Bootsy is a fucking trooper. He never raged while playing this game. Who the hell would start from the begining and be calm as he was?
people who can do these type of games typically don't rage, i've never seen a speed runner who rages, they understand the mindset and are super meticulous
this is how people can beat "getting over it" but also speed runners can beat it
Me! I'm a superior gamer.
The reason everything is online multiplayer these days is because nobody has friends anymore. Or maybe that's just me...
@D G yea but it would be awesome to have friends come ovet your place and just play in the same room, or maybe with a SO or your kids tho.
@D G yea me too. Id prefer to play with friends in the couch or with my family, it is one thousands times better. Remember the days of mario kart or mario party with friends on the 64? It was a BLAST. I guess you dont play games not because your AGE, but because man we have no time for anything.
I am 26, and have given up gaming because simply I have other priorities, i have no kids tho neither. But work/gym/social/self improvement eats all my time. Sucks to be an adult.
No, it's true, no one has friends anymore LOL
If you could play local co-op, you only have to buy one console/disc. If it's online multiplayer only, everyone has to buy a separate copy
What's weird is that games with the option of offline multiplayer tend to have higher sales, so there is probably some weird secret reason for it being removed.
I would've liked to see a two player run.
I've never seen anyone beat the Turbo Tunnel on co-op.
***** Someday (hopefully) Bootsy and I will attempt to beat the entire game together.
- Mike
***** I have a 2 player upload of the entire game no warps on my channel.
Cinemassacre oh I can't wait to see that. Oh and best of luck bootsy on your new channel!
ford frenzy Bootsy will be on this channel. The Cinemassacre channel.
- Mike
***** bootsy can probably beat the whole game in co-op mode without a second player
I just watched the whole episode, that was intense! Bravo Bootsy!
I could watch you guys play retro titles forever.
give that guy a fucking medal.
I knew this game was hard but holy sh*t never realized how hardcore it was
I always forget that Battletoads is a NES game because it just looks way too good for that era. Makes sense considering it was made just a few months before the release of the SNES.
Pretty fun game! You can still finish the game with two players if you can get to stage 11 with any continues remaining. Let player two game over but *not* continue, so you can beat stage 11 with one player, and then player two can press start during the blue map screen afterward and it'll use up a continue to join back in for stage 12. Hope that helps!
this is a great sit and drink some beers type of show/episode. sometimes i'll just hold a controller in my hands for more immersion.
Damn
Hey whatever works works
i miss this
..I think all that Nintendo Tape, and "board" having been slang back in the day was more a PA thing because I am the same age roughly as James and Mike and NO one around me in MN ever said that stuff. It was always cartridge and level
Colt Gustafson same in Texas
Lived in Pa (suburbs of philly) my whole life and never called them tapes. I called them games and/or carts. I did use both board and level.
Same in Texas and Chicago (grew up both places) it was stage or level and cartridge or just "game"
My mom and dad would say tape instead of cartridges.
I lived in the southeast. Everyone called them cartridges or games. Absolutely nobody said "tapes" or "game paks".
Bootsy is so laid back and cool. All three of these guys are awesome.
you guys need to play Boogerman on Genesis!
Bootsy is a jedi master
Awesome video! I love it when you guys beat a game start to finish, especially watching Bootsy's play throughs, the guy is a BEAST.
Bootsy, is there any game you can't beat? You're a goddamn machine!
The man is a PRO. Amazing skills!
The obstacle course at the end of Double Dare
I
I was born in '82. I never called a Nintendo cartridge a "Nintendo tape". And I've never called the levels a board. I either called it a level or a stage.
I was born in 81. My friends and i all called them tapes.
Depends on the region. We call soft drinks here pop but talking to some friends from down south they had no idea what I was talking about.
+Chris Ward I was born in 01, long after NES, and my friends and I just called them "Games"
Yeah, I don't remember calling them tapes either. I seem to remember them always being cartridges, but that could be false memory all these years later
Great to have a Bootsy featured episode, something a lot of people have been wanting for a long time (and of course, enjoyed the Slicer Surfe episode too). Thanks, Bootsy, for taking time to do this sorta thing! It's a lot of fun to see you play these games with such skill and perseverance.
Really looking forward to Bootsy Beats. Just awesome! Also, a great episode of feel-goodery couch co-op. Cheers, gents!
This didn't age well :/
@@ELEKTROSKANSEN you gotta give me the rundown on what's going on with these guys lately. Been a while lol
Used to love watching these guys play games!
I'll never forget the straight hours I had to put into each level, dying time and time again using the infinite lives code just to get through the game. On the sewer level, I gave up after about 3 hours of making no progress (and nearly gave up on the orb level after another 3), but I have seen and beaten all the levels, with the code of course. Tensed up and congratulated Bootsy as I watched every moment of this video. What a fantastic job he did; ridiculous game, will never forget it as long as I live.
You did Great Beating Battletoads! Bucky o hare is another Hard game! you should play that game next on James & Mike Mondays.
I always found Bucky O'Hare to be amongst the easier games in the NES, at least, it was way easier than Battletoads.
More Bootsy in these Monday videos.
I'm getting Rare Replay even though don't own an Xbone, so that in the future when I get an Xbone for cheap, I'll be able to enjoy my favourite classics, even though I own them in their original format already. It's Rare, I have to support them (I also supported the old Rare members with Yooka-Laylee).
Benobot99 Same Here.
TheTruth4k You'll love Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie as well. Perfect Dark is still my favourite game of all time, so trying it with 2 analog sticks will be interesting (even though I know it's on the Xbox Live Marketplace already).
MikeHoopla I like supporting the launch sales of games (it helps show the developer that there's interest in their product), and it's only going to be $30 + tax, so it's not a big deal.
Plus a $10 dollar gift card if you pre-ordered off microsoft's website.....What? It's a good deal.
Who put you on the planet?? UGH!!
The farthest I've ever gotten in all my years of playing is the exclamation points section in the turbo tunnel. I fall thru the platforms too, and to think this is early on there are like fifteen more levels after that? That's insane.
Ok, I'm going to dispel the confusion over the various Battletoads releases again. There are five proper games:
1. Battletoads (NES)
2. Battletoads (GB)
3. Battletoads and Double Dragon (NES)
4. Battletoads in Battlemaniacs (SNES°
5. (Super) Battletoads (Arcade)
That's it. All the rest are ports, most of them watered down.
Also:
-to beat this version with two players, you have to waste Player 2's current continue on stage 11, then just bring him back for stage 12.
-Bootsy actually took a shortcut on Karnath's Lair, that final snake is supposed to do a few more waves and it's pretty crazy.
-Sharks take 6 hits to actually kill, ducks are immortal. You could have simply jumped over most of them though.
You missed battletoads 9001 mudkipz edition
Seth Rohl if you have continues left you can opt not to use them, then on the load screen you press start and you come back
long time for me and my bro to beat this,,,, it took years.. long time .. thank you guys
I was obsessed with this game as a kid. I did beat it twice long ago. I'll have to hook my NES back up and play again! I still have all my games.
Battletoads and TMNT were my two main games as a child.I never finish games and always have them on max difficulty. Something fun about the frustration and knowing it has infinite replays.
I never knew they were considered difficult. I'm sure that experience has shaped the way I game.
lol neither games have difficulty settings
@@Syckwun it was a reference to other games. Like dirt rally 2. It's super frustrating on its hardest settings.
This guy is so calm I would be cursing and yelling the whole fucking way. He's good!!
James, I totally agree with you that this game is the hardest game I've ever played, (ESPECIALLY the ninja Gaiden games!)
at least the Genesis version of battletoads was slightly dumbed down but they took out the story in that one, which sucks
Actually if you play this game with a control on the second player slot you can play with another yellow battleoad (Pimple)
They know that, but there’s a glitch in level 11 where player 2 can’t move at all and then keeps on dying.
Battletoads Double Dragon is super easy compared to this.
webmasale I must really suck, I struggled with both
especially the SNES version
This is the best James and Mike Mondays.
OMG! I was so excited to see You beat the turbo tunnel. I've never beaten that stage. But if I ever get that game, I'm going to give a try. You've inspired me. Thanks James and Mike for doing all theses videos. You guys Rock!!!!!!!
This is fucking insane. Hats off to Bootsy. Great video as always!!
10:28 James, I know how you feel, buddy.
All three of them should play the Battletoads Arcade game....That's a stark contrast when it comes to NES vs. Arcade.
On the James and Mike Monday video for Battletoads, on the turbo tunnel you weren't falling through the platforms, you were trying to land too early. It only looks like you were falling through because the screen is moving so fast.
I'm not playing the game but whenever they mess up I'm yelling "aw fuck!" Haha
1 hr! Yes!
I never thought that this game was that long and difficult. This video sums it up perfectly.
Thank you. I spent soooooo many hours 20 years ago with me and my friends losing over and over and over. Watching two funny guys that are friends with another funny guy that can wreck that game is a weird what if? paradox feeling. Great video. I don't know how 11 year old me would have felt, but, THAT WAS ALL I GOT FOR AN ENDING?!??!
Did James actually beat Zelda 2 with the Power Glove, or did he beat it normally then edit the Power Glove bit in?
toalazlo6 you don't need to be an ass about it, YaBoySmitty already told him it was just a comedy bit
TreDrummer13 It's staged but it's actually not unbelievable because you can cheat the last boss battle by kneeling in the corner and spamming attack
***** A euphemism? Isn't that how we beat all of our problems in life anyway?
TreDrummer13 santa is real also...
RuggedALAN Oh nice comeback, moron. As I said before the Power Glove was plugged in and the game was going on the screen. It looked real to me.
I played Battle toads when i was like 8 years old i didnt stop til i beat it. I cant remember how long it took but i remember how happy i was i think i cried because of how long it took.
You know, fun fact I heard once. The NES and its cartridges were designed to resemble video tapes in some ways because Nintendo thought the market would react better to something they were familiar with. The original design either felt too foreign or too much like a computer or something, which they didn't think the US market would appreciate. So the fact that everyone was calling them Nintendo tapes was actually somewhat intentional.
If you haven't played this game you literally can't understand that this is impossible...
Arcade version had Super Battletoads which let you select all 3 toads and had a more violent aesthetic to it (Cutting Rats' heads off with blades, drilling a rat's face in, grabbing a guy by his nads and punching them to kill him) It was a more regular beat em up and had less focus on platforming sections.
You guys should play Out Of This World AKA Another World. That game is tough!
Tapes must've been a regional thing, we always called them cartridge's.
the worlds need a video of Mike, James and Bootsy dancing randomly to the pause music of this game, LET'S MAKE IT REAL!!!
Amazing, great to finally see what the rest of the game looks like!
I had such a time with the Turbotunnel. The problem is I early pass-out because I have to hold my breath. I think I beat it once.
Props, man. I didn't even have the patience to get past Turbo Tunnel.
KID ICARUS next time!
In Sweden we called the cartridges "cassettes" and the levels we called "tracks" (the equivalent Swedish words of course). At least me and my friends did.
Oh hey, if anyone was curious, the reason older thngs look bad on new TVs is because people would use the imprecise nature of the electron guns of a CRT display as a sort of compression. Video games especially, to save space, which was very limited. So technically, modern TVs display oldgames perfectly. The graphics were designed intentionally "wrong".
The creativity and effort the old game designers had is still impressive.
Splitscreen rules over all forms of multiplayer no lag no internet connection required and you can punch your friends in the face when they kick your ass :D
I'm here and they just released a Battletoads 2020 video game.
Watching this, I find myself wondering how I actually managed to beat this as a kid. This game is brutal.
There were frogs on the T.M.N.T. cartoon an they were the turtles' friends. From Okieebanokee swamp or somethin.
It's possible to max out the score in the third level already if you bounce the birds on the second level enough for score/1ups. :)
I just beat the game yesterday!
Watching speedrunners on Awesome Games Done Quick beat this game is like watching someone paint a perfect reproduction of the Mona Lisa, upside down and blindfolded.
The Revolution, when you kill enemy by punch Ram have 1000 points, and Ram finisher 2000 points, you dont do last punch Ram, do fists finisher and you have 5000 points. This is give you some points for Extra lives on The Revolution.
P.S my english bad. :)
I've beaten every Ninja Gaiden but this game is insane.
You guys should do more of this video i love them
Bootsy is always so calm and collected. Outside of board james that is.
I had the same reaction to finding out that certain games don't have local co-op. The reason for it though is definitely that the game companies can make more money that way because it forces two people to buy the game if they want to play together.
Really wish James & Mike would play Power Blade/ Power Blazer on the NES. That game is a classic. Great soundtrack.
damn... completely forgot I used to call a stage/level a board.
To this day I still play games with my friends in the same room
New or old games? I can go set up a StarCrack LAN party anytime I want, lol
i was pass away all this levels at 2001 or 2002 what a nostalgia!!!!
Did someone just rip a solid one on 30:56 ? Holy crap that made me crack the fuck up :') I almost died
Battletoads really pushed the NES to it s limits
Awesome work guys.
Well since you guys are doing more famicom videos and I know that James loves rock and metal music, you guys should try out the game Holy Diver for the famicom that was only released in Japan. It's a REALLY difficult game however.
for an NES game the music and graphics are damn good
The swirly ball in Clinger Winger is the Hypno Orb.
So, the real truth here is that this is actually a badly designed game then, with lots of unfair deaths that you couldn't possibly see coming unless you'd already played the game and presumably died in that spot previously. I mean the game looks kinda cool, and I have a lot of nostalgic retro love for the Battletoads, but that's just bad level design. If I were reviewing this game I'd actually have to score it down greatly because of that. There's no excuse/defence for bad gameplay design and/or level design, even in early video games, because all that comes down to is making good design decisions.
inceptional I agree, completely! Dude, there really is no excuse. It has some terrible design choices, even if most are intentional.
inceptional I agree with everything you said! Yes, the level design is not good at all. This game doesn't allow 'instinctive play'. Not one bit.
***** Well I guess the title of the rat level at least gives you some clue as to what your supposed to do; so I'll partly take that one back :-P
Stone Coggins Yeah; watching though again, it's not quite as bad as I thought, and it's mostly the later levels where it gets a bit unfair, like you said.
So far.. I've gotten to Volkmire's Inferno (playing the US version). I haven't really practiced much and it was my second time, reaching the level. Maybe on the next try, I'll make it.
Wow this was a flashback to many many hours of frustration, so hard!
Donkey Kong Jr math is the hardest game ever.
General Slaughter is actually a bull.
James & Mike Mondays should play Battletoads/Double Dragon.
Battletoads makes Lost Levels look like a slow ride to grandma's house.
I picked up street fighter 2010 in 89 i think, that game is brutal. not many people played it, at least not in my circles. one of my top favs.
Bootsy would have Lucas from the Wizard growing up. That guy that walks into a room with a power glove and whoops everybody's ass at video games.
The turbo tunnel will always be absolutely ridiculous
41:10 - there are dots which transfer you 2 levels up. You don't need to go through the "ice" map and :)
lol its almost like they were talking extra to distract him during the hard parts lol
This is the video that earned my respect for Bootsy
Bootsy beats is a really good idea, I like it
Just watching this gives me so much anxiety.
So much.
Anxiety.
20:50 - OMG, I remember, beating this as a kid!...
Wow! He beats the whole game without wasting a single cont. Kinda like I have a new challendge
As much as I have loved following AVGN since the Karate Kid video days, I kind of prefer James and Mike Mondays featuring Cameo more
You guys are pretty funny on your own, and it to me- feels like I'm actually in the room also, hanging out with my nostalgia video game enthusiast friends.
If we get AVGN every once in awhile, I definitely would appreciate it, but I think I'm the rare (pun) exception that likes JMM better.
-Cinemassacre forever!
James,I think I said this before, if I did allow me to reiterate, you're shirts are awesome!
Bootsy needs his own show. Guy is the shit. Cool guy.
The re-release should let you choose which of the two difficulties you want to play.
I would love to see you guys play the canceled SNES StarFox 2. I think there are carts of it available to buy online.
I didn't know BT had warps!
