It's the start of winter here in Tasmania we've had solid rain for the last 24hrs and forecast 48hrs more before we get a reprieve, one of the many things I like about this channel is you actually camp in all conditions and you stick it out in true outdoors enthusiasts do, keep posting Luke your channel is definitely one of the best on UA-cam mate

Whoa, such a lucky person you are to live there. Tassie is gorgeous. Just walked Overland track late May and to my surprise not a single drop of rain the entire hike. Was secretly hoping for 1 miserable weather day lol. But good thing is I have the entire track for myself!

Different schools. My training on knots is from the Navy. I'm sure the Army is the same. Knots are taught a specific and rigorous way due to working in crews. The person that ties the knot may not be the same person that has to untie it. But, as long as every member of the crew is taught the same knots, it doesn't matter. Anyone can untie any knot another member as tied. I keep about 20 in my head. On my tarp, my non adjustable end is two half hitches and a bite. My adjustable end is a trucker's hitch . My guy lines are taughtline hitches. It might also depend on the type of trees in the area. Here in Arizona mahy of our pine trees do not have lower branches to tie to.
Anyway, I'll crawl off my soap box, Someone mentioned to me that French MREs are quite the treat if you happen to run across any. Thanks for making the video Sir.

Every one of my tarps have 20 foot of paracord at each corner and one ready as a ridge line. 1 quick butterfly knot, 1 wrap around a tree and a truckers hitch. Takes just as long as you twirling your rope trees and branches and making your quick release knot, and the trucker hitch is designed to be easily released. Best thing about this knot is when using silnylon material you can tighten or slacken as you need too. Even if this adds 5 seconds per knot it is a far superior set up and taken down faster.
I usually pre make my butterfly by the corners so even quicker. Another added benifit to the truckers hitch is no mater the tension it doesnt binde so no need for tree wraps.

When I was in Scouts I was the Senior Patrol Leader and later I was the Assistant Scoutmaster after I got my Eagle Scout rank. I used to teach the new Scouts their knots. The one rule I had was one needs to keep the knots and hitches neat so you can untie them later. Personally I would do the knots I was trained and showed others. But I like what you did there, and more importantly it works for you. Great info thanks.

The story about braiding the cord is called a fireman’s braid. It is a very fast efficient way to coil up a cord. You can braid it up as fast or faster then coiling around your arm. And it is tangle proof. As you said with your knots, you need to know what your talking about. That boss fired him for coiling the cord a fast, efficient way.

Hey Luke, I used to live in the Boone area for 15 years, so I enjoy watching your videos!! Snake similar to what I call a Rat Snake. Non-Venomous. I tried for years to get lightning in my photos using a 35mm camera. I had tons of slides and lost them in a house move somehow. Your photo is award winning! I miss living in Western NC!! I now reside in the Roanoke area. Lots of recreational opportunities around here with the AT nearby and National Forest. My favorite camping memory from NC is when I soloed up Grandfather Mt. from the Invershiel side. Amazing forest hiking up to the one of the ridges. I slept on a ground sheet just in a sleeping bag, just under the stars. Amazing. GrandDaddy Long leg spiders visited all night I think. I was up there to try and find a plane crash site. I had set up camp in a ferned floor with just conifers all around. It's a different world up there. Some of the places you camp are similar. If you ever are in Roanoke, please let me know. I can sort of show you around the area!! Good Luck!! That coffee you drink ...... I think it's your trademark. Coffee-Nasty !!

Listening to your story about the guy getting fired for braiding the extension cord, that was stupid for your friend to do. My ex BF was a contractor and used to do the same thing with his cords so they wouldn't tangle. It wasn't a braid but you'd pull the cord through itself, I can't easily describe how its done. It only takes a couple of seconds longer to do and it was way quicker than trying to untangle the cords that are wrapped around someone's arm. Your friend fired a guy who was actually being efficient.

The performance bar you could probably mix with a little and heat it up and it would melt. Time is something we can't get back. Love that campfire 🔥 the crackling makes me think of past adventures. Great content again. Glad the hole in your insole works, have you tried hot and cold water for your foot. It worked for me when I had a similar injury. When your tendon is repaired fluid was created as part of the process that fluid has formed a jelly-like substance around the injury. It takes months for the body to reabsorb it. If you take two buckets or what ever you can get your foot in. Put enough feeding cold water in one to cover your foot and very hot water in the other . Put your foot on the freezing water until you cannot stand the cold or feel your foot then plung in the hot water until it becomes hot then repeat for 20 minutes a day. You will see a big difference in a couple of weeks.

Luke, I am actually glad you showed how you knot your tarps. I was thinking as to why in prior vids you were winding the cord So many times around the tree. But the pressure relief on the knot makes sense as to why and I did not think about that, especially when it comes to ridge lines for me. I will probably practice doing that for ridge line tarp and other tarp set ups (maybe not wind it around as many times) to accomplish the knot pressure relief. So thank you for showing that.

I grew up in Lebanon Missouri until I was 13, my grandfather was born in 1881 and me my dad, uncle and grandpa would go down by the Neosho river build a fire like yours and listen to the dogs run allnight. Grandpa was in charge of the campfire and he always told me ,,,,that he was burning energy from the sun that had been caught up in the trees,,,, strength and honor

That rock is not only crazy heavy, but you have also had to move it around plenty on this trip!😊 MY TAKE ON KNOTS: I cannot remember how to tie many of them, even after having had good, clear lessons. I DO believe that specialty knots serve particular purposes better than my average camp knots. I heed the advice: 'Can't tie a knot? Tie a lot!' I just learned from you today about the function of stress-relief wraps.

I wonder why it is so restful hearing rain and thunder in a tent. I love this episode. I think the snake is a milk snake - in the UK we only have 3 types, Smooth, Grass and Adder. Only the adder is venomous. I've seen both a grass and adder but never seen a smooth snake though.
