    Great review brother. I will always recommend Cocs and Ghp grippers and Gd90 Irongrip Ext as the grippers that will be the best for building grip and overall strength all over the body. Ps I Started with Coc grippers : trainer -2.5 and gd90 and now going for the No Set of a amazingly strong filed Coc#3 and the 3.5s and the even stronger than 3.5s Ghp#8. You will love how everything goes up and tense your body different ways you'll work the neck, chest , biceps and do leg stomps when using them or isos and heavy grippers even work legs. Amazing!!

    It's not my business but if your goal is to close number 1, high reps may not be the best approach (I was going to do the same thing until I did some research into this) ......try fighting with 1 as your "working sets"......and do assisted closes (using help with your other hand), then u can hold it for as long as u can, then slowly let it open your hand until the handles are about parallel then let it go. Yes this comes from my research, I think it's pretty sound, if you were going to bench press 500lbs, which do you think would be more effective, doing 250lbs for reps and reps or fighting with something like 480lbs or something for 2 or 3 reps.......I'd wager the latter for sure.

    • @99999george
      @99999george 4 роки тому +2

      to be honest, high reps work perfectly fine on the lower level grippers. i closed the number 1 on my first try and got the number 2 to parallel, each with no set as i didnt know what i was doing at the time. all i had done prior was high reps on one of those plastic grippers. you're right though, high reps is a sub-optimal progression form, but i find that only seems to be a problem once you reach more difficult grippers, its a bit like newbie gains, you can do anything as you're getting that basic strength and you will progress. high reps have less chance for injury too and are well suited to beginners as opposed to max effort holds, choker sets, and negatives etc

    • @Rick-si1re
      @Rick-si1re 4 роки тому

      @@99999george well it didn't work for me, I just came back to my CoCs after a long lay off and I could hardly close the trainer for 2 or 3 reps with my left hand and this was after being able to do the S gripper which is supposedly 80lbs for about 10-12 reps maybe more. I was a little disappointed, I did some research into it and I found that some of that stuffs u said towards the end works better towards closing the next gripper and closing a lighter gripper several times in a row, works more towards endurance.
      It's the same thing like I said, you wouldn't bench press 250lbs 15 plus times in preparation for a 500lbs bench press would you? or would you go after the heavier weights? I know you'll argue "yeah but that's weight lifting" what makes u think it will be any different for your grip strength. Look from what you tell me you already have strong hands if you can close 1 on your first try, I got that thing in the early 2000s and I couldn't put a dent in it and as a person who was weight lifting pretty consistently and even powerlifting at one point, I don't have weak hands, so I don't think that was the case....maybe u were gifted, I wasn't, I had to bust my ass for any kind of strength gains, if that works for you, then good for you. It didn't work for me...next week I'm going to try that trainer again after I did quite a bit of work with another gripping tool, but with that thing I did some "heavy sets" ....squeezing until I reached a sticking point....I'll let u know the results if you're interested!

    • @Rick-si1re
      @Rick-si1re 4 роки тому

      George Looker I noticed u said "more difficult grippers" but anything in my opinion CoC is difficult, ...furthermore that is different for every person, the trainer is a bit difficult for me but you can probably close it in your sleep. So that's a bit vague there, no offense but it is.....

    • @99999george
      @99999george 4 роки тому

      @@Rick-si1re don't get me wrong, high reps are not the best way to progress. I apologize if i generalised my own current strength level as a standard for all people. What i was trying to say is that it might be best to work with grippers you find less challenging before doing lots of super intense holds and negatives with your challenge gripper as for those who haven't become well accustomed to grippers can often mess these more advanced techniques up. The injury risk is very high for things like negatives if you go too far or you do them incorrectly. nothing puts more stress on your tendons (specifically the outermost knuckles) than performing a slow negative all the way into the almost open position for instance. Until you know how to set a gripper in the right way for you personally, i feel its best to use easier grippers and to build up reps. Yes there is an element of endurance built up but there is a small carryover to strength too. However, the most important thing is cementing your set position and technique. I believe a client of Jedd Johnson said in a Jujimufu video that Jedd gave him #0.5 to use just to practice set and closing technique and within a few months he went from complete beginner to the #2.5. Its the technique that benefits most from closing a gripper you can close comfortably. Once you've practiced closing the lighter ones for you, the technique should carry over to heavier ones. Many people complain about only being able to close a gripper 1 in 5 times they attempt it. You expend the same amount of energy regardless so at least try and get yourself to a point where you very rarely miss a gripper because of a bad set exclusively. Once you have that consistently, of course you want to move on to more advanced progression techniques but just take care to avoid injury. I'm by no means gifted by the way, i have a tiny (6 7/8)" hand length and quite thin girly fingers. I'm also hypermobile (double jointed) which is great for gymnastics but horrible for strength training as it essentially means i have poor quality or less connective tissue. The only aspect of hand strength i have that i suppose is well-developed is my thumb/palm strength. This is due to the fact ive only ever used a double over hand and a hook grip for deadlifts and rows. And yeah, feel free to keep me informed on how you're progressing! Good luck!

    • @Rick-si1re
      @Rick-si1re 4 роки тому

      @@99999george
      first of all thank you for wishing me good luck on my progression with these grippers, and second of all thank you for not being rude and disrespectful even though we're having somewhat of a slight disagreement here.
      I agree with what you're saying about the risks being high with isometric holds and even negatives, on the topic of negatives there is actually a video on youtube that a guy has done who talks about doing doing negatives correctly with grippers and how most folks do them wrong. I think most people hold the gripper shut and then slowly release it until it's fully open, he was basically saying that's incorrect and unsafe and can cause tendon injury with a really heavy gripper. He said the right way to do it was to hold the gripper closed, slowly release it until the handles are parallel and then just release it quickly. I'd wager that's alot safer and would also maximize the benefits of the negative, which I'll admit before I saw his video, I was probably going to do it the entire way like most people would, thinking that would be more beneficial.
      Yeah I commented the other day on one of Jedd's videos myself, so I know who he is, he's a grip enthusiast like you and I. Yeah that's an interesting story, my only question is, if he gave him the 0.5 gripper which is about 120lbs as I understand it, was that his ONLY source of grip training or did he do a ton of other things gripper related in a few months time and then and only then could he close that 2.5, which is a feat in and of itself!
      I think technique or form as we call it in the weightlifting world is very important in any exercise and yes you're right you can and you certainly should have very good form. I think my form is alright, my left hand is weaker then my right hand but I do train both hands when I do my Gripper training. I just think that the heavy work is where your strength comes in at and it's no different from any thing else with resistance training, if you want to be strong you have to lift heavy or in the case of grippers, you have to "close" heavy. lol I'm like a bully, I'm all over this damn number 2 here, I can't .........I can't even put a dent in this thing but I try his ass every time I do my workout here, I can't even get to parallel yet with it.
      I just got done with a workout, my fingers are sore typing this, before when I got started a few weeks back, I barely could close the trainer and like I told you that was after I did like 12 reps with the sport which is 80lbs. I started training with a different gripping tool and I started going heavy. Now I can close the trainer for a good 4-5 times with my left hand and probably a few more then that with my right hand, which as I said is the stronger of my two hands and that's probably because I'm right handed like most people, so that's my progress for now. How about yourself, how are you doing with your gripper training? This is why I believe in training relatively heavy when you're getting ready to close your "challenge gripper" and I'd be all over his ass, flip it and try, u know ..........grab it etc., maybe a half ass negative, go after him, it's what I believe. I did that with the number 1 ........damn this comment is long lol. I did that with the number 1 and I came very close to closing it but that was years ago, as I said, I'm back after a long lay off but the difference between then and now is that I'm training correctly now, I believe I am, before I would just horse around and just do w/e. I didn't have any plan when I trained, now I have a set goal of what I'm going to do in my sessions, and these damn fingers are sore. ....Alright that's enough for now, sorry for the long comment, the perils of being an intellectual person.

      That's something I can really give an informed opinion on. I can do around 30 reps on the Trainer and own a #1. If your goal is to keep a budget and not own a whole bunch I would recommend a #1.5, which I think you can probably close but not do 2 reps. A 1.5 is actually much closer to a 1 than it is to a 2, there's almost no sense in owning both a 1 and a 1.5. Likely this advice is hitting you years too late but hopefully it can help someone else who sees it. If you were like me and only able to do about 30 on the Trainer, I'd say get the #1 and skip over the 1.5 in the future when the time comes.

      A lot of people who use the 2 handle Universal-style machine still just refer to it as "bench press" and describe the amount as being how much they bench. I suspect it's that, and 330 would be about as tough as doing a legit 265.
