U.K Police Uniform

- I've been asked to discuss standard police issue uniform so here you go!
Uniforms are largely the same across the U.K but each force has their own variations, South Yorkshire May be different to The Met etc
Police hats, helmets and other headwear can depend on your role, rank and force. You may see some officers in flat caps, others in standard custodian helmets or base ball style hats depending on these factors
New additions to the police uniform are better equipped vests and more inclusive uniform styles.

Thank you for this info
You explain it perfectly!!!
Great info thanks 😊
if i get a forearm tattoo (and work in the UK) will there be any occasion where have my tattoo out? Also, makeup works fine to cover it up or do you reckon a sleeve would be better (those tattoo sleeves to cover it up)?
another thing i've been meaning to ask, what is the use of the high-vis covers?
sorry 4 bombarding u with questions btw 😅lovely content!
"hello, im hayley victoria and welcome back to my crime"
Can you please do a PCSO uniform video. 😊 this was a great video thank you
Also - if you can think that far back - what sort of tests do you have to do during training? Written, like essays? Or multiple choice questions? (on paper, or on computer?) Verbal - like interview assessments? Or a combination of all of these? Or something else I haven't thought of! And would they be at regular intervals during the course, or only at the end? Sorry for so many questions....
Hi, they use mixed methods. Multiple choice tests, role-plays, and if you go through the PCDA route you will have essays and presentations too. These will be at the end of each module
Where did you work
i’m applying in a years time and i’m so nervous but i’m so excited at the same time
I start my training on the 3rd of January and have my uniform fitting next Thursday. Its been a long winded process, but now I'm ready to go I'm looking forward to it.
@@christopherthomas8002 goodluck!!
@@vckthats4960job is no good
How did it go
The "ER" on the head wear stands for, I believe, Elizabeth Regina, so does that mean when the Queen dies they change to CR? I only ask because when the police came about proper they had headwear with "VR" for Queen Victoria
I've not seen that oustide the Met, is that standard everywhere or just England?
Every force has their own logo.
They are not a police force they are carpark attendees.
Are you allowed to choose where you wear your equipment. I mean like your cuffs, Baton, spray and whatnot. Will I have to put these on specific places on my belt and armour or can I choose where they go
You can choose mate.
Very nice 👍 pleasure ( from Andhrapradesh)
would i be able to change my vest? instead of the green high vis, is black vest an option?
Hi, when I was there you had both, you would need to discuss with your Sgt
Hi - do you wear uniform on Day 1? Or do you get issued later? If so, what do you wear in the meantime, i.e. are there rules about what you can/can't wear? What about for gym classes?
Hi, you typically get your uniform within the same week. Until it all arrives we expect smart business wear where I am 😊 in terms of gym gear it's just the usual really. Nothing revealing or unprofessional
Does the training college have your measurements in advance? Or do they measure you for the first time when you go for the uniform fitting? If so, would this mean they have every size 'in stock' as it were? (what is the uniform store called?)
Hi, I went to the uniform place at the designated building when I went (a long time ago!!) They had every size in stock and these really long ones that they used to tailor for people with longer legs. I tried on their samples in my usual dress size and they took the uniform sizes from that, I'd say always go at least 1 size up in your trousers (they can split on the bum and it's a bit embarrassing) and there's no give in them so it's better to have some breathing room and stuff when you're running about etc. Don't go too big that you look like a sack of spuds though. Boots you have to source yourself if you are joining in a paid position, I'd recommend Altbergs in terms of reliability. Almost all the cops I know have these, my partner has had his 6 years and they still look good when polished! Hope this helps www.altberg.co.uk/ ☺️
@@hayleyvictoriacrime Thank you for such a speedy (and detailed) answer! Almost like I'd dialled 999... Appreciate it may be a while ago, but do you remember if your uniform fitting was on Day 1 of training? Or before the course started? Or 2/3 weeks into the course? Love all the videos btw, they're great.
@@robvic98 thank you ☺️ it was before training, the uniform gets delivered to you at training (usually) in the first week. Thanks again for your kind words
I must admit the bowler and custodian hats look very dated and old fashioned, British police hats should look alot more 21st century not 18th century.
It is quite heavy makes it difficult for them to run after people. Suppose police dogs helps for this.
Hi Hayley - slightly unrelated - do police salute these days? i.e. senior officers? And how much drill (marching) would you be taught at college?
Hi, no there's no saluting going on, probationers stand when a senior officer walks into the room and they parade in training ☺️
Thanks Hayley - great work answering all these questions. I salute you. @@hayleyvictoriacrime
Should I do special Constable or police Constable
Hi, that's totally up to you ☺️ special constables are volunteers who can work as many hours as they like (minimum about 4 a week) they don't get paid, and police constables do get paid but work full time hours
I might do police cadets what unifrom is in police cadets im in uk Southampton
Hi sorry to bother you, what do you wear for a uniform fitting ?
We had a little changing room at SYP so just your usual stuff really, I had a sports bra on and shorts xx
@hayleyvictoriacrime thank you I have one coming up and I've never had one before . Thank you
Hi Hayley, thanks for the informative video ! I had my uniform fitting yesterday and had quite a few questions that all sprung into my head afterwards!
Things like:
How much are you allowed to personalise your kit ? A better torch ? More comfortable trousers ?
Also the taking kit home issue to wash and maintain, what are you allowed/not allowed to take ?
Another that seems to vary from force to force is arriving to work in uniform or not ? I'm sure all will be explained at training but I don't start until Jan so rather eager for any information 😂😂😂
It is not a fashion show, you wear the issued trousers.
@@SteveMrW I'm not sure what part of my question leads you to believe I want to take part in a fashion show ? I put comfort first, this usually means I'm the most unfashionable person in any said situation 😂
@@leeshellam3150 Sorry, what I meant is that you cannot buy your own trousers/uniform, you go with the ones that you are issued. However, in my 30 years service in the Met, we would take our issued trousers to a tailor as they were designed by a posh fashion designer and had 'flared' bottoms to the legs, so they were taken in. Our issued shirts were okay on the collar/neck but were like sacks on the body, so they were also slimmed down. But you have to wear the issued uniform.
Yes you can get a much better torch but they can be expensive and are easily lost.
We would take items of kit home for washing and maintenance, some did not care what they looked like.
Yes, we travelled to and from work in half blues. But that would very much depend on were you worked (some areas it would not be a good idea) and if you were in your car or on public transport.
Also remember you are a probationer and at the start it is best to go with what is provided/issued to you.
@@SteveMrW That's Brill thanks Steve, just the advice I was after. 👍
Good vid. Tho i disagree with the whole " go with the times" thing. Police officers should looks smart and presentable especially in an age where looking smart is increasingly less important to the general public.
I noticed this weekend in London the police were wearing baseball caps on armistice day. I’ve never seen them before and looks quite American? When did these come in. They look more practical than those big hats how ever not as much protection ?? Thanks 👮
Hi June, these are worn a lot when they may need to transfer into their riot helmets quickly, they often wear them at football matches too. The traditional custodian helmets would be difficult to carry in a public order situation, hope this helps
@@hayleyvictoriacrime yes thank you it does make sense.
Do you have to buy your own uniform
No, your uniform is provided. You'll need to buy your own boots (Special Constabulary usually get them issued) and any extras you want, if you want gloves that actually fit well for example. A lot of people buy extra handcuff keys etc too
British Police uniform is scruffy and slovenly.
Haha, thanks for the feedback 😄
Useless
Thanks for the feedback
