Great video Luke ! Glad you missed the tornadoes. I love storms (blizzards, heavy rain, strong winds, but I say no to tornadoes, hurricanes , avalanches, floods, earthquakes. Those are forces of nature that you cannot stand against. The best remedy is, "not be there"! I think that I've mentioned that I grew up 70 miles from Lake Superior in the far north of Wisconsin. So blizzards and powerful winds, heavy rain are all part of daily life there. I LOVE the sound of a blizzard. Puts me to sleep in no time flat. Same with high winds or heavy rain. The last 50 years have been in Colorado. You were in my back yard at Electric Pass, American Lake, Ashcroft, etc. Your trip to Mount of the Holy Cross wasn't too far away from home. Have enjoyed watching you and Suzy for the last few years. I'm glad to see her "step out" and do some solo stuff. She's great, so are you.
Unless you are doing a test review, in this weather I'd definitely be putting my tent under a tarp in this weather.. And for those who haven't tested their tents for waterproofing - then putting it under your tarp is even more important.
The tent should always be under the tarp completely, why would you trust a tent's waterproof rating 100 percent of the time. The tarp being over it as an additional fly is always there to protect you.
I’ve tested my Big Agnes Copper Spur in major storms. It’s good to know that your gear will withstand inclement weather. As for the tarp being in a separate area, it allows you to sit and cook in dry conditions without having to be in the confines of a tent. Luke sets up his camp like this all the time. He’s always testing gear so it makes sense.
@@MsRotorwings Everything I've ever done as a camper screams at me that he's doing it wrong. If he's staying in the cabin and doing it on a storm test that's one thing but for his own personal trips I'd always have the tarp over the tent entrance to ensure that it's always dry and he doesn't have a ruined trip.
I think he doesn't want all that campfire smoke polluting his tents and sleeping bags. He also could have an alarm system that gives him more safety if tent and tarp shelters are separate.
As a youngster I did a lot of camping with the scouts in the mid 70's until about '80. We never had a "general shelter" like a good tarp provides. Maybe they were too heavy back then. I would never go out today without a large, good tarp.
I was a scoutmaster in the late 80's and early 90's. Equipment has come so far since then. You are right, tarps were heavy and not always fully waterproof in Western Washington back then. You could equate tarps back then with Harbor Freight tarps today. We always carried transparent plastic to throw over the tent. Never put up a tarp for general gathering since the plastic was too prone to ripping. This video brings back so many memories, Thank you, so much.
Usually, tornadoes in the mountains are short-lived; however, on April 27, 2011, an ef4 tornado tore through the Great Smoky Mountains over 10 miles. This was after it began in Cherokee National Forest in Monroe county, TN. It crossed over Chilhowee Lake and entered the park and tore up the mountains. Not much info was shared about it because this is a very remote area of the park. I know about it because I live close to where it was.. love your videos!
Thank you for sharing that interesting information about the tornado in the Great Smoky Mountains! It's always fascinating to learn about the powerful forces of nature in different regions. By the way, have you ever considered having a Segway Portable PowerStation Cube Series as part of your camping gear? It's a versatile and durable power station that can provide ample power for your outdoor adventures. It's definitely worth checking out!
About the same here in Texas. We have a high tornado risk here in the Dallas/Ft Worth area and whenever we get a warning, we know immediately what's going on.
Tornado warnings are issued if a tornado had been spotted in the field or the radar shows a tornado signature. Radar indicated tornados don’t always materialize into a real tornado.
Yes Larry you are right. I live in tornado alley. A warning means a funnel cloud has been spotted. A watch means conditions are favorable for a warning.
Great example of why you need a backup plan and alternate fuel sources and food options. It’s great that you have the “cabin” retreat. I’m watching you during a tornado watch ahead of some major storms in my camper van in PA. Thanks Luke for another relaxing and informative video.
Thanks for letting us know of your schedule of reviews on Sunday and Tuesday and then Thursday is the next adventure. I've been watching a few years and had no idea you have a schedule as to when reviews and adventures comes out. Great info - THANKS.
BTW, don't fret much over lighting. These new cameras all have High Dynamic Range and excellent low-light sensitivity. Instead of muddled darkness, we're seeing dramatic contrasts, all in good focus. Great stuff!
Wow when you mentioned this video in the community post I never expected it to get this crazy. Rain is one thing but a tornado warning is something else!
Luke, This episode brought me back to my younger days when my buddy and I would camp in the woods. This was at a time when cell phones (and most of the gear you have) were not even thought of. Pack your stuff and head off into the woods and take it as it comes. Great times for sure. The rain hitting the tarp is like music to me. Very relaxing. Thank you sir!
Setting up a tarp is something that makes spending time in the outdoors a lot more fun. Could you make another video where you just go over setting up a tarp, picking a spot, etc?
We live basically in a forest. Lots of trees. Mostly a flat roof. The window is open. It's cool watching you and listening to the rain falling on the roof and through the leaves outside. I know what you mean about the canopy delaying rain reaching the ground.
hey Luke Linda here. love your videos for 2 yrs. now. u r the man when it comes to camping! also love your laugh Luke! u r a true professional and I like the way u carry yourself! from Philly, take care!
I must admit that I did find the juxtaposition of the storm warning close-up, followed by the shot of you standing forlornly beneath the tarp in the torrential rain storm, really very funny. Nice comedic touch.
I wish you would show more on how you set up your tarp shelters. I bought the anchors and 4 elephant poles and still struggle and setting up a tarp by myself. It has been a 2 hour struggle.
Many years ago, my wife and I did a fair amount of camping on our motorcycle. We has a two person tent that I don't remember the brand. Very easy to set up and took up very little space on the bike. At the time I had a trailer I could pull behind the bike . We camped with and without the trailer depending on how long we would be gone. This particular tent had a water proof bottom and up the side about 4 inches. It had a separate waterproof rainfly that went over the top about 4 inches for air to totally surround the tent. On the front door and back window, the fly went past the tent about a foot. You could zip down the door and window about half way to expose the screen. We went through some of the strongest rain storms in that tent and NEVER had a drop of water come through with the screens open. I have never seen another tent like it. I have noticed in your and others videos, most of the tents do NOT have an extra waterproof rainfly. I even watched a video last evening with the guy having a huge tent attached to his Jeep. It did not have a floor attached to the tent but one you throw on the ground. It did not attach to the sides of the tent. Totally open to varmints. Personally, I don't care for tents that attached to the vehicle. Thanks for your videos. Very interesting.
Ahh, rain....how refreshing. We haven't had a rain in 10+ weeks, come visit and bring some. Thanks for the cool weather trip, helps knowing there is some out there. Great wet weather camping, wish I had the opportunity. Enjoy you time outdoors, a sun blocking tarp is life saver here. Cheers!
Mr Luke, I must say you look your happiest in .the rain..lightning thunder. It scares me to death. Blessing to you and Susie. You are know your outdoor stuff. Be bless

Hello Luke, I love this adventure! I’m glad you are safe! I love how you adapt to fast changes! I’ve learned so much from y’all. You and Susie inspire me to start walking again. I won’t be hiking and climbing because of my health. Y’all take care, stay safe and keep hiking!
Thanks for enduring, Luke. Really glad you made the decision to go to the "cabin" and be dry for a few hours. If not, that tent would have been like a sinking boat! 😮
I agree with your decision to stay in the cabin. It just seems like it would have been a very long and miserable night trying to sleep in a wet tent, and with a wet blanket. I love your show! And I love instant coffee too!
Love it, brother. It's the balance of extremes (adventure and peaceful moments) that really make a trip standout (but that's just like my opinion, man).
I started watching your videos of camping in winter storms or rain storms and they don’t stop being my favorites even though it’s been a while without camping snow storm videos.
This episode was so cosey...for me anyway😂...I don't mind if you talk or if you just enjoy the peace and the rain... I have you playing while I am sewing... thankyou for keeping me company❤
The info and practices you put out here Luke can save lives...with your audience size it's very possible you have saved dozens. I think that's cool AF.
Great video as always! Something I have always loved about your channel is that you show your gear, AND how to use it. I love that you also include a gear list which is SUPER helpful for someone like me. The ambience, sounds, and views in your videos top it off even more too. Great footage, and top tier quality. You are my go to channel for camping, nature, etc. As a Wolf therian myself, it is very important to be out in nature and connect with it as much as I can. I have that inner Wolf too, and it's amazing that I can feel right at home in the wilderness with your videos. Thank you so much, and keep it up!
You know what, I stumbled over your videos, I don't know how and I'm not even sure why the original video was even recommended to me as I hadn't watched or searched for anything related to what you do. That said I've watched a fair few now and I have to say that they're actually really enjoyable. I usually watch channel like these for a while and then I move on. If they've left an impression on me I'll randomly remember the channel and go back and see what they've been up to and binge through the video. However in this case I genuinely going to subscribe. I can see myself sticking around for a while. The rain certainly helps as I am a big lover of rain, if it could rain every other day without causing any issues at all I'd personally choose for it to do that. Anyway, I haven't camped for many many years but I enjoy the reviews, even if I'm never going to buy any of it. The videos are calm, informative and relaxing. Relaxing to the point that I had a video on last week and was watching it a bit before bed and as I was laying there I caught myself falling asleep half way through almost an hour video, don't worry, I picked it back up that next morning. Keep up the great videos and all the best to you.
Hey Luke and Susie I hope that you both enjoyed your trip too Hawaii I hope that you didn't get any heat stroke it is great too see you back home enjoying the rain thunder storms.
Luke every time you pull out the cooking gear it takes me back to biscuits and gravy soup . FYI you may want to think about a 50 ft. piece of rope you can secure around your waist to tie yourself to a tree during a tornado . LOL
@@mawmawvee It was a joke , I would never go out in that kind of weather except in an emergency . Even if the tornado didn't get you a tree limb can cause a lot of damage or death .
@@charlieo.farmer2468 I'm glad to know that charlieo. We live in Cajun Country in Southwest Louisiana and people used to throw, hurricane parties. The last one I ever have heard about was, I think, during hurricane Camille, years ago. They were on the beachfront and the wind-driven rain and tidal surge killed all of the, people at that, "party" except for a 12-year-old boy, who was found clinging to a tree. That's to the best of my memory and it was a long time ago, now, as I'm old now... There was also a camping video where the guy, in Canada purposely went camping in the hurricane from last year, I think it was. I asked him if he was out of his mind! He had a wife at home carrying a baby. He did finally split and went back home, thankfully. But people do such things, but I think he truly got scared out of his gourd and left out for home. Having gone through many hurricanes in all the years we've lived here--It's not a cause for a party and neither is it the time to go camping in one (in the woods.)!!!
I am watching you at 5.36 in the morning ( couldn’t sleep) and made myself a cup of coffee too because of you 😅love your videos! And love to camp 🏕️ but now I am glad being warm in my bed at home
I live on Petoskey St. in Gaylord, MI. I was home when the tornado went through last spring. Got my cats in the bathroom, and the next ten minutes were the scariest of my life. We were very lucky, not much damage to our home. No power for a couple days, but since we like to camp we had supplies for ourselves, and were able to help out our neighbor with a battery bank to keep her phone charged.
Hey, just finished watching the video and I must say, I'm really impressed with Freebeat's new product, the Morph 2-in-1 e-Bike! The fact that it can be charged when in indoor mode is simply revolutionary. The speed, power, and torque provided by its brushless 750W motor are outstanding. The 80mm front suspension and puncture-resistant fat tires will definitely ensure a smooth ride on any terrain. Plus, the IPX5 Waterproof finish is perfect for unpredictable weather conditions. And let's not forget about the Smart Saddle Detection+ feature, which offers valuable performance insights and keeps you motivated during both indoor and outdoor rides. I love watching your videos because I can live vicariously through your adventures. (I haven't been able to camp at all this year, due to no PTO at the moment.) The sound of the rain on your tarp was almost mesmerizing. You make camping in the rain look like fun! I have had a few experiences camping in the rain, but a 1:30 a.m. tornado warning was NOT fun.
For the first time in my life, a month or so ago, we just had two tornadoes in as many weeks, here in western Montana, right in the middle of the Rockies !! Rare, but it does happen. Weather is getting nuts, for sure. The poles magnetic field has gone haywire and is affecting the weather (and animals).
My cheap 50 euros décathlon tent could hold up that kind of weather fairly easily and that's just because the fly must be too close to the mesh in this case and the winds pushes it onto it
I love camping in a downpour but lightning , or the chance of falling trees make me nervous . Also , not a big fan of tents with the poles on the outside of the fly , every fly attachment point is a source of leaking , jmo
Hey Luke, Great video ! Thank you for the close up camera shots of you tying your tarp to the trees. I asked for it and you delivered ! I greatly appreciate it ! Great sound too of the storm. Love hearing the thunder come through so clearly on the video. Good call on going to the trailer/camper. I would have done the same. Great work as usual. 👍
Great video! Looks like a fun trip. I have done a little tarp camping, mostly in the winter and always closer to the ground. It's interesting to seeing new techniques. IIRC that swagman role is climashield, it really can't hold moisture and will dry from body heat in an hour or so. It will insulate fine when wet too.
Hi Luke, it's beautiful there amongst the trees, but the rain, thunder a no no for me ,sorry about your tent, good thing you were so near to you cabin ,great review stay safe
Hey everyone, I just came across this new project called Freebeat Morph 2-in-1 e-Bike. I watched the video and I must say, the features and design of this e-bike are truly impressive! The fact that it can be charged indoors is a game-changer. The brushless 750W motor seems to provide incredible power while navigating different terrains, and the 80mm front suspension and puncture-resistant fat tires ensure a smooth ride in any condition. I also love the smart saddle detection+ feature, as it brings a new level of fitness and technology to cycling. Overall, this e-bike seems to offer a unique blend of versatility and sustainability. I'm definitely considering backing this crowdfunding project!
Hey bud I’m a retired wounded veteran. I love your content you had to be in the military you do some of the things I teach my boys right off the bat. I love man keep on keeping on brother
Hi Luke, many thanks for your weekly inspiring & therapeutic clips. May I ask why you set up your tent away from your tarp shelter? Cheers from Qld, Oz 🌞
That would defeat the entire point of testing the tents overall capabilities. Hell a Walmart tent would do well in storms if it has a tarp protecting it lol
You have way more nerve than I. No way would I want to be stuck under a tree during an electrical strorm. I have had too many close calls. Crazy weather. Send some down to Louisiana...we need it bad. We used to get the classic severe stroms in the spring and summer but it has been pretty quite this year. Yea...that cabin looks so warm and comfortable. Good decision.
I have finally found a awesome channel that shows two passions of mine, weather and extreme camping, thank you Sir for sharing and thank you for your service 🇺🇸
Can’t remember if already mentioned that you have amazing videography skills. That + your great story telling and adventure makes this one of my favourites.
6 liters of water during your Hawaii hike, I'd been wondering & asked in the comments. Now I know, & you & Susie & the other hiker consumed all 6 liters. That's a lot of water to consume in a day. You & Susie will be a big part of the other hiker's memory for the rest of his life. 30:46 - that HOT meal, I'm sure, was devoured/inhaled. 37:34 - The CABIN - was an excellent idea from the get-go. A nice, comfy cozy bed to welcome your ole bod. 43:20 - I'd be munching on my pre-cooked bacon instead of a "breakfast cookie". Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada
Luke I was just thinking when the video started out that you had a tent that was dry. I see that was not the case. I’m glad you had the trailer to hang out in. I remember you were going to try to make the shed a cabin.
Hi Luke, we just had winds and a major storm and we lost two huge trees. We lost another one that took out the electricity for a week. All of this happened a week apart. That storm brought straight line wind at 82 mph. Down came 4 trees. None of them caused any problems. Lucky. God was sitting right beside me while all of this was happening. It took 2 hours for this major storm to leave. It was wild. Still here and kicking crocks ( boots). To hot for my boots. Hope y’all had a beautiful vacation.
Thanks Luke Great Adventure .❤all your Rain & camping videos help me Relax and go too sleep .plus i learn something new about camping which I've never done its interesting.

Well I love the ambiance ….very nice lights ….lifts the gloom of grey rain atmosphere
I am sooooo happy ☺️ that there are people like you in the world.
Hot coffee puts me to sleep, but iced cold coffee and tea keeps me awake and it sounds like you are getting the storm we got on Saturday.
I had no idea you get so much rain there but then that's why things are so green and lush.
Mosquitos & ticks will be out in force for the rest of the summer because of all the moisture.
this would be a great opportunity for more rain test and wind test.
I am from LONEWOLF Oklahoma and we have 🌪 regularly out here!! I love storm's
,,, I'm from southern Oklahoma and love the storms also. And yes have seen my fair share of tornadoes, scary and beautiful at the same time. Lol
LOL
Tornados can uproot trees... They also throw trees around and other debris
@@mawmawvee You got to find the right tree . It's got to be better than a canopy or a tent .
@@charlieo.farmer2468 Well--that makes a lot of sense if you know what kind of tree to tie yourself to. Thank you.😁
@@mawmawvee It was a joke , I would never go out in that kind of weather except in an emergency .
Wish you could send some of that rain to Texas! We’ve been in the 100’sF for the last month and hardly any rain!
I've been wishing the same thing for Reno, Nevada.
How about some rain for Louisiana. It's frustrating to see the storms all around us and they just go all around us without leaving us a drop.
Take a bit for California, please.x
I am watching you at 5.36 in the morning ( couldn’t sleep) and made myself a cup of coffee too because of you 😅love your videos! And love to camp 🏕️ but now I am glad being warm in my bed at home
Love a good rain storm complete with the sound effects! Sorry about your Hawaii trip not working out, but you did it! Back to good old rain eh?
I enjoyed hearing the rain on the tarp vs your talking.
The poles magnetic field has gone haywire and is affecting the weather (and animals).
a truly fantastic heavy weather camp luke i for one was kept entertained!
Yeah! I love the stormy videos!
If you are expecting that much rain, why don't you put your tent under the tarp too?? I mean I don't think any tent could withstand that much rain.
Mostly it's because he is weather testing the tent.
Hey Luke,
Great video !
Always a treat to watch you and your wife’s videos. Quality.
I just love how you enjoy the type 2 fun, embrace it. The enthousiasm is so nice to watch
Did you say Hunker down? I’m gonna tell Steve. 😂🤣🤣
😂😂😂.
Great adventure Luke, really enjoyed it!
Thank you!!
Hey bud I’m a retired wounded veteran. I love your content you had to be in the military you do some of the things I teach my boys right off the bat. I love man keep on keeping on brother
I'm so glad you decided to have coffee. I enjoy watching you enjoy your coffee.
You are a little crazy Luke. But I love watching your days camping. Stay safe and God, Bless you!!!!!
Thanks for sharing. I love these videos. The rain relaxes me. Hope all is well! Strength and Honor
This is my favorite episode. I can’t believe he didn’t get to somewhere else. He’s very Brave.
Awesome adventure Luke!! Thanks so much for sharing it with us ❤
Hi Luke, many thanks for your weekly inspiring & therapeutic clips. May I ask why you set up your tent away from your tarp shelter? Cheers from Qld, Oz 🌞
Hi Luke. I really enjoyed this adventure. You are very calm in severe weather.
That was probably your wettest adventure for alinv time. It was very atmospheric. i enjoyed it.
Now this is a camping in rainstorm, very nice
Being in my 80’s & a mother of boys, I remember “old time camping””. Learning so much. Oh to be young today! Thanks for your informative show💔
It's nights like this that I'm happy you have the cabin as an emergency backup.
I would have put the tent underneath the tarp, especially if he hasn’t been tested in heavy wearing
WE just love youre Video's Luke and Susie. We have learned so much from you two.❤❤
Great example of why you need a backup plan and alternate fuel sources and food options. It’s great that you have the “cabin” retreat.
Thank goodness for the cabin!
Thank you. Your outdoor vids are my favorite. Even bought a foreign military stove and rations after watching your demo.
Luke I was just thinking when the video started out that you had a tent that was dry. I see that was not the case. I’m glad you had the trailer to hang out in. I remember you were going to try to make the shed a cabin.
A tornado would just laugh itself silly if it were going to hit the trailer/cabin.
I love your videos, and I love thunderstorms!
I have all Ozark trail tent and I love them. I’ve never had a problem with them leaking.
Thanks Luke Great Adventure .❤all your Rain & camping videos help me Relax and go too sleep .plus i learn something new about camping which I've never done its interesting.
Love this adventure .Love the rain I live in Texas we have had no rain this summer well actually we had a raindrop last night lol.
I had a pop up canopy collapse during a 2in per hour event. Cant imagine anything heavier than that. Thanks for taking us along!
When he said there's no way to combat the noise when i could hear him talking so clearly 😂😂😂😂
