lost right now in my strength training, not really knowing where to go from here. Watching you train under some of those circumstances really inspires and motivates me to just say fuggit and go in and get it done.
So cool! Im proud of you Alan, about the issue in comercial gyms, this happens a lot here in Brazil, I suffer with this situation every single week. Personal Trainers be like, "dont push too hard, this is not a crossfit gym" (here we dont have yet strongman gyms, but, since 2014 when I started watching your videos, I realized that was gonna be my lifestyle for now on so.... In brazil or you go to Crossfit super expensive or you go to comercial gym, cheaper but, the personals trainers dont understand your goals) they got all mad just because I squat looking down, "HEY ! DONT LOOK DOWN WHILE SQUATING, U BACK NEED TO BE STRAIGHT, THATS WRONG, BLA BLA BLA"... anyway... I feel you when you said that comercial gym got all mad with strongman workouts! Keep the hard work, maybe one day I will make your guys a visit at Sacramento, work out, learn a ton of stuff and train UNTAMED ! :D˜
You talking about the computer lab on base brings back memories. When I was in you had to by a prepaid card to use the computer lab if you didn't buy your own computer.
Diego Nava it's not a waste, trust me. Eat out game rockets, all kindzz of neck gains. Try it out. I advise buying at least 3 though for good measure. No good things come cheap, remember!
Semper Fi brother! Quick question I just turned 40 and threw life job and family I got away from lifting. I have recently gotten back into it after probably a good 10 years off. Is 40 to old to start strongman training and power lifting? I tried crossfit for 3 months not my thing. Just curious if there are older people doing it. Great vids!!
"Sir, I'm gonna have to ask you to stop deadlifting, it's shaking the entire building."
Goddamn fucking goals right there son.
"But Alen, u don't even do Strongmen no more? WTF"
I have some powerlifting goals I'm chasing down right now.
Alan Thrall what you trying to hit?
Alan Thrall Thank you for showing us your amazing adventure through life. It was very tasty to digest.

"Just eat and lift weights"!! Man that's my dream
Heard Metallica and System of a Down in there. Fuck yeah
Hey man love seeing these videos. Real cool to see you in the same industry and similar business with a different yet similar story! Awesome stuff.

Good video. I had to wipe away a nostalgic tear when you're doing ass to grass squats. Ah, good times...

Awesome, I was just at Colliseum gym over the weekend to watch the Maryland's Strongest Man competition.
Hey Allen,
As an enlisted marine currently who loves Olympic lifting, powerlifting and bodybuilding it really is inspiring to see the lengths you went to still train how u wanted to.

Loved these stories and footage. Looks like you've been ridiculously strong for a minute.
Wow, Alan without a beard? Cool vid seeing the start of your lifting career and all. Looks like you've always had some impressive quads.
Hey Alan, I love your videos but this one was awesome. I feel kinda lost right now in my strength training, not really knowing where to go from here. Watching you train under some of those circumstances really inspires and motivates me to just say fuggit and go in and get it done.
People often lack the story that led to success such a great video
it's great to see that you and your beard came a long way

You followed Arnie's example, and went to a competition against orders.
