    I add a "debugging mode" panel under the hood to bypass and take control of ignition, ecu and starter. Because I work on my car in a tight garage, going back and forth just to start the engine is not efficient for me. So I add a remote panel to turn on my car from the engine bay. I also add a NC switch so when I close the hood my circuit gives control back to key ignition switch

    Great source of information.
    I have added three 12v lights to the race switches . coil/oil and fuel pump . I added a relay with a fuel pump.
    For some reason I am getting power to the small 12 lights,
    When I turn the fuel pump on the light goes out,
    I know it difficult to recommend a fix, but adding the relay to the switch does it have to be wired differently,
    thanks for the trips and Trix .

    • @WiringRescue
      @WiringRescue  22 дні тому

      It sounds to me like you unintentionally wired the fuel pump switch through the bulb circuit of the switch instead of the accessory circuit. If your fuel pump switch has three terminals, two of them probably need to be swapped.
      If that is not the case, maybe your fuel pump relay (pin 30) is getting power from the same power source as the switches, and essentially sucking that power source dry. Check out my fuel pump wiring video to make sure you wired that relay correctly, straight off the battery.
      Good luck!

    this may be a silly question but I'm newer to vehicle/wiring. Im looking to get a unit with switches like that to keep it neat but want to wire the switches to various light bars/pods, could I just do a separate inline fuse and closed circuit to each switch instead of wiring them all together?

  • @Bearhater21

    You could make the switches a certain “combination” vs just all in the up position for power. A combination lock of switches.

  • @SpencersAutoParts

    Quick question, the main wire with the fuse, you placed a 20 amp fuse at the beggining before adding the fuel pump. Once you added the pump you switched it to a 5 amp fuse. Why did you do that?
    2nd question, would you have to repeat the relay process like the fuel pump if you add another higher amp item like lets say the window motor?
    Enjoying the videos and learning a lot, wish I found them earlier. Thank you.

    So I'm wondering I would like to have a push start with no ignition
    So if everything is wired as it should I'll have the power switch start button and 2 accessories switches
    Can I leave the accessorie switches on and just turn off the power switch or do the accessories need to be off because the relays are drawing power

    Great video. I just purchase a completed cobra replica that used a 92 mustang gt donor car and it’s wiring harness and ignition switch. The 92 mustang is notorious for a bad ignition switch. I want to remove the keyed ignition switch and use a new keyed switch (as in your video just using the off and run position) and the push button switch panel that you have in this video. I understand how you’ve wired the setup in the video.
    My question is using this setup on a car equipped with an ECU that needs to be powered during the start sequence and some components removed (or switched supply voltage) to reduce the current draw during the start sequence.
    I’ve mapped which items are powered in the current “RUN” position on which are powered during the “START” position. Should I use an additional relay to remove the power from items removed during the start position or just use the signal wire to the start relay on the back of the new push button?

      It is only used for the light bulb in the switch. If your switch doesn’t have that bulb, or you don’t care about the bulb, skip it!

    Wouldn't the fuel pump kick on when you put the key in the "on" position (in a stock vehicle)? If so how do you wire in a relay to the on position switch?

    • @WiringRescue
      @WiringRescue  Рік тому

      It depends on the car. Some fuel pumps run for about 3 seconds when the key is turned on and then stop unless the engine starts. Other fuel pumps only turn on when the engine is rotating. So to wires yours, you would need to probably do what the fuel injection system is requiring. That varies depending on the type of vehicle.

    If im using my cars factory harness, do i need to worry about adding extra relays? Or can i wire the button and switches to the factory circuit that already has the relays to not blow my fuse

    • @WiringRescue
      @WiringRescue  Рік тому

      If you are using a factory harness that already has relays and fuses, you should be fine swapping this push button in place of the normal ignition switch. If you are running the toggle switches off of these same wires, it could be a problem because you’ll be stealing electricity from a circuit not meant to have additional components.

    Off topic, but i need help! Here is what I am trying to accomplish...I have a digital voltage gauge. However it only has a + and a -. I don't want it to be on at all times. Only when I turn the vehicle on. ITs a nice little one. Looks semi "OEM" and has a cool little sequence when it starts up. Now, I have connected it to the vehicle 12V in the dash. But I want it to read directly to the secondary batterey (at the amplifier). My logic says a relay could possibly be the solution but i cant figure out if it is possable and how to do it.

    • @WiringRescue
      @WiringRescue  Рік тому

      This is very doable. You will need a 4 pin relay to make it happen.
      At the relay:
      - keyed ignition power to pin 86
      - ground pin 85
      - connect pin 87 to your volt gauge +
      - connect pin 30 to your secondary battery + (make sure there is a fuse in this wire, as close to your battery as possible. A 2.5 or 5 amp would be more than big enough.)
      Good luck - sounds like a fun project!

    So the push button part doesn't have a ground? I saw another video using this same switch setup, and the guy had a ground hooked up to that push button. I can't seem to get mine to work. I press the button and I hear one click, then every subsequent button press there's nothing. I was wondering if perhaps I still have an open circuit.
