Necessity is the mother of invention! Amiright? If you have stairs, what do you do to keep them looking their best? I’m all ears!
I put individual carpet stair pads on my stairs. I used carpet tape. So far so good. I do like the looks of your runner though.
I use one of those little carpet scrubber machines like the Little Green Clean Machine. I also have a full sized carpet cleaning machine. I use them on all of area rugs and stair runners. I've done this for years. I just don't understand the need for washable rugs because I have my carpet scrubbers.
Same here! That little green machine is mighty!
@@SJB25 Hmmm, good to know. I will check that out!
Beautiful job! Those stairs must feel so lush and luxurious to walk on now! I’ve always wanted a beautiful stair runner like this!
Our wood stairs were painted when we bought our house. I’ve repainted them a different color and can just add another layer of paint once they wear down again. It’s totally possible that I’ll add a stair runner at some point but I quite like the current look and the ease of cleaning a hard surface.
Love that you don’t have to wash a rug the length of your whole stairs but just the dirty section! Beautiful!
Yes, this was important to me!!
For anyone interested in this idea, I heard that Aldi has a knock off for these Rugs that makes them much more affordable. Check it out.
Sarah, I made my husband watch this. I Want to do our basement stairs, but he said ,no,no (laughing) you can’t watch this video anymore!
Great job! Rugable owes you a retroactive sponsorship! 😊
Ha! Good idea.😆
I remember my mom doing this in their old house with stairs.
I think she took the solid brass stair rods with her when they moved.😂
Great job!💪
The way the cost of brass has skyrocketed, your mom was smart to keep them. Quality was probably much better on the old ones too. 😉
At 60 bucks a pop who can blame her
We have wood stairs in our 1940 house. So far, they look great. A few scratches, but i think our no shoes policy keeps them nice. I will keep this in mind though, as we have only owned the past 4 years, so unsure when they were resurfaced. Your fix looks awesome!
Stair runners were traditionally installed with extra "runner" length folded at the risers so the runner could be re-positioned to prevent excessive wear at the edge of the steps.
You undo the rods, unstaple the folded bit and move the runner up or down, fold the excess again and reattach it.
Tedious, but that's what housemaids were for.
UA-cam must have recommended this to me because we are kindred spirits! I went down this SAME problem-solving rabbit hole a few months ago. Needed the same: Ruggable washable stair runner with removable rods. I gave up and set the brainstorming aside after a bit bc I hit a wall. So cool to see someone else make it to the end! I am subscribing to you now!
Yes. Did this two years ago in our new home....turned out great. No more sliding on the wood stairs. You did a very nice job.
Wow! Great idea! Looks beautiful!
The stairs look amazing! You and your hubby did a fantastic job! Sarah, watching you makes me happy. Thank you❣️
Thanks so much! 😊
Love love love how this turned out!! So beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
Great idea! I have a ruggable area rug in my living room. I’ve had it for 3 years now & I wash it about every 6-8 weeks. It is amazing! Your stairs look beautiful! 😊❤😊❤😊
We have wood stairs in our new house as well. The previous owners did padd them but whatever fabric they use catches EVERYTHING! Been thinking of how I want to redo them and this popped up on my feed today. I love it! Thanks for the inspiration! 😍
The stair runner looks wonderful. Great job. Blessings.
Absolutely love this idea! Turned out so beautiful!
This was pure genius, Sarah. It's gorgeous. I always learn so much from you. Thank you for your creativity and inspiration!
It turned out beautiful! At first as I was doing the math in my head I thought the cost seemed really high, but overall, for the look, I think it wasn’t so very unreasonable. Well done!
Yes, it was an investment, but refinishing them would have cost us a lot more and then wouldn't have lasted very long. I could even change out the style completely and use the same pads and rods later on.
Very cool! Yep, you're a genius for sure! If you find that your new skin care doesn't give you 100% clear skin, a teeny tiny speck (less is definitely more here) of a generic antibiotic cream (not ointment) directly on the blemish will clear up a breakout faster than any other treatment I've found. It can also totally prevent a breakout if you feel one coming on and use the antibiotic cream. I've been treating breakouts this way for 10+ years and it's miraculous.
So beautiful, Sarah!!!!!🤩🤩👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I love it!, the washable rugs and linking them was a wonderful idea!
Your stairs look beautiful Sara! Nice ! 💐 Your entire home is beautiful and very lovely with all the work and time you invested. Congrats to both you and your dear husband! 💗
Beautiful job. The stairs look lovely.
Looks AMAZING, Sarah. Trial and Error leads to a wonderful solution.
Thank you, Terri, yes, it is really satisfying to find a solution!
It looks beautiful Sarah. I love it.
Wow! What a gorgeous difference it made!
Such a creative solution!! Love your choice of carpet
Love your hair today, Sarah!👌🏻 The stairs turned out beautiful.✨
This is a GREAT idea, providing the rugs fit, as you mentioned! Thank you!
Sarah it looks beautiful and I love the pattern you chose 💕☺️
I was literally wondering today about this very thing! I am so grateful you came up with this hack!!
I love it, and so would my old house !! Keep up the good work !!
Cost $840 and the rugs are $833 for a total of $1673 (does not include tax and shipping). Considering that your stairs are on the main floor, this "investment" makes more sense than if your stairs go into a basement or less visible area of the house. Runners are an option versus the smaller pads which I think make more sense since the selling point behind this product is that they can be bundled up easy and washed.
This is true, I think that finding a source for just the brackets and cutting down pipe would bring the cost way down. It was very important that I just be able to wash a small section at a time, so it was worth the extra expense to me.
Wow...that's crazy. I mean if you got the cash then awesome.
This was popular in the 60's, our house, all my Auntie and Uncle's houses, friends.. everyone had it. There were eye bolts at each end screwed into the stair and gold rods that were very narrow, you put in 1 side then the other, they also had little round gold ball endcaps. Both the rods and the endcaps were really heavy, makes me think they were brass.
You ARE a genius and it fits the vintage farmhouse style!
looks lovely, so great you can clean it, and it will be much quieter going up the stairs too.
Such a great hack and I love the pattern you chose, I have the same 'ruggable' pattern down stairs in my family room. Great choice it looks even better on your stairs, lol I may do that to the my stairs now. Looks beautiful, Sarah!
This came out so beautiful! ❤❤❤
Yay!!! This just might be the answer to my stair issues...jotting this down in my idea notes!!
I have been looking for a solution to our stair runner issue- thank you so much for this video! (And all of your others 😊)
Wow! That was brilliant! I just sent your video to my husband!
What a brilliant idea!
Looks so good, creates a whole different vibe on the stairway and it ties in nicely with the look your going for, great idea…❤️❤️
Yes! Thank you!
That looks really great Sarah.
The runner looks great, a job well done
I am so doing this. Thank you, thank you.
It looks fabulous! Well done super creative lady! 👏👏👏
Thanks so much! 😊 You are so sweet!
This is such a great idea. Omg! You should be sponsored! The best thing is you can remove each rug & wash it. That’s genius!
Oh I can't believe you did this as I was thinking of doing the same. I'm so glad you did this video as I was wondering how to go about it all. Thanks 😊
THANK YOU SO MUCH! WHAT A SMART IDEA TO USE RUGGABLE ON YOUR STAIRS!
Amazing DIY! You are a genius!
Absolutely genius!
Looks great what a brilliant idea
Hi Sarah. Do not have stairs in this house but if I did, would definitely try your hack…. What a money saver it came out beautiful.!!! The two of you did a great job.
Oh my stars! Amazing idea!
Looks wonderful
Really like the runner !
Turned out great!

Wow! Let's hear it for the 🔥HOT🔥 couple! 🙌 Great hack too! Thanks guys
Great idea!
I love this idea!!! Great job.
Thank you! 😊
Brilliant!!! It looks beautiful
Thank you! 😊
You did it!! Looks beautiful! I like the videos with the two of you! Adorable! More please 🤗
Thank you! What a sweet thing to say. Will do!
Oooooo! I was thinking of using a ruggable runner on the stairs but the website said it wasn't for it but this was exactly what I was thinking!! Thank you x
Yes, the Ruggable lawyers are afraid someone will try this and trip and they will get sued. But, I have had zero issues with tripping.
Brilliant idea!!!
Y'all make it look so easy. I'm afraid I'd be on the struggle bus with this project.
That tea is really working. Your skin is l lovely. I think I'll buy some to give as a gift to a young woman I know. Thank you for the recommendation.
I love this idea and it looks beautiful! I have braided stair runners on my stairs, just replaced them due to our remodel and changing colors but the previous ones lasted 15 years and were still in good condition! I also used peel and stick riser paper on the risers!
Great idea ! I don't have kid's here or animals that use the stairs in a bad way, so got a super long cut to measure runner to nail down in the " crook " of the stairs.
Looks so great!!!!
Thank you!!
Love it! ❤
Love that idea! I have a runner but I can’t take it off to wash it! I’ve got to look into this!
Love this idea
Thank you! 😊
Brilliant!
Great look. I saw someone else do this with longer runners. I think if they are nylon, etc. you could still remove them to wash outside in sections. Was thinking of this for basement stairs.
I have never heard of or seen those rods for stairs. But I think the runner looks nice!
Sarah, I feel your pain with the fir steps. We have fir trim and doors and they ding and scratch so easily. Your project is fabulous! 💝
I've done the same thing to our steps in our old house for the same reason you did except I used different rugs that matched well from World Market. I didnt use the rods because they would have been to expensive I wish I could post a picture I absolutely love the way yours and mine turned out.
Already did this….2 yrs. Ago. Love it!
Did you use the Ruggables? I'm sure the community here would love to hear how the whole process is holding up! I searched and searched and hadn't found any blogs, etc... that spoke about having made their runner with washable rugs!
Awesome idea 👍
Love it! Love it! Love it! ❤️ You are such a clever Lady!!😉 So glad you chose that Gorgeous rug pattern 😍 Can't wait to see the finished room🥰
Awesome, awesome, awesome!!
Hi Sarah Hi husband, I love your wallpaper. That was such a smart way to do the stairs. It really looks beautiful. Great job.🎉
Genius girl! And cute handyman 😎
Ingenious!!!
Great idea
What a fabulous idea!!!.....love the pattern and the colors!!!....I have a ranch style house, so no need for stair runners.....but if we did have stairs..... ain't no way would my husband help me with a project like that.....great video btw!!!....
New sub here, love your channel and this is such a great idea; stair results are sublime.
Thank you and welcome!
This reminds me of my grandmas house. I don’t know but stairs are always preference.
Beautiful
So clever!
I put 2 hall runners on the stairs at my last house. It worked really well.
Gorgeous
“He’s not mad, he’s just thinking…”. So very funny!! 😂
I love Ruggables!
I'm loving mine, too!
@@SheHoldsDearly We finally swapped all our wool rugs for Ruggables. We have 3 elderly dogs, 3 cats with fur balls, and a ton of neighbor kids in and out of the house. Well loved home but I needed easier rugs. I sound like a commercial but I really love them! And they started making a few pieces of furniture!!!
